Alta Hensley has revealed the cover for Villains Are Made!

Releasing: January 17, 2023

I know how villains are made.
I’ve watched their secrets rise from the ashes and emerge from the shadows.
As part of a family tree with roots so twisted, I’m strangled by their vine.
Imprisoned in a world of decadence and sin, I’ve seen Gods among men.
And he is one of them.

He is the villain.
He is the enemy who demands to be the lover.
He is the monster who has shown me pleasure but gives so much pain.
But something has changed…
He’s different.
Darker.
Wildly possessive as his obsession with me grows to an inferno that can’t be controlled.

Yes… he is the villain.
And he is the end of my beginning.

Review – The Wren by Penelope Black

The Wren; #1 of the Wren and Wild duet
(#1 within a duet)

Publication Date: September 28, 2022

Genre/Tropes: Book Duet/Dark/Arranged Marriage/Reverse Harem/Mafia Romance

Author: Penelope Black

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:
Gripping storyline with strong female leads. While this is The Wren’s story, we get to meet all the King women and let me tell you, they are amazing!!

Maeve King is the oldest of her five sisters and at an early age takes over the role of protecting and watching over her younger siblings. When Maeve learns she is set up for an arranged marriage, only to further gain her father’s control in the Syndicate, Maeve takes things into her own hands. Because even though the thought of marrying someone she’s never met enrages her, she refuses to let one of her sisters take her place.

Nico, Tommy and Romeo never see her coming and they each, individually meet Maeve all through separate occasions. I love, love, love how everything in this book plays out and how Maeve, The Wren, individually meets each of her love interests, but never really gives them much of a second thought. This is not your typical RH, at least not yet it seems. I’m not going to say too much about anything else, but I do love her individual interactions between each brother.

I can hardly wait for the next part of this duet because everything in this first half has been absolutely great and unexpected.

Synopsis:

As the firstborn King, I should be the heir to the Irish Syndicate.

Instead, my father wants to marry me off to the highest bidder to fund a war I don’t believe in.

My carefully controlled life starts to unravel, spiraling out of control faster than I can stop it.

And then I meet them, and I can breathe again.

Tall with perpetual smirks and covered in tattoos, they remind me what it feels like to live.

Remind me that I don’t need someone to save me.

I’m a King. I can save myself.

Vicious Lies; Bastards of Boulder Cove #2
(#2 within a series)

Publication Date: September 30, 2022

Genre/Tropes: New Adult/Antihero/Dark/Reverse Harem/Secret Society/Bully Romance

Author: Rachel Leigh

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:
Things are heating up and getting more twisted as the plot thickens. It’s delicious and suspenseful and you won’t be able to put it down.

While there have always been intense feelings between Jagger, Crew, Scar and Neo, whether it was anger, hate or something else now that Crew and Scar have become an official couple Jagger is wondering if he should have made his feelings known sooner.

Vicious Lies dives deeper into the past relationship between Jagger and Scar as well as how he could potentially fit with Crew and her now. He isn’t there to mess up what they have, but he also isn’t willing to walk away from what he feels for her, what he’s always felt for her.

I love Jagger and how he handles his friendships along with his feelings for Scar. She too doesn’t back down with the intense emotions she’s feeling for both guys and stirring deep inside, and I mean deep down inside is something else for the third guy in residence, Neo. Mostly it’s hate, but you know right there next to hate…well, we’ll just have to see.

For Scar, there is a really nice balance between a sweet and loving Crew, a spicy and protective Jagger and I can just picture a total Dom of an alphahole in Neo, but I’m totally here and ready to find out.

Plus…the mystery of who is stalking Scar and wanting to bring everyone down, I can’t wait to find out how it all ends.

Synopsis:

At Boulder Cove Academy, three things are certain:

The Lawless Rule.
The games are dangerous.
Nothing is as it seems.

I came here expecting to face my bullies with an iron fist.

I played their games and won.

Now that I’ve earned my place, at the academy and in their home, I should have nothing to fear.

But with every past there is a shadow and mine is drawing closer with each step I take.

I thought The Lawless were the ones I should fear, but someone far more vicious is watching.

The games should be over, but it seems they’ve only just begun.

The Bastards of Boulder Cove series must be read in order:

Review – Dirty Crazy Bad by Siobhan Davis

Dirty Crazy Bad; Dirty Crazy Bad #1
(#1 within a duet)

Publication Date: September 29, 2022

Genre/Tropes: New Adult/Dark/Reverse Harem/Secret Society Romance

Author: Siobhan Davis

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:
Steamy, steamy, oh so steamy, and all the dark and dirty, twisted up plottiness in this amazing new secret society series.

Siobhan has blown my mind with this new Luminary world. Plus, she didn’t just create a dark and depraved world, but it’s interconnected, in these little ways, to several of my other favorite worlds she’s created that made my heart burst with joy every time they were mentioned.

Ashley is the center of three men’s world, but those three men do not all get along and they all have their own secrets. The secrets throughout the book not only tear relationships apart, but they also bring others together. It’s great and tore me apart all at once!!

While this is a why choose book, it’s not quite cut and dry. What am I talking about? This isn’t a typical reverse harem where all of Ashley’s love interests have been friends for years or have grown up together. Her particular situation is very unique and I totally loved their dynamic which not only spiced up the tension, but also made for lots of a new plot twists. I switched on which guy I was rooting for, at which point in the story, multiple times. I LOVE when Siobhan does that to me.

This book is full of so much and yet it’s only the first part of the story. I’m dying over the cliffhanger and can’t wait to return to find out how it all ends!!

Synopsis:
A new dark college reverse harem romance from the USA Today & WSJ bestselling author of The Sainthood Series.

In the secret society of The Luminaries, no sin will go unpunished…

Sleeping with my boyfriend’s best friend, behind his girlfriend’s back, probably wasn’t my smartest idea.

But Jase is mine, and it’s about time Julia knew it.

Attending Lowell University was supposed to be a fresh start. A chance to end all the sneaking around and make our relationship official.

I couldn’t have been more wrong.

Julia is digging her claws into Jase.

My boyfriend, Chad, is getting in deeper with a local gang.

And my loathsome new stepbrother, Ares, has just moved in.

Ares despises Chad and Jase, and the feeling is mutual. As their rivalry escalates, Ares seems determined to use me as a pawn, and I’m trapped in the middle. It doesn’t help that he’s hot AF, knows exactly how to push my buttons, and my body hasn’t gotten the memo he’s off-limits.

I wish that were the least of my worries.

Pride. Wrath. Lust. Envy. Greed. Gluttony. Sloth.

My life turns upside down the moment the dark secret society of The Luminaries is revealed to me.

Everything I thought I knew was a lie.

Now, I have lost all control over my future, and a heart-breaking new reality emerges.

One where lovers become enemies, enemies become allies, and corrupting sinners to sin is my only way to survive.
***
This is a 138k-word full-length novel and book one of two. It cannot be read as a stand-alone, and it ends with a cliff-hanger. This book contains mature content including cursing and graphic scenes with some dub-con/non-con. This is a dark romance, and it may contain triggers for some readers.

Review – Devil of Dublin by B.B. Easton

Devil of Dublin
(A standalone)

Publication Date: September 22, 2022

Genre/Tropes: Anti-hero/Dark/Mafia/Fairy-Tale Romance

Author: BB Easton

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:
A dark, but beautifully magical tale that had me transfixed by these two broken soulmates.

Once I opened the pages to Devil of Dublin I never once set it back down. I was transported to the Emerald Isle of mystical tales where anything is possible, especially where two souls like Kellen and Darby overcome such incredible odds. I loved every word.

It’s hard to describe the magical beauty alongside the darkness of this book, but both made this story unputdownable. Kellen and Darby meet when they are children in Ireland. Kellen lives there while Darby is only there visiting her grandfather for perhaps a week at a time. Over multiple years their meetings are brief, but life altering as Darby comes back to visit, until one year she doesn’t.

Years pass and both Kellen and Darby change and go through life altering events, but when Darby returns to the once magical land where her life held such possibilities, the adventure of her life really begins.

Devil of Dublin is full of dark moments, non-stop action, and very emotional connections, but at the heart of the story is this deep rooted connection between two soulmates. Their tale is sprinkled with Irish folklore that made the dark moments just a little bit lighter and certainly gave credit to the notion of eternal love.

My heart was filled with joy over their story and cemented the notion that no matter what they suffered, together they were the balm to help heal one another, a rock to lean on and a hand to hold.

Synopsis:
From the Wall Street Journal bestselling author of 44 Chapters About 4 Men (inspiration for the Netflix Original series Sex/Life) comes a dark mafia romance steeped in Irish folklore.

I can’t remember anymore if my grandfather’s eyes were blue or green, but I’ll never forget the way they wrinkled at the corners when he laughed at one of his own jokes. Or the way they sparkled with mischief when he told me tales about the magical creatures that dwelled in the forest behind his humble Irish sheep farm—shy fairies who liked to eat tea biscuits, cruel witches who liked to eat children, a moody lake spirit with a taste for expensive gifts.

As a child, I believed every fantastical word. But when he warned me about the mute boy who also lurked in those woods, the one the priest had declared to be the spawn of Satan himself, I refused to listen. Kellen wasn’t evil. He was kind, and beautiful, and special, and hurting. He was my friend. And with every summer I spent stolen away with him in those enchanted woods, he grew to become so much more.

But when I return to Glenshire as an adult, grieving and engaged to someone else, all those legends quickly morph into nightmares.

My grandfather had been right about everything, especially the boy.

If only I had listened.

WARNING: If you are a sensitive reader or find certain topics to be emotionally triggering, please exercise self-care and select a different book. Devil of Dublin is intended for mature audiences who enjoy dark subject matter, tortured anti-heroes, explicit adult content, graphic violence, heart-pounding suspense, fairy-tale worthy love, and gorgeous Irish scenery. If that sounds like you, then welcome to Glenshire!

Review – God of Pain by Rina Kent

God of Pain; Legacy of Gods #2
(Standalone within a series)

Publication Date: September 15, 2022

Genre/Tropes: New Adult/Dark/Anti-hero/Mafia Romance

Author: Rina Kent

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:
Take my breath away – stupendous reading!! Every single time Rina writes a book I’m blown away!! Her crafted writing and flushed out characters continually slay me.

From the quiet and aloof Creighton King we were previously introduced to, I fell in love with the multitude of brilliance and depth that fascinated me not only in his singular focus of topics or subjects, but also in his awareness of everything or everyone around him. His passion for caring may have only extended to those in his very small circle and he may have seen those certain traits about himself as flaws, but what I love about finding the person who completes you is they don’t see your flaws, they recognize their other half. Creighton was so much more than I was expecting and I love those kind of surprises.

Annika Volkov is bright and shiny and loves to fill the quiet with talking. She is the total opposite of Creighton is just about every way except she’s completely drawn to him like a moth to a flame and even when Creigh gets up and walks away repeatedly from her, he still can’t stop thinking about her.

What makes Annika such a unique character is that she’s grown up in a mafia world. Her father is not a soft man, he’s ruthless and hard, except when it comes to loving his wife-that is his one exception, but Annika is very aware of the world she comes from. Yet, she herself is quite the opposite when you think mafia princess. Her favorite color is purple, she’s outgoing and friendly and she wants to experience everything life has to offer, even quiet and sometimes harsh Creighton King.

I don’t want to color Rina’s book in a rose colored way, but I do adore that she so brilliantly matches her characters in a way that every crack they have in their armor or every flaw they possibly possess, their soulmate fills up those cracks and is drawn to the other even more so because of their flaws. It’s why her anti-villains are so easy to fall for and so easily forgivable. While Creighton does warn her off, Annika is quite stubborn in her pursuit, and it doesn’t take long for Creighton to stake his claim. Prepare for steam, steam, and more steam.

What I love about these Legacy of Gods books is the interaction with other family members. Basically everyone is related or interconnected in someway throughout all of these books and finding that string to the connection is half of the fun. We were introduced to everyone in the first book, but only had a deeper dive into some of the cast members, but now with two new leads who have different best friends and family members, we got an intimate look at several more of the cast members. That part was definitely delicious, for instance; Eli and Creighton and Jeremy and Annika. I loved reading their interactions and can’t wait for more in this world. There is was also interaction with their families in general, which is great for fans or even new readers to get to know who the original Gods are. Probably my favorite moments were glimpses into those family times and hearing myself say, you fall for someone just like your parent, and for these two star-crossed lovers where the book had lots of heavy deep moments, that saying made me chuckle several times.

Once again, Rina’s writing is absolutely brilliant and her books continue to astound me.

Synopsis:
I made a terrible mistake.
Being a mafia princess, I knew my fate was already decided.
But I went ahead and longed for the wrong one.
Creighton King is bad news with a gorgeous exterior.
He’s silent, brooding, and obviously emotionally unavailable.
So I thought it was over.
Until he awakens a beast inside me.
My name is Annika Volkov, and I’m Creighton’s worst enemy.
He won’t stop until he breaks me.
Or I break him.

God of Pain is a complete STANDALONE and can be read on its own.

Review – Bloody Cruel Monster by Lucy Smoke

Bloody Cruel Monster; Sick Boys #6
(#2 within a duet, #6 within a series)

Publication Date: August 26, 2022

Genre/Tropes: New Adult/Dark/Bully Romance

Author: Lucy Smoke

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:
Picking right up where the last book left off Bloody Cruel Monster hardly leaves time to rest. It’s fast paced, bloody – as the title suggests – and full of twists.

At twenty-two the boys are beginning to feel old and recognize that perhaps their old ways need to change. That their group is growing and that looking towards the future isn’t a curse word. Once they take care of the problem, literally sitting in their living room – Ace and by association, Clover, they might just get to do that.

As a member of the Undead, Ace has brought trouble to these boys time and again, and now they want payment in the form of his sister, Clover, but Brax won’t have it. She’s his and no one takes what belongs to him. However, Clover refuses to belong to anyone, but the Undead seem to think otherwise.

Clover is tough and her monsters have come out to play, even with Brax. She doesn’t sit back and let someone fight for her. Not her brother, not the other Sick Boys, and especially not Brax. If the Undead want her, bring it on, she will go down fighting. I do admire her fighting spirit, especially when fighting with the Undead.

Brax struggles with his dominating ways. He wants to lock up Clover and never let her leave, but he also loves watching her fight. His duality is something he struggles with, but his vulnerability is quite beautiful in this book and sometimes I want to slap Clover for not noticing it sooner. However, eventually we get to see that these two are perfect together as his monster loves her no matter what.

This book is bloody and gruesome, at times, and is not for the faint of heart. But for anyone who loves dark, and hard won romance, this book is sinfully perfect.

Synopsis:
It will end the same way it started … with death.

Clover

I gave Braxton Smalls everything. I sacrificed myself and all I ended up with was a broken heart and a shattered soul. Now, I’ve got bigger things to worry about than an angry Eastpoint Heir hot on my trail.

Brax may be the psycho who kidnapped me–but he’s nothing compared to the organization my brother works for.

And me? I’m the monster ready to wreck them all.

Braxton

I live for vengeance. That’s all I know, all I see. Until her. Until Clover La Roux. No … until Evgenia Volkov. Daughter of a Russian mobster. Sister to the man who tortured one of my best friends. The only woman to ever satisfy the cruel desires inside of me.

Whoever took her will pay with their lives. And once I have her back, I’ll make sure she can never leave me again. Consequences be damned.

Meet BB Easton

Wall Street Journal bestselling author BB Easton lives in the suburbs of Atlanta with her long-suffering husband, Ken, and two adorable children. A few years ago, she quit her job as a school psychologist to write books about her punk rock past and deviant sexual history full-time. Ken wasn’t super excited about that, but now that he’s appeared in three of her books and inspired a TV show character, he’s incredibly supportive.

BB’s debut memoir, 44 Chapters About 4 Men, went on to inspire the Netflix original series, Sex/Life, which was viewed by 67 million households worldwide within the first month making it the 3rd most-watched Netflix original series of all time. Because she had so much fun writing 44 Chapters, BB went on to publish four more wickedly funny, shockingly steamy, and heartwarmingly autobiographical books, one for each man in her memoir—Skin, Speed, Star, and Suit.

The Rain Trilogy—a dark, immersive, end-of-the-world romance—was BB’s first work of fiction. Or at least, that’s what she thought when she wrote it in 2019. Then, 2020 hit, and all of her dystopian plot points started coming true. Hoping to fix everything, BB returned with a fun, feel-good romantic comedy called Group Therapy, but alas, the world is still on fire … and so is BB’s desire to write intense, us-against-the-world romances. Her next release, Devil of Dublin, is a dark Irish mafia romance steeped in folklore and family secrets.

Review – Bones by Shantel Tessier

Bones; Dark Kingdom #5
(#5 within a series)

Publication Date: August 5, 2022

Genre/Tropes: Antihero/Mafia/Dark/Suspense Romance

Author: Shantel Tessier

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:
Dillon Bones Reed is a force to be reckoned with and Mia Bianchi is the one woman who can bring him to his knees.

Bones seems tired, with the Kings empire and all of his side hustles, he really needs a queen by his side. I was ready for his book and the prefect woman who would be strong enough to handle this mysterious King. His kink, his strength, his presence, he needed the perfect woman and Mia did not disappoint.

From an early age, Bones is told – love makes a man weak – while he didn’t necessarily understand what that meant when he’s a young boy, as he gets older the concept solidified as he watches each of his brothers fall for their queen. While he would lay down his life for the men who have stood by his side, he never found a woman that he could say the same, until Mia. She brings out every instinct in him that terrifies him. Things he’s never felt and the worst part of it all is that she’s forbidden, untouchable, and his best friends little sister.

Mia has never felt loved. A prisoner in her own home, she’s only ever wanted a normal life, but taken, sold, and then bought by a lunatic her life seems even more doomed until she slowly begins to fall for her captor and discover that in place of his black heart beats a wild passionate man. Mia discovers a new family in the Kings and their Queens and perhaps a new future with Dillon if he’d only open up and allow himself to love.

There were moments in this book that completely wrecked me, but love proves that it doesn’t make a man weak, it only strengthens the bonds we hold dear.

Synopsis:
BONES
I got my name from breaking the bones of a kid who picked on my younger brother, but that’s only where it started.
My black heart craves violence, and being a King gives me plenty of opportunities.

When a friend comes to me for help because someone he loves is in danger, I’m happy to do so. After all, my friends are few, and they are my family.

Once I have her, I do what I have to in order to protect her. She thinks she’s in hell, but this is child’s play compared to what she would have faced.

She’s an innocent through and through and completely off-limits. But that’s not enough to stop me from doing what I do best—taking what’s mine.

MIA
I was born into a deadly Mafia family, yet I’m a nobody. To the world, I don’t exist.

Shuffled from Vegas as a child and sent to Italy for my protection, I became invisible. Until they found a use for me. Now I’m a card my father can play. A chance to cash in on the family name to the highest bidder.

Taken from my home, I’m sold to a King. His hard blue eyes take no prisoners. He’s just another pretty face to hide the evil and in no way my savior.

Now I know what hell looks like because I’m living it. But just when I think I can finally be free, it all comes crashing down, and the King I thought would end me is the only one who can save me.

All I wanted was to be somebody, but now I wish I’d stayed the nobody.

BONES is the fifth book in The Dark Kingdom Series and can be read as a standalone. Due to mature content and themes this book is recommended for readers aged eighteen and over. This novel may contain triggers.

Read Kay’s Review: God of Malice

Rina Kent is an international bestselling author of everything enemies to lovers romance.
Darkness is her playground, suspense is her best friend, and twists are her brain’s food. However, she likes to think she’s a romantic at heart in some way, so don’t kill her hopes just yet.
Her heroes are anti-heroes and villains because she was always the weirdo who fell in love with the guys no one roots for. Her books are sprinkled with a touch of mystery, a healthy dose of angst, a pinch of violence, and lots of intense passion.
Rina spends her private days in a peaceful town in North Africa daydreaming about the next plot idea or laughing like an evil mastermind when those ideas come together.

God of Malice; Legacy of Gods #1
(A standalone within a series)

Publication Date: July 14, 2022

Genre/Tropes: Antihero/Secret Society/Dark Romance/New Adult

Author: Rina Kent

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:
Have you ever wondered what happens when the villain and their queen have children? Wonder no more. Step into a brand new world that is dark and full of monsters and the princesses caught in their sights.

The Legacy of Gods series is a new world that brings us the children from the Royal Elite and Mafia World villain’s and their queens. Characters we’ve already fallen in love with, or for some readers they may never have met, either way, this world is brand new and the perfect place to meet brand new characters who are unapologetic for who they are and a place for us to fall in love with all the dark romance that their actions take us on. It’s a wild ride and one I’m still in complete awe over even hours after finishing the book. I have a feeling this entire series is going to involve lots of book hangovers.

Killian Carson doesn’t process emotions like the rest of the world. He has no empathy for others or remorse for his actions. He also becomes fixated on certain things, becoming obsessive about them to the point of destruction and right now his current fixation has become Glyndon King. Like the prey trying to escape the hunter he loves the chase, the struggle and especially the color red or should I say blood.

Glyndon King is familiar with someone like Killian. Her brother, Landon, is very similar in their personalities. While she recognizes the traits within Killian, she certainly doesn’t like being the center of his obsessive world. She does everything to escape him, fearing he’ll see deeper into her own secrets and darkness and Killian for all of his lack of emotions seems to see all of hers and knows her better than even she does.

These two are one of Rina’s most explosive couples’ yet. I feel like all I can say is Wow, Wow, Wow! Killian was like opening a box inside another box inside another box, etc….His character was fascinating and yet, also kept me on the edge of my seat never knowing exactly what he was going to do. I loved him for what would seem like a hollow shell on the outside, but he was truly a kaleidoscope of color on the inside. Glyndon grew in her strength, but it was more of an uncovering, something she always had inside of her, but Killian helped to bring it out. Their story was turbulent and dark with a splash of mystery that I’ve come to love with Kent’s books, but I was also transfixed and loved every moment of it.

The secondary characters, I almost hate to call them that only because I know many of them will be getting their own books, but for now that’s where they were cast. Each and everyone was fascinating in their own rights. I truly couldn’t decide who I would want to read next because they all have their strengths and deserve a chance in the spotlight. There were also great moments with family and of course when they are gathered together with their friends it checked off everyone of my boxes for a truly great beginning to this new series!

Review – Rogue by Sinclair Kelly

59934175. sy475

Rogue; Sinner’s Mark MC #2
(#2 within a series)

Publication Date: July 15, 2022

Genre/Tropes: Series/Dark/Antihero/Reverse Harem/MC Romance

Author: Sinclair Kelly

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:
Rogue is the second book in this unique MC series and I loved jumping right back into this Sinners Mark MC world.

I love how fast paced a reverse harem book typically is. There are lots of character POV’s which always amp up the emotional aspect of the story and I’d say most of the books have a darker or at least suspenseful edge to the plot which always keeps the pages turning. It’s certainly one of the reasons why I love this trope. Throw in the steamy good times and I’m a total sucker for a woman who gets loved up by lots of hot men. Seriously…who wouldn’t?

The Sinners Mark MC series has certainly checked off all of these markers and never once have I found the plot stagenent nor did I find any of the characters lacking. This particular MC series is completely unique with a serial killer living in their midst, a believable twin swap, an MC merge hanging in the balance and a love story unlike any other. It’s riveting and totally steamy to boot!!

Remi falls even further for her Sinner guys in this second book, while the mounting tension grows as more secrets make it harder to expose her true feelings. While everyone is working to uncover the truth about what’s happening at her father’s MC and why someone is after her and her twin sister, Etta, Remi feels torn and struggles with wanting to tell Ace, Trip and Saint the entire truth about her past, but Rogue and Squire agree it’s not the right time to open that truth bomb quite yet.

Rogue does ends on a cliffhanger, so the story will continue in the next book. If you enjoy reading an entire series back to back you might want to wait, but otherwise…enjoy this steamy and suspenseful book!!

Synopsis:
Secrets are kind of my thing.

Or at least they were. Now my lies are catching up to me, and the stakes are higher than ever.

The men who unexpectedly claimed me are breaking down every wall I have, exposing vulnerabilities and opening old wounds. But now is not the time for weakness. Not when someone is out to get us and enemies are around every corner. It’s time for me to embrace the inner strength that’s guarded my soul for the last decade and prove to the Sinner’s Mark men that I’m more than capable of taking care of myself…and them too.

The average woman would be afraid. But I’m not your average woman. I’m the monster under the bed. The shadow lurking in the corner. I’m the one thing the darkness fears, and there will be no mercy for those that hurt the ones I love.

Rogue is book two in the Sinners Mark MC series, a medium-burn reverse harem romance featuring darker elements. CONTENT WARNING: This book contains references to sexual assault-related trauma along with violence/torture and graphic sex scenes that some readers may find triggering. Even though this is a work of fiction, please read with caution. Prepare for a cliffhanger ending with no HEA until the final book.

Saint is book one in the Sinners Mark MC series and should be read for the best reading experience before jumping into Rogue.

Saint (Sinner's Mark MC Series Book 1)

There’s a moment in every girl’s life that defines her. I’m just not prepared for mine to happen at the altar, staring into a pair of intense brown eyes that will never belong to me, with mistletoe above my head, and twinkle lights glowing softly for our first kiss as man and wife.

Now he and his men want to claim me as their own. Want to put me on some pedestal and treat me like a princess, or at least their twisted version of one. Every look fires my blood. Every touch threatens to incinerate us all.

But I have secrets. One, they may be able to forgive. The other, well, it’s unforgivable. Once they find out what I’m hiding, there won’t be time for me to explain. My only hope is they’ll grant me mercy. Give me a head start. Let me disappear before they rain their own brand of justice down on all my lies. Because I’m definitely on the naughty list this year…Santa doesn’t even need to check his list twice. Ho, ho, f*cking, ho!

Saint is book one in the Sinners Mark MC series, a medium-burn reverse harem romance meant for 18+. CONTENT WARNING: This book contains references to sexual assault-related trauma as well as an attempted sexual assault scene, along with violence/torture and graphic sex scenes that some readers may find triggering.

Review – Beyond My Darkness by R.C. Boldt

Beyond My Darkness
(A standalone)

Publication Date: July 12, 2022

Genre/Tropes: Antihero/Romantic Suspense/Gang/Supernatural Twist

Author: R.C. Boldt

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:
This book was just everything! Funny and witty, steamy and intense with a supernatural flair and dark gang vibes. Every moment flowed and all of the characters clicked together with ease, so what I’m trying to say is….it was reading perfection!

This is R.C. Boldt writing at her best. Combing her wit of steamy romcoms with her walk into the romantic suspense relm. This combination is so good and so well pieced together that the intense moments are perfectly well balanced with lots of snarky humor.

Georgia Danvers was an absolute delight. Sassy and smart and totally full of word vomit every time she’s around Bronson Cortez, the leader of the Scorpion gang. While Georgia knows better than to attract Bronson’s attention, she can’t avoid the dead bodies that keep piling up in her morgue, that literally keep telling her warn him. What is a girl to do when she can speak to the dead?

Bronson doesn’t trust outsiders, but when a gorgeous redhead shows up in his territory to give him a message, it’s safe to say that he doesn’t like it and has a message of his own. However, Georgia is a fiery woman who continues to come back again and again. There are not many people who stand up to Bronson Cortez and live to see another day, especially ones who sass back the way she does, but there is something about her that intrigues him.  Whatever it is he wishes he could figure out before it proves too dangerous for both of them.

Bronson is a great anti-hero and honestly Georgia is too. Both of them hold their own forms of darkness, but they are also good people if you look at them from all the different angles. I LOVE these kind of stories and especially love how the characters find their paths to each other. Anti-heros never have an easy road as there are always a ton of obstacles to overcome and this book added in mystery with that touch of supernatural so it really had an extra zing that kept the pages turning.

Synopsis:
USA Today bestselling author RC Boldt delivers a seductively unique romantic suspense with a paranormal twist in Beyond My Darkness…

Twelve years ago, I fled, vowing to never again use my power. But everything changes when I break that vow and bring two bodies back to life in the morgue.

It sends me spinning directly into his orbit.

Arrogant. Menacing. Enigmatic. That’s Bronson Cortez, the notoriously violent gang leader who remains elusive to authorities.

He breaks the law at every turn and answers to no one. But when he offers me an alluring glimpse of what lies beneath that iron-clad exterior, I realize there’s more to him than meets the eye.

The man who fiercely guards his heart somehow manages to claim mine.

But he doesn’t know the truth about me.

I wonder if he could be the first to accept me for who I am—what I am.

I wonder if he’ll be the first to see beyond my darkness.

Bloody Cruel Psycho; Sick Boys #5, Bloody Duet #1
(#1within a duet, #5 within a series)

Publication Date: May 20, 2022

Genre/Tropes: Duet/New Adult/Dark/Anti-Hero/Enemies-to-Lovers Romance

Author: Lucy Smoke

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:
Dark and not for the faint of heart, but I like dipping my toes into this kind decadent treat from time to time and Bloody Cruel Psycho fed my twisted heart.

Braxton Smalls is full of darkness and revenge. He sets out to gain leverage over the man he’s searching for by kidnapping his sister, Clover. Braxton didn’t account for his kidnapee being mouthy, fighting back, or inciting his monster’s lust, so when she offers up herself as a deal in place of her brother, Braxton’s monster agrees.

Clover is no wallflower. She too has an inner monster, so when Braxton comes to take her she doesn’t hold back. She never expected to feel her inner darkness swirl to life as much as it does around him, it seems to crave him, but could they be too toxic for one another to last beyond the deal they made?

While this is my first step into the Sick Boys world and it is a connected story, this is still Braxton and Clover’s very own tale. I was never lost as the other characters came in, nor as backstories flowed in around them. Lucy brilliantly pieced this as a standalone, well technically a duet, and while reading, I was never the wiser that other books came before this. I loved how the other characters flowed in and out, pushing and prodding the main characters along. Brilliant anti-heros, the bunch of them.

Since this is book one in a duet, there is a mighty cliffhanger. I can hardly wait to dive back into to this twisted, dark world to find out what happens next to Braxton and Clover.

Synopsis:
A life for a life … will kill the both of us in the end.

Clover

I know nothing of the Sickness at Eastpoint University. I know only the backroads that slip past the southern beaches and the gators that make their way onto the swamps shores. Until him. Until the killer known as Braxton Smalls finds his way into my stilted trailer on the coast of Port Charlotte.

He came looking for Ace, but he found me instead…

Braxton

I’m a monster. Always have been. Always will be. The only people I’ve ever given a shit about are my boys and their girls. No one hurts my family, and knowing that someone has … and that they’ve gotten away with it plagues me.

Ace Volkov will pay for what he put Avalon through and if I have to use his most precious weakness to draw him out, I will.

She thinks she can bargain for his life with her own, but I mean to show her that there’s nothing I won’t do to see my vengeance through to the end.

Temptation; Secrets of Winworth #2
(#2 within a series)

Publication Date: April 20, 2022

Genre/Tropes: Antihero/MMF/Intrigue/New Adult/Secret Society/Forbidden/Dark Romance

Author: L.K. Reid

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

A twisted, dark, monstrous story that completely blew my mind!

What a lusty, dark tale this was. Skyler is torn between two men, a man she’s known her entire life, a man she now knows is a monster, but how does she separate the man from the monster?

AND

A man who came to town, made her fall for him, only to find out she’s been used as a pawn in his own wicked games, but tell that to her traitorous heart.

The two men also have demons whispering in their ears and it’s delicious and wonderful and who knew these two guys would be so smoking hot, especially when they both love Skyler so very much. (fanning myself)

This book is still full of Winworth secrets, but it focuses more on the three main characters; Skyler, Dylan, and Asher and their evolving relationship. I loved delving deeper into how they came to this dark point in their current lives and how they move forward as a tortured triangle.

Why tortured? Well, try growing up with all the secrets and lies like these three did, each with different monsters whispering in their ears. Think of Winworth like living on a giant chessboard, each of them a pawn being moved around, but instead of finally being moved by someone else, their circumstances brought them all together and they are finally taking back control.

Temptation is super dark, which has been a central theme since the beginning of this series, but this story delves into a complicated relationship revolving around three people. Three monsters who have an extra layer of want and need rolling between them with an ever evolving plot and showing that even monsters need love.

There will be no spilling secrets from my lips, as a lot comes out in this book and there is still more to come. I’m excited for more darkness and what Reid will bring as this plot continues to unfold.

Synopsis:

Violent dreams, and shattered souls
Beautiful demons without remorse

A cold heart and a vicious touch
Who is a monster, and who is not?

Lies.
Secrets.
Tragedies.

Skylar thought she had seen it all—monsters with pretty faces, friends with terrible secrets and lives filled with beautiful lies.
But she was wrong.

In Winworth, nothing was as it seemed.

Not The Order ruling over the sleepy little town she grew up in.
Not the wicked strangers that began pouring into Winworth out of nowhere.
And certainly not the people she thought she knew.

As the masks started falling, she could now see the true depravity crawling through the streets.

Torn between the two worlds—between the two men—she had to decide.
Was she going to cling to the past, or run for the future?

Or was she going to let monsters decide her destiny?

TEMPTATION is Book Two in the Secrets of Winworth series, dealing with dark themes that might not be suitable for all readers. It is recommended only for readers above the age of 18.

Brutal Vows; Queens and Monsters #4
(A standalone within a series)

Publication Date: April 28, 2022

Author: J.T. Geissinger

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

An enemies-to-lovers story with the best verbal sparring EVER and a wicked, hot chemistry that boils to an incensinerary inferno! I continue to love everything about this witty and blazing hot series.

The Irish Mob and the Italian Mafia are looking to merge and what better way to do it than the age old method of marriage. Spider Quinn is second in command in the Irish Mob and willing to step up to the plate of an arranged marriage. He’s not looking for love, actually the less he’s attracted to the woman the better. He doesn’t need the distraction of love and the messiness of feelings to get in the way of his job or his life, but when he goes to meet his betrothed, he doesn’t count on the very hot, very mouthy, very perfect woman of his dreams – Reyna, the aunt of his future wife stirring something to life. As much as he tries to ignore her, he can’t seem to look away.

While these two never cross lines during any pending marriage moments, it’s hot and intense anytime they are in one another’s vicinity. Aside from Spider being highly unavailable, because he’s engaged to her niece, Reyna has promised never to get involved with another man ever again. She was in abusive marriage and barely survived so Spider is forbidden on lots of levels. However, Spider ignites her desires, stirs her blood, and makes her want. Things she thought long dead, right alongside her husband’s corpse. She shouldn’t want her nieces’ future husband and she will do everything to push aside those longing feelings.

These two circle one another denying that they may also be each other’s perfect match. If only there weren’t so many obstacles in their way – fanning myself. Brutal Vows is hot, witty, and full of the perfect angst. Another great addition to Queens and Monsters series, but can be read as a complete standalone.

Synopsis:

An Irish mobster with a brutal grudge.
An Italian mafia princess with a dark secret.
Two enemy empires joined in sacred marriage vows.
Let the hating games begin.

Review – Death Wish by K. Webster

59971245. sy475

Death Wish; Deception Duet #2
(#2 within a duet)

Publication Date: March 29, 2022

Genre/Tropes: Duet/Reverse Harem/Antihero/New Adult/Dark Romance

Author: K. Webster

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

Who could have guessed that Scout would have topped my favorite between the terror triplets? I’m shocked myself, but when it comes to Webster’s writing it really shouldn’t surprise me. She continually writes the most terrifying psychos who are cuddly and loveable, for the right woman. I cannot get enough of K. Webster and her dark romances.

Death Wish picks up right where we left Landry discovering out that the man she was falling in love with is actually three separate individuals; Scout, Sparrow, and Sully. While it does help explain the personality changes she saw in him, she’s now even more confused by their duplicity and lies.

Landry ran with younger sister, Della, escaping years of abuse, thinking she was running to a friend’s home, instead she ended up at the triplet’s apartment. Now that she’s within their realm, they all agree, for once, that she’s never leaving their arms again. The tougher part is actually winning her back now that she knows they’ve been playing her, but if the triplets know her like like it was their job to do, then winning her over shouldn’t take long.

Their villainous charm weaves around Landry. How could it not? Each of these men have their own dashingly, wicked way to win her over and I’m dying to be in her shoes. Even Della would rather stay with them and her views on each triplet is funny, just as they care for her in theirs.

The second half of this duet is steamy. Webster kind of steamy which means there is always great emotion tied right up with all that delicious heat. Landry also finds her inner fierceness which is perfect for being with the Mannford triplets. They could never be with a demure princess and she needs a strong backbone to be by their side.

I hated seeing this story end and seriously, I never thought these three were redeemable, but why do I keep doubting anything Webster writes. She’s the queen of dark psychos and the terror triplets were brilliant anti-heros.

Synopsis:

All I wanted is for my little sister Della to be safe and happy. And maybe, in brief stolen moments, I dreamed of a happy ending for myself with a brown-eyed man. That hope has turned into sharp, bright fear. There’s only survival now.

I’m the daughter of a controlling and cruel billionaire, so I understand about power. But I find myself fighting anyway. I find myself testing them.

I have claws and I bite. I’m not going down without a fight.

It’s like I have a death wish.

Review – The Truths We Burn by Monty Jay

The Truths We Burn; The Hollow Boys #2
(#2 within a series)

Publication Date: February 16, 2002

Genre/Tropes: Antihero/Dark/Enemies-to-Lovers/Second Chance/Secret Romance/New Adult Romance/Intrigue

Author: Monty Jay

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

I loved how this book was plotted, written, and how brilliantly it all came together! Rook and Sage were emotionally deeper and darker together than I was expecting. A gripping read from start to finish.

I hardly like to start a review by referencing the previous book, but The Truths We Burn is a book that really should be read after reading The Lies We Steal.  In the first book Rosemary, Sage’s sister, is dead. Rose is past tense and the Hollow Boys are seeking justice throughout the entire book for her mysterious death. As a reader we don’t personally get to know Rose or the true emotions behind why Rose was so important to each of these boys since Rose is an abstract thought, but in book two, this book, the veil is now lifted and ties become connected making Rose a living and breathing subject and the plot is now thicker. Everything was more emotional and these boys borrowed a place in my heart even deeper.

This has to be one of my favorite type of writing styles as a reader. Moving timelines where we believe we are in the present, but it then moves to the past, and then moves beyond what we thought was the original present, completely blowing my mind, yessssss! While it may seem frustrating, it truly makes the plot suspenseful while also giving depth and tons of emotions to the characters unveiling their motivations to those past actions.

Let me explain. The Lies We Steal is one continuous timeline, like I said, Rose is dead. The Truth We Burn begins with part one in the past where Rose is alive and while I seem fixated on this point, this is very much Rook and Sage’s story. We begin in the past where Rook and Sage are more acquaintances by association. They live in the same town, Rose is dating Silis, Rook’s best friend and they attend the same high school. Once Rose dies and we move past everything in book one, we now land in part two where Sage is returning from her stay in an asylum and Rook isn’t happy that she’s returned. There is so much history to burn down between these two and their second chance, enemies-hate relationship is angsty galore.

Sage and Rose are twins, but over the years they have grown apart, become their own people. While Sage wears a mask to get through her day, to be the queen bee at school, to actually be with her boyfriend that she barely tolerates, she also envy/hates Rose who runs free, dates the wrong boy, wears the wrong clothes, but the main thing Rose gets to do is be herself. It’s basically exhausting being Sage. Underneath her mask she is a beautiful phoenix and I loved the strong woman that she kept hidden.

Rook is the only person who notices Sage isn’t who she pretends to be, but it’s because he also hides secrets. While he’s drawn to her poisonous beauty, it’s not her outside beauty that draws him in, it’s her fire, spirit, and willingness to fight, something that he’s personally drawn to, his own personal demons crave. Sage may be his reckoning or his undoing. Rook may be known throughout town as a crazy pyro, but he is so much deeper than he lets others see and my emotional heartstrings pulled for this man…hard!!

Rook and Sage’s story was absolutely divine, their brokenness, their passion, their worry over others was heartbreaking. This book touches on a lot of dark and tough subjects; abuse, mental illness, death, etc…, but it is written with deep love and understanding. The connection the Hollow Boys have with each other leaps off the page and in turn the love they find with each of their women is all consuming it makes this book a gripping page turner.

Synopsis:

Beneath the deepest parts of Ponderosa Springs lied secrets that we never meant to be uncovered.
Blood has soaked the hands of those we trusted most. Decrepit intentions finally come to light.
And now truths are ready to be incinerated in the open for everyone to witness.
I was ready to watch this town that made me the villain, Rot in front of my eyes, but it seems ghosts don’t stay buried here either.
Everyone’s favorite sweetheart has returned to Hollow Heights dragging nothing but unanswered questions and grim memories behind her.
A distraction I can’t afford with the police sniffing around.
A mistake that torched my last piece of humanity.
The dirty little secret that has returned searching for closure surrounding her sister’s mysterious death.
But I know the innocent, lost girl is an act. Underneath it’s just another part of her show.
They all are eating from the palm of her hand, puppets on her string.
But not me.
I see her for what she truly is, I always have.
A fake. A manipulator. A liar.
I won’t let her ruin all we have worked for. I refuse to let her derail our plan of vengeance.
I’ve played your game once before, Sage, now it’s time to play mine.
And you’re not making it out without getting burned.

It’s been months since the day we stood above that empty grave that stunk of burnt flesh and secrets. All of us were dressed to the nines, one of us wearing a wedding dress, a day that was supposed to mark the beginning of a new adventure. It marked the bitter end of our vengeance. We have done things that have marked our souls for eternity. But before we get there, we have to go back. Back to where it all started. The place I could find in my sleep.

Hollow Heights University in the macabre, somber seaside town of Ponderosa Springs. A college for prestigious, wealthy children to receive the highest education. A town drowning in treachery and secrets that became our damnation. But it wasn’t the forest surrounding the grounds or even the mysterious hidden mausoleum that haunted me. It was them. The ones that lurked in the night, things so wicked, so twisted, so evil, they would become the rulers of my nightmares. The Hollow Boys.

One wrong move and I landed myself directly in their line of fire. This is not a story about love, it is not a story of happy endings. Love just happened to blossom in our sorrows, in our pain, our fear, our blood. Every terrible thing they ever did, we watched, we helped, we loved them anyway. Some run from their monsters, we fell in love with ours.242140826-408479337566339-7143392252972375453-n

Review – Grudge by Coralee June

59338230. sy475

Grudge; Malice Mafia Trilogy #3
(#3 within a series)

Publication Date: January 31, 2022

Genre/Tropes: Trilogy/Mafia/Dark/Reverse Harem/Antihero Romance

Author: Coralee June

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

Coralee June has created a wicked, dark trilogy legacy with Malice, Wrath, and Grudge. I could live in this world and never tire of reading about the Civella family ever!

Each character has changed since the beginning of this wild journey and yet the underlying dark monster that lives right underneath their skin still radiates like a beacon and swirled right off the page drawing readers, like myself, to devour page after page. Coralee’s writing is truly addicting and this story, especially, is pure perfection.

Anthony Civella is still my favorite character in this series. His madness is wrapped up in comedic genius and softer undertones. His underbelly has been on display since the beginning, making him the vulnerable, but also the most volatile never knowing how loose his cannon actually is. This time around he is Juliet’s most stable partner. I know right!! My love for Anthony grew even more, by leaps and bounds, everytime he came on the page. He’s her rock when things get tough, giving her a laugh when she needs it, a kind word, a push, or even darkness when the moment warrants it. He understands her vulnerabilities, he’s been where she’s at and he will always fall with her or rise to where she’s at to be right by her side. Anthony may always be a little mad, but the best people know they are and know how to deal with their madness. Lord, I love that man.

Juliet and Nick, or Malice as a lot of people know him, could have been the king and queen, but Nick realized he didn’t need an entire kingdom to still have his queen by his side. Nick just needed Juliet to be happy. At the end of Wrath, he faced his own mortality, and now he’s facing his own mistakes. There are consequences for a lot of what he’d done and Nick is dealing…almost losing everything has changed a lot in Nick’s life. He’s grown a lot from the first book from the empty shell of Malice, into Nick the man. He’s still possessive and dark and completely alpha, which is super hot…but he’s also a softer Nick which is also super hot!! I love this new version of Nick.

Then we get to William, the man with a grudge. The boy who grew up in the shadow of his older brother, yet also protecting his younger one. Never feeling quite adequate, William now wants it all. The kingdom, Juliet, everything. Can William finally pull out from the shadow of his brother and run things his way or will this motive finally destroy the foundation of everything he’s ever believed? Will every move he makes break Juliet’s heart and destroy his family?  William, William, William…come on work with your brothers!!

Grudge holds more steam, more tears, more story, just more, more, more. While I can admit it wraps up a fantastic trilogy. I’m also sad that it wraps up a fantastic trilogy because like I stated at the beginning, I could live here forever.

Synopsis:

Malice was a broken man. A leader with a cracked crown.

Guilt was eroding his throne.

William was an opportunist. A man with a grudge.

Ambition dressed in an iron suit.

Anthony was a survivor. A lover with hope.

Healing wrapped in good intentions.

I’m a pawn, and it’s up to me to remind these men that they’re stronger together.

I just pray that this fight for power won’t tear us all apart.

Beautiful Nightmare; Dark Dreams #2
(#2 within a duet)

Publication Date: January 13, 2022

Genre/Tropes: Duet/Forbidden/Antihero/Dark Romance

Author: Giana Darling

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

This is the continuation of this dark duet…Tiernan and Bianca pick up right where they left off. Bianca is now staying at the Constantine Compound and Tiernan is standing up against his tyrannical father.

With book two there is more tension between these two powerhouse families and Tiernan and Bianca bring a lot more passion, along with all the feels.

Tiernan isn’t about to stand down in the face of either his long suffering Morelli family nor will he let the Constantine’s stand in his way of getting Bianca back into his life. He’s been on his own when it comes to familial support for as long as he can remember. So much so, that he’s made his own circle with The Gentlemen who are closer than those whom he shares blood with. However, will he turn down a helping hand when those blood brothers come knocking at his door, especially when he could use every gun and fist to get his precious Biana back by his side. How deep does pride run when it comes to love? I love revisiting the Morelli’s, they are dark, dangerous, and the very definition of an antihero.

All Bianca has ever wanted is to fit in and be loved. To really truly have someone fight for her. It becomes very clear once she’s inside the Constantine household that she doesn’t fit in to Caroline’s uppercrust image of what a Constantine is, but there might also be something more at play. While on the outside this is a place that Bianca’s always dreamed of belonging, she now only dreams of returning to Tiernan’s side. A beautiful nightmare is what she had while living under his roof and she misses her brother, Brando, terribly, not to mention The Gentleman and their growly leader, Tiernan as well.

While Tiernan and Bianca may ignite everytime they see each other, Tiernan is smart enough to know he can’t just pull Bianca out of where she’s at. Knowing it’s something she’s wanted her entire life, she has to return to him willingly or else she will never be happy by his side, but the big question that haunts him is will she truly be happy by his side? Now that he knows what he wants, which is her, he will do anything to make it happen. Even become the man he never knew he could be.

I wept so many times…Brando made me a mushy, cry baby over and over. That sweet, little boy wrapped every single adult around his finger and I was one of them I wholeheartedly admit. I almost can’t wait to see what he does as an adult, but for now in his adorable cute boy phase, he made my heart weep.

Beautiful Nightmare was everything that a second half of a duet needs. It wrapped up all ends and was a great fit within the Dark Dynasty world.

Review – Binding Rose by Ivy Fox

59595385. sy475

Binding Rose; Mafia Wars
(An interconnected standalone within a series)

Publication Date: January 7, 2022

Genre/Tropes: Reverse Harem/Dark/Mafia Romance

Author: Ivy Fox

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

A wickedly and sinfully good book. Ivy did a great job, even if this was her first jump into the mafia realm, she’s no stranger to RH, and these men are usually not the sharing kind. Ivy really worked her magic on capturing that spirit while still creating a unique story that totally fit. It was emotional and hit all the feels for each character.

First and foremost, I need the rest of this series, because…hello!! It was delicious.
The concept, the writing, the plot, the entire romance story…everything was excellent! All the interconnected links to the other mafias; whether bratva, cartel, etc…is intertwined and all twisted up. I desperately need to get my grubby little hands on the other books as I’m intrigued and completely invested in this world!!

Now back to this book specifically, the Kelly men, who are made men with the Irish mob are each unique and Rosa Hernandez, a woman from the Mexican cartel, is the perfect woman to stand by their side.

I love a well written reverse harem where the woman fits so well with each man and is able to adapt, or more appropriately, be herself with each man’s individual personality.

Colin Kelly is this big, giant, stoic soldier who pretty much turns into a marshmallow for Rosa. He’s the beautiful, poetic intellectual half that she needs, while also making her feel safe and secure.

Shay Kelly is the youngest, making him the playful, outgoing Kelly. His affection is exactly what Rosa needs in the lonely world she’s just stepped into, but Rosa is also everything Shay needs for his needy affectionate personality.

Lastly we have Tiernan Kelly, the current head of the Irish mafia. He’s cold, calculating and wants nothing to do with his new bride. However, Rosa continues to shock him with how fierce she is and deserving of the seat by his side.

I loved all the connections and information to the other mafias. I am totally invested and completely intrigued by the rest of this series. I want to know more and even though the other books are written by other authors, I’m sooooo there! Very well done and I’m excited to seek out and finish this series.

Synopsis:

I was sold to my enemies.

You would think that being forced into a loveless marriage to ensure an alliance would be unheard of in this day and age. And in most cases, you would be correct in that assumption.

But not for me.

A cartel princess has no vote on who she can or cannot marry—much less love. Any decision in my life was forfeited just by being born into the most powerful Mexican cartel there is.

Still, it does sting that I’m to be hand-delivered to the Irish mob and marry into the Kelly family, who my own brother has coined to be nothing more than bloodthirsty savages.

They’re animals, Rosa. Filthy, unscrupulous, vicious animals.

Those were his exact words, yet he still followed our father’s orders to walk me down the aisle, making sure I didn’t run from my obligation.

As if that was even an option.

All my choices were stolen away from me the minute I became another pawn to be used and abused at the hands of evil men.

Which leaves me to question…

Can a rose blossom in the dark? Or will I have to rely on my thorns to protect me against the fate that’s been bestowed upon me?

Only time will tell if I’ll survive this cursed life or become another lost soul in these cruel and merciless Mafia Wars.

Review – Triple Threat by K. Webster

Triple Threat; Masters and Mercenaries
(#1 within a series)

Publication Date: January 11, 2022

Genre/Tropes: New Adult/Reverse Harem/Antihero/Dark Romance

Author: K. Webster

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

I love a good redemption story and this a fantastic redemption story times three!!

Welcome back to the dark Morelli/Constantine world where Winston Constantine delivered retribution to three triplets; Scout, Sparrow, and Sully when they messed with his Ash.  This time around Webster has brilliantly whipped up a tale where these three men, who would have seemed beyond redemption, are the dark princes in their own twisted fairytale.

This tale is dark, and so fantastically fitting for the terror triplets. I loved diving into their minds, each man is different, but also similar, sharing a bond that only multiples share. There is also a sibling bond, the link where you love your brother, but also want to murder them. Even after everything they’ve been through, they are thicker than thieves, but this new job may just tear them apart.

Landry Croft is an heiress who’s basically been locked in her penthouse for the past six years, but when she’s finally released to attend college classes, their uncle sees this an opportunity to move in. The triplets are assigned to shadow her to get an inside advantage, using their identical faces to swap out time and get to know the Croft heiress and everything in her life.

Triple Threat is not only a fantastic title, it is how Sparrow, Sully, and Scout live their lives. They are relentless in everything they do in their lives. Where one lacks another picks up and the other watches their backs. Having three of them is a true force to be reckoned with. However, they are also possessive, jealous, and a bit psycho. This is a dangerous combination when dealing with a woman they all want. Can one woman truly work between the three of them?

This dark, disturbing book is soooo freaking good, I’m still sitting here in shock that I fell head over heels in love with characters that originally were so horrible I cheered for their destruction in Winston’s twisted tale. Now, I’m totally rooting for them and adore these terror triplets.

Synopsis:

I’m a prisoner in a prestigious world.

A perfect princess locked in a tower.

My father will never let me go.

Not that I could leave. I would never abandon my little sister. Hope comes in the form of a devilishly handsome man with dark eyes and darker secrets.

With each encounter, I’m lured deeper into the labyrinth. The danger lurking beneath his surface calls to me, even as it warns me away.

Except there’s a new side of him every time we meet. A different danger each time we touch. It’s as if three different men want to devour me.

He’s not just one villain. He’s three.

Review – Den of Sin by Eva Winners

Den of Sin; Belles and Mobsters
(A prequel-standalone to a new series)

Publication Date: October 29, 2021

Genre/Tropes: Holiday/Mafia/Dark Romance

Author: Eva Winners

Review Rating: 4.5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

The Den of Sin starts off with a sinful bang!

Vasili Nikolaev is the head of the Russian syndicate in NOLA, a spot he inherited when his father passed. Nothing he exactly mourned, but I get the feeling that is the general consensus in these mafia families. The tough exteriors and hard lives make it tough to be liked, even within their own bloodlines.

There is a huge age gap between Vasili and Isabella, but that doesn’t stop her from wanting the man, the brother of her best friend and college roommate. While Isabella never makes her feelings known to her friend, Vasili is well aware that the young woman wants him and uses it to his advantage.

There is a long standing feud between their families, one that Isabella has no knowledge of, but one that Vasili easily takes his revenge out on because of Isabella’s crush on him. It’s one he regrets years later, but one that may be too late.

Five years pass and they reunite, much to Isabella’s dismay, but as the story goes on, we realize that escape may have never been possible to begin with.

This plot is mixed and twisted with lots of families and introductions to lots of players in the Belles and Mobsters series that is coming up in the coming months and new year. While there is talk of dark play, it’s all talk and no action, not to say their steamy moments aren’t hot, but it’s not full on D/s.

With some plot threads left open, most likely to tie up in other books, and perhaps I was looking for a little more sinning in the den, this was a 4.5 read for me.

Synopsis:

Vasili Nikolaev.
Dangerous. Deadly. And most of all, devastating.

He’s the king of New Orleans.
Ruler of the Russian mafia and my best friend’s oldest, mouthwatering brother.

On Halloween night my last year in college, I gave him everything. My body. My heart. My soul.

He burned it all to the ground with the first ray of dawn.

Lessons learned. I’ve moved on. Now, five years later, I have a career I love, a boyfriend. But Vasili is back in my life again. A temptation I don’t need.

One thing is for certain. Nikolaev always settles the score.

He’ll destroy everything and everyone, including my boyfriend.

The question is… What is Vasili’s end game? Will he destroy me all over again or will I be the Phoenix rising from the ashes he left behind and take what I’ve always wanted? Him.

Review – Wrath by Coralee June

Wrath (Malice Mafia Book 2) by [CoraLee June]

Wrath; Malice Mafia #2
(#2 within a series)

Publication Date: October 21, 2021

Genre/Tropes: Dark/Mafia/Reverse Harem Romance

Author: Coralee June

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

Love is hard. Love to three men is even harder, especially strong, controlling, slightly deranged men. I need to say I LOVE Coralee’s deranged men, they are the absolute best!!!!

Juliet is literally withering away taking care of Nick, William, and Anthony. Having time for her Grams, her schooling, much less herself is taking its toll. She will never choose between the men she’s given her heart too, she loves them all differently, yet also equally, but she may lose herself trying to do it all…sound familiar ladies?!

Wrath is full of Coralee’s dark humor, which is one of the biggest reasons why I not only love Coralee books, but especially fell in love with Malice. Laughing while darkness is raining down around everyone, I’ve discovered, is my new favorite joy in life.

Anthony and Juliet together still bring the best combination of dark laughs for well, reasons…his madness is weirdly adorable and endearing. He is the heart of the brothers and even with his morbid fascinations, he’s just darn likable. However, be prepared to have your heart a little broken this time around…I won’t say more, but with laughter comes some tears.

A close second to my lovely Anthony is Nick’s inner monologue. He of course wants to murder everyone, he has zero patience, and honestly, he’s kind of adorable in his controlling, over-the-top, can’t live without Juliet, overbearing ways. I know, total caveman, but his growly ways are really hot and sweet in a stalkery-lover way. Will his controlling ways eventually ruin everything? Perhaps, but a man can learn…right?

Now, William…what has happened to this man? Perhaps it’s being stuck in the middle and always having to take care of everybody and everything, but William, my heart breaks a bit for the abuse his emotions take, but he’s not innocent in how he gets treated. He pushes and pokes and asks for the beating of his emotions too. This man can only push so much as well before he eventually breaks. He is the most like Juliet in wanting to take care of everyone, but unlike Juliet, he’s silent about it. Juliet likes his silent moments, but is it enough for him?

This group is no where near their happy ending. Working on their dynamic and how to love one another, all still as brothers, and as one family is still a work in progress.

Wrath is full of darkness, a new villain is introduced, and a continued love story is still flowing that made this book UNPUTDOWNABLE!! Coralee never fails to wow and amaze me.

Blog Tour – Canary by Tijan

Canary, an all-new not-to-be-missed, enemies-to-lovers standalone mafia romance from New York Times bestselling author Tijan is available now!

We were on the front lines in that world, the mafia world.
There was nothing soft or glamorous about it.
Who you were before no longer mattered. Names didn’t exist.

I joined anyway. I had no other choice because they took my sister.
Join. Find her. Try and make it out alive.

Then he won me in a poker game.
I hated him instantly, thinking he was like my other bosses before him.
He wasn’t. He was worse.

He wasn’t just cold. He was dead inside.
It didn’t matter that he was gorgeous.
He was the most lethal thing I’d ever met.

He was also the only person who could keep me alive, if he didn’t kill me himself.

A/N This is a 102k mafia/cartel standalone.
This is the most violent book Tijan has ever written.
Trigger warning: references to sexual violence

“Canaries sing to save lives. I sing and people die.”

Excerpt

“I…” I didn’t even know. I couldn’t explain what I didn’t know. “Ask me about Jake in a different way.”
“There is no other way.”
“You know there is! Ask it in a different way.” I shoved up to my feet. This was the fight here.
I was sick of the killing.
I could not handle one more body, especially not someone I knew.
My chest heaved. “Ask it in a different way.”
I liked Jake. I was hurt by what he said, but he wasn’t on my list anymore.
I frowned. “What happened with Cavers?”
“None of your business!” he erupted, his hands flying in the air, but he was moving farther away from me. His back hit the wall, and he let me see him, how haunted he was, how stricken. He let it all out for me to see and read, though I wasn’t sure he knew it. “I don’t run my decisions through some pussy I like plowing.”
Okay, now I was mad.
“Take that back,” I said quietly.
He swore, low and long. Then he moved, flipping a chair into the wall. It impaled there, and the wall held it. It looked like an abstract piece of art.
“Take it back!” I clipped out, folding my arms over my chest.
He looked away.
I didn’t know what was going on here, but fuck him if he didn’t take back calling me pussy he liked to plow.
I screamed, “Take it back!”
“No!” He was across the room and in my face in the next second. I braced myself, but he didn’t touch me.
He stopped just short of it, his breath in my cheek, his eyes taking me in, scanning my face.
He was panicking.
I saw it now, lurking there.
Good! That filled me with satisfaction.
My chest started pounding.
No, that was my heart.
It was thumping in my chest, getting stronger, faster—a steady and powerful beat now. I could feel it all the way to my toes—in my fingers, my neck. His eyes lingered on my lips.
He couldn’t look away.
Stark hunger flashed in his eyes, and he raised a hand, holding it in the air.
It curved gently, as if he wanted to touch my neck, or the side of my face.
But he didn’t move. He just held it there, a few inches from my skin.
His eyes lifted to mine. “You bitch.”
My heart still pounded, trying to reach him. “You’re a murdering asshole,” I whispered back, seething.
“What?”he sneered. “You want to fuck now? Forget you put a fucking gun to your head?”
“Don’t kill Jake.”
He pressed into me, his eyes wild, on the edge of control. “Why?” His breath was hot on me. He bent down, his eyes glittering now.
Then he found his control. He rested one hand against the wall, next to my head. The other found my hip and slid up, moving under my shirt, raising it.
God. I almost moaned.
Wetness flooded me, and I started to throb.
I wanted him.
So fucking bad.
He bent and his lips grazed over mine, my cheeks, my chin. Tingles raced through me.
Jesus.
I wanted him deep inside of me. I shifted, pressing against him, and both of us groaned from the contact.
I began moving, a slow grind, and he was quiet, grinding back.
This was different from the other times.
The terms had flipped. Roles were changing. Everything was being upended between us.
