Review:
The perfect, take your breath away, friend-to-lovers romance. Lex Martin delivers steamy chemistry with whopping emotional punch. Whether you’ve read her books before or Breathless is a brand new read, you’ll love jumping into this world and catching up past characters or have no trouble reading it as a standalone. Logan and Joey will both melt your heart and your e-reader.
Joey/Josephine grew up with the Carter family. Her life wasn’t exactly picture perfect, so she was treated like the tag-a-long kid sister in their home. Even though Logan and Joey were best friends, the kind that were ride or die, their one phone call when in jail kind of friends, over time Joey’s feelings for Logan became anything but sisterly. When Joey leaves without telling him, not only does Logan panic about her whereabouts, but he finally realizes that she isn’t going to wait around forever and he needs to come clean about a lot of things going on in his life.
Logan is the perfect mix of sweet, alpha, and hardworking male. He obviously cares for Joey on every level and like most stubborn men, it takes awhile for his head to catch up to his heart. He cares deeply for his family which is super sweet, but also his greatest weakness.
Joey didn’t expect to return back home quite so soon, but when she’s asked to be a maid of honor for her friends wedding she really can’t say no. She isn’t really ready to face Logan, since leaving was the only way to save her heart to begin with, but returning also opens a different side to the man she left. Logan is still her friend, but there is also more. Could there be something more or is it just that she left and he missed her?
Joey is the perfect mix of naive, stubborn, and loyal. We live in an age with everything available to us at our fingertips, so while she might not have practical experience, she does have, I’ll say, “book knowledge” which is humorous, but also quite naughty. Her loyalty is also what causes her great heartbreak and is her achilles heel.
With the wedding activities and the two of them spending time together they are able to focus on what a future could potentially be like together, but it also is shrouded in lots of hazy doubt and unknowns. Can they finally be honest with each other and have a future together or will they move on and just be destined to be friends?
I love Lex’s writing and this is no exception!! Like I said above, whether this is your first time visiting her Texas Nights series or revisiting you will love this book.
Synopsis:
The boy next door has always made her breathless.
Joey… I wouldn’t say I ran away exactly—twenty-two is too old for that. I’d call it self-preservation.
I have one objective: protect my heart from the boy next door who has no clue I’ve loved him my whole life, even with a front row seat to his revolving bedroom door.
My escape plan almost worked. Except I left one thing behind.
Logan Carter hijacked my heart, and now it’s time to get it back. This time for good.
Logan…I wouldn’t say I’ve been lying this whole time—not about everything. Not about how much I miss my best friend, and definitely not about how pissed I am that she left with hardly a goodbye.
She’s the last person I ever expected to ghost me, and her absence left a gaping hole in my chest.
When Joey Grayson steps off that bus, I know I’ll do anything to keep her home, and that means finding out the truth. But I’m not sure how to tell her my truths when I’m living so many lies.
