Wicked As Sin; Wicked and Devoted #1

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

I’m new to both the Wicked Lovers and Devoted Lovers worlds. I had no reference point, but let me tell you I didn’t need one and I am now a HUGE fan of this Wicked & Devoted series!! Wicked As Sin is a hot, edge of your seat, emotional, grab you hard and you won’t be able to stop until the very end read!

It does end on a cliffhanger…GAH!! I can hardly wait for part two because this first part of the duet is angsty and full of suspense so I’m full of anticipation for what the second half will hold.

Pierce “One-Mile” is typically a loner. This is a great trait for his job as a snipper, but for participating in a group or getting along with others his loner personality has made it hard to break out of his solitary habits. When he meets Brea Bell she is the first person to make him want to break all of his habits. He can’t pinpoint why, especially since she belongs to another, but something about her calls to him and he has to have her.

From the moment Brea meets Pierce she can’t seem to stay away. Her dream is to find a good man and marry him. While it seems a little old-school traditional, it is what she wants, so why she’s attracted to a man who makes his living killing people, a man who prefers to have people refer to him for this particular skill set, she doesn’t understand, but she also can’t seem to shake the strong chemistry attraction between them either.

When their attraction finally comes down to a do or die decision what will they choice? Will their choices ultimately lead to a life together or their ultimate destruction? Brea and Pierce will have you biting your lip and turning page after page to find out what decisions they make. Shayla has really proven a master at writing a suspenseful romance.

You can jump right into Wicked As Sin without having read any of the other books in Shayla’s world. Like I said above this is my first book in either world and not only did I love it, I had no trouble following right along. So, if you are like me and this is your first Shayla Black book, no problem, jump right in and enjoy the ride, you will love it!!

Synopsis:

Finally!! The Wicked Lovers and Devoted Lovers worlds collide in epic fashion with the start of a NEW Wicked & Devoted series, steeped in the steamy, angsty romance you don’t want to miss. I’m finally spilling ALL the tea on Pierce “One-Mile” Walker and Brea Bell. This is the story you’ve been waiting for—coming March 3rd!

He’s ruthless. She’s off-limits. But he’s just met his one weakness… Now nothing will stop him from making her his.

Pierce “One-Mile” Walker has always kept his heart under wraps and his head behind his sniper’s scope. Nothing about buttoned-up Brea Bell should appeal to him. But after a single glance at the pretty preacher’s daughter, he doesn’t care that his past is less than shiny, that he gets paid to end lives…or that she’s his teammate’s woman. He’ll do whatever it takes to steal her heart.

Brea has always been a dutiful daughter and a good girl…until she meets the dangerous warrior. He’s everything she shouldn’t want, especially after her best friend introduces her to his fellow operative as his girlfriend—to protect her from Pierce. But he’s a forbidden temptation she’s finding impossible to resist.

Then fate strikes, forcing Brea to beg Pierce to help solve a crisis. But his skills come at a price. When her innocent flirtations run headlong into his obsession, they cross the line into a passion so fiery she can’t say no. Soon, his past rears its head and a vendetta calls his name in a mission gone horribly wrong. Will he survive to fight his way back to the woman who claimed his soul?

Always Yours; Maddie and Liam #2, Roommate Duet #6
(Book 2 within a duet, Book 6 within a series)

by: Kennedy Fox

Review Rating:

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

The twists and turns, the ups and downs, Always Yours will keep you turning pages until the very end.

Hooked on these two finding their HEA from the very, very beginning I couldn’t be happier at how they got there. Well, it was a tangled mess with lots of corruption and drama, but for the sassy-mouthed Maddie and the seemingly laid back Hulk it was the perfect story.

Always Yours is tense and filled with so many moments of “how will they ever get out of this?” but probably the best joy in reading this book is brought forth everytime Maddie opens her mouth. She is filled with such sass and at times, her no filter word vomit, that not only breaks up the tension, but she is also able to bring light to the most horrible of situations. Maddie is definitely my favorite sister of the three.

Then we have Liam; big, Hulky, bounty hunter Liam. He has majorly screwed things up on so many levels, but he’s also this big loveable guy that you just want to shelter. He may be perfectly capable of taking care of himself physically, but emotionally…he’s still trying to play catch up. Thank goodness he’s amazing and his overall character just tries to do the right thing. Liam reminds me of a child who wants to make the right decisions, but he gets led astray by the wrong people, if only he’d stop and ask for help he might actually make the right choices. I adore him so much because he’s really not a bad guy.

Together Maddie and Liam sizzle off the page, but they are also funny and just in sync with one another. They may be young, but they have this soul deep love that resonates off the page. I think that is what makes them one of my favorite couples.

If you’ve been following the entire series, you will adore this sixth book, however as much as I would suggest reading the entire series in order to make this duet more enjoyable, it is not mandatory to do so before reading Liam and Maddie’s story. With that said, since this is the second book in a duet, you DO need to have read the first one for Always Yours to make sense, so please Always Mine first.

The idea that he could have been involved in the terrible experiments that cost his “brothers” everything crushed him. A desperate attempt to force him to remember the truth almost cost him his life. Now his world is in chaos and his only path to finally uncover the truth and atone for his sins leads to Veronica Croft.

Excerpt:

Veronica took a deep breath. “The first time you kissed me we were at the lab. It was after hours and I’d stayed behind because I was finishing up some reports for Dr. Walsh. There were a couple of doctors there who thought they could mess around with me. One in particular made a nuisance of himself. He was married but he thought the younger women were all fair game. That night he’d stayed behind, too, and he was coming on to me. Hard. You walked in and he pretty much peed himself after you were done with him.”

“Did I hurt him?”

His question came out measured so she couldn’t tell if he wanted the answer to be yes or no.

“Not physically, but he didn’t touch me again. Anyway, afterward you stayed while I finished up. You said you wanted to walk me out to my car. I thanked you and we ended up talking.” She could remember how grateful she’d been to not be left alone. “It was the first time I saw you as something other than the ambitious doctor who handled things for McDonald. You stayed way longer than you had planned, and I felt bad for keeping you. You told me it was okay because it might be the only good thing you’d done for anyone in months. I don’t know what made me do it, but I went up on my tiptoes and kissed you. It wasn’t much. It was barely two seconds. When I moved back, you told me that wasn’t a kiss. You asked me if you could show me what a kiss was. And you did.”

He’d been careful with her, making sure she was all right.

Rather like he’d explained he would be now. He’d been careful right up until he’d been sure she was with him and then he’d taken over. Then he’d taken her someplace she’d never been before.

“Show me.”

She came out of the memory at the sound of his command. Show me. That was what he’d said to her that night.

She could come out of the memory because it was hers. That moment was there in her brain and she could call on it for the rest of her life. It was something so personal. Her memories were the sum of her soul. It struck her forcibly what he’d lost. What she’d lost. That memory had truly been theirs, a shared history that should have connected them for the rest of their lives.

Now she was the only one who knew what it had felt like that night. He was right there. He was standing in front of her asking for that connection again.

She went up on her toes. “Thank you. I didn’t want him near me, but I don’t feel the same way about you.” She let her lips brush his, the bare meeting of flesh that came from a woman who wasn’t sure of what she’d wanted then. Of what she wanted now. “And then you shook your head.”

Tucker shook his head and took the beer from her hand. He set it on the ledge and turned back to her. “Oh, that wasn’t a kiss. Let me show you how I kiss. Will you let me kiss you, Roni? I think about kissing you all the time.”

So close to what he’d actually said. She would take it. “Yes. Please kiss me.”

The air seemed to go out of the room and her vision focused in on him. It was like the rest of the world fell away. It was exactly as it had been that first night with him. Something had fallen into place when he’d looked at her and she’d known nothing would be the same.

If he kissed her again, they would have that connection they’d lost.

His hand went around the nape of her neck, sending a delicious warmth down her spine. He pulled her slightly, drawing her close in an easy show of strength. He brought their bodies together and her breasts brushed against his chest. His free hand wrapped around her waist and she took a moment to look into his eyes.

They were the clearest blue. Something about his eyes had always dragged her in. Even when they were cold, even when no one else had been able to see the emotion behind them, she hadn’t been fooled.

“I want to believe. But I don’t want to want to believe,” she said quietly.

“Because it would be easier if I was the bastard you’ve spent years believing I was. I know. Roni, I can’t imagine I was easy to care for then. I’m not easy now. But for however long we get together I want to try to be with you. We can take it slow and find a way to be friends again.”

She sighed at the thought because he was going to pull away and that was the last thing she wanted. Now that she was here and alone with him, she knew she couldn’t lose the chance to explore this side of the man. “We were never friends.”

She moved in and kissed him. It wasn’t what had happened that night, but that was all right. They were making a new memory, one no one could take away from them. It might all go to hell tomorrow, but she would kiss the father of her child again. She would have this new memory of him.

Excerpt

The three guys are squished in the back, and Galen sends daggers at me through the mirror as I bite into my burger. I chew my food, and he glares at me the whole time. When I’ve swallowed, I swivel in my seat, the leather squelching with the motion. “What the fuck is your problem with me?”

He sits up straighter, leaning forward so he can pin me with the full extent of his hatred. “Your very existence annoys the fuck out of me. That good enough for you, angel?”

Saint rolls his eyes as he starts the car and glides out onto the road.

“You just need to skullfuck the shit out of someone,” Caz says, and every pair of eyes lands on him.

Saint smirks, Galen snarls, and Theo is passive. As usual.

Caz beams like he just won a fucking award.

“You are so freaking weird,” I admit, taking another bite of my burger.

Saint watches me eat with a wolfish grin on his face.

“It’s his word of the day,” Theo says, and I arch a brow.

Caz elbows Galen in the gut as he leans toward me, his warm brown eyes lit with excitement. “You know what the Urban Dictionary is, princess?”

Now, it’s my turn to roll my eyes. “Well, duh,” I mumble over a mouthful of burger.

“Caz is addicted to it,” Theo continues explaining.

“And he drives us fucking insane,” Saint cuts in. “He picked skullfuck from the list of trending words this morning, and he’s been trying to fit it into the conversation all day.”

I finish my burger, crumple up the empty paper bag, and throw it on the floor of Saint’s pristine new ride. The wolfish grin vanishes from his face, and I silently fist pump the air as I turn to face Caz. “I think that’s pretty cool. And I’m game to play.”

The goofy smile on his face matches the smug glint in his eyes as he flips Saint off. “The princess loves my geekiness. I’ve just died and gone to heaven.”

Review – Fries Before Guys by Lani Lynn Vale

46826357. sy475

Fries Before Guys; KPD Swat Generation 2.0 #2
(A standalone within a series)

by: Lani Lynn Vale

Review Rating:

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

The most emotional SWAT book to date. I shed so many tears throughout this entire slow burn, age-gap romance.

Avery seriously cannot catch a break. We find that she has lost both of her parents, she’s bullied at school, she’s about to lose her home, and her car is on its last leg. That is just to name a few of things that are going wrong in her life. One of the few things that bring her joy is her photography and the one man she enjoyed taking pictures of, Derek Roberts. It’s too bad he constantly reminds her that he’s too old for her. She will just have to daydream about him, sort of like the rest of her horrible life being different than it really is.

Once Derek meets Avery he can’t seem to stay away from her. The world seems to keep putting her right into his path. He knows he shouldn’t desire someone so young, but he can’t seem to help himself. When he finds out that she’s being abused at school, she’s about to lose her home, and basically that her life is just horrible, Derek seems to find himself by her side even more. She becomes his obsession. One he wants to make a fixture in his life.

Avery’s story will break your heart, it certainly broke mine. For a girl so young to experience so much loss and yet she keeps getting right back up and fighting is extraordinary to read. Derek is the perfect man to be by her side through the hard hitting days, but also the woman he needs to settle his soul.

Synopsis:

Sometimes people come into a person’s life and make their heart skip a beat.

Those people are called cops.

Well, one cop in particular.

A SWAT officer for the Kilgore Police Department, to be specific.

The first time Avery Flynn saw Derek Roberts, she was photographing him for the first annual Kilgore Police Department SWAT calendar. He was leaned back in his squad car, shirtless, and giving her a smile that was completely between them. A smile that hinted at what he wanted to do to her later.

When she scrounges up the courage to ask him out after the photoshoot, he laughs in her face.

Well, screw you, too, Mr. February.

***

Derek Roberts never really paid attention to the photographer.

She was a mousy girl who dressed like a twelve-year-old girl. Her tight leggings, extra baggy Star Trek t-shirt denoting her a Klingon captain, and her surprisingly clean Chucks didn’t leave much of an impression.

Now, the outfit that she was in weeks after he rebuffed her? Yeah, now that caught his attention.

Too bad that happens when he’s trying to save her from what’s sure to be death thanks to an unhinged native Texan who’s convinced she was the reason he lost his last chance at a million dollars.

When he tries to save her, she tells him she’d rather take a cattle prod to the forehead than go anywhere with him.

Challenge. Accepted.
