Mastering Her Heart is a novel placed in the BDSM world where the heroine, Lainie, has fled her old life searching for something, but not sure exactly what that is. This lands her on the doorstep of her best friends’ home rethinking her life and wondering what should come next.
As Lainie begins to learn a little about how her best friend lives, it intrigues her enough to begin asking questions, as her friend, Bridget, is into the BDSM lifestyle. Even before she can delve into it further, tragedy strikes and sends them all to the hospital where Lainie has to step up and take the reins. Unbeknownst to her she meets the very man, or Dom, her friends had been hoping she’d meet if they had actually made it to the sex club.
Instant attraction strikes from both Lanie and Matthew needing little swaying in either direction from their friends after all. What Lanie does need help on deciding is if the lifestyle is right for her. She’s not used to taking orders, she’s used to giving them. She’s a nurse and used to giving orders, not taking them. Is she really submissive? If Matthew can master her heart than she may be the perfect match for he’s been looking for and she may actually find the peace she’s been longing for.
Mastering Her Heart was up and down for me. At certain points I found their chemistry great and at others I found it lacking. I enjoyed when Lanie was bold vs. just giving in and agreeing so easily. There were also times I felt Matthew was rude vs. being a protective Dom which I felt the author was trying to portray, but unfortunately he just rubbed me the wrong way. I loved the relationship with her best friend and honestly some of the punishments Bridget received were funny in a loving, consensual way. She is in a married relationship and it certainly showed how much her and her husband cared for one other.
