Review – Pretty Boy D by Rachel Jonas and Nikki Thorne

Pretty Boy D; Kings of Cypress Prep #4
(An interconnected standalone)

Publication Date: July 9, 2021

Genre/Tropes: New Adult/Friends-to-Lovers/Roommates Romance

Authors: Rachel Jonas and Nikki Thorne

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

I loved, LOVED returning to Cypress Pointe with the Golden boys. Dane and Joss were a total feel good, smexy, friends falling in love story. Sigh…it was perfect.

Joss really does love her best friend, but her parents once began as friends before their marriage fell apart, so she’d rather keep Dane as a friend than ever give into the feelings he stirs inside her and lose him forever. However, when they move in together that closeness makes it harder to contain her emotions and giving in to him seems so much easier. Loving Dane as a friend has always been easy, how much easier would it be to love him as a lover? Dane in nothing by sleeping pants is walking smexy sin.

Dane truly has a heart of gold and has been in love with his best friend since he was twelve. It’s taken seven years to finally be able to tell Joss how he feels and once those feelings are unleashed, it’s really hard to bottle them back up. He wants her in his life if only she would let him in. Dane would give her the world if she would let him. He will take her anyway he can, even if friendship is the only way, but in his dirty fantasies she’s already a dream come true.

While these two may seem to have been inevitable, as both of Dane’s brother pretty much point out to him all the time, the road to happiness is pitted with unknowns; like potential lovers, and angst, like job opportunities, plus so much more. There is nothing that is guaranteed and a friendship like Dane and Joss’ proves that nothing in life is easy or comes without hardship, but anything worthy gained is worth the trouble in earning it.

Dane Golden—Best friend. Temptation in football cleats. Roommate?

I’m screwed.

His followers don’t call him Pretty Boy D for nothing. The guy is, literally, God’s gift to women. I should know. I’ve watched chicks throw themselves at him since puberty.

Sharing his loft should be simple. Easy. But shortly after I settle in, we realize being “just friends” was so much easier when we weren’t sleeping under the same roof.

Seven years of thinking we had this down to a science goes out the window the night Dane sees my “Never Have I Ever” list. Now, he’s on a mission to help me cross off the top four items. Some of which aren’t quite as innocent as he’d expect.

What he’s proposing will break the rules we agreed to when I first came to stay here. He wants me to give in, to let my guard down and face my feelings for once. At least, that’s what that wicked look in his eyes and the mounting heat between us suggests.

This isn’t how I imagined being roommates would go. But a girl can only stare temptation in its green eyes for so long and not weaken.

My best friend wants to have his way with me and, right or wrong… I think I might let him.

Pretty Boy D is a full-length standalone novel. This book can absolutely be read on its own, but when you’re done, it’s recommended that you check out more from the Golden triplets and Joss in the complete enemies-to-lovers trilogy, KINGS OF CYPRESS PREP.

Do you enjoy the frustratingly hot push and pull of a good friends-to-lovers or roommates-to-lovers romance? Then you’ll love getting to know Dane and Joss. Due to adult themes and sexual situations, this one’s only for the 18+ crowd. Expect an HEA and no trigger warnings needed.

Review – My Greatest Mistake by T. Gephart

Book cover for My Greatest Mistake (Crazy In Love Book 1) by T Gephart

My Greatest Mistake
(A standalone)

Publication Date: July 12, 2021

Genre/Tropes: Mistaken Identity/Romantic Comedy/Contemporary Romance

Author: T. Gephart

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Fun, flirty, and so darn romantic. A fantastic summer read with the perfect…well everything in it.

Zara and her dream man, Edwin, I mean Lincoln meet under the most adorable meet-cute I’ve read in while. I also want to throw out that Zara’s sister, Belle, is also the cutest secondary character in every possible way and I really hope she gets a story of her own, okay now back to the soulmates…

When Zara was a teenager she was told her soulmate’s name would be Edwin Carlisle. Now, she didn’t believe in fortune tellers, nor did she believe in soulmates either, but her sister does and when both of them are entering a hospital years later and hear that very name announced over the loudspeaker, it has to be destiny, right?

My Greatest Mistake was super cute and a total joy to read from beginning to the very end. It held me from the very first page and kept me entertained until the very last page and I really hope there will be more from this world since I truly loved it.

Love isn’t fated.
And anything revealed by a sideshow fortune teller about soulmates is also bogus.
But when the same unique name is called over the loudspeaker at a hospital years later, even a skeptic like Zara can’t fight the curiosity.
And when he turns out to be a witty, good-looking, intelligent and successful lawyer, a girl might rethink her stance.
But is he everything he claims to be? Or is he too good to be true?
Crazy attraction and an undeniable connection make for a lethal combination.
And he is either her ultimate true love or her greatest mistake.

Review – Waste My Time by Kelsey Clayton

Waste My Time (North Haven University #4)

Waste My Time; North Haven University #4
(#4 within a series)

Publication Date: July 8, 2021

Genre/Tropes: New Adult/ Second Chance/Surprise Pregnancy Romance

Author: Kelsey Clayton

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Emotional, gripping, and I wasn’t sure I was ready to say goodbye to NHU until the perfect ending.

Waste My Time is a second chance romance filled with so much emotion, it shows how much Clayton poured her heart and soul into this book as it pulled at all of my heartstrings.

I am a product of a second chance romance myself and I can tell you that every thought and emotion that Kennedy possessed I felt at one time or another. My soul ached for this girl as she struggled with self identity, jealousy, grief, sadness, just to name a few of the emotions that ran through her mind as she came to grips with her relationship that was disintegrating right before her eyes.

How does this happen? Easton Donovan was in love with another girl in high school, Tessa, but he never really let her go even when he began his relationship with Kennedy. No matter how strong their relationship was, that doubt, that fear, that lack of trust, well…it only takes one time to break what you believe was strong and Easton only had himself to blame for throwing it all away.

Their story is one that grew out of that broken trust and this entire book is whether they piece it back together or just walk away. It’s heartbreaking, truly emotional, and I loved every moment of this book.

I especially loved how Kelsey didn’t make their road an easy fix. It wasn’t won over a bought trinket, or a dinner out, or steamy bedroom time. Kennedy and Easton both have to work at building what was shattered. I both love and completely understand building a foundation making this an emotional book that was a complete page turner.

With this being the last book in the NHU series, Kelsey seamlessly brought in past characters for bittersweet moments, or for probably the best moment in the entire series ever – the bro-shower! OMG!! I was dying laughing. Waste My Time was nowhere near a waste of time to read, it was perfect and the best possible way to end a phenomenal series.

My name is Easton Donovan,
and I massively screwed up.

I should’ve given her the world.
Should’ve been everything she deserves.
Instead, I broke her like every promise I’ve ever made.

The darkness tells me to let her go.
Memories of my past keep me from letting her in.
Someone should tell her that loving me is a losing game.

Just being around her is a high I’ve never known.
If she knows what’s good for her, she’ll cut me off.
Given the chance, I’ll ruin her the way I’ve done to others.
But with the bomb she just dropped, she’s here to stay.

She’s flawless innocence.
I’m toxic destruction.
And the selfish part is, I need her.

Truth be told, Kennedy Lehigh could be the one to save me from myself.

Rain by A.L. Woods is now live!

New Release June 30, 2021

I’m afraid of nothing and everything.
When that car accident changed my life twelve years ago–I thought it was over.
Dom saved me.
I used to think that I could save him, too.
He was the only one who could see me.
But then Nate came along and saw me, too.
One is my past.
Only one will be my future.
I want them both–only one of them can keep me.
Eventually, I’ll have to choose.
Even if it burns me alive.

A car accident nearly killed her.
So the monster became what she needed: a hero,
But little girls grow up to whisper I love you’s and forever’s.
I should have never touched my best friend’s little sister.
When my actions threatened her safety, I did the only thing I could think of: I married her behind her older brother’s back.
A fire and a five-year prison sentence changed everything.
She threw away our vows, so I plotted my revenge.
There was only one thing I didn’t factor in upon my release.

I’ve spent the last eleven years on the run from my past.
I bed unsuspecting women and rob them in their sleep.
My mistake was underestimating Allegra.
She beats me at my own game.
When circumstances find me at her mercy, I’m determined to erase the tattoo of her pretty hazel eyes and her body under mine from my memory.
But Allegra’s fire isn’t easily forgettable.
And I’m not the only one who feels that way.
We both want her.
Only one of us can keep her.
May the best man win.

Rome is in jail for murdering our father.

Holland is in the hospital fighting for her life.

And I haven’t spoken to my best friend in God knows how long.

Oh, but it gets worse.

It might not seem like a big deal to most, but it sure is to me.

Especially since my heart still longs for the green-eyed boy, I vowed to love for eternity.

But I’m not the only one suffering.

Saint is too.

I feel his misery in every kiss he gives me, in every caress and embrace.

We’re not whole.

Not as long as we don’t have him.

If I want to heal all three broken hearts, there is only one way to go about it.

And that is to be fearless enough to fight for our happy ending.

They’re both mine, and I won’t let either of them go without a fight.

I turn the corner toward the locker room, and I nearly run smack-bang into a wall of man. A two hundred pound, six-foot-three mass of muscle, cut abs, and carved jaw.

A man sporting a grin that makes my skin tingle.

The breath flees my lungs. My pulse spikes. So, this is what it feels like to meet your crush.

It feels like your body is alive. Electric. Made of sparks.

“Hey there.”

That’s it. Two words. They’re all Declan says.

But I already know.

This is going to be a big fucking problem.

The sexiest man I’ve ever seen on TV is worlds hotter in person.

And I was dead wrong when I told Reese this crush would die a swift death in person.

The opposite is true.

The object of my crush stands inches away, with deep brown eyes that travel over me and a body I want to feel under me, on top of me, next to me. I am so fucked.

I haul in a breath.

Time to pretend like I haven’t thought of scoring with him so many damn times.

Or that I’m thinking it again right this very second.

Falling for the rookie wasn’t part of the plan.

As a pro athlete, I have one unbreakable rule when it comes to men — Don’t date another baseball player.

Good thing I haven’t been tempted once in four years in the majors.

Until the day a rising star walks into my locker room. Outgoing, affable, and sexy-as-sin, Grant has confidence and talent for miles. He seems to get me too, maybe because we each have our fair share of secrets and scars — ones we’ll both fight to protect.

But, I’ve got far too much trouble in my past to want to bring any into my present.

All the more reason to resist the kind of dirty deeds his lips and eyes promise.

Even after I plant a scorching, hot kiss on the rookie one night after a game.

Even after he sends me the world’s sexiest selfie.

But when Grant reveals his biggest secret, I’m so damn ready to rip up the rulebook.

Turns out he’s a virgin and he wants me to help him get around all the bases.

The only rule? Don’t fall in love with him as we go.

Scoring with Him is book one in the utterly addictive Men of Summer series. This romance between two professional athletes spans five epic years and continues in Winning With Him.

We drive. He takes phone calls, one after another, speaking in Gaelic through each one. After maybe a dozen, he hangs up and turns to me.

“Don’t try to run. It’s safer for you with me than anywhere else right now.”

“Trust me, my feet hurt too much to…What do you mean, it’s safer with you?”

“Exactly what I said.”

We gaze at each other as the limo speeds through the night. Wherever we’re going, we’re going there fast. “So all that stuff you threatened me with on the plane—”

He interrupts, “What kind of guns have you handled?”

When I blink, he growls, “Answer the fucking question, please.”

Please. Astonished, I open my mouth, then close it again. My second attempt is successful. “. 357 Desert Eagle. Glock G19. AK-47.”

His brows lift. He’s surprised by the AK.

“Stavros had rifles lying all over the place. He liked to shoot at fish in the lake.”

“Of course he did. Fucking Russians.” He shakes his head in disgust, then leans down and pulls a small black pistol from a holder around his ankle.

He hands it to me.

“If we’re separated, use it on anyone who approaches you, even if they seem friendly. Even if it’s a little old lady, shoot that bitch between the eyes.”

I stare at him with my mouth hanging open and my eyes wide.

He sends me a mirthless smile.  “At last. Silence.”

I can’t form words. This psychotic blue-eyed gangster has rendered me speechless.

When I finally manage to regain control of my tongue, I say, “How do you know I’m not going to shoot you?”

“Are you?”

I consider it. “Maybe.”

“Decide. We don’t have much time.”

“You’re insane, is that it?”

“Believe me, lass, I sometimes wonder.”

Pulling a beefy silver semi-automatic handgun from his waistband at the small of his back, he continues. “Things are going to get bad. We’re going to take fire. The car is armored, but if the tires are compromised, we have about eighty kilometers before they die.”

He stops and looks at me. “That’s roughly fifty miles.”

I see. He doesn’t think I’m brain damaged, he thinks I’m just plain stupid.

“I don’t give a shit about the tires. Rewind to the part about things getting bad and start over. What the hell is going on?”

“I can’t tell you.”

“If you can hand me a loaded gun and tell me to shoot an old lady between the eyes, you can tell me what’s happening. We’re past the honeymoon stage. Besides, I can handle it, no matter how bad it is. Spill.”

I could swear that flash in his eyes is admiration, but it’s probably just an urge to wrap his hands around my neck and choke me.

And not in the good way.

“War is what’s happening, Tinker Bell,”he says ominously. “War and all the bloody business that goes along with it.”

“Oh, swell. You’re being cryptic. I just love an incomprehensible Irishman. They’re my absolute favorite.”

“Careful. You’ll exhaust yourself using your entire vocabulary all at once.”

“Can you tell from my tone how much I want to smash the butt of this gun into your face?”

“Can you tell from my face how much I want to smash the palm of my hand into your butt?

”“That was stupid.”

“Says the girl who jumped from a speeding car.”

“I would’ve jumped from a skyscraper if it meant I wouldn’t have to be near you.”

“If I’d known that, I would’ve taken you straight to the top of the Hancock Tower.”

I roll my eyes. “Just tell me the truth. I swear I won’t burst into tears. The last time that happened was before I’d even gotten my first period.”

He pauses, his gaze assessing. “Tell me how it’s possible that you’re not scared of me, or of this situation, or of anything else as far as I can see, and I’ll tell you what’s happening.”

I give it serious thought for a moment. “Honestly? I’m just badass like that.”

After a short, disbelieving silence, Declan starts to laugh.

It’s a deep, rich, sexy sound, beautifully masculine. I hate myself for liking it. And for noticing what nice white teeth he has. And how strong his jaw is. And is that a dimple in his cheek?

He stops laughing abruptly, looking as disturbed by the unexpected outburst as I am. Guess he wasn’t expecting that, either.

“Got that out of your system?”

Glowering, he says, “Aye.”

“Good. So who’s going to be shooting at us?”

More gangsters. I’m in up to my eyeballs. “Because…?”

“They don’t like me.”

I stare at him with my lower lip pinched between my teeth.

He says drily, “Thank you for showing restraint. It must be incredibly difficult.”

“You have no idea.”

“There’s another reason they’re after me.”

When he only sits there gazing at me in inscrutable silence, I prompt, “Anytime you feel like enlightening me, I’m all ears.”
