Blog Tour – The Muse by Emma Scott

From USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Emma Scott, comes an emotional paranormal romance about sacrifice, redemption, and the power of true love.

Cole Matheson didn’t expect the road toward being a successful painter would be paved in gold, but he hoped there’d be a few less potholes. Insidious self-doubt that whispers that he’s no good, talentless, hopeless has him on the brink of despair. Maybe it would be better to just give up.

A midnight visit by a beautiful creature of darkness changes everything…

Ambrosius Edward Meade-Finch surrendered to the underworld centuries ago after knowing only pain and suffering during his short life. Now, Ambri makes humans dance on his strings, feeding on their desire for his own pleasure. But his liege lord questions his loyalty and commands him to bring a pure soul into their dark realm.

Cole Matheson seemed like an easy mark, but Ambri didn’t count on his goodness or the depth of his generous spirit that wants Ambri just as he is. And Cole never expected to find in Ambri a muse who unlocks his talent and who might also be what his lonely heart has been searching for. Something fragile yet powerful grows between them, and the possibility of soul-deep love hangs in the balance, if only they have the courage to reach for it.

But fairy tale endings don’t come without a price. The dark forces Ambri answers to have been promised a soul, and they’re coming to collect…

The Muse is book 2 in the Angels and Demons series but can be read as a standalone.

Review – The Muse by Emma Scott

The Muse; Angels and Demons #2

Author: Emma Scott

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:
Oh my heart…this story…how can the story of a demon and a human affect me so? This book is written with so much heartfelt emotion and deep felt love, the fact that the love story is not between two humans doesn’t even factor in. It’s beautiful.

I fell so hard for Cas and Lucy in the first book that Ambri and Cole had a tall order to fill with their story, but let me say that this book is true perfection for the two of them and I love Ambri and Cole in a completely separate way, but just as deeply as I do Cas and Lucy.

It’s been a few days since finishing The Muse and I seriously cannot stop thinking about this book. Every character is flawlessly crafted; every trait, every detail was absolutely perfect. Details infused into each character that brought them to life making them realistic to the point that they lept off the page.

I love delving into paranormal fiction and I love the spin that Emma took on demons in this book. The kind of “demons on my back” thought that takes place is a total emotional ride. Ambri a pleasure demon, one who insights lust and desire in others. It’s been his job for a couple hundred of years and he is the perfect specimen for his job. Cole is instantly drawn to him, where Ambri becomes his muse both in human and demon form and it’s exactly what Ambri wants. He needs a soul to take to his superior and Cole is his pick.

While Cole fights off the literal demons hanging around him, he’s also drawn to Ambri…the real Ambri under the dark creature. Cole is a bright light in Ambri’s world, a beacon of hope for a man who hasn’t had any in his entire existence. Cole is so easily likeable and has a huge heart and it’s that huge caring side that draws Ambri to have hope for the first time ever. Can Ambri follow through on his mission or will love prevail?

The Muse is a deeply emotional, touching book full of hope and love. I loved the every word.

The Sinner
(A standalone)

Publication Date: August 15, 2021

Genre/Tropes: Fake Relationship/Forbidden/Fantasy Romance

Author: Emma Scott

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:
The Sinner tapped into all of my pleasure centers and allowed my fantasy freak flag to fly. Emma, girrrrlllll, this book was perfect!

Loving this book hardly begins to describe the immense joy I felt over jumping into this otherworldly story. I’m a huge nut for fantasy, paranormal, afterlife, futuristic, sci-fi, or anything else you want to lump in here under this genre, and The Sinner nestled right into this genre world that was written spectacularly.

Lucy Dennings stumbles upon a body in her parking lot and soon finds out that said body is attached to a 4000 year old demon. When she should walk away and leave him to his own devices, she decides to help him, finding herself more and more attached with each passing day . His request is to help him seek redemption in the next eleven days and he will help her gain the attention of the man she has been crushing on for the past two years. It seems reasonable, what is there to lose? After all why not trust a demon?

Casziel is a mystery thorough much of the story, which makes the pages turn. What is he hiding? Why did he with Lucy, a shy introvert? Plus the demon is 4000 years old! He is a wealth of knowledge, but he’s also a total grump. While Lucy wants to know everything, because…hello, I’d also want to know everything…he’s lived through so much, but Cas is an open book only up to a point, which is when Lucy start to get personal. Hello demon. However, as much as Cas’ demon personality should turn Lucy off, she never gives up on him.

As a lover of books that contain other worlds, fantastic creatures, immortal lives, and what would seem unrealistic goals…The Sinner is perfection in how it wove together from start to finish. History blended with fiction along with tall tales and spoken truths. There is no right or wrong in fantasy romance, probably why I love it so much. Everyone has a place and I love that no matter what your beliefs, it fits within this kind of tale.

Lucy and Casziel will pull you into their world and bring a feeling of comfort that is sort of hard to describe, but certainly one that is hard to leave.  The entire journey made my heart happy and Emma Scott has solidified a spot in my wheelhouse as a fantasy romance writer and I really look forward to returning and seeing what else she will create that I’m sure will be out of this world.

Blog Tour – When You Come Back To Me by Emma Scott

From USA Today bestselling author comes the second book in the Lost Boys series of interconnected standalones. Holden and River’s emotional and heart-wrenching journey to love, redemption, and their happy ever after.

When You Come Back To Me by Emma Scott is now live!

At Santa Cruz Central High School, they called them the misfits, the outcasts, the weirdos. But most of us knew them as the Lost Boys…

Holden Parish survived his parents’ horrific attempts to make him “the perfect son.” After a year’s stint in a Swiss sanitarium to recover, he has vowed to never let anything–or anyone–trap him again. Brilliant but broken, he seeks refuge behind alcohol, meaningless sex, and uses his wicked sense of humor to keep people away. He only has to ride out one year in the coastal town of Santa Cruz with his aunt and uncle before he inherits his billions and can make his escape. Disappear.

Falling in love is not in the plans.

River Whitmore. Star quarterback of the Central High football team, Prom King, Mr. Popular, ladies’ man. He leads the perfect life…except it’s all a lie. His father has River’s future in the NFL all planned out, while River’s dream is to run the family business in the town that he loves. But his mother’s illness is tearing the family apart and River is becoming the glue that holds them together. How can he break his father’s heart when it’s already shattering?

River’s carefully-crafted façade explodes when he meets Holden Parish. A guy who dresses in coats and scarves year-round, drinks expensive vodka, and spends his free time breaking into houses for the fun of it. They’re complete opposites. River seeks a quiet life, away from the spotlight. Holden would rather have dental surgery than settle down.

Holden’s demons and River’s responsibilities threaten to keep them apart, while their undeniable attraction crashes them together again and again, growing into something deep and real no matter how they resist.

Until one terrible night changes everything.

Lost Boys is a new series of interconnected, coming-of-age standalones from USA Today bestselling author Emma Scott, coming in 2020

Excerpt

On the stage, Miller spoke into the mic in a low, almost shy voice. “Hey, my name is Miller Stratton. I’m going to play a song by Coldplay. It’s called ‘Fix You.’”

I let my gaze slide to Holden, studying the contours of his profile—his chiseled jaw and cheekbones, strong nose, full lips. He swallowed, and I watched the movement of his Adam’s apple. Thoroughly masculine. Nothing feminine about it.

“Can I help you?” he whispered, eyes forward.

“It sucks not talking to you,” I said, as Miller strummed the first chords of the song. “I don’t know why. You’re arrogant as fuck.”

“Fair. You’re a grilled cheese sandwich.”

I snorted. “A what?”

“Shh,” Holden said. “Listen. This is our song.”

Our song. Nothing was ours. There was no us. But Miller sang that if you never try you’ll never know, and the words pierced me like arrows.

I took my hand out of my pocket and let it hang by my side again. Again, my skin brushed Holden’s, sending shards of heat dancing up my arm while Miller sang about lights that ignite your bones.

I looked at Holden and he looked at me.

Without letting myself think, I slipped my fingers around the side of his hand and slid my palm against his. He gasped slightly—a small intake of breath only I heard in the darkened auditorium. Then he let his hand settle into mine. Another heartbeat, and our fingers laced together.

“And I will try,” Miller sang, his rich voice hovering in the air in that silent auditorium.

“To fix you.”

A short silence fell before the crowd erupted in thunderous cheers, unlike anything I’ve ever heard. Miller’s version of the song was unlike anything I’d ever heard either, as if he were singing directly to me. To us.

Because it’s our song.

Under the cover of applause, I let go of Holden’s hand and tugged the cuff of his coat.

“Let’s go.”

I left without looking back but heard Holden’s footfalls following. Warning bells clanged in my head but were drowned in the thrashing beat of my heart that felt as it were trying to break free of its prison like it had at the pool. Only this time I was stone cold sober. No excuses.

I pushed open the door next to the auditorium—the back area of the band room that was for instrument storage. Huge basses loomed in dimness, and drums of all sizes and styles lined the walls.

Holden followed me in and shut the door behind him. “Hello, friend.”

“I put in my college applications,” I said as he approached me in the darkness. “I’m going away to Texas or maybe Alabama this summer.”

“Establishing the rules, are you?” he drawled, though his voice was thick and tinged with nerves.

I swallowed hard. “Nothing’s changed. Nothing can change.”

“I told you,” Holden said, in front of me now. “I’ll never ask you for anything. I don’t have anything to give. Except this.”

I wanted to tell him that wasn’t true, that I was the one who had nothing to offer. I shouldn’t have led us here. I should walk out, but his goddamn voice, the scent of him, his presence was overwhelming. My hands itched to touch him, to grab him and…

Kiss him?

My first kiss with a guy. It seemed as if I’d been waiting a lifetime for it and yet the moment was rushing at me like a speeding train.

“Stop thinking, River,” Holden whispered. “We’re here. Right now.” He leaned in.

“What are you going to do?”

New Release – When You Come Back To Me by Emma Scott

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

This is a visceral book of emotions. Emma Scott poured fire into my chest and made it burn both bright and dark for these beautiful men.

I don’t ever recall reading a more broken character than Holden Parish. For a man so young he’s already suffered a lifetime of pain, anguish, and abuse just to name a few. He is wise beyond his years and not just because of his high IQ. No, much of his intellect comes from the hard shell he’s had to erect around his heart just to survive the cruel world he was born into. I suppose some would call it street smarts, but he was born in a world far from the streets, as he comes from extreme wealth, his one flaw…he likes boys…and for that his parents set out to correct his behavior, but instead they destroyed his light. From the moment he returns from Alaska, Holden lives a selfish life, hoping it becomes a short one, that is until he meets River.

River Whitmore has everything a senior quarterback could want, except a healthy family and college dreams of his own. His mother is dying and he doesn’t really desire to pursue college football, those are his father’s dreams. However, River has placed his desires, his dreams in a box, high on a shelf where he doesn’t think about them because everyone else is a priority. River has a dream of running his father’s car shop, having a family, living a simple life, but considering he’s never dated, his father dreams of him playing in the NFL and his mother is a few months from dying, his life isn’t his own that’s why River never pulls out those boxes in his head, what’s the point. River is completely selfless, that is until he meets Holden and his life begins to change.

It’s amazing how easy words hurt. What you are told, the emotional damage and lasting damage it can do. Once you believe words about yourself, they go bone deep and your self worth relies on those truths.

Holden comes to Santa Cruz broken. He’s at a point where he should have the tools to be able to help himself, but his truth is based on years of abuse, so any chance of helping himself can only go so far, even with River’s loving guidance. Oh….River is so patient with Holden’s self destructive behaviour, but River is patient with everyone in his life, anyway…Holden truly doesn’t believe there is anything to fix. The conversion therapy, that his parents sent him to, did work in a sick twisted way, just not in the way they were hoping. Holden covers up all of his pain with snark, sass, and lots of alcohol (which is highly endearing and also heartbreaking), but he’s so broken that I sobbed for him to find his worth. At the end of the day everyone has worth and he felt so worthless.

River on the other hand is delusioned with keeping everything in tidy boxes. He is so fixated on helping everyone around him that he never stops to fix himself. He most likely would have gone his entire life alone – an unsolved math problem – until Holden walked into his life, or more like stormed into his life. He never knew what he was missing until it was in front of his face, but Holden gave River fire and passion and once he experience it he was reluctant to let it go, even with Holden’s baggage. Holden’s needy soul craves River’s warmth and affection. And given that River is a natural provider they were a perfect match. Yes, he has his family to thank for all of River’s confidence and you will love them all, but like his name…River is steady and ever flowing.

While this would be categorized under a coming of age story, this is so much more than that. These boys, or men, are beyond years in experience with what is happening in their lives. This story revolves around addiction, abuse, grief, hardships that many people don’t have to experience until much later in life or ever. Yes, this is more than just a romance, it will touch your soul.
