Evelyn “Evie” Mills is a corporate lawyer that specializes in contract law working for Waller, Goldman and Associates. She receives a mysterious call one day from Josh. No last name, just Josh.

What did Josh want?

Representation for a social blog that was less DIY and just social D. The kind that was NSFW (not suitable for work). Once Evelyn had the nerve to open the link that Josh sent her for his blog her eyes nearly pop out of her head. His D could’t possibly be real, could it? The respectable Waller, Goldman and Associates would never allow her to take someone like Josh on as a client, would they?

One who would use discretion and would look out for his best interests in dealing with the sponsor contracts. When did his life become a giant cluster?

Learning to Breathe is book three in the overall arc of The Collective storyline, but this story begins before Unbroken, book one.

Learning to Breathe opens and Sally Levenson is standing before a dead body. Is this a typical occurrence for her? She’s the county coroner and you’ve met her before. As she’s examining the body you learn that this is the a dead body that popped up in Unbroken. The one that started the strange mystery as we met Sally for the first time in Ava’s diner. As Sally continues to exam the body and wonder at the mystery surrounding the victim’s death. Yes, she does think victim because she is marking it as non-accidental, in walks Blaze. The main character from book 2, Iron Claw MC. You also discover that the body lying on the table is Blaze’s ex-girlfriend, Ally. Aha, now the pieces of each book are beginning to solidify and link together as the story unfolds.

As Sally returns back to the examination you learn more about the doctor and the solitary life she has lead. You learn that she has been a widow for the past five years, but she is also in the beginning stages of a new relationship with a man named, Derek LeMark.

At this point the story progresses away from the murders and into Sally and Derek’s own storyline. Learning to Breathe is another great addition to the overall arc of the series. I can’t wait to read more and figure out the mystery.

Priscilla needs a man to claim her and her unborn child and Shane needs a Story to claim the job of his dreams. What could possibly go wrong? Or maybe the question should be, what could possibly go right?

Katy Regnery knows how to write a contemporary novel where opposite attraction is pure magic. Nothing is forced or awkward it’s just pure chemistry, two pieces of a puzzle fitting together. A feel good love story that leaves you floating and feeling that first-time love flutter for days afterwards.

You won’t be disappointed when you pick up a Katy Regnery book.

Unfinished Night is hard to put into one category as it is a two part series book in of itself. The first part titled, Before the Night, is about Addison Milan and Caine Spencer when they first meet. Addison is nineteen years old and taking care of her younger siblings. This would qualify Before the Night as a New Adult novel.

As Addison’s story begins we find out that not only is she taking care of her siblings, but they are also homeless. What makes Addison such an endearing character is her never-give-up attitude and sunny disposition. Even though she has every reason in the world to be bitter, hateful, and just down right scornful about life she never lashes out at her own circumstances. I give a huge kudos to Violet Duke for shedding light on a very real hardship, but turning a positive spin on it. Showing that not everyone that lives such a hard live always ends up in a life of destruction.

Then in walks Caine Spencer. Oh boy. He has been added to my book boyfriend list. When he added sticky note eggs and messages to Addison’s drawings I was a total goner. (When you reach this point in the story you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about and Caine will reach boyfriend status for you too.)

Caine Spencer is a cop and eats at the local diner where Addison works. Caine’s protective and sweet, manly and a big teddy bear all at once. He is the ultimate man all rolled into one. Addison can’t help but like him.

Addison works at the diner while her brother and sister still attend school, then at night she parks their van where they all live, in the empty lot behind the diner at night and no one asks any questions. That is until a predator situation turns deadly Addison has to make a decision, stay and fall for a man who could give her everything for the first time in her life, or go with the one thing she knows best and run?

Every Night Without You begins seven years later. The storyline moves from a New Adult novel into more contemporary with suspense/cop elements. I really hate giving too much away because this is really where the meat of the story takes place. However, everything from Before the Night is weaved into this story beautifully and it turned me into a puddle of goo multiple times.

From the moment I opened Unfinished Night, I was hooked. It was sweet, charming, kept me on the edge of my seat, yet was also filled with so much goodness that it melted everything inside of me. I wanted to be Addison and have a Caine Spencer of my very own. Not only were they a wonderful couple together, but both books were abundant with secondary characters that were rich and easy to fall in love with. I cannot wait to meet them all as the series continues to grow.

You can purchase these two books separately, but I wouldn’t recommend it because you’ll be gripping the edge of your seat dying to know what happens after you finish the first book. Unfinished Night The Complete Duet is titled appropriately because they definitely go hand in hand. I loved every part of both books, the secondary characters, the redemption, the plot, the twist, the love story…everything.

Unfinished Night is a duo feature that is a must read.

My hand cradled the back of his neck, holding him prisoner.
I didn’t want him to look away, to move away.
I wanted him inside of me.
His eyes darkened and as if reading my mind, he moved back to pull his pants off. After grabbing a condom, and pulling it on, he came back and settled between my legs.
My arms went back around him, like returning to their home.
“Sam,” he murmured, tracing a finger down the side of my face. He tucked some hair behind my ear, and then I felt his lips against mine again.
Yes. Home.
That’s what this was.
I groaned, my head falling back, and I felt his soft chuckle against my skin, but then he reached down and shifted, lifting my leg until I wound it around his waist. He dipped in, shifting, and I felt him at my entrance. He paused, then slid inside.
My eyes closed and I relished the feel of him in me.
He began moving, thrusting inside of me.
As he kept going, and he slid his hands up my arms to capture my hands, I opened my eyes. We were staring back at each other, watching each other. I could feel him reaching inside of me, searching, claiming me. Everything in my body yearned for him, yearned for more. I wanted more. I needed more.
The second he touched me, everything blared alive. I was awakened. Always.
In and out. Mason kept thrusting.
My fingers clamped down over his, sinking deep as his pace quickened.
“Mason,” I gasped. Weak. His onslaught kept going, harder, faster. “I love you.”
He groaned, climaxing, and his body clenched as he thrust into me a last time. It sent me hurdling over the edge, and I wrapped both arms around his neck, hanging on.
A moment later, he brushed a soft kiss on my forehead before he slipped out.
I still lay beneath him.
I didn’t want to move.
I didn’t want him to move, and eventually, we slept like that.
I woke later, but I was still in his arms. He was curled up behind me, and I went back to sleep again. All the doubts and questions would be there tomorrow.

“You know you can’t finish this fight before those cops show up?”
“Who says they’re coming here?” He tossed the bat up, catching it like he was going to swing at a baseball. He held it above his head.
I narrowed my eyes. “What are you talking about?”
“They have to prioritize their calls,” he said. “It’s a small police department. I’d think a burning nursing home would take priority over a text about brawling from someone’s cell phone.” He looked right at Nate. “I saw that, you know.”
“You set the nursing home on fire?” Nate paled slightly.
“They’ll get everyone out, I’m sure.” Caldron didn’t sound like he cared. “But that leaves us to our merry selves.” He dropped the bat and caught it again, right around the handle. He hefted it back up. “How about we get this show on the road?”
And he swung.
I blacked out after that.
The bat swung down. I saw my hand catching it, saw Caldron on the ground. His face was bleeding. His eyes were swollen shut. There were hands at my shoulders, and I was swinging.
Time skipped.
Two guys were on me. I ducked down, ramming my shoulder into one of them. Someone’s arm cracked, and he screamed in pain as it bent at an indecent angle.
More lapses in time.
Nate was on the ground. Three guys kicked him.
I pulled one away, slamming him into the pavement.
Time jumped again.
Logan threw a punch, and a guy’s head snapped backward from the blow. Another guy swung a bat, about to hit Logan in the back of the head—another blackout. I came to again, and that same guy was unconscious.
I was holding his bat.
More blackness.
“Mason.” I heard Logan’s voice in the distance.
There was a buzzing sound. I looked around. What was that?
“Mason.” Suddenly, the buzzing sound vanished, and Logan was right there. His voice was too loud, and he was clawing at my hands. “Mason, stop!” He sounded panicked. My brother never panicked. He kept pulling at my hands, and I looked—they were wrapped around a guy’s throat.
Logan reared back and rammed his shoulder into me. He knocked me backward, but I’d let go of the throat already.
What had I…?
I didn’t want to know.
I shook my head. There was a cloud there, a haze settling over everything. I didn’t feel like myself, and I surveyed the parking lot and felt sick.
There were bodies everywhere.
Nate sat on the ground, his face covered in blood and only one eye open. He was holding his shirt to his head. The end was soaked in blood.
I looked for Logan. He was right in front of me, and he was bleeding all over, too. He fell into me, and he began to slip to the ground, but I caught him. Wrapping an arm around his back, I eased him down and sat next to him.
My hands were already bruising. They were covered in blood, but there was blood everywhere. Even the Escalade had blood on it.
“Logan.” My voice was hoarse. “What did we do?”
He grunted from pain as he tried to stretch a leg out. “We fought. That’s what we did.”

I had no time to stop and think.
I had to fight.
I had to hurt.

Feeling someone behind me, I let loose with the bat, a scream erupting from my throat. Someone caught the bat and wrapped an arm around my waist. I tried kicking out. He dodged my feet and said hurriedly in my ear, “Damn, Strattan. It’s me, Channing. Stop!”

Channing was right. Mason’s eyes were deadly, but alert, his mouth set in a flat line. His shoulders were tense, but he looked in control.

Blazing Hot Book that Touches Sensitive Subject

Temptation’s Inferno starts out blazing hot. The heat level between Jamie and Viggo is off the charts. How off the charts? For the most part the intimacy you experience is when Jamie and Viggo kiss. That’s right. Kiss. Yes, other juicy bits happen too, but for as hot as things get, Jamie and Viggo don’t breach the ultimate trusting level until later in the book.

Kat Mizera does an incredible job pulling you in and drowning you in Jamie and Viggo’s kisses, touches, and just plain old intimacy. Before you know it your panties have melted right off your body and whew, the temperature is rising even as I’m recalling their lips locking.

Kat also wasn’t afraid to touch on a sensitive subject; hate crime, without it affecting her storyline. In fact it was an integral part of her story and helped solidify the love and relationship between the two men. She even gives the reader a fair warning before you dive in to the story. It is brutal and she doesn’t dance around or make light of what happens.

The LBGTQ community has come a long way in the past few years, yet there are still a large number of people who are intolerant. Not only was Jaime struggling with his own feelings for Viggo, the only man he’s ever had feelings for, but he also falls victim to a hate crime because of his growing love. It makes you wonder if Jamie will run or will he stay and fight.

The book was well written from the perspective of a man who was struggling to find out who he was. Not in labeling himself, but in coming to the realization that he was in love for the first time in his life and it happened to be with his best friend. It wasn’t about sexuality, but it was about being a human being in love.

Viggo was the perfect counterbalance to Jamie’s very indecisive mood swings. He understood how hard it was in dealing with his own sexuality when he came out and as such was ever patient with Jamie. That man deserved a medal for putting up with Jamie at times, but he so frankly stated that you stay by, good or bad, the person you love. They were perfect for one another.

For a story that could have teetered over the edge and blown matters out of proportion if given the chance, Temptation’s Inferno was excellent and hot as hell to boot.

Great Concept for Low Blow

I have mixed feelings as I sit down to write this review. To start off, Low Blow touched me on a personal level. My own father was a donor after he suddenly lost his life about seven and a half years ago. It was about a year after he passed that we received a letter from Donate Life in which we learned all the wonderful things and people his donation was able to help. There were no specifics, as in names, or locations, but in generalities such as his skin went to help burn victims and things of that nature. He actually ended up helping hundreds of people. It is amazing what one human body can do and even in death you can make a difference in someone’s life.

So, as I sat down to read Low Blow, knowing just a small blurb about the book I was intrigued. A teenage recipient of a heart transplant years later finding the donors daughter, meeting, and then falling in love is a truly romantic concept. However, as much as I tried to enjoy the story, it fell a little short of great for me. I’d like to say I didn’t hold any bias, but perhaps it still hit a little too close to home.

Griffin’s life was over, or so he thought. A punch to the chest, a few broken ribs, and one infection later that went to his heart and suddenly his life was literally in the hands of someone else. Someone had to die so he could live. That was a heavy burden to carry, especially for a teenage kid.

Griffin carried that burden for ten years. Ten years of not really living his life. He may have achieved his working goals, he was on top of the boxing world, but emotionally he was dead inside. Never really living since the day they replaced his heart with someone else’s.

Meeting Olive, the heart donor’s daughter, changed all that. She made Griffin feel alive for the first time in his life. He wasn’t going to let her go. It might be crazy, to fall for the girl who was tied to the heart that now beat in his chest, but perhaps crazy was what he needed in his life.

A portion of Low Blow’s proceeds will be donated to the Marcie Mazzola Foundation. It is a foundation that goes towards helping the lives of abused and at-risk children, and to build community awareness regarding the needs of children.  You can learn more about the foundation by clicking on the link above.

How can you not want to buy this book when you know proceeds will go towards a fantastic cause, right?

Plus, I’m going to add my own plug here, sign up to be an organ donor if you haven’t done so already. It could save someone’s life, someone you love. There are people who need organs, tissue, bones, skin, arteries, something someone needs is added to the donor list everyday. You may be that chance someone needs at a quality life, or the chance they need to keep living.

I know the question; How could you sign up knowing you feel like you are signing your own death certificate?

I’ve lived on both sides of the donor coin. I know my father helped hundreds of people, but I didn’t know them personally. I won’t personally get that connection like Griffin and Olive had to see life go on. However, I have a dear friend that received the gift of life. Someone who wouldn’t be here today if she hadn’t been a recipient of an organ donation. So I’ve been witness to the miracle and it’s a beautiful thing. So please take that next step; organdonor.gov

Blaze is an enforcer in the Iron Claw motorcycle club. He is a man who has done terrible things in his life and the story opens right in the middle of one of his nefarious deeds, the kidnapping of Nina. She is potential payment in exchange from a man who owes the Iron Claws a lot of money, aka Nina’s father. If payment isn’t made then Nina is supposed to die, but even with all the horrible things Blaze has done in his life, he isn’t willing to kill the young girl.

Little did Blaze know the ramifications, as the story unfolds, that not killing Nina from the beginning, would have on him or his fellow brothers. There was just something he’d never felt before. Some initial pull that called to him and he was a goner almost from the beginning. Almost every instinct should have told him that he shouldn’t be drawn to her, but he couldn’t stop even if he tried.

Iron Claw MC is not a story for the faint of heart. It’s raw, gritty, and probably the least romanticized version of a motorcycle club I’ve ever read. Is it more reality based, perhaps? The point is even though the environment wasn’t glamorized I still found myself rooting for Blaze the entire time. If this was reality he’s done horrible things that are criminal and would make me walk the other way if I ran into him on the street, yet as I was reading his story I couldn’t help but feel for him. This is my definition of what makes a really good author; can you make a deplorable character likeable? Erin Trejo did exactly that.

How?

I knew what kind of man Blaze was, a hard cord killer by nature, but Erin wrote him with vulnerability, a humanity I didn’t expect.  I couldn’t help but find myself wanting Blaze to win the girl and hopefully come out the other side a better man.

As far as The Collective series arc there are a few suggestive hints that move the murder plot along, but this a complete standalone in the storyline as a whole.

Iron Claw MC is told entirely from Blaze’s POV, with a quick paced flow. An excellent addition to The Collective.

Tyler Young plays bass guitar for Devils Garden. He’s a man who loves his independent life, living on the road and not being tied down. However, as much as he tells Ali this is how he lives his life, he continually brings her into the secret recesses of his world. 

Ali tries to keep Tyler at arms length as best as she can knowing she doesn’t want to lose herself to someone who won’t stay, but Tyler is relentless and continues to show up as her white knight. Ali desperately tries to fight her own battles, after all she is a modern-day woman, but when she finally wakes up and realizes that she’s only fighting herself could she be too late to find her happily ever after?

Blissful Disaster is past of a series, but can be read as a standalone. I had absolutely no trouble jumping in and I never felt like I was missing part of the story. The part I loved most was seeing a sweet tender side of Tyler, knowing he was a rockstar. It hammered home that when you find “the one” you let down your walls and go to any lengths to be with the one you love. If there was anything wrong with Blissful Disaster is that it was missing an epilogue. I would have enjoyed a follow up or wrap up on how the characters were doing. Overall, Blissful Disaster was a blissfully lovely read.

MEET BIANCA

I sighed audibly. Are we even moving? It was seriously the slowest elevator I’d ever taken. Frustrated, and maybe a bit anxious to get the interview over with, I took another shot at the elevator panel. Again, pressing the button repeatedly, I groaned, “Come on. I’m already freakin’ late.”

I breathed a sigh of relief when the car seemed to finally pick up speed. But then, it jolted to an abrupt stop, and the elevator went pitch black.

“Well now you’ve gone and broken the damn thing,” a deep voice said from behind me. Startled, I jumped and bobbled my cell phone in the dark, which resulted in it falling. From the sound of it smashing against the floor, I knew it had broken.

“Shit! Look what you made me do.” I bent over and patted the floor, but I couldn’t find it. “Can you at least give me some light so I can find my phone?”

“It would be my pleasure.”

“Thank you,” I huffed.

“If I had a cell phone on me.”

“Are you kidding? You don’t have a cell phone on you? Who walks around without their cell phone?”

“Maybe you should try it. If you weren’t so obsessed with yours, we wouldn’t be in this predicament.”

I stood, and my hands went to my hips. “How so?”

“Well, you were so busy typing away on your phone, you didn’t even notice another passenger was in the car with you.”

“And?”

“Had you seen me, you wouldn’t have jumped hearing my voice and broken your phone. Then we would have had light, and you would be able to see that elevator panel well enough to push that button another twenty or thirty times. I’m sure that would’ve helped.”

I felt the man moving around behind me.

“What are you doing?”

When he answered, his voice came from a different place. It was to my left and beneath me. “I’m on the floor looking for your cell phone.”

It really was pitch dark. I couldn’t see a thing, but I felt the air move, and I knew he must have stood back up.

“Put your hand out.”

“You’re going to put my phone in it, right?”

“No, I’ve taken down my pants and I’m going to stick my dick in it. Christ, you’re really a bitch, aren’t you?”

Thinking he couldn’t see me, I smiled at his sarcasm and put out my hand. “Just give me my phone.”

MEET DEX

Wow. My little ball player was quite the fox.

I’d only seen her from the back before the lights went out. Now, I was staring into her beautiful, big brown eyes, feeling like this elevator mishap wasn’t such a bad thing after all.

She cleared her throat. “The lights came back, but we’re still stuck.”

I clicked on some of the buttons. “Seems that way. But this is a step in the right direction. I bet this thing will be moving in no time.”

And by this thing moving, I do not mean my dick, although I could have sworn I felt it twitch when she just licked her beautiful full lips.

Do that again.

Fuck.

She is beautiful.

My eyes travelled down the length of her body then back up again, loving how the small buttons on her conservative blouse formed a path up to her delicate neck. I wouldn’t have minded sucking on that skin.

Maybe I could entice her to play hooky with me.

“Where are you headed once we get out of here?” I asked.

“The thirty-fourth floor,” she said.

What?

What is she doing going up to my floor?

I know she doesn’t work for me. I would have remembered that face, those eyes.

“What kind of business you have going on up there?”

“I actually have the pleasure of interviewing Mister Moneybags himself.”

My stomach sank.

Ohhhh.

This didn’t bode well for me.

I swallowed then cocked my head to the side and played dumb. “Who?”

“The elusive Dexter Truitt. He’s the CEO of Montague Enterprises. They occupy the entire top floor.”

Trying to seem like I was not seriously about to lose my shit, I asked, “Why do you call him Mister Moneybags?”

“I just picture him to be this crabby, money-hungry asshole, I guess. Sounds like a fitting name. Of course, I don’t actually know him.”

“Why do you think that way about him, then?”

“I have my reasons.”
