Review – Twist of Fate by Tia Louise

Twist of Fate
(An interconnected standalone)

Publication Date: February 22, 2021

Genre/Tropes: Second Chance/Friends To Lovers/Contemporary Romance

Author: Tia Louise

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

I fell for Scout in his brother’s book, I cannot tell a lie. I was really looking forward to learning more about Scout and the woman who would bring this easy, laid back, funny man to his knees. Tia gives us the perfect glance into the man Scout is, how he became the man he is, and the after affects of that infamous car ride with his brother in Twist of Fate. Every bit of this book is perfect!

There were certain bits and pieces that we knew about Scout from reading This Much is True, but for new readers you can read Twist of Fate as a complete standalone if needed. However, I loved learning more about the horrible pitfalls that Scout fell into and I especially loved learning about the one woman that held his attention, that woman that got away, Daisy.

Before Scout ever left for Hollywood to make a career on the big screen, he lived a small life in South Carolina. He also fell pretty hard for a girl named Daisy, once when he was in high school, but she turned him down. Then after college right before he was getting ready to leave for the west coast they had an amazing week together, but that’s all it could be. Little did he know he left her with a part of himself and wouldn’t get a chance to see her again for several years, but when he came back a few years later nothing was going to stop him…at least he hoped. He just never imagined what was waiting to greet him and change his life forever.

Their relationship is intense and steamy, but more than that my heart broke for both Scout and Daisy. It’s a relationship that is affected by circumstance and outside factors and has very little to do with the true caring they have for one another. I love how Tia crafted their story and developed their love.

Twist of Fate is an absolutely perfect interconnected book to This Much is True, straddling both sides of JR’s story while giving us a complete standalone and fresh look at Scout’s life. It’s a perfect look at what is important in life at the end of the day.

A friends-to-lovers, second-chance, stand-alone romance by USA Today bestselling author Tia Louise.

To be “just friends” with a guy, you’ve got to follow The Rules:
Don’t touch him unnecessarily.
Don’t share your intimate dreams with him (even if he asks).
Don’t kiss him, and definitely don’t sleep with him.

Scout Dunne and I have been “just friends” since childhood.
He’s everything you could want—sexy, charming, confident—every girl’s wet dream.
Until we broke The Rules.

We broke them in the ocean, in my aunt’s bathroom, in my bed…
It was the hottest week of my life.
I’m one of the few people who knows the first-round NFL draft pick wants more than a life of sports.
Because we’re friends, right?
Not anymore.

Now he’s gone, and I’m trying to get my career back on track.
Mamma said a guy would never put your dreams ahead of his.
But the twist of fate?
It’s something you never see coming.

(TWIST OF FATE is a STAND-ALONE friends-to-lovers, accidental pregnancy romance. No cheating. No cliffhanger.)

Cowboy Bites give us everything from appetisers to main courses to fun desserts and tasty liquor treats. This entire book is fun and utterly delicious and I adored catching up with all of my favorite McKay’s while they experienced daily living.

My favorite moments reminding me so much of times raising my own children or when my husband admitted his own defeat in times he may have messed up. I was laughing right along with each of those precious memories.

As for the recipes enclosed, I always sway towards anything sweet so my favorite recipes were; Sierra’s Brownies—yum!! and The Slutty Mermaid as the yummiest beverage—delicious!!

Four Weddings and a Swamp Boat Tour; Boys of the Bayou #6
(A standalone within a series)

Publication Date: February 23, 2021

Genre/Tropes: Romantic Comedy

Author: Erin Nicholas

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

We are back in the Bayou and Paige and Mitch are on fire!!

We are back in Louisiana with the Landry family, in the deep south where Paige and Mitch’s chemistry jumps off the pages and big, loud families are a way of life.

Through Paige Asher, a girl from Appleby, IA, we get to fall in love with the boys of the bayou, really the entire Landry all over again. Even though Paige came down to spend time with Mitch, what she ends up doing is helping each Landry couple prepare for their upcoming wedding. She only expects to spend a short time visiting, but with each passing day falls a little more in love with everyone, including the man she originally came to visit, but she can’t stay…can she?

As much as Mitch would like to be upset that Paige is spending more time with his family than she is with him, yes-the girl who is a huge commitmentphobe-he really isn’t. He loves that she is drawn to his family and wants to help, but what does that hold for him when it comes time for her to leave? Huge potential for one broken heart, but he’s discovering he’s unable to stop it because Paige has already carved out a place in the Bayou family and in his heart.

This book is a beautiful bridge between Erin’s past series and her upcoming ones, while still keeping this as a complete standalone for any new readers. It’s very well crafted and a beautifully done story where you get a glimpse of so much without it being overwhelming.

She’s been proposed to five times.
She even said yes to one of them.
And then broke his heart when she called it off. Not to mention her mother’s heart. And her grandmother’s. And his mother’s. And…you get the picture.

Paige Asher has now officially sworn off all dating. Diamonds give her hives.

All she wants is to be a yoga-doing, cat-collecting, vegetarian in peace. Away from her marriage-crazy family and all their expectations.

So when her weekend fling turns into a real friend and offers her a place to escape, she finds herself on his doorstep in Louisiana. And right in the middle of not just one family wedding, but three. Of course.

Charming, sexy bayou boy Mitch Landry gets stuff done. Whatever anyone needs. From alligator-sitting to getting a buddy drunk to showing a woman a good time to fixing a swamp boat, he’s the man. No problem. No drama.

But he wants a hell of a lot more from Paige than a temporary friends-with-benefits arrangement. He wants to take care of her. And her five cats. He also really wants other men to stop asking her to marry them.

But if a roommate and a few orgasms are all she wants, that’s what he’ll deliver.

He can just be her friend and not commit the greatest sin of all…asking her for forever.

*Paige and Mitch’s story starts in the prequel, Oh, Fudge, part of the Hot Cakes series!

Review – The Devil’s Vengeance by Bella J

56029358. sy475

Devil’s Vengeance; #2
(#2 in a duet)

Publication Date: February 22, 2021

Genre/Tropes: Dark/Mafia Romance

Author: Bella J.

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

While amid darkness beauty can be found. Bella J intertwines a story filled with some of the darkest moments a person can go through with beautiful moments in the light.

Gian and Daniela may not have come together through traditional means and their love may not have grown before their marriage, but it doesn’t make it any less special or intense now that they have that bond.

When Daniela is kidnapped Gian promises never to give up until she is found, what he finds is something worse than he ever possibly imagined, but his love for his wife never wanes, no matter what.

This is the second half of a dark duet and there is no holding back on potential triggers that could be tripped. The story begins with Daniela’s captivity and keep in mind that this is a dark story. However, where there is darkness there is always light, and the beautiful moments in this tale are truly a high point.

This is a duet and should not be read out of order.

I knew I’d never have the luxury of choosing my own wife. An arranged marriage was a sacrifice men in my position had to make for their families. It wasn’t something I looked forward to, but it had to be done.

I just never imagined my father would choose her to be my bride. Daniela Moretti, the daughter of my enemy…and I intended to treat her as such.

But since the day she set foot in my house as my wife, my loathing of her turned into something deadlier than hate. Her strength intrigued me. Her fight seduced me. And I started seeing more in her than just dirty, filthy Moretti blood.

Now…she’s gone. Kidnapped. Vanished without a trace.

But the devil always finds what’s his, and when I do, my thirst for vengeance will be sated by blood.

Review – Fletcher by V. McFarlane

56017196. sy475

Fletcher; Boys of HGU #1
(A standalone within a series)

Publication Date: February 20, 2021

Genre/Tropes: New Adult/Sports Romance

Author: V. McFarlane

Review Rating: 4 Gold Stars

V. McFarlane is a new author to me and Fletcher is an emotional college romance filled with steam, tension, and  drama.

How do you move on with the woman you’ve always loved when that woman you want last dated your deceased brother? That tangled web is an emotional roller coaster that is the basis of Fletcher.

Peyton and Fletcher were best friends when they were younger, but when Peyton began dating Fletcher’s younger brother things changed and especially when he passed away. Their relationship was severed. Three years passed until they spoke again, but the guilt is still there. How will their friends perceive them, how could their parents understand, there is a lot of guilt that surrounds the feelings they have for each other, which outweighs any happiness, but don’t they both deserve happiness?

While I enjoyed a lot of the story, there were moments that could have used a bit more depth and polish, while others did shine through. McFarlane is a fairly new author and I believe with more time she will really excel.

Just one night…

I should have known that just one night would never have been enough.
Not when Peyton Mckenna has been the only girl I’ve ever dreamed of.
We were friends once, best friends but to me she was always the girl I couldn’t have. It didn’t stop me wanting though.
But then everything changed, our worlds exploded and I pushed her away, too caught up in my grief and confusion of still wanting the girl that belonged to someone else.
For three years I avoided her as if everything that happened that night was her fault, but the truth was, the guilt of seeing her, still wanting her was tearing me apart but I was becoming weak.

Weak enough to let her back in.
Weak enough to hold her.
Weak enough to take that taste I’d always denied myself.

It was a betrayal.
But never a mistake.
And now I want more.

Our paths were too tangled, our lives forever on a collision course.
This was my destruction and we had always been destined to fail.

Fletcher is book one in the Boys of HGU series but can be read as a standalone.

And Beck Clermont controlled them all.

He was arrogant and conceited, and from the moment I met him, he had made up his mind about me.

Dangerously handsome and wickedly cruel, he had no intention of letting me spend my senior year under the radar.

The secrets of old money ran deep, and even though I barely knew them, the sins of my family had put a target on my back.

He was a hurricane, and I was unprepared for the storm.

His touch fatal. His impact irreparable.

There was no negotiation.

He stole my heart. Without warning, without permission.

Moo U Hockey:

What if Romeo wore hockey skates, and Juliet was raised on a farm next door?

As a life-long Vermonter, there are three beliefs I’ve always held true:

  1. Our family farm is everything
    2. Hockey is a close second
    3. The Todds next door are our sworn enemies

But this season will test everything I stand for.

I have an illicit side job that could cost me my hockey scholarship. And now Maggie Todd knows my secret. She’s waiting for the right moment to use it against me. But every time I face off against her, I learn things I shouldn’t want to know. Like how deeply her competitive streak runs, and how sexy that is. And how easy it is to make her blush… everywhere.

An Adler and a Todd cannot be lovers. Breaking that rule is like pulling a pin on a grenade–everything in my life could blow up. Can we surrender to these feelings… or will our families’ feud make us its next casualty?

Moo U Hockey:

I’m banished to Vermont for a scandal that wasn’t my fault, and broke because my famous father cut me off. And did I mention my roommate stole my boyfriend? Yeah, I’m loving my Moo U experience.

Now I need a job, because this gel manicure won’t upkeep itself. The only available option is the last one I’d ever want–a job as the hockey team’s equipment manager. My plan is to do the bare minimum, get paid, and find my way back into my father’s good graces.

I will not get involved with a hockey player, no matter how hot. They’re cocky. And obnoxious. I know their type, and I’m not willing to risk getting hurt again. Until Lex Vonne glides into my life looking like sin on a stick.

He thinks I’m a spoiled brat.
I think he’s using me to get ahead.
But the fire I feel when we’re together is like a slapshot to my heart

Moo U Hockey:

Jonah Daniels has enough work preparing for his hockey season without spending time interviewing a roommate to help share expenses. So when some dude answers J.D.’s ad and agrees to his terms, he puts a key under the mat and leaves for practice.

What he doesn’t expect is that his new roommate is not a dude at all, but an overtalkative, energetic hottie. What’s worse? She’s the younger sister of his friend on the team, and she’s sworn him to secrecy.

Ryann Reiner needs a place to live, stat. After an incident at the dorms that almost tanked her scholarship, Ryann wants a boring roommate who’ll leave her alone. J.D. almost fits the bill. He lives and breathes hockey, just like her brother, and he wouldn’t know a joke unless it hip-checked him against the boards.

He’s also gorgeous. And broody. And he looks fine on laundry day, in too little clothing. Soon, late-night study sessions turn into dangerous flirting. And then a kiss turns into more. But they’re determined to keep things in the feelings-free zone.

Until lines blur and tensions rise when Ryann’s brother learns the truth. And both their hearts are skating on thin ice…
