I am so glad I jumped into the second book of this series. It was filthy and dirty and held a few more twists than the first book.

Phoenix suffers from agoraphobia, so he rarely leaves the Godwin property, much less the attic, and Ani is staying at the manor recovering after her boyfriend beat her. These two form a bond over their “stuck” issues in life, that is until Phoenix unleashes his inner dark monster. Then their bond turns into something different.

Phoenix is sort of like a Jekyll and Hyde, there is a nice version of Phoenix and a not so nice side of him. While the character development never dives super deep, this book does dive into the extreme side of submission. While I wondered for quite a bit of the book how Phoenix would have even practiced such things, I again turn to his split personality where his dark side seems a little looser regarding his fears and his nicer side is the one who really struggles being out in the world.

Ani, a few times thought of herself, that she is like Beauty in a particular Beastly tale. Locked away with nothing to do but reading to pass away her time. This wasn’t far from the truth. The times that these two weren’t naked Ani was reading Godwin family history by way of the matriarch’s journals. It was fascinating to delve deeper into each of the Godwin’s through this viewpoint and it added some of the depth that this series needs.

While I would still love more knowledge on exactly why Phoenix has his fears or why Ani feels this need to stay in relationships with abusive men, but overall the story worked for the two of them and everyone deserves their own version of a HEA.

While each book can be read alone, there is a strong connection to the first one.

For two blue bloods, Walker and Jasmine, are caught in their own web when it comes to The Order of the Silver Ghost. Neither of them want to necessarily be among the debauchery, but neither of them want to quit either. They are among the top of their social circle, never let them see you sweat, so backing out is just not heard of.

What I liked about this final book in the Breaking Belles series, is that it picks up towards the end of Walkers trial. With every other book in this series, it began with all the pomp and circumstance of picking a belle and some of the monotony of hanging around the large estate waiting to see what horrible task would be asked of them next. With Walker and Jasmine we, as the reader, were thrown right into the mix and this time it really does help to have a background in the series leading into this book. It really kept the book moving so I really liked jumping right in since we’ve lived the beginning with the other couples, but that is my own personal preference.

In this book we also get a new belle. Jasmine is an entirely different breed all together. She is Sullivan’s sister, a blue blood herself, and should never have been a belle, but she’s a bit of a rebel by night and debutant by day. Her fiery spirit is different in a whole new way, but was very fitting for this particular book.

Lavish Corruption kept this storyline fresh, while still keeping with the theme of the perverse trials within this secret society going. However, while breaking free from many of the traditions set up to this point, this final book was a perfect way to end this lushly rich and decadent series.

Take a dive into the Alice in Wonderland theme, but add in ton of dark twists and devious turns.

There is no hiding that I love the Morelli and Constantine Midnight Dynasty world. Every author that has contributed to it has captivated me with their story(ies). I was eager to read what Alta’a dark words were going to add, especially since she was stepping into the Morelli world. While King of Spades held promise, unfortunately it was the actual Morelli heroine that just fell short of a homerun for me.

Lyriope is an illegitimate heir of Bryant Morelli. Hidden in the shadows her entire life, even her famous cousins and half-siblings do not know of her existence. However, there is one man in the city, Nick Hudson, a man who runs his business on information, that does know who her father really is and he will not hesitate to use that information to his benefit.

Lyriope and Nick begin this story with a lot of good tension, she’s terribly naive and he’s very worldly, but more than that, she seeks him out for help in the sticky situation she’s found herself in. Basically running from one bad situation into the arms of another bad man, but on the grounds that he sets her blood on fire and the other party doesn’t, she decides the devil you know is the better choice. Makes sense.

What I didn’t particularly care for is that Lyriope is basically a brat and not in the good sense of the word to build tension. Nick takes her in when her life is in danger and at every turn she’s ungrateful, indigent, and childish. At first I sympathized with her emotions, but as the book went along and Nick was once again explaining her life threatening situation and Lyriope was still just rude, honestly I probably would have let her go and told her good luck. (I also had to remind myself that she sought him out and not the other way around, so a lot of her ungrateful words started to get under my skin.)

However, this book isn’t all bad. The steamy chemistry between them is high, but mainly because Nick distracts her harsh words with other activities, wickedly delicious activities. There is good suspense on the mystery of who is trying to capture and hurt Lyriope as well. Nick will not stop until she is safe, but that in itself creates a quandary because once she is, what will become of his queen.

A point of note, this book does end on a cliffhanger and will return again in Queen of Hearts. A 4.5 star review.

Wrapping up a forever ending to this secret bride series and their forever after was absolutely perfect.

When we last left Ember and Christopher it was tumultuous and frankly I wanted to push Christopher’s mother down a flight of stairs. At the beginning of Taken Bride I still felt the same about his mom and that will never change, but the story really takes off as it centers around how Christopher will get Ember back and how the couple will survive once they reunite. Truly exciting, on the edge of your seat stuff.

Papa Rich and Scarecrow have returned for Ember and emotions are high as the poor girl returns to their brainwashed clutches. This time however, it’s not just Ember’s life on the line, but Scarecrow has other incentives waiting in his home to keep her from running. Twists that I did not see coming.

Christopher is furious with his mother when he discovers Ember is missing, but he does everything to track her down and will stop at nothing to get his wife back. This is the last book in the secret bride trilogy and the books need to be read in order in order to make sense and be enjoyed. It’s been an intense and twisted ride, but definitely worth the read.

Each book in the Breaking Belle series just gets better and better! I loved the Belle so much, she brought a new energy and twist to this series that I wasn’t expecting. I continue to be shocked and love how each book is still so unique.

Beau Radcliffe likes control, with a side of danger.
