Loved, loved, loved this new book in the Zodiac themed series. It was full of melty moments and good hearted fun that this writing duo has perfected.

Stacey and Wes jump off the page with their chemistry from the very beginning. Their history of growing up together, even though Wes was her brother’s best friend, you could tell that Stacey and Wes shared a history together, one where their teasing and name calling tangled them into a relationship that could be messy, but also would be passionate once they gave into their desires.

While Wes and Stacey were wicked with their back and forth banter, they were even more so with their steamy passion. While Wes struggles between wanting Stacey and keeping his lifelong friendship with Chad in tact, their passion brews and bubbles, but kept in secret as neither want to upset the balance in the relationship with Stacey’s brother.

Each book in this series is completely unique. The only similar features are keeping to the astronomical theme, which sets up what traits the hero will have and what has become my favorite part the chapter where the book is told from his POV. As the entire book is mainly told from the heroines POV, there is always a tipping point where we receive insight from the hero and in Rebel Roommate, Wes completely broke my heart. He feels he’s broken beyond repair and in his musings I wanted to wrap that man up in a giant hug.

Jeannine and Lauren have perfected their craft as a writing duo and Rebel Roommate is not only steamy, but packed full of emotions, and excellent banter. It was a true pleasure to read.

 

Synopsis:

“My toes are freezing.” She wiggled them against the hard, dark concrete.

I glanced down at her bare feet. If I offered to carry her inside, she’d probably punch me in the balls, so I bit the inside of my cheek, watching for glass or splintered wood on the porch steps.

Inside, I got her straight to my room and handed her a t-shirt and some boxers before I sent her to shower.

Her quietness told me just how much she needed to get under the covers—for once she didn’t have a quip or a biting comment.

The stench of smoke hung heavy in my room, more noticeable now that we were away from the fire. I sniffed my shirt and jerked away from the burning smell. The last thing I wanted was for her to walk in here and be hit with the stink of char.

I took off my smoke-soaked clothes and grabbed my towel off the back of the door, wrapping it around my waist. I dumped the clothes outside my door and grabbed fresh ones.

The water in the bathroom shut off and the door opened, the hot, humid air billowing into the hallway.

She stumbled back in and spotted me, freezing mid-hair-drying.

Dammit, maybe I should’ve waited to take my clothes off until I’d gotten to the bathroom, but it wasn’t like she hadn’t seen me in just swim trunks before. At least I’d gotten the towel on and she hadn’t walked in on me totally naked like she had last summer after our water balloon battle.

“My clothes smelled like smoke too. I’m hopping in the shower.”

Seeing her in my clothes did something to me—something that couldn’t be contained by a towel. I clutched my sweats and t-shirt in front of my now-straining erection. My blood pounded in my veins and I didn’t know how I was supposed to spend the night lying beside her. Maybe I should take the couch. I rushed out the doorway, poking my head back in.

“Get into the bed. I’ll be back in a few.” I flicked off the light, blanketing the room in darkness aside from the glow from the hallway.

The shower was quick and efficient and I kept myself from relieving the pressure that had built up when I saw her in my clothes. I cranked it to cold until my cock deflated and I could end my freezing torture.

Climbing out, I picked up her clothes from the floor and dropped them outside my bedroom door. I’d wash them in the morning and see if a gallon of detergent got the smell out.

If it didn’t, I wasn’t opposed to her wearing more of my clothes until we got her some new ones or she got to go back to her place to see what could be salvaged.

There was no sound in my room. For a second, I thought she might’ve gone downstairs to get something to eat, but then I heard her soft, gentle breaths coming from my bed.

I hung my towel up and crossed the room.

Marisa was spread out like a starfish, taking up most of the bed.

Chuckling, I took her arm and put my hand on her waist, rolling her toward the wall. She grumbled, but let me move her, shifting her pillow and clutching it to her chest.

If I weren’t a glutton for punishment, I’d have taken a pillow and blanket and gone downstairs to the couch of torture, or I’d have nudged her even further toward the wall and put my back against hers. But I couldn’t help myself.

Sliding into the bed, I curled my body around hers, wrapping my arm around her. Just for tonight. Just because of how close I’d come to losing her. Just because I couldn’t help myself.

Her hair smelled like me. As much as I loved that, I’d have to pick up some of her shampoo and soap when I got a chance.

“Night, Marisa.” Closing my eyes, I breathed deeply, matching my breaths to hers.

Tonight, I’d hold her in my arms.

Tomorrow, I’d figure out how to deal with being in love with the coach’s daughter.

One day. I would like to go one single day without someone in my orbit making a poor life decision.
“Stop squirming,” I order my four-year-old son, who should be at preschool, but who’s been banished for the week because of lice.
Yep.
Lice.
Heaven forbid we have one issue at a time.
Adding to my list of issues? Being that mom who can’t get her shit together while Levi Flipping Wilson is watching. And not only watching, but actively engaging in trying to help. “Hey, bud, I bet I can hold still longer than you can. Wanna see?”
I know my agenda on any given day will include interruption for something my children do that I never would’ve expected in a million years, but that’s a lot easier to deal with when I don’t have an audience.
Especially an audience made up of one famous man whose songs get me through the day—and night—when I don’t have enough free focus to read or listen to an audiobook, and who keeps stealing glances at me like he’s trying to figure out what kind of rabid creature I am. I squeeze my eyes shut and count to two, because I know if I get as high as three, he’ll find a way to suck the marbles deeper into his sinus cavities, and I don’t know how a doctor will get that out without having to cut his nose open, and oh my god, he’s four and he’s about to be disfigured for life because I thought he’d actually sit still and listen to Yasmin reading books for neighborhood storytime while I re-stocked a few shelves.
“How many stars?” I inquire through clenched teeth.
“Four. Or maybe seven. Or maybe one. I forgets.”
“You are so lucky you’re cute.”
“Do you have a vacuum?” Levi asks.
I twist my head to gape at him.
He shoots a help? look at his date, then shrugs at me. “If he won’t blow it out, maybe you can suck it out. Like with one of those sucky tools the dentist uses.”
“That’s…possibly not a terrible idea.”
“Happens on occasion.” He grins, which makes my heart basically stop because he’s stupidly gorgeous.
I could stare at him all day, but I have a preschooler with marbles up his nose to attend to.
“Mama,” Hudson says, “look.”
He scrunches his nose, which makes his nostrils swell, closes his mouth, and blows, and one shoots out and lands on Levi’s shoe.
My son has just snotted my favorite musician’s Italian leather loafers.
“I win! I holded still!” He breaks into his preschool dance routine, but the poor kid got his moves from me, which means to a casual observer, he probably looks like he’s having a seizure while choking on a piece of gum and tripping over barbed wire.
Levi Wilson, however, is not fazed. He squats down to Hudson’s level. “Rematch.”

I need more chocolate and wine and then absolutely more chocolate and then perhaps one more glass of wine…the ending so bittersweet and I’m happy and sad and all of the emotions because not only is this the end of the Fluke gang, but Oliver and Piper were the absolute BEST!!

Ollie is the heart of the group, the big thinker, the man behind Warriors of Easton. Sure Dax brings Ollie’s ideas to life, Aiden knows how to market those ideas, Cam makes sure to trademark them so they stay his ideas and Grant handles all of the icky business that makes Ollie itch just thinking about it. The men of Fluke Inc. are a well oiled machine, but honestly since his best friends all have found other interests and the loves of their lives Ollie has been searching for his next big idea and Piper, his assistant, isn’t happy about it. She would prefer that he not only use his big heart to fall in love with her, but also use his big brain on the right big idea.

Piper has been in love with Ollie for the past two years, but she is at her wit’s end. She knows that Ollie gets lost in his head with all of his big ideas, but she’d like for just once to have his head thinking about her. When she reaches her breaking point with unicorn snot (not literal snot, but soda) so she quits as his assistant. It may not be what she wants, since she actually is in love with him, but it’s what she needs for her own sanity because love never said it was agreed to be sane with her.

Finally having time to herself, it allows Piper to focus on her own big idea, but low and behold, Ollie follows her out into the woods and agrees to spend two weeks with her, actually getting to know Piper outside of the office. He’s hoping to win her back, love free, as his assistant, but perhaps he’s forgetting just how persistent Piper can be. I also think he’s forgetting just how adorable and loveable he truly is because as much as he tries to tell her all of his faults, (hello! Piper already knows him pretty well), he forgets that he’s the heart and not loving him is basically impossible.

Gimme S’more is so much more than two people who have been working together falling in love. Ollie is a big pile of mushy, gushy unorganized sweetness. He reminds me so much of one of my daughters, full of creativity, and a huge smile, but couldn’t remember where she set her happy meal two seconds ago or her homework within her own backpack. I have loved each of men in this series, but Ollie will certainly hold a special place in my heart.

Piper is the perfect person to fill the cracks in Ollie’s life and vice versa. They are the yin and yang to each other in every perfect way. This story is full of friendship and emotion, finding the strength within yourself and leaning on those who believe in you. It’s a beautiful story, I truly loved it and hated for it to end.

I fell in love with Appleby and each of the men that came to the small town and I’m not going to lie, I’m going to miss it, but perhaps Erin will give us glimpses into the Iowa life with some of the townspeople who live there…please.
