Review:
What an emotional ride! Ashton is going to roll into your heart and leave it a bloody, aching mess and blow away all your expectations.
After reading Faze, I was desperately aching for more of Ashton. I love a good bad boy and Ashton came riding into Rosewood darker than dark. He was hellbent to destroy Ruby and the small taste Tracy gave us left me salivating for how this bad boy was going to fall.
When Ashton is sent to live with his estranged father the first time he goes out of his way to make Ruby’s life a living nightmare, but when his feelings change for her and become too much he leaves and moves back to Seattle to live with his mother. This is where we pick up the story in Fury months later after Ashton has left.
Ashton has fallen back into old habits while back home in Seattle, which was the main reason his mother wanted him to live with his father. His old habits had him circling the drain of gang activity and those habits unfortunately lead to tragedy that change the course of Ashton’s life forever.
Ashton was angry and dark in Faze, but this time he spirals into a darker grief spiral that will really break your heart. His pain is deep and toxic, but at the same time so relatable you understand why Ruby is drawn to him and wants to ease his suffering. This doesn’t stop him from using her to make her feel like he does. He’s toxic, he knows it, and he wants to ruin her life the same way his has been ruined.
Ruby’s life circles around cheer and hopefully getting the national title this year. She doesn’t need an angry stepbrother stepping into her life messing with her head or her life when she’s so close to achieving her goal. However, whenever Ashton is near she can’t seem to stay away and whenever he seems to be sinking she can’t seem to help, even if it might hurt her in the long run.
The push and pull of these two is unlike any of other of Tracy’s characters. I felt Ashton’s pain so deeply, while at the same time I emphasized with Ruby’s need to immerse herself in his pain to help him through it. What could have seemed like reprehensible behaviour instead came across as relatable and both Ashton and Ruby gave us that sympathy through deeper emotions. These are truly two of Tracy’s best written characters.
I’m also very excited with a few directions that could come out of secondary characters for future stories.
Step back into Rosewood and buckle up for an emotional ride.
I highly recommend reading FAZE before reading FURY. It’s a short prequel to Ashton and Ruby’s story and highlights the beginning to their tumultuous relationship.
I shouldnโt be fazed by himโฆ
He turned up like a ghost in the night, determined to make me scream.
But he’s no ghost, he’s as real as the feelings I try not to have.
My illusive stepbrother, has everyone fooled. Except me.
One look into his dark eyes and I know.
He’s pure evil. Haunting my house… and my darkest dreams.
Pursuing me to prove a point and determined to make his stay as excruciating as possible.
I already know Iโm going to get burned but I canโt help myself, like a moth I’m drawn to his black flame.
One thing’s for sure, after this Halloween, Iโm never going to be the same again.
Dear Reader
Faze is a prequel to Rosewood High #6. It’s a dark high school bully romance and not intended for readers under 17.
Synopsis:
My step-sister was an outlet for my pain, but everything has changed.
Now, Iโve got nothing to lose.
Iโm infuriated by my feelings for her…
Theyโve held me captive all this time.
I might have been the one that walked away, but that doesnโt mean Iโm not still haunted by herโby what I did to her.
But thatโs the thing about ghostsโฆ they always return when you least expect it.
My stepsister was an outlet for my pain, but everything has changed.
Now Iโve got nothing to lose.
If she thought I hated her the first time we met, then sheโs about to get a shock.
The rage I felt didnโt compare to the fury that now consumes me.
I might be empty, but Iโm going to show her how it feels by taking away everything she has… one painful piece at a time.
FURY is the sixth book in my Rosewood High series. You can read the beginning of this couples story in their prequel FAZE.
