Single In Sitka; The Odds Are Good #1 (Series)
by Katy Regnery (Author)

This review is from: September 30, 2019 By Kay Daniels
Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Heat Level:🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Considering the amazing lineup of excellent books that Regnery has penned, Single In Sitka is one of my favorite series books of Katy’s to date. This book contains it all; sizzling heat between a sexy, single dad and a work-driven journalist. Heart pounding, emotional moments ranging from tears to anxiety to deep swooning. Along with fabulous secondary characters that enrich the story. Single in Sitka is a book you don’t want to miss in 2019!

Amanda finds an ad in the Odds Are Good online dating magazine describing Luke; a single guy in Alaska looking for love. She’s never been to Alaska, but she is picturing a hunky man who can fulfill her nightly fantasies better than her cheating ex ever could. When she’s pressed to fulfill a deadline for where she works, her writing partner throws out the idea of saving the bears in Alaska thus giving her the opportunity to find her hunky soulmate. Unable to turn down a writing assignment…Amanda suddenly finds herself in Alaska with the ability to look up Luke; Mr. Single and hopefully hunky, dreamy Luke. When in Alaska and all that.

Luckily Luke is actually who he says he is, BUT he didn’t place the ad, his sister did. Nothing like a bit of awkward to start things off. You see, the reason Luke is single, his wife passed away two years ago and his sister feels it’s time to get back on the proverbial horse. She’s worried about him. While she takes his kids for the weekend, he meets Amanda and they do hit it off, but decide on a no-strings, just fun agreement. Perfect. She’s only in town for two weeks as it is. Things are great until they both get attached and two weeks aren’t nearly enough.

What do you do when the person you’re falling for lives 800 miles away? How do people make these long distance relationships work? Should they just chalk it up as a fling and move on?

There are so many variables and moving parts when it comes to falling in love as a single father. Luke as an AH HA moment when he realized that when he fell in love with his wife it was just the two of them and he could devote all of his attention to just her. Now, even if he wanted to spend every waking hour with Amanda he couldn’t. He had responsibilities, not that he would trade them for the world, he loved his kids, but this time around it was just different which meant he had to do things differently. I love these kind of intricate details that seem so minute, but add so much flavor

Single in Sitka is such a great story and even though it is a complete standalone I can’t wait to return to Alaska and see what Katy has in store for us next.

  • SINGLE IN SITKA is the first book in a new five-book series, The Odds Are Good

Blog Tour – KISS ME TONIGHT by Emma Hart

KMT-BANNER-LIVE

What do a wrong number text, a burning building, and a quirky florist have in common?

A hunky firefighter with an extra-large…hosepipe.

Kiss Me Tonight, an all-new hilarious standalone romance from New York Times bestselling author Emma Hart is available now!

KISSMETONIGHT-1

In hindsight, I never should have opened that text message. The last thing I needed first thing on a Monday was a picture of some stranger’s, um, eggplant, in my inbox.

I also should have replaced the batteries in my fire alarm, because my Friday night did not need to end with my apartment building going up in flames.

But it’s fine. It’s fine. Everything is fine.

I’m only lying in a hospital bed with more split ends than I’ve ever had, almost all my Earthly possessions have turned to ash, and apparently, they don’t serve wine to patients in this place.

But like I said, it’s fine.

Until he walks in.

The guy who saved my life. My hero. Noah Jacobs.

And the universe is amusing itself at my expense, because the dirty photo I woke up to on Monday?

It’s his.

“Hi.”

I glanced over at him, my lips curving. “Hi.”

“You ready?”

“To escape the madhouse? What do you think?”

“That I should put my foot down.”

I winked and clicked my belt into place. “Let’s go. Where are we going?”

Noah pulled away from the curb. “I was going to let you direct me. I haven’t been in town long, like I said, and I definitely haven’t been out for lunch.”

I leaned back in the seat. “Hmm. What do you want to eat?”

“You’re the one breaking out of jail. I’m happy to go wherever you want to.”

“Oh, no. I hate making decisions like this. Do you know how difficult it is to pick somewhere to eat?” I shifted my whole body so I could look at him. “Do you want Chinese? Thai? Steak? Korean? Pizza? Burgers? Caribbean? Mexican? Spanish? French? Italian?”

Noah’s gaze darted my way. “Do you have all those places in Creek Falls?”

“No, but that doesn’t make the decision any easier,” I replied. “Well? Burgers? Pizza? Mexican? Italian? Steak? Or Chinese?”

“I don’t—shit me, I feel like I’m being interrogated by the fucking Government.”

“You may as well be. Pick somewhere and I’ll tell you where to go.”

“I said you can pick.”

“I don’t care. I’ve been everywhere. They’re all good. You’re the new boy in town. Pick somewhere.”

“You’re demanding, do you know that?”

“Yes, Preston—oh, he’s my brother—regularly points out how demanding and difficult I am.” I paused. “If you really want me to pick, I will, but you can’t complain after.”

He turned the blinker on so we’d head in the direction of Main Street. “You just said they’re all good.”

“They are, but it’s not my fault if you feel like pizza and end up with a taco.”

“I can honestly say that I do not care what I eat for lunch as long as it’s edible.”

“Right. Then turn left, then right, and pull into the parking lot next to the liquor store.”

“I see you’re taking us to a reputable location.”

“Oh, no. The liquor store is a pit stop. It just happens to be on the way to the Mexican place I like.”

“I see. So you’re using me for liquor.”

“You’ve met my great-aunt. Damn straight I’m using you for liquor.”

Review – The Second We Met by Maya Hughes

The Second We Met; Fulton U #2 (Series)
by Maya Hughes (Author)

This review is from: September 29, 2019 By Kay Daniels
Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Heat Level:🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

An enemies-to-lovers, new adult, sports romance. The Second We Met is full of spicy back and forth heat, but also lots of emotional chemistry. Nix and Elle connect like two missing pieces of a puzzle.

Phoenix “Nix” Russo is a great guy. He is opposite of what you would think a college jock to be. Basically raised by his grandfather in the back of his restaurant, while his famous NFL father was on the road The little time Nix did get with him was sought seeking his love and approval. Most of the time you see Nix with his father, it’s a strained relationship at best. Nix wonders if he will ever be good enough even if he reaches the NFL, which broke my heart time and time again. After winning the championship in his senior year, with the draft looming, Nix only has a little time left to enjoy his freedom. Yes, sometimes the parties at his house get out of hand, but that’s no reason to call the cops on him time and time again, but the pink menace across the street seems to think they go hand in hand. One night it goes too far and handcuffs get involved and now he has to clean up his image before the draft.

Elle Masterson is a humanitarian, which is wonderful trait, but the reasons behind why she works so hard isn’t quite so loving. She wants to beat her ex-boyfriend and also needs to payoff her mounting debt before the end of the year. Once she does that then her life can focus on everything good and fun. Until then she has absolutely no time for either of those things and yet they seem to land on her doorstep or across from her doorstep continually. The bane of her existence, Nix Russo and his loud house parties make her life a walking nightmare and they have from the second she met him. One night she was especially exhausted she did what she always does, she called the cops when the noise level was high and she couldn’t sleep. Elle didn’t feel too bad when she saw Nix getting arrested, well…not horrible anyway. That is until he shows up at one of her humanitarian work sites to work off his crime. Maybe she should have rethought calling the cops.

Once Nix and Elle put the nailguns down and stop fighting they find they have more in common than they ever realized, especially when they work together. Who knew?

I love the moments when they are working together helping others. They are my favorite parts of the book. There is a lot to take away from reading a book like this, especially about getting involved and helping others. We all have something to give even if it’s small.

This is the second book in the Fulton U series, but is also a complete standalone. Maya does a great job of connecting both prior and future characters in this book and even though you get to meet these secondary characters who enrich the story, at the heart of it all is Nix and Elle.

Review – What’s Your Sign by Lila Monroe

What’s Your Sign (Standalone)
by Lila Monroe (Author)

This review is from: September 29, 2019 By Kay Daniels
Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Heat Level:🔥🔥🔥🔥

Full of sweet, sexy and lots of laughable moments. What’s Your Sign is the epitome of an office romance where Natalie keeps hoping to dig herself out of a hole, but only ends up finding herself in a bigger one.

The Gazette, where Natalie works, is in jeopardy and in process of a takeover. She finds herself continually throwing herself on the gauntlet to save the paper and her fellow workers, but the hardship really isn’t so hard when the new CEO is handsome and she might have accidently had a makeout session with him before she knew who he was. Ooops.

When the favorite Gazette horoscope writer vanishes Natalie picks up the reigns. No harm no foul. That is until she finds out that one corporate CEO, Justin Rockford is taking the readings to heart.

Justin isn’t like his father, coming in and dismantling a company only to make a profit. Justin actually wants to save the paper and jobs alike and there is something about the horoscope that gives him the advice he likes to hear.  Although, the more time Natalie and Justin spend together the more Natalie realizes that she should probably come clean about the horoscope writing, but that’s the thing with little white lies…they suddenly become a big one that seems insurmountable.

Could she end up losing both the job she loves and the man too?

You will run into a few friends you might be familiar with if you read Cupids Anonymous, but it is not a requirement to have read that book. This is a complete standalone.

Review – Viral by T. Gephart

47004968. sy475

Viral (Standalone)
by T. Gephart (Author)

This review is from: September 27, 2019 By Kay Daniels
Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Heat Level:🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Viral is snarky, sassy and full of wit! What also makes Viral so amazing is that it is a beautiful touching story with a lot of sarcasm tossed in along the way (it’s like she writes my language). This book has everything and I know you will love it!!

Vaughn Hale is every girls wet dream guy. Heartthrob, yes. Faithful, check. In touch with his emotions, ding, ding, ding we have a winner. He also isn’t afraid to be with a strong woman, actually he gets a thrill from it. Holy hotness, Vaughn is a keeper, even though Gillian Duzan does everything to keep him at arms length (Silly woman).

Gillian is an executive for a huge recording label. She is akin to an angel swooping in to save Vaughn and his band from self destruction. Or….something like that. When Vaughn posts a salty message about his best friend and guitarist stabbing him in the back for sleeping with his long time girlfriend all over social media, the post goes viral. Now, his band never had anything close to the following that this post did, considering they typically played to around thirty people and some of those were family and friends. So the fact that his message went viral is big news.

Gillian has done her homework, she sees potential, it’s her job. Her job is not to get involved with the talent, which just so happens to be Vaughn. No matter how hot, persistent, or sweet he actually is. Her father may run the company, but she’s worked long and hard to get to where she is that she isn’t going to jeopardize her position by….getting into positions with the hot, sexy talent. No matter how persistent, good looking, and charming he may be.

When she becomes his babysitter, for lack of a better term, they end up spending quite a lot of time together. It doesn’t take long for their chemistry to blur the lines that should be in place and Vaughn and Gillian to become more than just manager and talent.

With his career ready to become viral itself, Gillian doesn’t feel right about their blurred lines, but Vaughn is anything if not persistent. Why can’t he have the world and the woman too? Gillian isn’t so sure the real world works that way. Before they even get a chance their relationship could implode and everything she’s worked for could end along with his career.

Viral is so much fun to read. You will love the inside look of beginning a band while tackling the world of love. I adore how T. Gephart writes this couple. I couldn’t help getting sucked in and chuckling along through the entire book.

Excerpt

Grady barely felt the chill as he stripped off his freezing, sodden shirt in the equally freezing concrete shell of the mudroom. The silence was distracting. Too distracting, and he could think of little else. The last three mornings, he’d gone about his chores serenaded by chanting monks. Which was strange but…whatever. It didn’t bother him or the animals, and it gave his ranch hands something to laugh about.

Except now there was no music. And that was bothering him, because he suddenly realized he was thinking about her—something he’d been trying not to do. Had her power gone out? Was she sick? Had she fallen in the cottage and smacked her head on the stone floor? Had some kind of seizure? Was she unconscious? Had she decided to up and leave?

Yeah, right…he should be so lucky.

Grady shook his head, growling to himself as he flicked off the running faucet and plunged his hands into the steaming-hot sink of water, washing off the caked-on muck from his hands and arms and chest courtesy of a calf that had gotten itself bogged in a freezing quagmire caused by recent rain and melting almost-frozen ground.

He’d managed to rope it out with the help of two of his hands, its plaintive mooing and the distress of its mother keeping everyone focused on the job but somehow, when they were almost there, he’d managed to lose his balance and fall into the frigid mud.

His hands had laughed their asses off as they’d dragged his out of the muck.

The hot water felt good on his chilled skin as he picked up the cake of soap and lathered his arms and chest and neck. He needed a real shower, of course, but he’d learned a long time ago to wash up before he went inside. The plumbing in the mudroom was way more forgiving than the more delicate pipes inside the cabin.

Thankfully his jeans weren’t as mucky. Ordinarily he’d have stripped them off in the mudroom, too, and walked from the barn to the cabin in his underwear—isolated living did have its advantages—but he wasn’t about to do that with Suzanne St. Michelle nearby.

And great…just great. He was thinking about her again.

He obviously wasn’t getting laid enough. Just how long had it been since he’d been with a woman? Well over a year ago. Probably closer to two. Because that had to be it, that had to be the reason he couldn’t stop thinking about the curvy New Yorker even though she’d stayed on her turf exactly as he had demanded.

Reaching with one hand for the fresh towel that hung over the hook above the sink, he pulled the plug with the other, then proceeded to towel dry. At least up until he heard a faint gasp and spun around to find the woman on his mind standing just inside the doorway, her curves hidden in a huge red coat, that green knitted cap pulled down low over her forehead and ears.

His hands paused mid drying the back of his neck. The room wasn’t big, maybe five feet by five feet, which meant she was way closer to him than he was comfortable with, given his state of undress.

“Oh…I’m…sorry.” Her breath misted into the frigid air as her voice faltered. “I didn’t know you were in here.”

Her eyes fell to his chest, zeroed in on the nickel-size scar just beneath his right collarbone courtesy of some shrapnel, before straying to his pecs and abs for what seemed like forever, the awkward silence stretching. Normally Grady wouldn’t bother filling it because silences were where he felt most comfortable and the other person generally rushed in to fill them up. But Suzanne wasn’t bothering, either.

At least not with her mouth anyway.

Her eyes were a different story. They were having an entire conversation as they roved all over his chest. She was looking at him like he was a slice of one of Annie’s pies, and Christ if that wasn’t like a bullet straight to his dick. The kind of friendly fire he could do without.

Fucking hell. He didn’t want to be pie. Not this woman’s. Not any woman’s. He wanted to be…tofu. Nobody lusted after tofu.

“Had some trouble with a calf.” Grady felt like an explanation might help the situation, but he still felt like an idiot making small talk.

“Was it being born?” She pulled her gaze from his abs to his eyes. “Did you have to stick your hand up inside and drag it out? I saw that on a documentary once and couldn’t believe how messy it was. And how calm the mother was. I mean, I’m not sure I’d be okay to just stand there while someone stuck their entire arm up my hoo-ha, right?”

She hesitated for a moment like she’d done the first day they’d met, like she wasn’t sure this was a topic for polite conversation. But her mouth had already committed, so she jutted her chin and went for it.

“I know it has to be done and, let’s face it, a calf is much bigger than a man’s arm—”

Her gaze dropped to his arms via the scar, his chest, and his belly button. She was looking at him like pie again. Annie’s pecan pie with melted butter. Sweet and savory all at once. An orgasm for the tongue.

Not tofu. Plain, tasteless, orgasmlessTofu.

“Even yours,” she continued, forcing her gaze back to his face, and it took Grady a moment to pick up the thread of her ramblings. She shuddered. “But no thank you. I mean, seriously, females of all species really do get a raw deal. I bet you if the males had to push out disproportionately bigger babies through the passage provided for the process, they’d have invented some kind of handy zipper system a long time ago. Some dude would have patented the bejesus out of it.”

She stopped abruptly, snapping her lips closed as if her mouth had finally received the frantic shut the fuck up messages from her brain. Her cheeks looked pink, but then so did her nose, so it was probably just the nippy December weather.

Grady stared at her, not only at the amount of words she’d spoken but at the content of her monologue. “We…” He spoke because it felt like his turn, but he didn’t even know what to do about cows with zippers. “We don’t calve in winter.”

“Oh, right.” She nodded briskly, her cheeks definitely growing pinker now. “That makes sense. Who wants to be cold and in pain, right?”

She gave a funny little half smile that ended quickly and awkwardly. Then they just stood and stared at each other for several beats longer than was normal or even comfortable, their warm breaths misting into the air.

Tucking her hands into the pockets of her red coat, she said, “I hope it’s okay to have a look around?”

Grady gave a brief, terse nod. “Just don’t go too far or go near the animals.” Last thing he needed was to rescue some damn fool city slicker who’d wandered off and gotten herself lost.

She nodded absently as her gaze drifted again, licking over his chest, lingering on the scar. He should be freezing, half-naked in a room that was little more than an icebox, but with her looking at him like she was trying to commit every line and chest hair to memory, he only felt hot.

Really fucking hot. Melted butter on pecan pie hot.

“I hope—” Her voice sounded a little uneven, and she cleared her throat. “I hope my music hasn’t been disturbing you the last few days.”

He wasn’t sure why she was making small talk—although it was preferable to incessant observations about cow hoo-has and zippers. Nor was he sure why he was standing ramrod straight in front of her, thinking about pie when he should be grabbing the spare shirt he kept in the cupboard above the washbasin and getting decent.

But up had been down since the moment she’d arrived.

“It’s fine,” he dismissed. It hadn’t been the music that had been disturbing him, that was for sure.

She nodded again, glancing around the room briefly before settling her eyes back on his chest. “Well…I guess I’ll…” She didn’t finish the sentence as her gaze once again zeroed in on the scar, and her lips rolled together in contemplation. “Do you mind—?” She stepped forward and raised her hand tentatively.

When he didn’t move because he was paralyzed by the realization she was actually going to touch him, she became bolder, stepping in closer again as her fingers made contact. She was so close now, he could smell her. Coffee and snickerdoodles? And something sharp, maybe chemical. Paint, he supposed.

“Is it a bullet wound?”

Grady flinched as she touched the scar, her fingers like icicles as they sunk into the small indentation. He closed his eyes as heat bloomed from the center, spreading like a ripple, burning like a furnace down the length of his body.

Blood pulsed hard and thick, everywhere. Damn it, she might as well be wrapping that cold hand around the throbbing hardness pressing into the zipper of his fly. It was probably forty degrees in this concrete box, but it felt like a sauna, and it was an easy 120 inside his boxers.

He swallowed. “It’s from…shrapnel.”

He had no idea why he wasn’t stepping back. He should step back. He should have said, Yes, I do mind, told her it was none of her business. He should be finding a shirt.

Find a fucking shirt, idiot.

“Did it hurt?”

Surprised by the question, he glanced down to find the bulky knit of her hat a whisker away from brushing the underside of his chin. “Like a bastard.”

She looked up and they were close—her mouth was close—her fingers a balm to the old wound that still made his shoulder ache on cold winter mornings. His heart thumped like a jungle drum and god almighty, it was hot enough in here to grow bananas.

“Was it bad? Did you bleed a lot?”

His throat was dry as the concrete beneath his feet. “It bled some.” Then, finally getting his shit together, he took a step back, and her hand slid away.

If his distancing bothered her, she didn’t show it, just simply said, “Thank you for your service.”

Grady didn’t know what to say. He never knew what to say to this standard platitude. He appreciated the sentiment, but he’d just been doing his job. So he nodded, his pulse reverberating like a dinner gong in his ears, as she slowly backed out of the room and disappeared from sight.

Reaching for the sink, Grady gripped the curved edge in both his hands and hunched over, dropping his head down between his shoulder blades and taking some deep steadying breaths.

January could not come soon enough.

She also loves sunsets and rainbows, unicorns and mermaids, booze and travel. And her home that overlooks the ocean. She may also happen to believe she was a Roman goddess in her past life because its the only thing that explains her adoration for all things Italy.

Cocky Player, an all-new standalone sports romance from Stacey Lynn is now live!

CockeyPlayer-Amazon.jpg

Like most guys I have a type— she wasn’t mine. Not at all.

The angelic beauty on the dance floor has innocence written all over her. But I can’t
stay away. And when she runs from me, leaving me wanting more, I can’t get her out
of my head.

Turns out finding her won’t be too hard. My mystery virgin is the new marketing
assistant for the Rough Riders Football team. And the owner’s daughter.

She wants to lose her virginity and she’s come to me for one thing, and one thing
only. I’ll gladly help her out, but we have to be careful no one discovers us.

The last thing I need is for my boss to find out I’ve been teaching his baby girl all my
dirtiest plays.

But I didn’t get to be MVP by playing by the rules.

Blog tour (25).jpg

Excerpt:

A chill skittered down my arms and to my toes until my body erupted in goose bumps. Hairs at the back of my neck stood on end. Someone was watching me.

I stopped moving so quickly I bumped into Gina and reached out to keep her from falling onto the dance floor.

“Sorry!” I called out, but I didn’t look at her as she resettled to her feet.

My gaze was focused, skipping from the men on the dance floor to the outer circle of guys who stayed close, probably couldn’t shimmy their hips to a beat if their life depended on it but enjoyed watching the show, to the stairs…the upper level.

Straight to him.

He was there. Hands curled around a silver railing. Buttoned up white shirt un-tucked from jeans and sleeves rolled to his elbows. Casual.

Commanding.

Long dark hair on top, swept to the side but long enough it could also fall into his eyes.

I simply felt his pull. Felt him.

I stood still and raised my drink in his direction.

His response was a nod. So minuscule it was difficult to see from the distance but even then, I knew he was the one watching me.

And if he wanted to watch? I’d give him the show of his life.

Two men flanked him, one shoved his shoulder, the other crossed his arms over his massive chest. The men were huge.

Yes. That was going to be him.

If he could gain my attention with a look from a hundred feet away, he was definitely the kind of guy who could do other things to me even more intensely.

ASK ME IF I CARE
SWAT Generation 2.0 Book 4
Release Day – April 14th,
2020
Ares saw him for the first time at a Kilgore Police Department benefit dinner. She’d gone with her dad as his plus one. Hayes Greer had gone by himself and brooded silently across the same table as her, drinking whiskey and not saying a word.
It only took that one time for her to become interested.
The next time she saw him, he was doing another benefit—but
this one requiring a whole lot fewer clothes. And that was when she knew. She wanted him. Badly. But the morose Hayes was too busy thinking about his sins to see what was right in front of his face—Ares.
***
Hayes Greer knew the moment that he saw the feisty Ares
Downy again that he should’ve stayed away. Maybe if he hadn’t done the stupid calendar, he wouldn’t be questioning every single woman’s intentions.
Maybe if he’d listened to that niggling feeling telling him
to stay away, he would’ve been able to do his job a little better. But seeing her with a knife to her throat, in the middle of a building set to blow, made his usually well-wired brain start to malfunction.
Because nobody was allowed to touch her like that—only him.
Nobody was allowed to scare her, either. Not and live to tell the tale.

This is for charity. This is for fun. You are a professional. You can do it.
Those are the words that Calloway Alvarez chants to herself as she watches all the large men gather into the small room where she’ll be doing the interviews for her employer—Hero Magazine.
Honestly, she’s convinced herself that she can’t accomplish the task at hand.
That is until she hears his voice, and her head turns to see him standing there.
Louis Spurlock. Greek god. SWAT officer. Keeper of her secrets. Ultimate fantasy. Man who will break her heart.
***
Louis Spurlock has been playing nice.
He’s been biding his time, giving Calloway the space she thinks she needs.
But then he sees her taking photos of his friends in all states of dress, talking to them all as if they’re best friends, and that little thread of control he’d been managing to hold onto unravels.
Let’s change it up, she says. And the moment the words are out of her mouth, he’s stripping to his skivvies, and throwing out a challenge while he’s at it.
Calloway won’t know what hit her when he’s through playing.
But he does know one thing for sure. When it ends, she’ll be his.

JOKES ON YOU
SWAT Generation 2.0 Book 5
Release Day – June 09, 2020
Booth Pena definitely didn’t make the smartest of decisions when he was a teenager.
At eighteen, he knocked a girl up and signed up for the military all in the same day—signing his life away in more ways than one. Fast forward six weeks and he’s in bootcamp learning that he’s going to be a father
while also learning that not only is he going to be deployed, but it’s going to stay that way for a year.
There weren’t a lot of things that the baby’s mother and he
saw eye to eye on after that. He honestly wasn’t sure why he even slept with her in the first place.
Okay, that last part is a lie. He knows exactly why he slept
with her. Because the real woman he’s in love with, her twin sister, Dillan, won’t give him the time of day.
Five years later, and he still wants her.
Now he’s home for good, being the best father and police
officer that he can be, and still he’s not good enough.
***
Dillan Davidsdottir hated Booth Pena. Immensely.
She hated him because he slept with her sister, then left.
Granted, she knew that he hadn’t meant to leave like he did, unknowingly and unconsciously leaving his daughter behind, but that didn’t change the fact that he had.
Five years later, and she still dislikes him just as much
now as she did when he chose the wrong sister to take to his bed.
Maybe if he’d chosen her, her heart wouldn’t be broken, and
his wouldn’t be untouchable.
But when a SWAT officer sees his life flash before his eyes,
and decides that enough is enough, what’s a girl to do?

Give in, that’s what.

New Release – Mine until Moonrise by Jennifer Bernard

Image may contain: 4 people, ocean, phone, text and water

Today we have the release blitz for Jennifer Bernard’s MINE UNTIL MOONRISE, the FIRST book in the new Lost Harbor series! Check it out and be sure to grab your copy today!

It’s a fine line between feuding and flirting…

Ever since Megan Miller arrived in stunning Lost Harbor, Alaska, she’s been at odds with boat captain Lucas Holt. They’re opposites in every way. She’s a city girl, he’s from an Alaska homestead. She runs nature tours, he’s all about big-money charters. He’s also arrogant, annoying and oh yeah, wildly attractive. Lost Harbor would be the perfect escape from the tragedy that sent her running–except for her feud with the hottie captain.

Lucas Holt came home for one thing—settle his father’s affairs then hightail it back to Colorado. So why is he still here? Is it because there’s something fishy about his father’s death? Is it the endearingly eccentric locals and enchanting scenery? Or could it be Lost Harbor’s newest resident, a sassy scientist who’s as sexy as she is stubborn? Arguing with Megan is the best foreplay he’s had in years.

Until one of Lost Harbor’s dangerous storms tosses everything up in the air, and a feud turns to a passionate affair–with stakes higher than Megan ever imagined.

Cover Reveal – Violent Triumphs by Jessica Hawkins

Cover Designer: Najla Qamber Designs
Cover Photographer: Perrywinkle Photography

Release date: 11.12.19

The highly anticipated conclusion to the “emotional, steamy, and dangerous” USA Today bestselling White Monarch series.

I’ve become a queen to the forsaken, a leader to thieves, and the wife of a man who instills fear in all who cross his path. He was the husband I didn’t want. Now, I can’t fathom life without my king.

I should’ve been ready for anything. Like the caterpillar that feeds on poison during metamorphosis, I was raised in the dangerous world of cartel crime. But nothing could’ve prepared me for Cristiano de la Rosa, his brother’s poison, or the Calavera cartel.

This is still a story about a love strong enough to topple households, unite enemies, and divide brothers. Resilient enough to bring down those who would try to destroy it . . . and selfless enough to make the ultimate sacrifice.

But I was warned, and so were you. Death’s day always comes. This time, it will find what was once a caterpillar is now a butterfly—and hell hath no fury like the White Monarch.

New Release – The Scene Stealer by Renee Harless

RELEASE BLITZ
Title: The Scene Stealer
Author: Renee Harless
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Release Date: September 26, 2019

BLURB

Scene Stealer (noun) (scene-steal•er | \ ˈsēn-ˌstē-lər): an actor who attracts attention when another is intended to be the center of attention.

The glow of fame only casts shadows. The name Devyn Dane was once lit up amongst the stars. Everyone worshiped me. But now, I’m on the edge of darkness. No one warned me about the fall. My crash was lethal. These days I’m nothing more than a forgotten child-star with a tainted reputation.

Redemption is what I need. When a chance is handed to me, I vow not to blow it—I can’t. This could launch me back to stardom. But nothing is given freely in Hollywood. Everything comes with a price. This time, mine is a bombshell waitress battling insecurities deep enough to rival even my own.

The resilient Larsen is a mystery I can’t wait to unravel. Her brokenness makes me feel not so alone. But together, we are a complete mess that should never work. I know it, Hollywood knows it, and someone is Hell-bent on making sure we don’t beat the odds.

I truly believed she was my ally. An added boost on my rise back to fame. But the shine of Hollywood masks many things. She broke my focus, pulling me away from the most important goal.

That’s the thing with a scene stealer – you never see them coming.

AUTHOR BIO

Renee Harless, her husband, and children live in Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia.  She studied Communication, specifically Public Relations, at Radford University.

Growing up, Renee always found a way to pursue her creativity. It began by watching endless runs of White Christmas- yes even in the summer – and learning every word and dance from the movie. She could still sing Sister Sister if requested. In high school she joined the show choir and a community theatre group, The Troubadours. After marrying the man of her dreams and moving from her hometown she sought out a different artistic outlet – writing.

To say that Renee is a romance addict would be an understatement. When she isn’t chasing her toddler around the house, working her day job, or writing, she delves head first into a romance novel.

AUTHOR BIO

Before writing steamy romantic comedy novels, Kayley Loring got a BFA in creative writing from a Canadian university and had a fifteen-year career as a screenwriter in Los Angeles (under a different name). She mostly wrote PG-13 family comedies that studios would pay her lots of money for and then never make into movies. In 2017 she decided to move to the Pacific Northwest and write about all the fun stuff that she wasn’t allowed to write about in those PG-13 scripts. Now she’s breathing cleaner air and writing dirtier words. It’s an adjustment she’s happily getting used to.

RK - CR banner.jpg

Releasing Keanu, and all-new friends to lovers, second chance romance from USA Today bestselling author Siobhan Davis, is coming December 30th and we have the steamy cover!

ReleasingKeanu_ecover.jpg

KEANU

Selena played me.

Confirming I wasted years loving someone who didn’t love me back.

It should be easy to move on, but since she dumped me, I can’t shake her from my thoughts, no matter how hard I try.

Dates and random hookups don’t help, because no one measures up to the girl I still love with my whole heart.

When she appears at my door, begging me for help, I can’t turn her away. My protective instincts kick in, and I grasp this second chance with both hands.

This time, I’m determined to open her eyes.

To help her realize she made a mistake throwing what we had away.

To prove our love is the real deal.

SELENA

Keanu has it all wrong.

I let him go because I love him too much to continue holding him back.

And I’ve paid for it every day since.

I didn’t think it was possible to miss someone this much, but my entire being aches for him in a way that isn’t healthy.

It’s why I continue to keep my distance even though it’s killing me inside.

No one understands me the way he does, so, when my ugly past returns, threatening to undo years of progress, he’s the first person I run to.

If anyone can keep me safe, it’s the love of my life.

Maybe, this time, I’m strong enough to be the woman he deserves.

If my past doesn’t take me from him first.

BOOK BLURB

From bestselling author, Dr. Rebecca Sharp, comes an emotional, small-town romance with a twist…

For years, I was close enough to fame to touch it. Taste it. Drink it.

Until one more drink became my answer to everything.

Until one night I made a mistake which couldn’t be undone.

So, I cut all ties to my former life and the addiction that destroyed it. And I left in search of redemption on the other side of the country.

After months building a new future, I thought my past had stayed put.

Until I opened my front door to find she’d followed me.

Taylor Hastings. My sister’s best friend.

And the good girl I’d never been good enough for.

Not then. Not now. Not ever.

One glance at Taylor’s face told me she’d come searching for a safe haven. One glance at the swell of her stomach told me she hadn’t come alone.

I didn’t hesitate to offer her my help and my home because looking out for her was the right thing to do…

Even if the way I wanted her would always be wrong.

So, I kept my distance. And Taylor kept her secrets.

Until one kiss changed everything.

Until one kiss made me realize it wasn’t our first.

Forgetting the coffee, forgetting my houseguest, and forgetting I was shirtless, I stalked over to the door, heart pounding, and yanked open the latch handle with the mugs in one hand expecting anything. Or everything.

Everything but emerald.

“Taylor?”

I gaped and stared at the angel from my past, her jewel-cut eyes crystallizing around my gaze.

Taylor.

Here.

I would’ve been less surprised to see the Pope, dressed as Santa, here to wish me Happy Hanukkah than to find Taylor Hastings at my door.

Like everyone else from my past life, I hadn’t seen her in five months. But unlike everyone else, Taylor was the only one with the perspicacity to see my demons and know they’d driven me here.

My heart continued to race for a whole slew of reasons I couldn’t give name to, and my body felt like it was waking up for the first time in months. All because of her.

I couldn’t believe she was here… and it looked like neither could she.

Ash… Hi…” Her brilliant smile flashed for a split-second.

She stammered like she’d expected someone else to answer the door to a rundown shack on the other side of the country.

She licked her lips and I felt a shock of desire straight to my groin. The alcohol might have elevated – and exacerbated – most of my other emotions, but the desire drunk-Ash had felt for Taylor was nothing compared to the Earth-shaking need sober-Ash suffered right now.

Months, miles, and sobriety hadn’t dulled the way I wanted her.

But I’d wanted her for decades… I doubted even death could stop it now.

I shook my head. “Sorry. I just can’t believe you’re on my doorstep. What… What are you doing here? Is everything okay? Is my sister okay?”

She nodded frantically. “Yes, I’m sorry. Blake is fine. Everyone is fine. Well, everyone but me.” At that moment, her eyes ducked down and, for better or for worse, my gaze roamed down the length of the small frame that managed to create a Goliath-sized amount of lust in me.

As always, the gentle slope of her neck was cut off by a collared shirt, layered over with a royal-purple sweater. NorCal was chilly this time of year, so I couldn’t hold that against her, but it only hinted at the slopes of her tits, and that I would always protest. But there, instead of the fabric falling back in over her stomach, it pushed out.

Jesus Christ.

Was I… Was I seeing this right?

My mouth went dry and my heart ran like the fucking cops were chasing it.

Was Taylor pregnant?

My gaze whipped to hers. “Taylor…”

Where the hell did I even begin?

‘Are you pregnant?’

No, definitely not. I knew better than to ask that to any woman. Fuck.

There were a million questions, so many things I needed to know, and every second that went by felt like my body and my brain were stretched farther on the rack – tortured with wondering.

“Can we talk?” My eyes jerked back up to her face hearing her soft, strained voice. “Can… Can I come in?”

Yes. Talk. Explain.

What. The. Fuck. Was. Happening.

I was unable to process that the most innocent and chaste girl I’d ever met – the girl who’d never had a boyfriend to my knowledge – was standing at my door with a bump in her sweater that was never there before. And I would know because I was always fucking looking at her.

“Shit. Sorry.” I nodded, biting my cheek. “Of course, you can. I wasn’t expecting… you,” I finished dumbly. “You surprised me.”

I wasn’t an idiot. At least, for the past four-ish months I hadn’t been an idiot. But five seconds in her presence turned me into a goddamn fool – forgetting every fucking thing around me.

“Ash,” Danny’s voice coming up behind me was like a bucket of ice water over my head. “Who is it…” She trailed off in surprise like any normal woman would, walking up behind the guy she was casually seeing to find him standing at his door, talking to a woman who was obviously knocked up.

I knew what Danny was thinking but she was wrong.

Alcohol may have damaged many of my brain cells but I still knew the difference between fantasies and fucking – and fantasies, no matter how realistic or how frequently I’d had them about Taylor, couldn’t get her pregnant.

So, there was no way in hell that I was the father.

EXCERPT

She was so damned pretty. She’d always been a tiny package, not even coming up to my shoulders. Yet she had curves. Lots of them. Even in the drab sweatpants and white t-shirt two sizes too large—which didn’t hide the fact she wasn’t wearing a bra—she was perfect. From her hot pink toenails to her wild hair and every soft inch in between. And it was those soft inches I’d fantasized as I rubbed one out. For years.
Her chocolate colored eyes were red rimmed from crying, but it was what I could see in them, the honesty, the truth behind her words. She’d wanted us, but somehow, in some fucked up way, got the idea Nix and I were into each other and not her.
Words weren’t going to work here.
“Fuck it,” I said, stepping up to her, cupping her face in my hands and kissing her. This wasn’t a sisterly fucking peck. Oh no. I devoured her, swallowed her gasp, claimed that hot, sweet mouth as mine. There was no fucking way she’d think we were gay now.
Nix growled, an animalistic sound I could relate to. I lifted my head, stepped back, watched Kit sway. Her eyes were closed, her lips red and glistening. Nix nudged me out of the way and kissed her next. Seeing my best friend with Kit didn’t make me jealous. It made me hard. My dick could pound nails. She’d been ours for so long and now we could finally prove it.
There was no confusion now. I’d wanted her for so long, I was beyond sexually frustrated. I was just frustrated. A misunderstanding of fucking epic proportions had driven Kit to a different fucking state. Even worse, she’d been back in Cutthroat for five weeks. Five. Fucking. Weeks. Neither Nix or I had known. More time lost.
And now… fuck, now she was mixed up in a murder? A prime suspect because she had no alibi. She’d been covered in Erin’s blood. Her DNA was all over the body. Nix had shared this much with me, but I didn’t need the details to know she was innocent. What would be her motive? Money? Did Kit want Erin dead to take over the business for herself? Had Erin made her a beneficiary in her will? Life insurance? Erin had been twenty-five, not seventy-five. If there had been a blip on any of these questions, no doubt my office would have heard by now and put Kit behind bars.
But I’d heard nothing from the Mills family. Nothing from my boss, who no doubt played golf with Keith Mills. As prosecutor, it was my job to see the murderer put behind bars. Using evidence. Motive. Means. It was Nix’s job to find all that, mine to make a jury believe it without a shadow of a doubt.
Getting involved with the prime suspect of a murder investigation? Not a smart move. Ever since my mom had been hit and killed by a drunk driver—ever since the guy had gotten off with a slap on the wrist and a few points on his license—I’d made it my mission to see bad guys get the justice they deserved. Everything I’d done since then had been to see that happen. It wouldn’t bring my mom back, but it might give others the peace of mind, the ability to sleep at night, that I didn’t get.
Besides all that, my dad would shit a brick if he knew I was getting myself in deep with Kit Lancaster. Since he was mayor, he was probably tugging at his shirt collar worrying that a killer in Cutthroat wouldn’t be found. That wouldn’t sit right with the voters. Oh, he loved having a son in the DA’s office—to him our two jobs were like peanut butter and jelly for keeping the town safe—but not one who fucked the prime suspect.
Regardless of her being called that, Kit was innocent. Sure, if she were on trial, being with her would be a disaster, not only for the case, but for my job. The defense team would cite anything from conflict of interest to tampering with the defendant. The case would be thrown out. I’d be fired. Hell, I’d probably be disbarred.
But Kit was innocent. This wasn’t some easy lay. Fuck, no. This was Kit Lancaster. I was marrying this woman. She wasn’t a murderer. She was mine. Ours.
She wouldn’t be arrested. She wouldn’t go to trial. There was no conflict of interest. Nix would prove she wasn’t involved, that she was innocent. That would come. Tonight? I was going to make sure Kit did. On my cock. On my tongue. All night long.
When Nix stepped back, he leaned down, picked her up and tossed her over his shoulder. Fuck, yes.

Becks:
How does a straight guy accidentally come out as gay to the entire country music world?
I’ll get back to you when I know the answer.
It all happened so fast. One moment, my best friend’s little brother is standing in a sea of people as his boyfriend breaks his heart. Again.
The next, I’m jumping off stage mid-concert to give him the kiss of his life–or maybe the kiss of my life.
I’m Beckett Anderson. Yes, that Beckett. The one who never does the smart thing, messes up daily, and somehow ended up with millions of screaming fans.
Fans who now think I’m dating Nicky St. Germaine.
The label says I can’t come out as straight (Is that even a thing?), that I can’t tell the world I lied.
But this lie of mine… it doesn’t hold a candle to the one I tell myself.

Nicky:
How does the quiet gay guy end up kissing the straight country music star in front of thousands of his screaming fans?
I still can’t fathom what he was thinking when he jumped off that stage, but that kiss… None of it was real, but it felt like it. At least to me.
I’m Nicky St. Germaine, son of a football Hall of Famer, best friends with rock star, Nari Won Song–and whatever I am to Country Music sensation, Beckett Anderson. The jury’s still out on that one. What does a small town kid do when so many of his friends and family are famous? He hides. Frequently.
Now the spotlight is on me, and there is nowhere left to hide. I’m supposed to pretend to be Beckett’s adoring boyfriend for a few weeks, but that’s not so easy when I’d give almost anything for it to be true.

AUTHOR BIO

USA Today Bestselling Author, NANA MALONE’s love of all things romance and adventure started with a tattered romantic suspense she borrowed from her cousin on a sultry summer afternoon in Ghana at a precocious thirteen. She’s been in love with kick butt heroines ever since.

With her overactive imagination, and channeling her inner Buffy, it was only a matter a time before she started creating her own characters. Waiting for her chance at a job as a ninja assassin, Nana, meantime works out her drama, passion and sass with fictional characters every bit as sassy and kick butt as she thinks she is.

The books in her series have been on multiple Amazon Kindle and Barnes & Noble best seller lists as well as the iTunes Breakout Books list and most notably the USA Today Bestseller list.

Until that ninja job comes through, you’ll find Nana working hard on additional books for her series as well as other fun, sassy romances for characters that won’t leave her alone. And if she’s not working or hiding in the closet reading, she’s acting out scenes for her husband, daughter and puppy in sunny San Diego.

Mike

The music was loud, and the place was packed. It definitely wasn’t my comfort zone, but the guys wanted to blow off some steam after the last trip. So here I was, towering over most everyone, in a dance bar. I stood in the corner and watched people’s faces for any sign of aggression or for any sudden movement that could possibly mean a fight would follow. I had an urge to manhandle someone, and that wasn’t good. Maybe I’d just been spending too much time with Trigger. In his world, the law was just a word and not something to follow.
Oh, that reminds me.
“Cole.” I signaled for him to follow me. I led him outside to the poorly lit patio where a bouncer checked kids’ IDs.
“What’s up?” He downed a bottle of water and tossed it into a can.
“I just spent some time with Trigger.” I saw and understood Cole’s discomfort with the topic. He knew Trigger and I had a past, and he made the effort to respect that. It was important to me to keep my friendship with him. Cole knew Trigger and I were a lot more alike than most realized.
“How’s he doing?”
“Good. I know he carries his uncle’s death on his shoulders, but he’ll bounce back.”
“Mm,” Cole grunted. None of us were shy on the topic of death.
“He gave me this.” I handed him the scrap of paper. “It’s the location of Salvador’s summer house.” Cole smiled wryly at my description. Thesummer house was where Salvador kept his drugs and where his crew cut and bagged it for distribution.
“How legit is this?” He pulled out his phone.
“If Trigger gave it to me, it’s legit.”
Cole nodded his agreement and held his phone to his ear. “Tell him thanks.” He hit my arm and headed down the road for some privacy. “Frank, I’ve got something for you.”
I sagged against the cool bricks and closed my eyes, needing a moment to shake off Luna’s death. Now the hunt for her sister was that much larger. Poor Martina was a mess when we’d left her at the safe house.
Fuck the cartel!
My phone vibrated in my pocket, and I thought about ignoring it. It wasn’t until the fourth buzz that I gave in.
“Hello.”
“Hi, Banner.” My mother greeted me with my childhood nickname. “Are you still coming by tomorrow? You never answered my text.”
Damn! I rubbed my head and tried to slip back into this life. It was hard to go from scaling cliffs and scoping out a kill to doing laundry and attending your sister’s birthday party.
“Sorry, Mom.” I turned my back to the bar door. I had completely forgotten about my sister’s birthday. “Yeah, I’ll be there. Four, right?”
“Okay, good.” She paused. “What’s wrong?”
“Just a hard week.”
“Well, you come by and let your mama take care of you.”
I grinned like a child. No matter how old I got, she still loved to care for me.
“Are the rest of the boys coming?”
“Mark mentioned about leaving a day early, but I think he just wants to find an excuse to get out of his son’s friend’s birthday party.”
“Well, you tell Marky he’s more than welcome. We always have extra food.”
“I will.” I chuckled. I knew all I had to do was mention a barbecue and Mark would be game. “Love you.”
“Love you more, Banner. Night.”
I slipped my phone back in my pocket and began to head inside when I heard someone softly curse behind me. I turned slowly to find a girl on her phone. The lighting was poor where she was standing, so I couldn’t get a good look at her face, but her long, lean legs under her black skin-tight dress did catch my attention. Her sexy curves had me moving closer.
“You need to call me back, Javier.” Her Hispanic accent was there, but you could tell she had spent a lot of time learning English. “And I want the camera back that you stole!” She brushed at her hair like she was upset. “You just…I need to know where you are.” She dropped her arm and swung around but jumped as she saw me.
“Sorry.” I raised my hands to show I wasn’t a threat. I’d learned through time that even when I was trying to be kind, people saw me as scary. “Didn’t mean to eavesdrop.”
Her shoulders sagged as she sighed. “It’s fine,” she said, trying to be nice. “Just a shitty night.”
“I hear ya on that one.”
Her gaze shot up to mine, and I saw the fire that smoldered behind her hazel eyes. She squinted and seemed to really look at me for the first time. For whatever reason, she reined herself back, and the embers faded from those eyes. I found myself wanting to fan the flames so I could see it again, but I left the thought alone.
“Rough night with your mom?” She snickered.
I couldn’t help but laugh at that. She must have spotted me when she left the bar.
“You always listen to other people’s phone calls?”
“I could say the same about you,” she shot back. “You were in my spot.”
“Spot?” I stepped a little closer, feeling like it was all right to do so, before I leaned my weight into the pole and hunkered down.
She tucked her phone into her tiny purse and folded her arms like she was chilly. “Yes. It’s one of the only well-lit spots around this dive of a bar. The place creeps me out.”
I nodded. She was right. The place did cast a lot of shadows.
“So, imagine my surprise when I go to step outside and see you,” she dragged her finger in the air, gesturing up the length of me, “in my spot chatting away to your mother.” She couldn’t help but smirk again.
The look on her face told me she was intrigued by me, and I kind of enjoyed that.
“Well, you’re in the one percent that didn’t turn away screaming.”
“You exaggerate, but why would I scream?” She seemed genuinely curious.
I held out my arms so she could get a good look. “What do you see when you look at me?”
She paused as she took me in. “I don’t know you.”
“I know, but first impressions matter, so tell me what you see.”
“Okay.” She stepped a little closer, which drew her into the light. My stomach twisted when I took in her slim body, long dark-brown hair that curled to the bottom of her back, slender legs, and a face that made my world tilt for just a moment.
“Stand,” she commanded like she took it seriously.

EXCERPT

“But you are… You’re going to run a Christmas tree farm?”
“At least temporarily. Everything’s ready to go now, which means finishing out the year, or the next few years, is guaranteed money in the bank to begin other ventures. There’s contracts already made with outfits around the country, truckers on hand to drive the things to their destinations. And he owns that small lot down on the main street of town. So, I’m all set not only to sell this year’s crop around the country, but also sell it here.”
“But you don’t… You don’t actually want to…be a Christmas tree farmer?”
“My ultimate goal is cattle,” he said.
She’d had no idea. None at all. Not that he wanted his own ranch, not that he’d been unhappy at the school. Was he unhappy at the school? Was he leaving?
“What does this mean for your position at the school?”
“I will be leaving. Which I will be talking to Gabe about later tonight.”
“But…”
“With West Caldwell coming into town, there’s no need for me to hang around. He’s going to be working on the ranch.”
“Your half brother that you’ve never met. That’s putting a lot of stock in a man you don’t even know.”
“Gabe figures we owe him. And, since Gabe is awash in guilt over the whole half sibling thing, I figure that works in my favor.”
As much as Ellie loved Hank Dalton, the patriarch of the Dalton clan, it was becoming more and more clear that he was problematic. A couple of years ago it had been discovered that he had a daughter that none of them had known about. McKenna Tate. She’d come into town after discovering the identity of her family, and after some adjusting, the Dalton family had welcomed her into the full. But on the heels of that revelation had come another one.
There were three more children. All adults now.
Hank had never known about them. But Tammy had.
It had changed the relationship, that reveal.
But Hank was awash enough in the guilt from the actions in his past, that the two of them were trying to work through it to an extent. And Ellie really hoped that they did. For some selfish reasons, if she was honest. Because she loved them, and they were the closest thing to a family for her, and she didn’t want to lose them.
“But… Don’t you want to wait and see if it’s going to work out?”
“No,” Caleb said. “I don’t want to work at the school forever. This is what I want.”
That made her…angry and she couldn’t figure out exactly why. He deserved to have dreams; of course he did. But she’d just…assumed he was happy with the way things were. She’d somehow meshed his dreams together with hers.
Had decided that what she was doing with his family ranch, with the school, was what he wanted, too.
But if she didn’t feel great about him fighting fires anymore, maybe he didn’t, either. And she’d never asked. She’d only thought about it in terms of her own comfort. That wasn’t right at all.
Still, the idea of him having his own endeavors, his own life farther away from her and not right all around her while they worked…
She needed him. She really had. She still did.
She didn’t like this…this change. But she should be happy for him, and it made her feel… She felt bad. And she didn’t like feeling bad about something that was good for her friend.
“I’d… Well, congratulations,” she said. Even though she didn’t feel like congratulating him at all. She felt like having a tantrum.
She really didn’t know why.
“Thank you,” he said, his mouth quirking up into a half smile that made it very clear he was well aware she wasn’t having the best reaction to his news.
“I’ll miss seeing you.” The words more plaintive than she intended.
“I’m not moving away,” he said.
“Yeah, but I see you all the time,” she protested.
“You will still see me all the time.”
“But you won’t be dropping Amelia off when I want you to.”
“Probably not.”
Her stomach twisted, but that wasn’t what was upsetting her. She knew it wasn’t.
And then it hit her, as strongly as that melancholy had when she’d realized it was nearly the Christmas season.
This phase of life was over.
The one where he was here to carry her. Where she had a crutch to get her through what life looked like without Clint. Being a single mother.
It was changing.
It had begun to change months ago, when the idea for the school had come about. She had gone back to work.
But she’d been a fledgling, and he’d been there to help her.
Maybe she needed to make some changes, too.
Maybe, instead of dreading Christmas, she needed to get started on her wish list.

New Release – Kiss Me Tonight by Emma Hart

It’s his.

EXCERPT

“I wouldn’t miss the wedding for anything.” Katie needed to meet Dan in person and figure out a way to save her sister from herself. And if she managed it early on in the week, then they might still all be home in time to spend Christmas in Honeysuckle Cottage.
With luck, her mother would be too focused on Rosie to notice that anything was wrong with Katie. “I can’t wait to be Bridesmaid of Honor, or whatever the correct title is. Don’t dress me in purple polyester, that’s all I ask. I don’t want static shock. And don’t spend too much money.” Because this wedding isn’t happening. She turned as the door opened and Mike walked into the room. “I need to go. I’m at work.”
“I’m proud of you. Katie. I tell everyone my big sister is a doctor.”
Big sister is falling apart.
She was a fraud. “Go. Have fun, but not so much fun you forget your inhalers.”
“Katie—”
“I know. I’m the inhaler police. Party. Live life. I’ll call you tomorrow.” She ended the call and slid her feet back into her shoes.
Mike raised an eyebrow. “Nothing like giving out advice you don’t take yourself. When did you last party and live life?”
“I’m partying in my mind. I’m at a virtual party right now.”
“Does that come with a virtual hangover? Who is getting married?”
“My sister. In less than four weeks.”
“This is the sister who is studying fairy tales?”
Katie winced. “I might have overdone that joke. She’s studying Celtic languages, myth and folklore at a certain Ivy League college. She would claim it contributes to the understanding of the culture and beliefs of society. It has been the subject of many lively arguments round the dinner table. She really is super smart, but I still think of her as my little sister and I overdo the teasing.” She rubbed her forehead with her fingers. “It feels like yesterday I was reading her board books.”
“Big age difference?”
“Ten years. I think my parents had given up on having another child, and then Rosie arrived.”
“And you were hit by a massive dose of sibling jealousy?”
“What?” Katie stared at him. “No. I adored her. Right from the first moment I saw her funny little hairless head.” She thought about Rosie, an adorable toddler, following her everywhere. Rosie in her favorite dinosaur pajamas. Rosie turning blue with an asthma attack. “I confess I might be a tad overprotective, which is why I’m flying to Colorado to meet this guy.”
“You haven’t met him?”
“No. And don’t look at me that way. I’m already freaked out. They’ve known each other a couple of months. What can you know about someone in a few months? What if he’s a gambler, or a narcissist? He could be a psychopath. Maybe a serial killer.”
He leaned against the door and folded his arms. “Dr. Doom. Always the optimist.”
“I am not Dr. Doom. I am Dr. Reality, thanks to the years I’ve spent working here. Having the realities of life under your nose tends to cure optimism. There are no certainties in this life, we both know that.”
“All the more reason to grab the happy moments that come your way. Maybe a couple of weeks enjoying outdoor living and breathing in mountain air will be good for you.”
“Maybe.” Blocking out his concerned look, she let the door swing closed behind her.
She didn’t care about outdoor living. She didn’t care about mountain air. She didn’t even care about a white Christmas.
She was flying to Colorado for one reason, and one reason only.
She was going to stop her sister’s wedding.
