Where did she go? What happened? Why did she suddenly reappear after sixteen years?

Fans of the Empire High series will both love and hate this book. I can pretty much attest to these feelings. I’ve been here since book one, but let’s recap for just a moment. The first three books were during Brooklyn’s high school years. She began at EHS, a preppy, upper crust school where she was the outcast and the popular kids were called The Untouchables. Matthew Caldwell was part of this group and Brooklyn gained his attention, which changed the course of both of their lives.

In book four, Matthew’s solo book, we get the first inside look into his feelings, sixteen years after Brooklyn’s death. While he wasn’t exactly living his life as a monk, he never was involved in a long term relationship either, but at the end of his book he may have finally been ready to move on and heal his heart, until he hears Brooklyn’s voice.

Now, we are here at book five and we know that Brooklyn didn’t die, but where did she go?

This new story book contains layers that add to each of these books. Brooklyn’s introspection about her past, present, and future are really heartfelt. It’s really going to put the next part of this series into perspective of where this story is going, while tearing your emotions out.

This book focuses on Brooklyn, and while it’s a story of beautiful growth and how it shapes her as a woman, it also is transforming her into who she will be sixteen years from now standing outside Kennedy’s doorstep.

Trust in Ivy and her writing and love the entire book while reading it. It’s a wonderful book. Live in the moment and love every word.

Theo and Emmie’s trilogy has truly been a deviant brilliant ride. Themmie has not been an easily won relationship, but I fell in love with these two and their strong personalities from the very beginning.

Theo Cirillo is a leader, hard and merciless, but when it comes to the MC princess Emmie Ramsey, his possessive and totally obsessive side breaks through which also allows his somewhat softer underbelly. At least as soft as these two get for each other. (Theo’s possessive love is hot and he has become one of my favorite Lorraine characters yet).

Figuring out a balance between Theo’s total obsession with Emmie and her need to be an independent woman a tricky balance, but I loved this duality between them. It’s what made the enemy-to-lover part of the story crackle through the entire trilogy.

Emmie never lost her burning need to be an individual woman or give up her ties to her MC roots. I’ve loved that with this Empire Knight series. The women are fearless and certainly stand on their own without the need for their men, but they do realize that finding love only makes them stronger.

As this trilogy comes to a close we get a peek at the darkness brewing for what is coming up next and who is coming down the pipeline as well. I love, love, love this explosive series and look forward to more from these Knights!

“And how about my beautiful wife?” Nick turned to me, expression shifting.

Less loving. More…dangerous.

“Would you like to see what I brought back for you?” His lips curved up in the corner, eyes flaming with something sinister and dark. But it was gone in a heartbeat, making me question my sanity, as always seemed to be the case.

I nodded subtly.

He stepped toward me, gripping my hip in a possessive hold. I sucked in a shaky breath at the contact. He leaned closer, eyes darkening.

“How do you ask?”

My pulse kicked up. Most other couples would think this a fun game. A play on dominant versus submissive. But nothing about the way Nick held me felt playful. It felt…threatening.

“Please, Nick,” I said, partly begging for him to let me go. Partly begging for whatever it was he brought me, even though a voice in my head told me I shouldn’t want anything to do with it.

Pushing down the trepidation swimming in my stomach, I swallowed hard, brightening my expression as I forced out a charming smile.

“Can I please see what you’ve brought me? You always spoil us.”

He crushed his lips to mine. I moaned, playing the part of his affectionate, loving wife, even though everything about this felt…wrong.

But I had no proof. He’d never hit me. Never hurt me. In fact, he did everything to give me my dreams at the expense of his own.

“Because you’re my Hera,” he murmured against my lips. “My goddess. My queen. My immortal beloved.” He trailed kisses along my jawline before pressing his mouth back to mine.

When he finally pulled away, much to my relief, he kept his eyes trained on mine. Reaching into the inside pocket of his tweed jacket, he removed a long, gold chain, a tulip dangling from the end, the bulb a pear-shaped opal. The gold appeared tarnished and worn. This definitely wasn’t something he’d found at the corner jewelry store.

“When I saw this, I knew there was only one neck on this planet it would look good on.” He stepped behind me, brushing my long, blonde waves off my shoulders.

I remained frozen as he secured the piece. It was delicate, weighing mere ounces. But it felt so heavy around my neck, suffocating and cutting off my air.

I had no reason to think this was anything but a generous gift from a doting husband.

But, somehow, I knew there was more to it.

That he simply didn’t walk into an antique store and purchase this.

That there was something incredibly malevolent about how he came to be the owner of this necklace.

I wanted it off me. Wanted nothing to do with it.

But I didn’t have a choice.
