I had spent too long trying to dig myself out of the darkness, attempting to claw my way out of horror, and I had missed my chance at something more. My fault, I repeated to myself—all my fault.

“Kincaid?” the woman in front of me asked, her voice soft. “It’s good to finally meet you,” she said, although her voice was devoid of emotion. I didn’t know if she was lying or not.

I rolled my shoulders back. “I’m sorry for disturbing you so late. I just got into town. I’ll let you be. Sorry about this.” I turned to walk away, to let the pain ease ever so slightly even though I knew it never would, but a small hand grabbed my arm—the strength of the grip surprising me. I looked down at that diamond ring that had been put on her finger by the man I once loved. The man I still loved? I wasn’t sure.

“Come inside. Please.”

“I don’t think that would be a good idea,” I said.

Ronin didn’t say anything. And, somehow, that hurt worse than him yelling at me and throwing me out. But I would deserve it if he did. I deserved all of it.

“I’m Julia. Please, come inside. It’s late and getting a bit chilly. You don’t even have a coat on.”

“I’m fine,” I said.

“Please. You don’t want me to get mean.” Her eyes twinkled as I peered at her face.

This was the woman Ronin had married, and I liked her. She was firm, smiled, and looked like she would take no shit—the perfect partner for Ronin. She was so different from Alexis. I could already tell that, and maybe that was a good thing. She likely wouldn’t run away when things got tough.

Though I had no idea how I could tell that from a single touch, a momentary glance.

“Come on. Ronin and I were just cleaning up after dinner.”

That’s when I finally noticed the swollen lips—the tousled hair.

Oh, they had definitely been doing something after dinner, but it wasn’t cleaning up.

Jealousy slashed at me, but I pushed it away.

I deserved this, and so much more.

Finally, I looked at Ronin again, saw the longing mixed with anger in his gaze, and knew I couldn’t just leave. I would after, but I couldn’t hurt this woman, not when I knew if I walked away, I would only leave ashes in my wake for her to deal with. And neither of them deserved that.

However, when he comes across the most beautiful, intriguing woman he’s ever met he can’t shake her from his thoughts- clean or dirty. Did I forget to mention that said woman is Tessa…a woman he happens to know, but has never caught his eye until she displayed the woman beneath the police uniform. Men…so good at compartmentalization until a beautiful woman escapes that box he has placed her in.

Justin and Tessa each give the other as good as they get, teasing and taunting, so evenly matched in their personalities. From their very first date (which had me rolling with laughter…OMG…best first date scene I think I’ve ever read) Tessa and Justin not only have chemistry, but they push one another on every level possible, something they have both wanted, but never expected in a partner.

Between the Lines is by far my favorite book in this series!!!

Most women might have disliked that, but I adored it. I loved the glares he shot at male patrons in the restaurant, I loved how he moved his chair so that we were in each other’s private space. I loved the hand he clamped to my thigh, and the way he stuck close to my side as if I was precious to him.
I loved it all.
And I wanted more.
I felt like a flower who’d been left to grow in a shady part of the garden, and who’d just been repotted in a sunny spot. As if, at long last, I could grow massive blooms, blossom how nature intended.
The best part?
This was now.
When he barely knew me.
What would he be like when we’d been together a while?
I almost shivered at the thought.
Of course, he noticed.
“Are you cold?”
I shook my head, watching him watch me in the mirror lining the elevator.
“Then why the shiver?” A filthy smirk creased his lips as he turned to me. “Thinking dirty thoughts?”
“Maybe,” I whispered, peering up at him, aware that I was encouraging him and wanting nothing more.
Somehow, I’d triggered this caveman-like response in him and I wasn’t about to stop.
With that in mind, I let my coat fall open, revealing the deep V of my blouse and the skirt I’d rucked up slightly so that it was short enough to raise eyebrows, never mind dicks.
When his gaze dropped to my tits, I knew that I’d be wearing low necklines for the foreseeable future, if not forever. His nostrils flared at the sight, the bag the maître d’ handed him as we were leaving fell to the floor with a dull thunk, and he reached over, cupping one of them even as he was charging forward, tangling our legs together as he pushed me into the back wall.
His other hand dropped down to my thigh, and his fingers, callused and rough, snagged on the silk stockings I wore, before he found gold in the form of actual flesh.
“I didn’t realize you were wearing thigh-highs,” he rumbled, his eyes on my tits still.
His fingers worked the lacy top of the stockings as I told him, “I’m not.”
He froze, then his gaze drifted to mine. “You’re wearing garters?”
My smile was wicked. “You’ll have to find out, won’t you?”
A growl escaped him as he moved back so he could grab the hem of my skirt and drag it up to my hips. His nostrils flared again when he saw I wasn’t wearing panties, and when his gaze caught on the belt around my waist, that shaped my slim curves, and kept the silk fripperies from tumbling down, I felt the disturbance in the air—like a thunderstorm was rumbling overhead.
He was a constant surprise, so I should have expected him not to react how I thought he would, but when he dropped to his knees and urged my thighs apart, a shocked breath escaped me even as I complied with his wishes.
One hand went to my calf, and he encouraged me to prop my heel on his shoulder, which gave him more room as he went to work on me. His lips unerringly sought my clit, and I didn’t bother staring down at him, just watched him in the mirrors as he ate me out like he hadn’t just eaten.
Like he was starving.
And God, so was I.
In barely no time at all, I went from being as dry as a bone to slick with arousal.
I hadn’t a clue what it was about him, just knew that he could get me this hot with a glance.
My body was accustomed to being used for sex, but I’d never been an active part of the event. My mind skipped out on things as if it was self-preservation. I was used to being fucked, but fucking in return was a treat.

I’m completely Gobsmacked and want to assign 100 stars!! Laces is the BEST kind of psychopath I think I’ve ever read. Tempi’s writing is brilliant as the story unfolds and I can’t wait for more Hannibal Sketcher.

Hawthorne Asylum holds the underage criminally unstable. Kids that hopefully could be rehabilitated, but were too disturbed to even face juvie or jail. These children may seem like they are working towards rehabilitation so they can reenter society, but are they actually safer in HA living away from the evil that placed them there?

Laces, from the very beginning, had me snickering (I’m not sure if that also makes me unstable). He is unapologetically himself, knows his own faults and realizes that he will probably never be released from Hawthorne because of them. What we don’t know is if Laces is playing into the game because he is highly intelligent, extremely gifted, and is clearly the top dog when it comes to how things are done at Hawthorne. (How I ended up loving the weird psycho more and more as the book progressed).

Gambrielle arrives as the new girl at Hawthorne after a very public trial, clearly broken, and thrown to the wolves (I mean hierarchy of boys) who live at the asylum. It doesn’t take Gambrielle long to realize that she needs to play nice with Laces and his friends, but she doesn’t exactly trust them. Gambrielle’s whole focus is on earning enough points to earn a pass to go home. Not that she misses her family, but she needs time to clear her name and she will never achieve that locked away. Is she crazy…well she is locked in an asylum afterall. She has a lot of problems that we don’t know the full extent behind of why she has them, but she is an intriguing character as she unfolds more and more throughout the book.

Laces is absolutely brilliant! Hands down, intelligently written and pieced together in just the right way to keep the intrigue flowing that I didn’t realize the end was coming until I turned the last page. The bomb dropped on that last page….WHAT!!!!! Tempi, I loved it and didn’t expect it and need more, more, more of Gambrielle and Laces.

Carian Cole guts me everytime! But this book contained moments of joy and laughter that was mixed in with Carian’s deep emotional writing which made it a wonderful hit.

This was a story of broken souls that recognized and reached out to another broken soul. Jude and Skyler recognized something in one another regardless of age, demographic, or hardship. Their story is slow burning, but one that grows from friendship, helping one another and eventually a deep love connection.

I think what tugged at my emotions (or really made me angry) the most was when people jumped into to give their two cents on Jude and Skyler’s relationship. It always did more harm than good in each instance, given way to societal norms or their own views vs. listening to Jude or Skyler first. How often has someone tried to do this to your own relationship without having inside knowledge, and yet, once the doubts are placed the cracks begin to form and you begin to question everything. It’s crazy how often people let outside forces affect their inside decisions.

I digress…Jude is a man followed by demons of his past and when he first meets Skyler he feels by helping her he will right some of his past wrongs. Sure Skyler is an attractive girl, but that isn’t quite in his conscious thoughts, he sees her more of – what happened to when his sister disappeared and what if someone like him had been kind and hopefully helped her kind of scenario. Once he does convince Skyler to take his help, their relationship does develop into friends first and then something more later.

In the beginning, Skyler also didn’t see Jude as anything but a safe harbor. She was in a horrible situation, but he offered a clean, safe place to stay. While she hated handouts, she also knew she’d most likely perish living where she currently did. His offer of friendship evolved as they spent more time together and she never guessed that her feelings for him would grow into something more.

Over time they mend each other by supporting what’s missing in their lives and filling in the cracks of their hearts. While they both profess they aren’t relationship people, they both unconsciously crave one another when the other is absent.

Skyler’s sharp wit mixed with Jude’s dark humor is the perfect blend to levitate the emotional moments making Jude and Skyler’s story another wonderful hit.

I also have to say I’ve personally known several people with Skyler’s problems, either singularly or mixed together, so this book hit me on a personal level. The weight of carrying any demons from a scarred childhood don’t leave very easily and the fact that Jude is patient and so tender with Skyler while he carries his own demons on his back made this story very touching.

Synopsis:

But more accurately, I was a girl with a lot of bad luck, and he was a guy with a lot of muscles and tattoos.

Jude “Lucky” Lucketti wasn’t just a sexy, brooding construction worker. He was my own personal hero who seemed to be in all the right places at the right times. Like when my car broke down and I needed a ride home, and when I face planted on the sidewalk right in front of him and had to be taken to the emergency room.

Those weren’t exactly my best moments, but they were his.

We became friends, and it didn’t matter that he was sixteen years older than me. We had a lot in common—like our love of old rock music and vintage fast cars, and our aversion to relationships.

When he approached me with a crazy idea to help me out, I couldn’t say no.

The arrangement was supposed to be temporary. A marriage on paper and nothing else.

It should’ve been easy, but it wasn’t.

Because here I am, eighteen years-old, still in high school, and married to a man I was never supposed to fall in love with.

Lily gaped at him. “My God, you are unbelievable. How do you think your wife-to-be is going to feel about me and Danny, huh?”
“Why don’t you ask her yourself?”
“What? Are you insane?”
Nico grabbed her by the arm and propelled her toward the opposite wall, her puny resistance not slowing him in the least. He approached a door, and for one crazy minute she thought it was a bedroom and there was a woman inside. He would throw open the door and there she would be, the Princess Antonella Romanelli of Monteverde, a black-haired grey-eyed beauty, sprawled across silk sheets and pouting prettily because her lover was taking too long to get the baby mama under control.
Abruptly, they slammed to a halt, Nico pivoting behind her, the full length of his body pressing into her. She tried to jerk away, but he gripped her chin, more gently than she expected, and forced her head to face forward into the mirror.
Lily gasped. “Is this a joke?”
She stared at her reflection—their reflection. The darkness of his fingers against her skin, her hair wild and tumbling around her shoulders in a silky mess. Her pink cotton shirt was stained over her left shoulder, and her eyes, though tired, gleamed with fury. Nico, in contrast, was cool and unruffled. If not for his quickened heartbeat against her, she’d almost think him bored.
But no, there it was, that flash of something in his eyes, in the set of his jaw, that spoke volumes without a sound being uttered.
“No joke, Liliana. I have broken a long sought after treaty between my country and Monteverde, not to mention embarrassed my father and our allies, so that I can do what should have been done the instant you conceived my child.”
“I-I don’t understand,” she whispered, searching his face in the mirror, her heart slamming into her ribs.
“Of course you do,” he replied, dipping his head until his lips almost grazed the shell of her ear. Almost, but not quite.
“You, Miss Lily Morgan, are about to become the Crown Princess, my consort, and the mother of my children.”
