I was turning page after page late into the night. This is a big book and unfortunately I had to put it down as the morning hours drew near, but I hated to stop! I loved reading the journey that not only Braxton was beginning with her life, but how each member of the band was adjusting to her stepping into their lives.
Braxton Fawn is a unique character. You’ll find that she is a great fit for each member of Bound and therein lies some of the underlying tension of this book. These three guys; Houston, Loren, and Jericho, are not exactly accepting of a new member of their band. They are barely talking to one another much less accepting a new band member or at the point of sharing a woman. They are riddled with issues and secrets, but I’ll leave that for you to discover, however, the big question is…could Braxton be the one that ties them all together or put the final nail in their friendship coffin?
Bound may have been started by three best friends, but it is barely being held together by the threads of the contract that they have to fulfill. When Braxton joins them for their current tour she is attracted to all three of them, they are rock gods afterall, but to have the attraction reciprocated was something she didn’t expect. Their pursuit of her attention becomes relentless and she isn’t sure if she is just the new toy they use to irritate one another or if their feelings are genuine. She does her best to keep them at arm’s length, but it becomes harder the more they dig under her skin and the more time they spend secluded on the tour bus.
Loren James, Bound’s bass player, has zero filter and the band member who is the most predictable to be unpredictable. He lets Braxton know right out of the gates that he wants her, but therein lies the problem. You don’t know if what is coming from his mouth is truth or complete BS. While he is the life of the party, he is also the one to instantly break your heart. I loved Loren’s boundless energy, zero filter and instant way he jumped into any situation, but there were times I also wanted to kick him in the balls. He is a diva, funny as he**, but watch your heart, Lo may just steal it.
Jericho Noble comes across as this quiet, sweet guy, but he’s a man who unleashes his intense anger and secrets upon his drums. That intensity transfers into the bedroom, so remember the saying…watch out for the quiet ones. When Braxton joins the mix he uses his quiet friendship to bring her quickly to his side, but Rich’s intensity may just have the power to slay her heart and yours.
Houston Morrow may be the leader and complete control freak of the group, but his brooding, ultra controlling self watches everything and Braxton doesn’t escape his scrutiny. Every group needs someone to take the heat, round up the herd of cats so to say, and thankfully this group has Houston. As much as my feelings wavered throughout the story regarding him, I think I grew to love and respect Houston the most.
What I loved about Lilac is that it focused on their ever evolving relationship. Their emotions and their struggle of how to navigate their changing foursome was ever present to what was going on around them. Sharing was new and they didn’t jump in with high expectations and hormones flying. They were very aware that they lived in the public eye and that there were lots of people involved. Yes, the story was hot, it was everything you’d want in a RH, but it was also realistic in dealing with the aftermath when the sheets cooled down and life set in.
