A sweet, contemporary romance filled with fun dates and a no-string relationship that becomes so much more.

Larson approaches Dane for a no-strings arrangement to let off some steam from her high pressure job and Dane is the new security guard at the hospital that would normally not be the type of man she would date. This makes him the perfect man for not getting attached since he’s all about fun and not settling down.

Larson Belle and Dane Owens come from two different backgrounds and lead very different lives, but could Belle keep her Beast even if that wasn’t the agreement to begin with?

Their relationship moves pretty quick, but it is a no-strings relationship after all. Larson and Dane are steamy and have their own kinks, which was nice to see the buttoned up Dr. Belle loosen her lab coat.

This is a standalone story, but it does weave through the other characters of Bayside and what they may be going through in their own relationships too. It was nice to know who’s who, but not necessary to follow along in this particular storyline.

EXCERPT

The sole of my boot catches on the linoleum and releases a loud squeak. I cringe and freeze in place. The woman snaps upright and faces me. Everything around us tunnels until she’s all that remains. No fucking way.

An eerie tremor ripples down my limbs, and I almost drop the bouquet. I blink, rubbing my eyes for good measure. She’s still sitting there.

Hot damn. Delaney Wallace is back in Silo Springs. The years have been very good to her. Most of her body is hidden underneath a hospital gown, but that’s not what I’m gawking at. A silky cascade of red waves frame her porcelain face. There’s a small smattering of freckles dotting her button nose. Pink splotches decorate her skin, revealing a roadmap of misery, but rather than grief-stricken, Delaney appears cleansed. I’ve heard a good cry can be cathartic.

Mile-long lashes flutter at me, concealing those stunning baby blues from view. Delaney was the beauty queen without a crown, the girl with brains to spare. Varsity athlete. Way out of my league. That didn’t stop me from lusting after her. I was a cocky little shit, but she never fell for my crap. Like I said, smart girl.

But now? She’s staring at me with zero recognition. This girl from my not-that-distant past eyes me with the scrutiny of a detective. The expression on her face makes me believe she’s actually peering through me. Doesn’t she recognize me? It hasn’t been that long. I lift a hand to the thick beard covering my jaw. The facial hair is new since high school. It’s possible she doesn’t know who I am.

Our silent stare down continues. Maybe I look like a different guy. I’m the one to break, cracking under the intensity of her piercing gaze. “Dell?”

Her forehead dents with a deep furrow. I can almost hear the cogs in her mind working overtime. After a few tense moments, she appears to shake herself out of the stupor. Her gaze slides down my body with a slow assessment before lifting to retrace the same path.

I clear the gravel from my throat and try again. “Do you remember me, Dell?”

This time I really do choke on my tongue. “W-what?”

The hand he has on my leg drifts higher. “You sound shocked, Sutt.”

How could I not be? “That’s an understatement.”

“Stay with me,” Grady croons.

“For the night?”

“For always.” His gaze is smoldering. Damn, he’s sexy. And irresistible. I’m liable to straddle his lap and offer him everything. But the chains of our past hold me hostage. I can’t fall victim so easily.

Grady Bowen is from the wrong side of town. A convict for a father and an addict for a mother, he hasn’t exactly had the best start to life. That is until he meets Sutton. She is his happy.

When Sutton approaches Grady asking to take her virginity he refuses to tarnish her. He believes he will only bring her down, he also doesn’t want to lose the only surrogate family he’s known along with his best friend, Sutton’s older brother, by the possibility of hurting Sutton. Right there points to what a good man he is, but Grady only hears the slurs and bad things he was raised to believe.

Sutton never gives up on her dream of Grady. She never gives up on the potential that he deserves more. She is strong enough to never give up for the both of them. She believes in him even when he doesn’t believe in himself. To wake up and know that kind of love is by your side is a powerful thing. Grady Bowen is a lucky man, if he can just let his demons go.

“Why are you in my room?”

I almost wither under the intensity of Grady’s stare. His green eyes gleam in the near darkness. I imagine their emerald color luring me under an unbreakable spell. The golden specks swirling within will smolder from the effort. I clear the dryness from my throat. “I, uh, wanted to see you.”

“In the middle of the night? There better be a damn good reason.” The threat in his voice rings out, but I ignore it.

I study his stern expression, taking precious moments to peel away the hardened layers. Grady’s eyelids are heavy with the remaining threads of sleep. Thick stubble coats his sharp jaw. Dark blond hair hangs over his forehead in messy clumps. His rumpled state makes him more desirable. That’s a problem I don’t need help with. I long to feel the rasp of his calloused hands over every smooth inch of me. The slight burn would surely set me ablaze.

Doubt creeps in the longer I stall on him. This boy has been through hell. Why am I considering adding more unnecessary drama to his plate? A hollow pang in my heart answers the rhetorical question. I can count on two hands the days we’ve gone without seeing each other. Tomorrow will change all that. I’m not ready for goodbye.

After a decade, the memory of how we met is getting fuzzy. Grady stumbled onto our property late one night. He ran to our house under the midnight sky and hid from the horrors that occurred at his home. If the walls of his trailer could talk, I’m sure they’d scream. Grady is broken and battered, abandoned by those meant to love him the most. But I’ve never let him down. Maybe he’ll learn to rely on me one day.

Either way, he’s an honorary member of our family. We welcomed him with open arms and never let go. Grady and my older brother have been best friends since they were nine. Being infatuated with that boy was a beautiful curse. What could have been special didn’t get the chance to bloom. He’d never see me as more than his best friend’s kid sister. That was a hard lesson to learn, but not the most difficult.

Brance’s suit is deliciously rumpled. A naughty gleam lingers in his eyes. Evidence of our kiss lingers on his lips, slightly swollen and red. His hair sticks up in sexy disarray, sections pointing in every direction. I curl my fingers, hiding the guilty offenders. But combing through those silky strands will be committed to memory. I want to do that again, multiple times. But I tamp my trampy side down. For now.

He makes quick work of straightening his tie. “You owe me a story.”

A boulder drops in my gut. “Now?”

Brance sweeps the brown locks off his forehead, erasing more proof of our tryst. “Nah, gotta get back to the office.”

“Already?” I’m still recovering from my orgasm.

He smooths the wrinkles from his shirt. “My schedule leaves no time for deviations. I have a full calendar every day. This indiscretion cost me several hours. I’ll be working late to catch up.”

“Was that a dig at me?”

“Does it matter?”

“Really, Brance? Just like that?”

“Were you expecting something else?”

I open my mouth, then close it. Was I? How could I? Brance smirks at my extended silence.

“That’s what I thought.” He tops it off with a wink for good measure.

“You’re such an—”

“Asshole. Yeah, got it. I don’t have time to rehash the details.”

I rock back on my heels. “About?”

His voice is even more flat when he says, “Not sure what you mean. This is me.”
“You’re acting so detached and strange. This isn’t like you.”

“Listen, babe—”
She holds up her hand like a stop sign and for some reason, having her interrupt doesn’t bother me.
“Did you just babe me?” Her question is all sass.
“Sure did, sweetheart. Call ‘em like I see ‘em. Don’t pretend to be offended. We both know why you’re over here talking to me.”
Her face turns an adorable shade of pink. “First, stop with the nicknames. Second, are you for real? What the hell is wrong with you?”
“I don’t see any issue. You’re the one disrupting my quiet evening.”
“What the… I mean, seriously? I want to sit down and this is the only available spot. You honestly think I came over here to hit on you?”
Her ridiculous question doesn’t deserve a response. My glare matches hers as I silently explain my opinion on the matter. My expression must tell her everything she needs to know.
“Wow, you’re an asshole.”
“You’re the third woman to call me that tonight. Be careful, I might get a complex.”
“Aw, poor baby. I’d hate to dent your fragile ego,” she snips with a curl in her lip.
“There’s nothing fragile about me. Don’t worry. I’m hard and solid. Wanna feel?” I ask and pat my abs.
She nods to my hands. “No, thanks. I’d hate for you to rub off on me.”
“Does the grease under my nails bother you? Princess is afraid of getting a little dirty?”
“Do you get a rise out of being mean?”
I lean against the bar and cross my arms. “I don’t get many complaints. You’re not from around here, so I’ll fill you in—the ladies love me.”
“Pretty sure I saw Barbie McCleveage storm off after chatting with you. She didn’t look too satisfied.”
“Now who’s using nicknames? Jealous much?”
“Hardly,” she huffs.
I smirk before checking out her rack, being extremely obvious about it. Pushing her buttons takes away the tension from earlier, replacing it with a surprising ease. Fighting with her is the most nonsexual fun I’ve had with a woman in a long time. Wonder how she’d react if I called her ma’am.
“All right, all right. You’ve broken me down. I was set on not having any company tonight, but for you, I’ll make an exception. If you insist on standing here, blabbing away, I’ve got far better uses for that luscious mouth. My place isn’t too far away,” I suggest while waggling my brows. My behavior is over the top, but what can I say? She’s bringing out the best in me.
Her lips part in shock. This stranger just stares at me, and I’m sure she’s about to turn away… or slap me. Either way, mission accomplished.
But this chick is full of surprises.
