After a heartbreaking loss, Lulu Spencer-Bennington is on a mission to live her life to the fullest. Dancing her way around the world on a cruise ship is a great start. Tristan Del Rey has always been a natural leader—but a recent fishing accident has sent his confidence reeling. He’s no hero, no matter what his fellow Lost Harbor fishermen think. Even so, he can’t turn away the funny, feisty dancer he finds on his boat. He’s determined to protect her no matter what it costs him. As for anything more personal, the best he can offer is some temporary fun. That doesn’t stop the luscious, long-legged Lulu from high-kicking him right in the heart.

Between a dangerous enemy, family drama and the fast-approaching winter, Tristan and Lulu may find their hearts’ desires where they least expect it…starting with a first kiss before frost.

First Kiss Before Frost; Lost Harbor, Alaska #11
(A standalone within a series)

Genre/Tropes: Small Town/Contemporary Romance

Author: Jennifer Bernard

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

Super cute, funny, and full of small town charm with a touch of mystery.

Lulu Spencer-Bennington is super quirky and totally owns her personality and oddities. It’s her adorable personality that Tristan Del Ray finds so charming when he finds Lulu stowed away on his ship. This couple had me laughing from the very beginning and the story was delightful from beginning to end.

Lulu escaped from an anchored cruise ship birthed in Lost Harbor and hid on Tristan’s ship for protection. Lulu’s quirky personality made Tristan laugh, something he hadn’t done in quite some time, which is one reason he felt protective of her, but that was just one reason in a very long list regarding Lulu.

Tristan was barely back to fishing after having brain surgery and he still was trying to get his footing on his life. Tristan is well liked and has always been personable, but after his surgery he feels…sometimes not like himself. Lulu makes him laugh and she actually needs his help and even though she may be a stranger he feels compelled to help her and purposeful for the first time since his injury.

First Kiss Before Frost is so much more than just two people falling in love, it’s a story about trusting yourself and finding your place even if you think you may be a little lost. Lulu and Tristan share laughter and trust in this adventure through Lust…I mean Lost Harbor and I was laughing through a lot of tears right along with them. It’s the perfect addition to one of my favorite small town series.

Review:

Lost Harbor is coming home, going to a family reunion, or reconnecting with your best friends. I love returning to every every adventure and love story in this world and never want to leave.

Like Alastair Dougal, I fell completely in love with Ruthie Malone. She is stinkin adorable, with her own unique quirks, a woman with a love for books, a seeker of truth and a love for history. Her best friend, Alastair, accepts her for all of her uniqueness, the same way she sees past his grumpy Scottish demenur.

She returned to Lost Harbor with a new purpose. Working hard to brush off all her past shyness, to not be the old Ruthie, she now runs the new museum and begins her quest to seek out the answers to how Lost Harbor was founded. She never imagined while seeking the truth that the little town she loved would end up in a huge uproar. Poor, sweet Ruthie as she seeks her truths, not everyone is kind, but the townspeople also unleash some shocking revelations.

While Alastair originally came to Lost Harbor seeking answers, he’s stayed longer for the people. There is something about the small town and one adorable redhead in particular that draws him in again and again. Even when his past comes calling, Ruthie is there by his side. Their inside jokes are so cute, their understanding of one another, their friendship, everything that brings them closer is so endearing….I truly loved them together.

Another wonderful hit in this Lost Harbor series, but can be read as a complete standalone.

Trembling between anger and vulnerability, she’d never looked more beautiful to him. Her wide eyes seemed to take up half her face, her thick lashes damp with tears. She’d been through a terrible twenty-four hours, after all. And now he’d added to it, which was the last thing he’d ever want.

“You can jab me with that cactus if it’ll make you feel better.”

She looked at it as if she’d completely forgotten it was in her hand. “Excuse me? That’s no way to treat a perfectly innocent plant.”

He smiled, hoping that her joke meant she was feeling better. “Are cactuses innocent, though? With all those spikes?”

“It’s cacti, not cactuses, and don’t you dare disrespect mine. I’ve always related to this little guy. We have so much in common. There’s the liquor connection. The South American origins. The prickly exterior.” Her voice caught and he couldn’t bear it any more.

He strode toward her and caught her in his arms—gingerly, because she still held that cactus. “Toni. I’m really fucking sorry I ever made that bet. I’d rather gnaw my arm off than hurt you.”

She trembled against him. He felt her long, fine-boned legs press against his thighs. His brain hazed over, and all he knew in the entire world was her. Would she believe him? Know he was being real? That he wasn’t playing some kind of game with her?

“Really?” she muttered from behind her cactus. He lowered his head so he didn’t miss a word. “Do you mean the right one with the really great uppercut? Or the left one that sometimes drops and leaves you exposed?”

He looked down at her, then took the cactus from her hand and set it on the desk. Cupping her head in his hands, he scanned her face. That Toni bravado undid him. Even when she was injured, hurt, confused—she kept her sense of humor.

His heart gave a slow, helpless somersault, an upside down roundabout turn that left him somewhere very different when it was over. It left him at her mercy. Completely and hopelessly.

“Both my arms. And my legs. All the damn body parts. You can have them. Just tell me you’re okay. Tell me you forgive me.”

She blinked at him, looking a little stunned. “It matters to you that much?”

“That much. Yes.” Was all his pent-up emotion showing on his face? He didn’t care. He wanted her to know how much this meant. Cautiously, braced for rejection, he tilted her head and lowered his mouth to hover above hers. “Are we okay?”

“I’m still quitting the Olde Salt,” she whispered. The movement of her full lips riveted him. He wetted his own lips because his mouth had just gone dry.

“I don’t care about that,” he said harshly. “I just want to know that we’re okay. You and me.”

He caught her rough swallow, the shift of the muscles in her slim throat. Then another soft whisper.

“We could be better.”

“How? What can I do? Just tell me.”

“Take me to bed,” came her answer.

Mischief After Midnight; Lost Harbor #9
(An interconnected standalone within a series)

Publication Date: June 1, 2021

Genre/Tropes: Small Town/Brother’s Best Friend/Boss-Employee/Contemporary Romance

Author: Jennifer Bernard

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

Fall in love with Alaska while falling in love with Toni and Bash. I was giggling and deeply sighing while rapidly flipping pages over this adorable couple so I could watch them fall in love even faster.

I love falling in love with the town over and over again, but even more with each couple that finds their couple match up. Toni and Bash are absolutely perfect and so is their story!

There is almost nothing better than when a childhood crush finally gets fulfilled. For me, those are one of my favorite and fully satisfying romance stories to read. Toni had a huge crush on her brother’s best friend, Bash Rivers, from the moment she knew what a teenage crush was. Unfortunately, in the ultimate definition of the word, Bash crushed her teenage heart when he left town years ago and he ultimately took her heart with him, unbeknowingly. Toni’s kept every relationship superficial up to that point, but when Bash comes back to town as much as she’d like to reexamine those old feelings…well…Bash is now her boss, perhaps it’s time to take a look at her life and the next phase of where she wants to go. It might be time to unfriendzone some people and take a long hard look at what she wants.

Bash owes a lot to Sally, the owner of the Olde Salt Saloon, along with the Del Rey family. When Sally decides to retire Bash can’t pass up her offer, but more than that he wants to visit his best friend, Tristan, who recently had an accident and even see Tristan’s tagalong sister, Toni. It’s been a few years since he’s actually seen Toni and once he does he likes what he sees, but things are complicated, even with the intense chemistry he feels brewing between them. She technically works for him now, she’s also the sister of his best friend who is still recovering from a serious accident and lastly, but no more important, Bash doesn’t know if he’s actually going to stay in Lost Harbor for good. Ignoring all his feelings and emotions is best, until he no longer can.

Some of my favorite parts of this book are when either Toni or Bash are in the Saloon. The patrons are hilarious, especially when Bash is first learning. They give him grief, in the best way that a small town knows how. Toni of course knows everyone, and even though Bash should since he grew up there, it’s been over a decade since he left and new people come and old people go. That saying that as much as things stay the same, things also change. Toni and Bash are perfect together for that very reason, especially in a local hangout.

I get giddy anytime someone new pops up wondering whose story could potentially be next. I  seriously could never get tired of returning to Lost Harbor. Fan for life here.

Exclusive Excerpt:

She slammed into someone, and looked up to see none other than Dr. Ian Finnegan, his horn-rimmed glasses knocked off-kilter by their collision. “Gotta go. Medical emergency.”

“Oh no, I’m fine,” Ian said quickly. One hand held a clipboard, the other settled on her shoulder. “Are you okay?”

“Yes, it’s just…” She drew in a breath. He looked good. Damn good. He also looked worried about her. He wasn’t even fixing his glasses because he was tending to her first.

She reached up to adjust his glasses for him, but he was in the midst of transferring his clipboard from one hand to the other, and managed to bonk her on the head at the same moment she pushed his glasses. “Ow,” she said as her hand jerked. The unfortunate timing meant that instead of putting his glasses to rights, she knocked them all the way off his face.

“Crap,” she exclaimed. “I’m so sorry!”

He dove to grab for them, but they landed on the floor with an audible clunk. How heavy were those glasses? His clipboard went next, slithering from his grip as he focused on the glasses. It too clattered onto the floor.

“Let me help,” she began, but he held up a hand to stop her.

“Please, there’s no need.”

She took a step back, feeling foolish. A sound came from her phone. Damn. She’d never ended the call with Toni. Wincing, she brought her phone to her ear.

Toni was laughing so hard she could hardly get a word out. “What did I just hear?” she gasped. “Was that the handsome Dr. Finnegan?”

“You shouldn’t eavesdrop. I’m hanging up now.”

“I know there’s something going on between you.”

“I told you already what’s going on.”

“Yeah well, you didn’t tell the whole story. What I just heard was a throwback to teenage Chrissie, the one who always lost her cool around a boy she liked.”

“Hanging up now.”

“You can hang up, but you can’t hide.”

She hung up and shoved her phone into the pocket of her flight suit. Ian finally had his glasses back in the proper place, and his clipboard under his arm, and was putting himself to rights.

“I’m really sorry about that, Ian. Chaotic Chrissie strikes again. Are your glasses okay?”

“They’re fine. You?”

“I’m fine. Embarrassed, but fine. I was on my way to get a hot chocolate, can I make it up to you with a hot beverage that I promise not to spill on you?”

“I’m on my way to a consult, but maybe later?”

“I only have another,” she checked her watch, “ten minutes.” She stepped aside to allow him to pass. “I don’t want to hold you up any more than I already have.”

“No, it’s…you didn’t…I’m glad I…” The words seemed to bunch in his mouth, and he shook his head in frustration. “I’ve been hoping I’d…you’d…”

She saw in a flash that he was affected by her presence. Stammering like a teenager.

A sense of joy seized her—and freedom, as if bright wings were lifting her out of gravity. Without a second of forethought, she rose onto her tiptoes and kissed Ian on the mouth. His lips were warm and firm and fresh.

For a micro-moment, it seemed he wasn’t going to respond. Too surprised? Unwilling? Uninterested? Various scenarios flashed through her brain, then evaporated as he returned her kiss—and then some.

Ian might be awkward in some areas, but when it came to kissing he didn’t hesitate. He kissed her as if nothing else existed, as if there were no nurses hurrying past, no hospital walls around them. They could be floating above the roof, alone in their own private helicopter, for all the notice he took of the snickering orderly pushing a gurney past them.

Review/Synopsis:

Review:
A fun, flirty return to Lost Harbor and the people I love in that small Alaskan town.

No matter how often I return, the people Lost Harbor always bring a smile to my face. This book in particular was extra light and Chrissie and Ian had great chemistry right from the get go making their interactions fun and always flirty.

While Ian always felt awkward around people, he found a great ease every time in the presence with Chrissie. Something about her easy going personality makes him light up and open up, something that he often struggled with on a personal level. Hence, his hiring a matchmaker to find the perfect woman for him and then going a step further, once he finds such an easy rapport with Chrissie, asking her to teach him how to flirt.

Upon returning to Lost Harbor, Chrissie finds a hero, well – thanks to Ian’s adorably charming and spirited nephew, Bo – Ian rescues Chrissie from the side of the road when her car breaks down. Their chemistry is instant, but Chrissie has no plans to settle back down in Lost Harbor, so no matter how much Ian and Chrissie are attracted to one another neither make a move to act on it, but Chrissie agrees to help him and their friendship grows.

I absolutely adored their relationship and didn’t mind that it was a slow burn. Ian’s awkwardness was so adorable compared to Chrissie’s cute chaos that their chemistry just flowed off the page. I really enjoyed his open and honest personality which made her relaxed and open up even more because of it. Between them there were no games which made their relationship blossom and grow and in turn also made both of them so likeable and their story was really refreshing to read.

Lastly, I loved how supportive Ian was of his nephew, Bo. Their relationship is one I wish more people had not only with their own relatives, but with the world in general. Bo is so magnetic and I loved him every time he popped up on the page. You’ll also get visits from lots of old characters and some new ones as well. Lost Harbor is always a joy to return to.

Exclusive Excerpt:

Without thinking too hard about it, Maya rose to her feet and grabbed Rune by the collar of his jacket, pulling him close. “How about a fake kiss?” she asked quickly. “Just make it look good from a distance.”

He flashed her a pirate grin and cupped her face with his free hand. “My pleasure. I’m an excellent fake kisser.”

“Come on, hurry.”

He bent his head over hers, but he still didn’t go for the kiss. “You can’t hurry a fake kiss, or it will look fake. We’re flirting, we’re completely caught up in each other, we don’t even care that we’re drifting on the open ocean. Keep looking at me, just like that except without the ‘what the hell are you talking about’ expression.”

She smothered a laugh and relaxed her face into a dazzled smile. As if Rune was the most wonderful thing in the world, better than chocolate and bubble baths combined.

He blinked, as if she’d momentarily thrown him off his game with her smile. A personal triumph, she figured.

“That’s…good,” he said, a little more strained than before.

For a fake kiss, he sure was overthinking it. They needed to get this thing done.

She took command and wrapped her hand around the back of his neck. Tugging him down, she offered him her mouth. “Let’s do this,” she hissed. “Tick-tock.”

Honestly, why did she always have to be the one with any common sense? If those men onshore had binoculars, they were already watching. To throw them off, she only had a few moments. If the men thought they’d been busted, they might rework their entire comms system. The lead would be worthless. The source would be burned. The case back to square one.

And then all thoughts of logic flew from her mind as Rune claimed her lips with a kiss that sent shock waves through her system. Warmth…sizzle…sunshine…all of it swirled together in a rush of brilliant pleasure. His lips were firm and generous at the same time, as if they were inviting her into his world. A world where she would be queen and he would be whatever she needed.

A kind of exhilaration swept through her and she parted her lips for more. He gave it to her, sweeping his tongue inside the cave of her mouth, where every surface tingled and warmed at his touch.

Fake kiss, my ass.

This was the real thing and she couldn’t get enough of it. She drank him in as if she’d been starving for this, pining for it. Her mind—always working, always on guard—let go like an anchor releasing her to drift on the current. She lost herself in the flood of pure physical joy.

She staggered as the boat got slammed with a supersized wave. Rune held her tight so she didn’t lose her balance. “I need to steer this thing,” he murmured against her lips before turning back to the helm.

“Yes. Yeah. Of course.” She ran her tongue across her lips, tasting salt from the spray and sweet from Rune. She plopped down onto the bench as he wrestled with the wheel. Picking up her binoculars, she focused on the spot where the two men had been.

They were gone—or maybe her angle had changed and she couldn’t see them anymore.

She dropped her glasses and sighed. Hopefully she hadn’t messed anything up by making them suspicious. “Go ahead and pick up speed. Let’s keep going toward Mount Sage for a bit.”

“Roger that.”

Was his voice a little gruffer than usual? Was it the effect of the salt in the air?

He put the boat in gear and they cruised farther into the bay. She watched the little cove as it receded into the distance, swallowed up by the greater landscape of forests and rugged outcroppings.

What now? How to handle this? She and Rune had kissed, and there was no way she could forget about it the way she had when she was a kid.

Maybe never mention it again?

Or maybe do it again?

The tempting thought hovered out there like the promise of an ice cream sundae after a long week. Treat yo-self, she could imagine her cousin Reecie in Anchorage saying. Go for it, Kate would urge. I knew it, Jessica would say.

“Tell me when you’re ready to head back,” Rune said. “It’s your call.” His voice had returned to normal. She wondered what he was thinking about this situation. Then again, he didn’t overthink things like she did. He probably wasn’t worried about it at all. He probably kissed people all the time—all those non-girlfriend “girls” he’d talked about.

“I will,” she told him. “Give it a few more minutes.”

“The other thing is your call too,” Rune said softly, his attention still on the choppy water ahead.

“What are you talking about?”

“I know you’re trying to decide what to do about that kiss. I can see your wheels spinning from here.”

“I’m not—okay, I am. I didn’t intend for it to be like that.”

“It’s my fault.” His voice shifted to a jaunty cheerfulness. “My pride was hurt that you forgot the first kiss. I was aiming for ‘best kiss.’ One that you wouldn’t forget. That’s all.”

It wasn’t all. She could hear it in his voice. It was so much more complicated than that. Friendship, attraction, sizzle…all that, lined up against her better judgment. But even so, it touched her that he was trying to make the whole thing easier for her.

Best kiss? Isn’t that a little arrogant?” She adopted a teasing tone to match his.

“Second best? Third? Just tell me it wasn’t the worst. Gotta start somewhere.”

“It wasn’t the worst.”

That was as far as she could go right now.

And maybe it was the best. Because right at this moment, she couldn’t think of any other specific kiss that might compete with it.

Head Over Heels for the Holidays; Lost Harbor, Alaska #7

Review:

Maya Badger – yes!! We finally have the police chiefs story and it was perfect for the woman who protect and serves the residents of Lost Harbor, Alaska.

Maya has been the stoic background hero who always follows the rules  and never lets her weaknesses show. Waiting for her story has been a joy and also agony. Who would be the man to bring the police chief to her knees because nothing seems to phase Maya Badger. Reading Maya’s story and learning more about her background we come to find out that, yes, she always has been an overachiever and that is no surprise, but underneath the hard exterior is a girly-girl who may just have been waiting for her Prince Charming, or her naughty nurse, to arrive in Lost Harbor when the holiday season was right.

Rune Larsen and his sister Cara have been on the run for the past couple years trying to outrun a stalker that has been making Cara’s life very unpleasant. When a home healthcare nurse opening becomes available for one Harris Badger, Rune recognizes the name from his childhood and jumps at the opportunity. The fact that it’s listed in Alaska is also a huge plus to stay ahead of the stalker. When they step into town and he meets the police chief, Maya, it’s a huge sigh of relief that it’s his childhood friend is on the side of the law and for the first time in a long time that he feels somewhat safe. Not only is he happy to see his old friend, but something else is stirring inside that could be considered more and it has nothing to do with the holiday spirit.

Rune and Maya are able to rekindle not only their old friendship, but new sparks are flying as they began a relationship as adults. While both of them agree to embark into something light for the holiday season, it doesn’t take long for their attraction to deepen into something more. While they both know Rune could leave at any moment if the stalker appears, it’s hard to evade the fall.

Rune’s lighthearted jokes about the holiday happenings in Lost Harbor was fun and super enjoyable, while Maya finding her joy for the holidays again was very uplifting. If you are looking for either a holiday boost or ideas for your own holiday party Head Over Heels for the Holidays will give you both.

Also in case you were wondering, the mystery surrounding Lost Harbor and Maggie, formerly known as S.G. or Spruce Goose, is still intermixed throughout the storyline, but I don’t want to give the plot away – it’s just too good. Maya has been an integral part of helping Maggie since the beginning and you don’t think Jennifer would let that just fall by the wayside, no way. So plan on this holiday season being filled with lots of love, cookies, tinsel, and an old mystery.

Review:

Love At First Light has everything that makes the Lost Harbor series so magical and fun to return to over and over again.

While trying to track down clues to the unsolved mystery of S.G.’s parents (a local teen who escaped living in the woods from a hunter), Ethan and Jessica dive into a fifteen year old cold case that leads them into the mystical woods where strange things tend to happen.

Ethan James is hired to help solve S.G.’s cold case. It’s not Ethan’s first time in Lost Harbor, but he’s not a local like Jessica Dixon either. When Maya Badger, the local police chief, hires Ethan to help dig up clues, since he his a trained private investigator, Maya was expecting to help him out, but she is unfortunately called away. In Ethan’s line of work, he’s used to working alone, so having Maya leave isn’t exactly a hardship, but when the quirky baker, who always smells like sugar and sunshine, shows up and offers to help he doesn’t know what skills Jessica can provide in an investigation except warm cookies.

Ethan is cynical, jaded, and a little grouchy, but he’s also the perfect grounded man for Jessica’s dreaming personality.

Jessica runs Sweet Harbor Bakery and Bed and Breakfast. Her life is fairly routine and just recently she’s been told she lives her life in a bubble. When her best friend Maya has an emergency and has to leave town Jessica sees this as an opportunity to jump in and help out. Pop the bubble and carefully crafted life she lives in to help not only her friend, but help Ethan solve the case he was hired for.

As the two of them head out to find clues, danger closes in and while Ethan is used to the Grim Reaper looking over his shoulder, he doesn’t like it looking over Jessica’s. The intense connection builds pretty rapidly between them while they both experience an adventure of a lifetime, but can it last if they make it back to civilization?

Exclusive Excerpt:

Exactly one minute ago, Kate Robinson had been speeding merrily toward town; one curve in the rutted road later, she was stuck in the mud with her wheels spinning uselessly.

And if that wasn’t a perfect metaphor for her entire life, she didn’t know what was.

She was supposed to be in Los Angeles right now, winning over juries and having brunch with friends—not fetching fertilizer for her grandmother’s peony farm in tiny Lost Harbor, Alaska.

Movement at the side of the road caught her attention. A porcupine trundled toward the trees, half its quills raised in defense mode. She must have startled it with muddy disaster.

With a sigh, she pressed the accelerator again, just in case something had changed in the past ten seconds. Whir. Spin.

Nope. If anything, the car had sunk deeper into the mud.

Maybe she shouldn’t have been dictating an email as she drove. It was a bad habit from her LA life. When you spent that much time stuck in traffic, you learned ways to use the time productively. Which was better, gridlock or a mud bath? At least with traffic, you knew you’d get moving eventually. On the other hand, the view from this particular mud bath was definitely better than a zillion brake lights.

Spruce trees loomed on one side of the road, and a view of Misty Bay on the other. Against the backdrop of a slate-gray April sky, snowy peaks shone like jagged white teeth. Even though the mountains across the bay still had plenty of snow, at this elevation things were starting to edge toward spring.

This was “break-up” season in Alaska, when the snow melted and the ground thawed, and mud swallowed up everything. Including the old Saab her grandmother Emma was letting her use.

Maybe she could push the car out of the mud. She put her hand on the door handle, then remembered that she’d left her mud boots back at the farm. She’d been so excited about a drive to town that she’d put on her cute purple suede half-boots with the chunky heel.

Suede didn’t like mud.

If she was going to free the car by pushing it, she’d have to do it barefoot.

A sound caught her attention, the low rumble of a vehicle coming from behind her.

Potential rescue? Possible kidnapper? Since this was Lost Harbor, odds were on rescue, but she was taking no chances. She rummaged in her bag for the bear spray Emma had made her bring.

The vehicle slowed to a stop behind her. It was a large crew cab truck with so much clearance it could probably drive right over her little Saab. The man who jumped out of it was equally large. His long legs came first—clad in work pants and mud boots.

AKA what she should have been wearing.

Then came the rest of him—broad and tall and muscular and a little intimidating, considering that she was alone in this forgotten spot on the side of a remote Alaskan road. He wore a weathered work jacket unzipped over a gray Henley.

With easy strides, he made his way through the mud to her car. She kept her hand on the can of bear spray next to her on the seat. He noticed that move, and his lips quirked. They were very appealing lips, she noted. Firm and full, with a sensual curve to them.

“If I help you un-muck your car, will you promise not to mace me?” His deep voice fit the general oversize nature of his physique.

She relaxed enough to allow herself to smile at the stranger. “Do you think you can get me out of this? It’s a mess. I swear, that mud came out of nowhere, Officer.”

One corner of his mouth lifted, indicating that he’d gotten her joke. But he maintained his serious expression. “You have to pay attention this time of year. No cell phones while driving.”

Ah, so he’d spotted her phone on the seat next to her bear spray. “Are you planning to help me or lecture me?”

“Maybe a lecture would help you.” His reasonable tone made her teeth clench.

“I can guarantee that it wouldn’t. No one likes to be lectured.”

“I said it might help you, not please you.” The word “please” in his deep, rumbling voice sparked a surprising little thrill deep in her belly.

Oh no. None of that now.

“If you want to please me, you could tell me what you recommend here. Do I need to call a tow truck?”

He took a step back and surveyed the muddy ruts that had claimed her tires. “What have you tried so far?”

“Not much. Just a little cursing and whining and regretting the fact that I didn’t bring my mud boots. I tried powering out of it, but that made it worse.”

“Yes, that would make it worse. The tires can’t get any purchase on the mud, so they just dig the tracks deeper and deeper the more they spin. They need something solid to grip onto. I’m surprised you haven’t encountered this situation before. It is break-up, after all.”

“I’m not from here.” She bit off each word as she spoke it. This was sounding suspiciously like that lecture she’d told him she didn’t want. “I’ve never seen break-up before. Not this kind, anyway. But I’m sure you don’t want to hear about my love life.” She could practically hear the “ba-da-bum” after that lame joke.

He was watching her closely as she spoke. His eyes were two shades of blue south of gray, a surprisingly soft color in the midst of all that masculinity. They looked almost silvery in the misty light.

Heat came to her cheeks under his scrutiny. “Sorry, dumb joke.”

“Eh, it was all right.” He shrugged one massive shoulder. “A little obvious, but not bad.”

For a murderous moment, she wondered how bad it would be if she used her bear spray on him right now. Surely someone else would come along to rescue her. “Can we get back to the main event here? Car. Mud. Stuck.”

Naughty All Night; Lost Harbor, Alaska #5
(A standalone within a series)

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

The witty retorts, the heated back and forths, the punny innuendos…I absolutely loved Naughty All Night and the matchup between the spitfire Kate and the fire chief Darius. Get your fan ready because their chemistry will heat you from the inside out!

There is nothing better than pithy, slightly dirty, verbal foreplay. A well spoken man is super hot!! (fanning myself) Kate Robinson is a lawyer from LA, well versed in verbal back and forths, but when Darius Boone, the fire chief of Lost Harbor, Alaska steps in to help her out of a muddy jam, he seems to up her verbal sparring game. The hot flashes she has around him are just an added bonus and not the fires he actually puts out. While she was hoping to have a quick fling with the hot man, she’s not one for long term relationships.

Darius came to Alaska after his last divorce, he needed a change of scenery since he was now down two marriages. When he meets Kate he’s certainly drawn to the feisty woman and wouldn’t be opposed to some naughty, good times with her, but he is far from looking at forever. Been there and done that, been singed by the divorce papers.

They may finally agree to a fling, but things get complicated when things in the town heat up. Lost Harbor is a small town and even though they both came there for sanctuary, one of them may not stay once the fires are put out.

Wicked In Winter; Lost Harbor, Alaska #4
(A standalone within a series)

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

Wicked In Winter is a ton of fun with wicked chemistry that heats up the winter months between Gretel and Zander.

What starts out as a bet between Gretel, the new girl in town, and Zander, the pseudo-father to his brothers, to see if Gretel will stick out her first cold, unforgiving winter in Alaska only gets more heated when their attraction ends in a marriage with an *(asterisk). So, unlike a fake marriage or one only on paper, their marriage is one with lots of chemistry, because they refuse to deny it between the two of them, but one that is also mutually beneficial.

They both have a reason to need a wife/husband in the short term and their attraction to one another is wicked hot, but even with all of their stipulations in place and with them getting along, is it enough for a real future together?

Gretel is used to running free and never staying in one spot, while Zander is used to rules and running his home like the military. The more time these two spend together they more they take on one another’s attributes and really getting along. Gretel is bubbly and attracts people to her side like a beacon of light and her unstructured upbringing secretly craves the way Zander runs his life. Zander is also drawn to Gabby’s playful side, something he hasn’t had in a very long time, especially since he took over raising his two brothers.

Gretel is very easy to like, relatable in the way she just wants to find her purpose in life. For the first time ever, Alaska feels like the perfect fit, even with the sub-zero weather. She doesn’t want to leave even though she has an * clause in her marriage, but sometimes things are out of her control.

Zander is a commendable man, coming home from the military after his parents died, to take on the job of raising his younger siblings. As a young, single male that job isn’t easy, but that fact that he’s hanging in there to give them the best life he can is a huge heart melter. As he begins to fall for Gretel it may be too late to tell her when he finally realizes it, but how to you contain a free spirit?

Fall in love with this frozen land while warming up with this amazing couple in Lost Harbor.

Synopsis:

Everyone needs a fresh start sometime. For Gretel Morrison, that time is now, and the place is tiny, snowbound Lost Harbor, Alaska. It’s about time she learned how to rely on herself instead of her wealthy, controlling family. If she can survive the winter here, she can survive anything—although maybe not the lethally sexy and attractive next-door neighbor, Zander Ross.

Zander has his hands full raising his two younger brothers. The last thing he needs is distraction in the form of a spoiled rich girl who has no idea what she’s in for. He’d bet anything she won’t make it past the next blizzard—although he might not either, not with his sanity intact. With her dazzling smile and lighthearted style, she’s everything he’s not. And everything he longs for.

When a threat to the Ross family surfaces, Zander gets the shock of his life when Gretel steps up with an outrageous idea that might help them both. Can he trust her enough to take a chance? Or will Gretel’s mega-millionaire father find a way to ruin their amazing-but-fragile new bond?

Alaska winters are always wild, but this one is about to get wicked.

Seduced By Snowfall; Lost Harbor, Alaska #3
(A standalone within a series)

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

I adore the town of Lost Harbor! Nate is now one of my favorite people living there, I’m totally smitten! He’s witty, adorable, and so proud of where he grew up, I want to keep him in my pocket and carry with him with me because he makes me smile. Seduced By Snowfall is fun, steamy and so full of charm, you’ll love it!!

I snickered through this entire book. Nate and Bethany are an adorable match. While Nate was born and raised in Lost Harbor, Bethany just moved to Alaska. They seem like polar opposites with her perfectionist personality and his laid back charm, but where he has edges she has curves and they fit together perfectly.

Bethany moved as far away as possible from her perfectionist expectectation father, but she never stops trying to please him and makes up a fictional boyfriend. That plan backfires when her father lands in Alaska and thankfully Nate, the easy-going Nate, steps up and helps her out.

Nate is the guy in town that everyone goes to for help. Yes, he’s an EMT/firefighter, but his personality is hard not to like. That is until he meets Bethany. She is the first woman he strikes out with, but if she wants to friendzone him he supposes he’ll have to live with it, until he becomes her fake boyfriend.

If you haven’t begun this series, you can pick it up at anytime. Seduced By Snowfall is a great addition to the series, but can be read as a complete standalone too.

Yours Since Yesterday; Lost Harbor, Alaska #2 (Series)
by Jennifer Bernard (Author)

This review is from: November 14, 2019 By Kay Daniels
Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Heat Level:🔥🔥🔥

Yours Since Yesterday blends romance with a touch of mystery and suspense. You will be enthralled with Padric and Zoe’s story until the very end not only because you will wonder if their love really has a chance of surviving, but also if they themselves make it through reconnecting unscathed.

There is little doubt throughout the story that Padric and Zoe get along as friends. Their friendship status is what has held strong throughout the years they were apart, but a relationship beyond friendship doesn’t blossom without compromise. This is where both Padric and Zoe find trouble in their newly found path.

While Padric is an international rock star, with tour schedules, an entourage, fans, etc… Zoe is the local pizza star bringing joy by filling any and everyone’s stomach with fantastic pizza. Her business is so busy she hardly has time to rest, that doesn’t exactly allow time to follow a rock star around on his tour.

This is just one of the problems between this amazing, but headstrong couple. The biggest one of all isn’t even their burden to bear, it just belongs to their surnames. A scandal created by their parents that people still whisper about years later.

So as much as they try to get over each hurdle in their past and just go for living in the present they both worry that they will not have a future beyond Padric’s visit to Lost Harbor.

Yours Since Yesterday is a lovely read filled with the perfect mix of romance, steamy chemistry, and suspense.

Image may contain: 4 people, ocean, phone, text and water

Today we have the release blitz for Jennifer Bernard’s MINE UNTIL MOONRISE, the FIRST book in the new Lost Harbor series! Check it out and be sure to grab your copy today!

It’s a fine line between feuding and flirting…

Ever since Megan Miller arrived in stunning Lost Harbor, Alaska, she’s been at odds with boat captain Lucas Holt. They’re opposites in every way. She’s a city girl, he’s from an Alaska homestead. She runs nature tours, he’s all about big-money charters. He’s also arrogant, annoying and oh yeah, wildly attractive. Lost Harbor would be the perfect escape from the tragedy that sent her running–except for her feud with the hottie captain.

Lucas Holt came home for one thing—settle his father’s affairs then hightail it back to Colorado. So why is he still here? Is it because there’s something fishy about his father’s death? Is it the endearingly eccentric locals and enchanting scenery? Or could it be Lost Harbor’s newest resident, a sassy scientist who’s as sexy as she is stubborn? Arguing with Megan is the best foreplay he’s had in years.

Until one of Lost Harbor’s dangerous storms tosses everything up in the air, and a feud turns to a passionate affair–with stakes higher than Megan ever imagined.

Mine Until Moonrise; Lost Harbor Alaska #1 (Series)
by Jennifer Bernard (Author)

This review is from: September 20, 2019 By Kay Daniels
Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Heat Level:🔥🔥🔥🔥

Mine Until Moonlight is a delightful book! It contains colorful characters, witty writing, the beautiful backdrop of Alaska, and sizzling chemistry between two harbor neighbors (it’s a thing trust me).

Jennifer Bernard has created a wonderful new series where you can either get lost or found (depending on your situation) in Lost Harbor, Alaska. For our main characters, Megan and Lucas, they happened to need just a bit of both.

Megan is running from a past tragedy and hoping to lose herself in the peaceful town of Lost Harbor. Lucas grew up in Alaska, moved away from the small town, but upon his fathers death is back now trying to find answers to his mysterious death.

While these two came from different backgrounds, they also have similar values. Neither would ever admit it to the other, because it just might mean they actually liked one another, and they have this unspoken feud between them. Well…not so much unspoken, because you can’t feud without a few choice words, but more like an undocumented feud. When does a feud actually begin? How do you set the terms? Isn’t that what makes a feud, the verbal sparring, the light jabs, the so called pranks? These two are good at their feuding and it makes for a really fun book.

Megan and Lucas are harbor neighbors, that’s what she called them, much to Lucas’ argument that there is no such term. They park their boats next to one another at the docks and while he has (or more like his father had) a thriving fishing business, Megan’s nature business is less than thriving. Lucas came home after his father passed to settle affairs, which also meant running his fishing boat, not something he was exactly happy about, which he sometimes took out on his harbor neighbor (I love using this term). He also is looking into his father’s death, which is a lot of fun as he goes around town talking to people regarding his father.

Megan doesn’t have time to worry about her sexy, everyone-loves-him-in-town, harbor neighbor. She has a business to run and she needs to drum up business. On top of that, she has a gifted daughter and her meddling ex who doesn’t believe that living in a small town in Alaska is the best thing for her. If she can’t make enough to support them she might actually have to sell her boat and move proving her ex was right. When she finds out a producer is in town filming a nature show and could be interested in Lucas’ boat, she jumps at the opportunity to show them what she’s got. She will not let sexy Lucas take this opportunity from her.

They both have things to worry about while in Alaska and a feud between harbor neighbors is one thing neither really have time for, but they both can’t seem to avoid the pitfalls that feuding brings. Especially when there is a fine line between feuding and flirting. They are drawn to each other like a moth to a flame. Their story is fun and once you pick it up it’s very hard to put down.

This is a great first story to a new series and I’m looking forward to more in this small town of Lost Harbor.

The Rock; The Rockwell Legacy #5 (Series)
by Jennifer Bernard (Author)

This review is from: May 26, 2019 By Kay Daniels
Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Heat Level:🔥🔥🔥🔥

Jennifer Bernard brings everything to the table when writing a stellar book. The Rockwell series has been fantastic and I’ve loved reading every single one, The Rock being no exception. Jake Rockwell was the last single sibling, but aside from that he was also the sibling investigating the final pieces to the mystery surrounding his mother’s death.

Each book, and each sibling prior, added to the layers and overall arc that has now brought us to this final destination. I can tell you that Jennifer Bernard did not disappoint and you will love the finish to this series.

With humor, steamy good times, suspense, mystery, and lots of family time, The Rock is the perfect ending to The Rockwell Legacy.

Jake Rockwell has employed Olivia James, Private Investigator, to help him piece together all the clues that he has (or his family has) already gathered up to this point. As Jake gives Olivia all of the details, you find just how many layers there are to this mystery, but it also shows that if you wanted to read this book as a standalone, you really could. Jennifer does an excellent job recounting the facts if you’ve missed any books up to this point.

As Jake and his siblings continue the quest to find information, Olivia and Jake’s chemistry is off the charts, plus their humor is infectious. Jake is extremely likeable and breaks through Olivia’s high walls with his charm, but is it enough to keep to them together permanently once they solve the case? He would like nothing better than to keep Olivia by his side, but he has a strong feeling that he is seen as just a good time.

Olivia has damage from an ex and she has a hard time letting Jake in, even though he is very easy to like. Their relationship comes so easy that she hardly notices that one is forming. She’s never felt so at ease with anyone, including being just herself ever. Will she be able to walk away from Jake and his family when the case is closed or could she take a leap of faith and actually be with Jake?

The Rock has everything you could want. Sit down, cozy up with the Rockwells, and fall in love with this series.

Do I ever love the Rockwell family! Each book just gets better and better! Here are just a few things I loved about The Runaway

  • Adorable, quirky Gracie Rockwell. She is amazing and I wish she was here in person in my everyday life.
  • Grumpy, sexy Mark Castellani. He understands Gracie and her quirks. A man who appreciates a quirky girl is so darn irresistible.
  • A road trip. Road trips are the best. Besides, who can resist all that late night cuddling and getting to know the person sitting right next to you in a cramped space.
  • Family. The Rockwell’s are fantastic! I love each one and their interaction always brings a smile to my face or makes me giggle.
  • The overall mystery. Between each book, there is the overall plot of how or why Amanda Rockwell died. In The Runaway Gracie is looking into the mystery of if she is really a Rockwell. She gets the distinct impression that she isn’t and that her mother, Amanda, found her in the woods. Not only does this add to the overall mystery of their mother’s death, but with her gone Gracie cannot ask her what her suspicions are. After following lots of clues, this lands her on Mark’s doorstep, or more like his boat dock, but you get the point.
  • I could continue listing all the things I love, because there are so, so many things, but I will let you discover them for yourself.

Gracie landed in California looking for answers to her past. Every lead brought her to Mark Castellani’s Marina. Putting on her best detective hat, she searched for clues to what he might know, but Mark wasn’t a personal sharer. Staying on intuition alone, she took a job as a cashier, working at the Marina hoping to learn more about the man that may give her insight to her past.

Mark never talked about his past, except to his therapist. The trauma from being kidnapped still haunted him years later, but somehow Gracie Rockwell was the one person he felt comfortable around sharing things he never told anyone. He couldn’t place why he did the things he did or said around her, except to say it was just Gracie. She was a light he never knew he needed in his darkness.

When the past catches up with them they just might need one another to face a past that connects them both, but are they ready to know the truth or could it end up hurting them more than helping?

All the family Rockwell charm and fun is ready to be read in The Runaway.
