Straight Up; Twisted Fox #3
(An interconnected standalone within a series)
Publication Date: February 2, 2021
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Author: Charity Ferrell
Review/Synopsis:
Straight Up proves why I fell in love with Charity Ferrell. It is so well written with all of the sprinklings to a perfect recipe that makes an absolutely delicious story!
Pulled in from the very first page, I was smitten with both Lincoln and Cassidy through the entire story. They were delightful in their back and forth banter, their honesty with one another and their redemptive background stories.
Both Lincoln and Cassidy have tender underbellies given their sullied histories, but the fact that they both have a black mark on their background actually makes them more understanding than most people in their given situations.
Lincoln has been to prison, white collar prison, but prison nonetheless, technically for crimes he didn’t commit, but he did help his father in not reporting the crimes he was committing. So while Lincoln wasn’t actually the one committing the crime, he was loyal to the very end when he was arrested for actually aiding and abetting. One thing you will find out about Lincoln is he is loyal, basically to a fault. That is rare and I loved that about him.
Cassidy trusted the wrong person because she too has a very open heart, sparkling personality, and loyal to everyone. That landed her in jail which changed the trajectory of her future, but it did land her at Twisted Fox and in front of the man who stole her heart, Lincoln.
I love both Lincoln and Cassidy equally and was giggling throughout the entire book. They both use sarcasm and laughter as a defense mechanism to evade hard questions which means they come across as easy-go-lucky. Their personalities aren’t the only thing they have in common as they lower their guards and really get to know one another. Their backgrounds, their original aspirations to be more, and so and so forth. The more layers they peel back and discover the more there is to like.
Like all Ferrell books, there comes a point where angst comes rolling in and the trouble that has been brewing might be something that neither of them can afford, especially with their pasts. I love that Charity brings real world problems into her books while still making me feel safe and cozy in her fiction world. So far, Straight Up is my favorite book in this series so many reasons.

The Twisted Fox series is interconnected to the Blue Beech series. While it is not necessary to read this series to fully enjoy the Twisted Fox series, you might enjoy it more while characters from Blue Beech pop in and say hello.
