Layers and layers that create tears and emotions and feelings…it’s what Emery Rose is the best at and as much as you want to despise her for it, I keep coming back for more. I totally love the angst and heartache and just overall happiness that I end up with by the end.

Brody is a character that has always felt broken. Never measuring up, never feeling wanted, and certainly never coming first in anyone’s life. He connects better with his horses than he does with people so it’s no wonder when Shiloh comes to stay on his farm he doesn’t see much beyond her initial stay. Brody is far from an optimist, especially when it comes to relationships, but something about Shiloh and the brokenness he sees inside her calls to him like no one has before.

Shiloh may be a rockstar, but living in the spotlight isn’t exactly conducive to making genuine friends. It doesn’t help that the few people who actually know the real her have actually taken advantage of her, breaking down her spirit over and over again. She needs to get away before she starts her long tour and Brody’s ranch is just the place to do it. She never expected to fall for the grumpy cowboy, but when it comes time to leave her rockstar life is even harder to return to than she expected.

These two people live on opposite sides of the same coin. Both have been broken down by people they loved, but they are now two people who live very different lives, one in the spotlight and another who lives in the wide open country. While they have been brought together by chance could they find a middle ground and make it work?

Over and over my heart broke for Brody. While I read the first book and know Jude and Lila’s story and where Brody’s friendship came out with them, my heart aches even more knowing where his feelings were during that whole timeline. Brody constantly feels he’s never good enough, no matter what he’s doing, or where he is, or who he’s with. The rare exception is being with his son or with Shiloh, which is a first considering who she is to the world, but with him she’s just her.  So jumping into something more with a woman who could hurt him is risky and Brody is …ugh…gonna break you.

While Shiloh has her ups and downs in life as well, it’s Brody who truly captured my heart and broke it with Emery’s depthful writing. She has this way of bringing out feelings of being totally drained and filled up all at once. When the Storm Breaks feels representative of those emotions inside me, along with everything representative in the book, so have a few tissues handy.

We left Finley and Carrick upon the discovery of some horrific news at the end of the first book. I was really excited to jump into the second chapter of this brand new world, but honestly the first half of the book was a little slow. However, I didn’t give up because I love the entire premise of this entire series and the second half is where all of the action really lied where it ends on another cliffy and lots of tension.

While the first half of this book was a bit drawn out, the second half made it worth reading.

Here’s why:

✔A new world is introduced and we get to visit it!
✔New characters that really spark the storyline!
✔Carrick and Finley’s chemistry is completely reignited and lit!
✔The plotline moves quickly until I’m left wanting more!

Left hanging now with book 3 looming in the wings, I’m salivating for more information after learning a ton in the second half of this book. What felt like dragging feet in the beginning, with a rehashing and zero spark between Carrick and Finley, I wondered where we were going for five books if this was going to involve any relationship at all, finally-once I hit the juicy bits and reached the end, I’m hungry all over again and ready to jump into the next book.

While I feel that Sawyer could have chopped this entire series down without making a five book series, I also don’t like telling authors how to do their jobs, especially since we are nowhere close to the end of this journey yet, so I’ll try my best to be patient while I wait for all of the information to come and piece it out while it unfolds.

Finley still has a long way to go in discovering who she really is, she’s just discovering her powers and to what extent those powers can really do. She’s also just beginning to trust the circle of people around her and what it means to open that trust. It could help or hurt those that she lets in, and that is what makes this book exciting as each new person comes closer, their life it truly in danger.

I’m looking forward to where the journey heads in the next book, a true breaking point for all players involved, or a fork in the road where difficult choices have to be made. My mind is awhirl with options and where this journey will head, but no matter what, that the ball is rolling and I hope Sawyer keeps the momentum going.

The more secrets we uncover, one thing is certain— if we have any chance of saving the world, we have to do it together.

A Discovery of Secrets and Fate is book two of the Chronicles of the Stone Veil series and is best enjoyed if read in series order.

Funny, funny, I am dead on the floor from laughing. This story warmed my heart, tickled my funny bone and was just really, really good! I so needed this book in my life.

Wyatt and Whitney are drop dead funny together. Their chemistry is off the charts, but even more than their dead on smexiness, their time spent together is just more than that.Whitney is a single mom to the brightest, sassiest six year old little girl who already sees herself working in the family business. Wyatt is instantly smitten with Whitney’s little girl along, which is a huge step towards earning affection with Whitney herself. It doesn’t take Wyatt long to know that he wants to be a part of their amazing family until death he does part and his pursuit is adorably relentless.

Priscilla, also known as Miss Priss, is so cute, and reminded me of my own daughter so much; not the doom and gloom so much, but certainly the no filter, and way too smart for her own good. I too loved every bit of her tenacity which made me adore Wyatt even more for seeing all the awesome that was contained in that little girl and the admire the mother that raised her.

All of the jokes and love was off the charts amazing, I highlighted so many sections of this book it’s hard to tell where I stopped and began again, but everything brought me tons of joy.

I desperately needed this story in my life and could have stayed reading it forever!

Before I know it, we’re trading favors for dates, and as much I don’t want to admit it, the feelings for him I thought were dead and buried are taking root and growing into something that looks a lot like love.

The sensation divided his focus, part of it staying on the rope in his hands, a fraction diverting to her proximity, another locked on his reacting body. She shifted positions slightly, seemed to hesitate, then she placed her hand on his back. Forget divided. All his attention zeroed in on that one spot. Isla. Hand. Hot. So much heat concentrating where she touched. He leaned back a bit, couldn’t control his body’s urge to ask for more. More contact, more Isla. Meet Marie James

Let’s see…where to begin…

 

I’m inching up on the BIG 4-0. The gray hairs are doubling what seems like daily, and the wrinkles and laugh lines are more pronounced than ever.

I have an amazing husband (Married just over 15 years.)

We have two boys we’re doing our best to raise as respectful gentleman.

I have a master’s degree in criminal justice which I used to work as a juvenile probation office until deciding to write full-time in June of 2019. So that means there’s usually always some criminal/law element to my novels.

If I’m not writing; I’m reading.

My favorite genres recently are bully/reverse harem and enemies to lovers. Maybe I’m reliving my traumatic teen years through the girls who actually end up with the boys. (Not that I would change my history since it’s gotten me exactly where I need to be!)

I love coffee. I miss carbs. Music is LIFE. I try not to be too serious.

Meet Marie James

Let’s see…where to begin…

 

I’m inching up on the BIG 4-0. The gray hairs are doubling what seems like daily, and the wrinkles and laugh lines are more pronounced than ever.

I have an amazing husband (Married just over 15 years.)

We have two boys we’re doing our best to raise as respectful gentleman.

I have a master’s degree in criminal justice which I used to work as a juvenile probation office until deciding to write full-time in June of 2019. So that means there’s usually always some criminal/law element to my novels.

If I’m not writing; I’m reading.

My favorite genres recently are bully/reverse harem and enemies to lovers. Maybe I’m reliving my traumatic teen years through the girls who actually end up with the boys. (Not that I would change my history since it’s gotten me exactly where I need to be!)

I love coffee. I miss carbs. Music is LIFE. I try not to be too serious.
