Not Just Friends; Not in the City #3
(A standalone within a series)
by: T. Gephart
Not Just Friends is wonderfully sweet and super hot! The perfect addition to the series.
Jared Leighton and Presley Tibbs are certainly hot between the sheets. Two friends who have always kept their attraction to one another to themselves until one night their carefully crafted veils are removed. However, trying to stuff pandora’s sexy vibes that are now rolling off between the two of them back into the proverbial box is easier said than done, especially when Presley’s brother asks Jared to keep a close eye on her himself. It’s like he’s the devil throwing Eve right into his lap and Adam is already fully aware she’s beautifully naked and there is no need for a bite of the apple to confirm it.
While Presley keeps referring to Jared as a good guy, being a firefighter does have its hero perks, Jared is anything but when it comes to thoughts of Presley. Their friends staying friends status doesn’t last long, but how to tell Presley’s brother, Jared’s best friend, is a whole different matter. Plus there is also the problem of Presley’s crazy ex, which is why Presley needs a shadow in the first place…is it really safe to have anyone of either of their bad sides right now? Perhaps keeping things under wraps is best…but good things never last for long.
I love that their relationship happens so naturally and they are both very supportive of one another. While they were both always attracted to one another, this is really an awakening of those feelings
This third addition to the the Hot in the City series is fun, hot, and can be read as a complete standalone, but it does intertwine and weave in and out through past storylines if you have read past books. However, reading the past books first is not necessary to follow along if this is your first time reading this series.
A little harmless flirting never hurt anyone. Unless you cross the line and have a one-night stand with your best friend’s sister. And if that didn’t complicate things enough her crazy ex-boyfriend is stalking her as well. Should have stayed just friends, but it’s probably a little late for that now.
Presley, I screwed up, I’m sorry. You were vulnerable and I was supposed to be the good guy. Last thing I ever wanted to do was betray your trust, or worse, hurt you. I should never have even kissed you, let alone . . . yeah, well we both know how that ended. You’re my best friend’s sister for Christ’s sake, what was I even thinking? Clearly, I wasn’t. I’m so mad at myself, I want to break my own legs, save Tibbs the trouble. So yeah, I know this isn’t much of an apology, but I needed to make sure you’re okay. Let me know things are still cool between us or at least, what I can do to make it up to you. And it’s probably for the best if we keep this between just us. I swear on my mother, I’ll never touch you again.
Leighton, not sure who you thought you were with last night, but it wasn’t some vulnerable little girl who needs protecting. I assumed that was pretty clear when I took you to MY bed. Don’t pretend that last night wasn’t exactly what we both wanted. We’ve been flirting with each other for years, and I finally got tired of playing games. As for my brother, he doesn’t and will never have a say in who I invite into my life or body—not his business. But if you’re scared that’s your hang up not mine. So save your apology, and your good intentions, and don’t treat me like I’m a woman who didn’t know what she was doing. Oh, and tell your mother I said hi.
