Genre/Tropes: Trilogy/Age-Gap/Dark Romance
Author: Amelia Wilde
Review/Synopsis:
A brilliant second book in The Collector series and not to be missed!
Once I began this book, I could not set it down. I was taken on a journey where I could not guess the outcomes; one with dark twists, super steamy moments, and an emotional cliffhanger.
I’m left with reeling thoughts on what is going to happen to this couple, but let’s go back to the beginning….Emerson and Daphne begin Sweet Mercy at a critical point where Emerson has just claimed that Daphne is his new acquisition. He’s an art collector and this statement is a bit disconcerting to someone who has just given herself to a man she was falling for.
Their battle of wills over the thought of being kept and his prisoner is twisty and dark, but there is so much more to this story than meets the eye. I love that Amelia has so many layers to uncover, or like a painting to view more to see everytime you look at it.
The book begins in a dark place, but moves to insanely hot mixed with intensely emotional moments. Amelia Wilde pulled out all the right emotions that made my bleeding heart cry and go right back to to pick up the thorny dark times all over again.
The secondary characters are excellent and I hope there will be more of them going forward. Emerson’s brothers, Sin and Will, are protective of him and with good reason. I’d love to see them with their own story, or to at least have more of them going forward. Leo Morelli is ever the protective brother, and I love seeing him pop up in each of his siblings stories. The Beast of Bishop’s Landing may have fallen in love, but he’s still a man to be feared.
I’m anxious to see how the story unfolds going forward, but also excited for Emerson and Daphne to get to their HEA.
Synopsis:
Daphne Morelli is trapped in a gilded cage.
She fought to escape her family, only to be caught by a billionaire. Possessive. Commanding. And determined to keep her.
Emerson LeBlanc wants to own the little painter. She’s become more than his obsession. She’s part of his collection now.
Except she’s more perceptive than he’d like. Her artist’s eye sees the shadows in him. She paints his pain on stretched canvas.
He’s determined to own her. She’s determined to escape.
In the end only one of them can truly be free.
