A slow burn romance, that covers enemies to friends to roommates to lovers. Add in a splash of age-gap and family drama, this contemporary romance has a bit of everything to satisfy every Blue Beech lover.
I think what I love the most about Charity Ferrell books is that she doesn’t shy away from tough topics. Her past Blue Beech books have covered things like spouse loss, miscarriage, losing a family member, and more. In Just Roommates we meet Sierra, Kyle’s little sister whom we meet in the previous book, Just Neighbors. Sierra and Maliki bring their own kind of trouble and romance to the Blue Beech group.
In the beginning of the book we get a glimpse of the past, a quite humorous at times, look at Sierra sneaking into Maliki’s bar when she is underage. He always finds her, even given her best attempts at hiding, and kicks her out. That is until she reaches the legal drinking age and that is the moment their friendship actually begins. This is the moment the story really begins and where Sierra changes from a young girl into something more.
Maliki holds a special place in his….bar for Sierra. He’s never had a serious relationship or perhaps he might consider Sierra the only one he would try with, but given that his parents never really showed him what a relationship looked like, he doesn’t know. When Sierra eventually shows up engaged and then sends him an invitation to her wedding, he considers that spot in his….bar….permanently closed.
However, when Sierra’s marriage lasts all of three months, yeah it barely passed the honeymoon and ink drying on their license. She does the only thing she could think of…she runs to her best friend, Maliki. He offers up his spare room, allowing her to escape the sham of a marriage she’s found herself in.
This puts them in all kinds of new predicaments which really brings the story full steam ahead. Can Maliki and Sierra just be roommates or will they eventually fall to the chemistry that has been pulling them together for years? Only time will tell if it builds a future or rips their friendship apart.
If you love the Blue Beech stories, you will love this new addition.
