Review – Hit Hard by Unrequited Love

The Theory of Unrequited; Science of Unrequited (Series)
by Len Webster (Author)

This review is from: April 13, 2018 By Kay Daniels (Kindle Edition-Goodreads)
Heat Level:🔥

The title, The Theory of Unrequited, should tell you alone that love is out of reach, but the story of Evan and AJ goes so much deeper than just untouchable love.

AJ, also known as Alex, Alexi, or even Alexandrea, depending on whom she is talking to, has fallen in love with her best friend, Evan Gilmore. Unfortunately, Evan only sees AJ as his best friend. They have grown up together and he has nothing more than sister like feelings towards her.

However, his older brother, Kyle, has made his feelings pretty clear that he is in love with Alexi. Unfortunately for Kyle, AJ only loves him like a big brother. So the tangled web of unrequited is cast.

Yet, that is only the beginning of a complicated love formula. Anyone who understands algebra (that isn’t me), but from what I remember, you were always trying to solve for x. a+b=x or y+z=x. ^jk$oo/hd#=x or something complicated like that. Yes, I know this is why I write and no longer attempt to understand why English needs to enter the number system. Anyway, my point is you had to find the mystery number to solve the highly complicated math problem.

AJ realized she was the mystery number in their web of a highly complicated love problem. She discovered she was the common denominator, so to speak, and decided to remove herself from the equation. Making a choice to find herself, find out who she was, and her happiness once again before she was stuck in the middle of the Gilmore’s unrequited love lives.

What makes this story so engaging is that you learn that neither Evan nor Kyle were aware of what they were doing to her, silently killing her own happiness, while at the same time also killing their own.

It isn’t until AJ severs her relationship with Evan that she is able to break free and try to rebuild her broken heart. Reflection and time are a beautiful and horrible gift all wrapped into one package.

GAH!! The Theory of Unrequited ends on a major cliffhanger. Be prepared for a wonderful story that will take you on an emotional journey, but again I say, GAH!! Len Webster does an amazing job of weaving the storyline to suck you in and make this a one sit read.

Book 2 in the series, The Solution to Unrequited, is scheduled for Mid 2018 and it cannot be published soon enough. Suffering unrequited love is hard enough, waiting to find out what happens to Evan and AJ’s unrequited triangle is going to be absolute misery.

“Why am I here?” I ask, wanting to get this over with.
He takes the bottle from my hand and brings it to his lips, taking a big gulp. His Adam’s apple working as he swallows.
I cross my arms over my chest, trying to look unaffected. But I’m having trouble breathing.
“We’ve been thinking …” he says, rubbing his chin.
“We want you to be a part of our group,” Deke finishes his sentence.
I look among the five of them and start laughing nervously. “You’re joking, right?”
“Not one bit,” Deke says, shaking his head.
“No thanks,” I say and turn to the door. I twist the handle and start to pull it open, but a hand slaps on the door above my head, holding it shut.
I jump back to look at Cole. He leans against it casually, getting comfortable and blocking my only exit. “It wasn’t an offer, Austin.”
My eyes narrow on him. “What makes you think I want anything to do with you guys?”
“Deke,” Cole says, lifting the bottle to his lips again.
I spin around to see Deke step up to us, his phone in his hand facing Cole and me. A video plays, and it’s of me driving Cole’s car away from the warehouse after he stole the red car.
“How did you get that?” I demand.
He just chuckles, placing the phone in his pocket. “I don’t kiss and tell, baby.”
My eyes narrow on him calling me baby. I turn back to face Cole. “You’re blackmailing me. Again.”
He shrugs carelessly. “You can call it whatever you want.”
“I’m calling it what it is,” I snap. “You know damn well that I had no idea what you had planned.”
He pushes off the wall and leans down, his face inches from mine. I can smell the cinnamon on his lips and can’t help the shudder that runs through me. “I dare you to prove it.”
“You son of a—”
“In order to join,” Deke interrupts me, “you have to pass a test.” He crosses his arms over his broad chest.
“I’m not interested …”
“Initiation,” he corrects himself.
“I don’t want to be involved with whatever fucked-up shit you guys are in.” How many different ways do I have to say it?
“Let her out,” Kellan says, but no one listens to him.
Deke continues. “You have to fuck one of us while we all watch.”
My heart starts to pound at his words. And my eyes widen when he takes a step toward me.
This is a joke. It has to be.
He arches a brow in challenge when I just stand there staring at him. “You want me, baby? I’m ready.” He licks his lips as his blue eyes settle on my legs. Then he reaches down to his jeans and unbuttons them.
He’s serious! My eyes immediately shoot to Cole.
His eyes hold their usual anger as they glare down at me, but a slow, devious smile spreads across his face, and the guys start laughing. “Well, there’s your answer, man,” one of them calls out from behind me.
My jaw tightens. “I don’t want to …”
“Leave us,” Cole orders, interrupting me. And like the trained sheep they are, they all walk out. I can still hear their laughter as they walk down the hall, the door slowly shutting behind them.
I plop down on one of the lounge chairs, trying to slow my racing heart. “You can’t force my hand, Cole. Not with this.”
He walks over to where I sit. Reaching out, he runs his busted knuckles along my cheek. I swat his hand away, afraid of what will come out of my mouth if he touches me.
His hand grips my hair and yanks me to stand. I cry out as he shoves my back
against the closed door. He towers over me, pushing his body into mine. I’m panting while he holds me still. He dips his head to whisper in my ear. “Are you a virgin, Austin?”
“No,” I growl. My hands come up to push him off me, but he grabs them and pins them above my head. I whimper, and my thighs tighten.
“That’s a shame.” He sighs, and his breath skims across my skin making me shudder. “I like to take pretty, innocent things and destroy them.”
“You’re sick,” I say, panting.
He chuckles but doesn’t deny it. “But that doesn’t make you want me any less. I saw the way you stared at me in the car. The way you licked your lips when I thought about kissing you. The way you whispered my name. How you stared at me when I got out of the pool. And let’s not forget the way you allowed me to touch you last night. Tell me, were you disappointed when I didn’t throw you on the bed and fuck you right then?” I moan. “I bet you’re wet right now.”
“Cole,” I growl his name, not wanting him to see how right he is.
But he ignores my warning. “You wore red for me again, sweetheart. You wanted my attention, and you got it. Now what are you gonna do with it?”

Cover Reveal – Falling Through Darkness

Genre: Romantic Suspense

Release Date: May 4, 2018

One bad decision changed my life irrevocably.
One night shattered it completely.

Moving to another country was supposed to be a fresh start for me, an escape from my past. A way to heal and live my life. I promised them to find happiness. What I wasn’t supposed to find was him. Dark, handsome, and irresistible.

He wasn’t supposed to break through the walls around my heart. But I wasn’t strong enough to resist.

For a minute, I was happy. But the clutches of my past will never let me go. The evil shrouding my past in darkness has finally found me.

I need to fight it—for him and them. Even if that means letting go of the light.

Words keep flitting through my mind on an endless loop, trying to pull me into the darkness hovering on the fringes of my mind. It would be easy, so easy to let go. To give in, give up…
Stop the endless fighting.
What’s the point anyway?
This time I won’t get out alive. Last time was messy. This time is meticulously planned. The intention clear, I was not to make it out of here alive.
I have always known this would happen and yet, I’ve given in to hope, to love, to the idea of a new beginning for someone like me… Boy, was I wrong.
One name among thousands, but the only thing keeping me sane right now. I should have never given in; I should have been stronger.
But he wore me down. It wasn’t just his looks—even though his resemblance to a Viking god sure helped. Tall and muscular with blue eyes reminiscent of the Australian ocean, or a mountain lake, with his clear and honest stare. The one thing that made me fall hard and fast was his smile. The prefect reflection of who he is—charming, strong, honest, and wickedly funny.
He was the first person who was able to make me genuinely smile with true joy after months of going through the motions.
He made me feel alive again. And now I’ve lost it all… and he doesn’t even know how much he means to me. My last words to him being the cruelest I ever uttered. It’s a good thing I won’t have to live long with myself after what I’ve done.
I picture his face in all its glorious detail. I want the last thoughts I have be of the best thing that’s ever happened to me. The one who healed me, taught me to love, gave me strength to fight, and always believed in me.
The one who taught me how to fly.
While I picture the love of my life holding me in his arms, the door opens slowly and in walks my worst nightmare. I don’t try to fight my restraints. I already did, and there is no way to get out of these handcuffs.
Instead, I keep hold of my saving grace while my grim reaper walks toward me.
I concentrate on how Duncan’s lips felt against mine, how he worshiped my body, my scars.
I tune out the sound of the gun being cocked. I always hoped my ending, when it came, would be quick and painless—at least I will be given that.
I keep my eyes closed and my mind firmly in my fantasy, where I’m loved and happy, and not in this dark and empty prison.
Briefly, I wonder if anyone will ever find my body or if they will have to bury an empty coffin.
Suddenly, my chin is grabbed in a painful and unforgiving hold.
“Did you actually think you’d get away this easily? You fucking bitch, you ruined my life! I was going to have it all before you had to go and fucking leave!”
The pain in my jaw forces my eyes open. They collide with eyes, the deepest brown they look black, staring back at me. But none of the warmth I’ve seen before is present right now. All I see is an abyss of hatred, madness, and cold determination.
I guess it won’t be quick after all. I close my eyes again. Hoping against hope for peace.
“Ah no, darling. You don’t want to miss what comes next. I have plans for you. And I need you present to enjoy them.”
A menacing smile spreads across the face in front of me.
“Let’s have some fun…”

But an unexpected layoff changes everything. Lily has done all she can to get Chris to see her again, but their playful nighttime banter has been replaced by anger and bitterness. Lily is ready to call it quits, until a mysterious package arrives that offers hope of a new beginning. But is Lily brave enough to take a chance?

Chris has been waiting every day for the past year for his wife to finally leave him. He feels unworthy as a husband and uncertain of what Lily will think about his dark desires. But now, with a little assistance from a friend, he’s got one chance to show his wife who he is, what he wants, and all the games he likes to play.
Warning: This book contains naughty costumes with ruby-red stilettos, a meddling dentist with a penchant for toys, and brown paper packages tied up with string. So basically a romance reader’s favorite things.

Teaser/Excerpt – War Bride

War Bride

A Reverse Harem Dragon Fantasy

from Ava Sinclair.

“You are in mourning,” he says.

I don’t reply. Instead I strain my eyes to find a shape in the fog, a peak, a raven, anything.

“I will not pretend that you have not suffered great hurt, Isla of Branlock. I will not pretend that you will ever fully heal from your loss. But neither will I pretend that we can go on like this. Lady Lyla told you what would be expected of you here.”

“I know what is expected.” I peer into the swirling mist. “You and your mighty brothers will take me to your bed chambers and fuck me. I will endure it, because that is what I have been taught to do as a villager, isn’t it? To endure the rule of the great Drakoryans, or suffer the consequences?”

There’s a sigh in the fog. “What we did…”

“…was your right as rulers. I know.” I look over at him. “Lord Jayx, I will not pretend to want any of this if you will not pretend that your patience is kindness. In the end, you will get what you want. Dragons always get what they want, whether it is the daughters of villagers or the destruction of a village itself.” I pause. “Regardless of what the Lady of Fra’hir says, you are all the same.”

I can now make out enough of his features to see a spasm of hurt cross his face.

“No.” His tone is still kind, but there’s steel in it now. “We are not all the same.” He pauses. “But you are right. We do get what we want.” He looks away. “Tomorrow, my brothers and I will battle in dragon form for first rights to your body. In the past, this battle decided which brother claimed a virgin from Altar Rock. No villager has ever witnessed this combat. We want you to see your lords fight with flame and tooth and claw, so that you may know what we risk for the privilege of taking one so precious. We consider lying with you to be an honor, Isla of Branlock, an honor so great as to temporarily turn brother against brother.”

The mist is starting to clear farther out. I can see the mountain peaks, the craggy depths of the ravine below. I try to imagine dragon fighting dragon over me, a woman pulled half dead from the depths of a well.

I can feel Jayx staring at me. His gaze caresses me like hands. He is close enough that I can feel the heat from his body warming me through the mist.

“And after that?” I ask, although I know what will happen. I shudder. It is easier to imagine these men warring as dragons than to imagine them taking me with anything other than roughness.

Jayx doesn’t immediately answer.

“Afterwards, the victor will take his ease in the healing pools of our castle long enough to mend his wounds and regain his strength. Then he will come to you, Isla of Branlock. He will lay you on the bed and fight a new battle, one that has him control his lust, which is stronger than any dragon. And he will, for it will be his duty to introduce you to the carnal mysteries, to show you how a masterful lord can play the strings of your body’s instrument to perfect pitch, to use his fingers and tongue and cock to draw you away — even for a moment — from the awful pain of your loss. You will drift on an ocean of sensation. You will rise and fall on waves of pleasure. And the only cry you utter will be for your lover to end the misery of your virginity and to fill you with his cock.”

His words have the strangest effect on me. My legs feel heavy, as if rooting me to the mountain under my feet. I gasp and realize that I had been holding my breath. Yet, it is the soft, curious throb between my thighs that is most unnerving. It as if Lord Jayx has stirred something in me that had died the day the dragon destroyed my village.

I know what it is. Desire.

Oh, yes, I have felt it. In my village, we were discouraged, from experiencing such feelings. We were to stay as untouched maidens for three years after the age of claiming, to give the Drakoryans time to take or pass us by. If we weren’t claimed in that time, we could mate with one of our own. There were village boys who would return from the fields, their sleek, ropy arms and lean torsos glistening with sweat. I would draw water for them, and when I handed them a cup they would fix me with slow, easy smiles and hungry eyes. I remember their faces. I remember the tingling pulses of budding need I felt in their presence.

Those boys are dead now. Only I have survived, along with a need that feels like a betrayal of their memory. It is a need as primal as the dragon lords who plucked me from the well where I used to draw water for hopeful village lads.

The fury in her blazing eyes dares me to disagree. They challenge me to argue against the fact that I’m the biggest fucking asshole to ever walk this planet. The men I so fiercely despise; my father, Marcus, Dominic; their indiscretions, their flaws, the evil that lives inside them, is nothing, fucking nothing compared to the rotting soul I seem to host within my body.

I can’t dispute her words. No one single spoken syllable. She gave me all of her. Every inch of her body. Every fragment of her soul. Every morsel of her mind. And every last shred of the love inside her oversized heart.

“I’m sorry your mom died,” she spits, the fury inside her eyes having claimed her completely, coursing through her veins with unrelenting control. “I’m sorry she was taken from you. I’m sorry you’ve let your pain manifest into hate. I’m sorry the both of you are so black inside you can’t see any light when it shines down on you. I’m sorry that all your mother would feel is disappointment that the two people she spent her short life loving, turned so hateful.”

Her words hit hard. They steal the breath from my lungs and cause my feet to stumble backward with the force behind them.

Because they’re true.

A blonde. A brunette. A tea lover. A coffee addict. Two people. One pen name. Haley Jenner is made up of Hailey Bond and Jenna McIntyre. They’re pals, besties if you will, maybe even soulmates. Consider them the ultimate in split personality, exactly the same, but completely different.

They reside on the Gold Coast in Australia’s sunshine state, Queensland. They lead ultra-busy lives as working mums, but wouldn’t want it any other way.

Books are a large part of their lives. Always have been and they’re firm believers that reading is an essential part of living. Escaping with a good story is one of their most favorite things, even to the detriment of sleep.

They love a good laugh, a strong, dominating alpha, but most importantly, know that friendships, the fierce ones, are the key to lifelong sanity and fulfillment.
