What We May Be
(A standalone)

Publication Date: August 16, 2021

Genre/Tropes: Second Chance/MMF-Menage/Thriller/Crime-Mystery Romance

Author: Layla Reyne

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

I love cross-genre reading, especially cross-genre reading that is done well. What We May Be is a crime mystery, MMF romance that kept me on the edge of my seat and completely blew my mind on the twist of an ending. A total, “I did not see that coming”, flew out of my mouth which makes the best mystery books. Add in the sensual side of this already great plot and I was a total goner.

Trevor, Sean, and Charlotte live in a small, university town and while they all fell in love with one another back in college, Sean left shortly after devastating the other two. Trevor and Charlie remained best friends, but never took their relationship to the love affair it was without Sean in the mix. Sean now returns after a  decade gone to consult on a current murder case, but he only plans to stay in town for as long as the case takes. Trevor and Charlie are willing to have his help as long as it takes to catch the killer, but they can’t take the hurt of him leaving again. Lines are drawn, but slowly erased as things heat up both in the case and the past is revealed, but could it be too late to save what they could have had?

Every layer unfolds in the best thriller kind of way. Solving the case takes everyone’s talents and with a killer on the loose no one appears to be safe. I loved all the twisty bends and details added to make this suspenseful and emotional all at the same time.

Waaaaaay back in the day I was a mystery fanatic and this brought me back to a time when I devoured that genre, but those didn’t contain the romance aspect I am addicted to now. What We May Be contained both of those ingredients along with lots of tropes I really love in the reading world. This book is an excellent read, especially if you love reading thrilling books with spicy love scenes splashed in every so often.

New Release – Crashers by Lindy S. Hudis

Title: Crashers
Author: Lindy S. Hudis
Genre: Crime Thriller
Release Date: September 9th, 2019
#Crashers

Enter the world of Crashers! A riveting story of love, desperation and greed.
Fraudulent car accidents is a multi-million dollar racket, involving unscrupulous medical providers, personal injury attorneys, and the cooperating passengers involved in the elaborate network—and who also receive a portion of the illegal proceeds. Such is the fate of newly engaged, Nathan and Shari, whose joy is tempered by the dark cloud of mounting debt.

A chance encounter with a sexy, mysterious stranger, in whom Shari confides her troubles proves fortuitous: he tells her of a get-rich-quick scheme that will put her and her fiancé on easy street. Seduced by the chance to move from hard times to good times in no time, Sheri takes the carrot offered her, and finds herself acting as a “stuffed passenger”—the “victim” in a staged auto accident. The act goes according to plan and Shari gets her payday, but getting out and breaking free of the insurance fraud underworld will take nothing short of a miracle.

Chapter 1

For KXXX TV and KXXX AM Radio News, this is Katie Carlson with your mid-morning eye-in-the-sky traffic report, and it’s an easy one: It’s messed up EVERYWHERE! So far, the 405 South is backed up all the way to the 101. So, if you are going into Hollywood this morning, you are going to be late for that audition. Also, there is an injury crash on the Eastbound 10. So, if you are heading into downtown LA, you might want to bring a magazine or get some knitting done. If you are going to LAX, forget it, call mom back east and tell her you will be driving out instead. Just Kidding! Any way, this is Katie Carlson with the Los Angeles mid-morning traffic report. Enjoy your commute everybody, NOT!

* * *

As the blare of the clock radio on the night table jolted her awake, Shari Barnes rubbed her eyes, blew her long brown hair out of her face, and snuggled into Nathan Townsend’s chest. She curled her body around his middle and took a deep whiff of his salty, masculine neck.

But she couldn’t ignore the voice on the radio.

“Monday morning traffic,” she sighed.

Nathan matched the sigh and put his arms around her. “At least you don’t have to drive over the hill.”

“Yeah, I would just die if I had to drive into Beverly Hills every day to work in a beautiful office.” Shari giggled and disappeared under their thick blue comforter for a few more moments of sleepy-headed bliss. She felt Nathan stretch up, and a moment later the radio shut off. Then he slid down next to her in the single bed they shared in their Studio City apartment, a few blocks north of Ventura Boulevard. The constant drone and rumble of another L.A. morning came clearly through the open window: cars honking, rock music blaring, the frantic scurrying sounds of the film shoot a few blocks away. Shari ran her bare feet up the inside of Nathan’s thigh.

He jumped. “Shit, your feet are cold.” He pushed her legs off of him.

“What time is it?” she murmured between kisses.

“Um, seven.” He nuzzled her neck and she felt him becoming erect against her.

“No time for that!” She threw off the covers. “Gotta be at work on time for once; gotta get my asp out of bed.”

“There’s a snake in the bed?” Nathan grabbed her with both hands and gave her belly gentle nips.

“Yeah, of the one-eyed variety.” Shari leaped to the floor and padded naked into the bathroom. She turned the hot water in the shower to high and stepped in, filling the small bathroom with steam.

She had just poured a green drop of shampoo into her palm and was running her hands together when the flimsy yellow and white shower curtain flew back and Nathan grinned in at her. She smiled back, surprised by neither his arrival nor the partial hard-on that preceded him.

“Mind if we join you?” he asked.

“There’s enough shampoo for everybody,” Shari said as she rubbed her hands across her scalp.

He stepped into the stall, pulled the curtain closed and began to lather her hair for her. She put her hands on his back, feeling the taut muscles and the water streaming there, but did not reach down between them. It took him about five seconds to realize it and hold her away.

“You okay?”

“Fine….”

“Don’t lie; I can always tell when you have something on your mind.”

“You know me better than I know me,” she said.

“You know it.” He pushed her wet hair over her shoulders. “Come on, give.”

“I was thinking maybe I should get a second job.”

“You’re worrying about money again?”

“Well, I have to shoot my student thesis film this year or I won’t graduate. But where am I going to get the money I need?”

“How much do you need?”

“At least five figures.”

New Release – The Holly Woods Files Mysteries by Emma Hart

HWF-BANNER1.jpg

Falling in love.

It can be murder.

The Holly Woods Files Mysteries, the romantic mystery series from New York Times bestselling author Emma Hart has a brand-new look and is now available in Kindle Unlimited!

series-1.jpg

When I returned to my hometown of Holly Woods to become a private investigator, there were some things I expected.

Like my crazy Italian grandmother trying to marry me off to any eligible man, her constant arguing with my mother, three protective brothers, and the best friend a girl could ask for.

There were also things I didn’t expect.

Nonna buying a parrot who swears and watches musicals.

The infuriatingly sexy Detective Drake Nash, my oldest brother’s best friend and my life-long nemesis.

And…a few too many dead bodies.

My name is Noelle Bond, and you might not be ready for this.

The Holly Woods Files Mysteries is classic Emma Hart romcom—with a deadly twist.

*The Holly Woods Files Mysteries series contains strong language and adult situations. It is not a cozy mystery.*

Review – Evidence of Desire

Evidence of Desire; Courting Justice (Series)
by Lexi Blake (Author)

This review is from: December 9, 2018 By Kay Daniels (Kindle Edition-Goodreads)
Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Heat Level:🔥🔥🔥

The story begins with page-turning thrill and mystery. David Cormack of Garrison, Cormack and Lawless is a criminal attorney and called to the scene of a recent murder. His expertise in the field, along with his NFL past are the perfect combination for the case of a lifetime. If only his past wasn’t a huge skeleton that haunts him like a plague.

Isla Shayne, a personal lawyer for the Adams’ estate used to dealing with business and financial matters, knows she’s not qualified to deal with what’s been thrown at her, feels instantly better when David enters the picture, but also an instant attraction that she hasn’t felt since her fiancé died several years ago.

Portia Adams was murdered, the wife to a former pro football player, Trey Adams. The who-done-it aspect of the crime is left hanging until the very end of the book, but I have to admit the most engrossing part of the book comes into play when we see the constant fear David lives with and that this case in particular brings those fears right to the front line.

CTE (Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy) a degenerative brain disease mostly found in athletes is front and center throughout the book. It’s a disease that athletes who succumb to too many head injuries can suffer as they age and Trey Adams is a victim of this awful disease. David, himself, worries with his past that he too could become a victim of CTE and could he end up a shell of his former self like the great Trey Adams.

Over and over again we see how CTE has affected the lives of everyone around Trey, both in a good and bad way. It gives David and Isla different perspectives about taking care of loved ones, but you’ll see why as their personalities about each other emerge throughout the story. (I don’t want to give too much away.)

Even more than finding the killer, the story of living with and taking care of someone with any debilitating disease is a subject that comes front and center in this book. It’s touching and real how these characters react. They have both dealt with loss in their lives and are stubborn (given they are both lawyers) to boot. Their dynamic as they work together is good, even better is when the entire team is around, they are an infectious bunch. I’m already itching to read Noah Lawless’s book, his youth and humor is fantastic.

AUTHOR INFORMATION:

Riley has a long fascination with all things Victorian. She loves the peculiar mix of science, mysticism and innovation that collided in the Victorian Era.

To say nothing of bustles. Bustles and elaborate hats and parasols. Parasols for rain. Parasols for sun. And parasols that morph into swords…of course.

Sadly, Riley has little use for umbrellas in the dry foothills of the Eastern Sierra, but she consoles herself with forest hikes and dips in cool mountain lakes. Besides—no matter where one resides—a proper cuppa never comes amiss.

If you enjoy a little high adventure—and a lot of desire—with your historical romance, delve into Riley’s version of late Victorian London.

Thieves, rogues, and love await…
