Cover Reveal – Attachment Theory by Kayley Loring

Kayley Loring has revealed the cover for Attachment Theory!

Releasing October 7, 2021

BLURB

An actor, a model, and a younger man walk into a therapist’s office… They’re all Dylan Brodie. It’s only funny if you aren’t the single mom therapist he can’t stop flirting with.

Dear Mr. Brodie,

I hope this email finds you well.

Your well-being and personal growth are of the utmost importance to me, as a therapist.

As such, I have decided it is in your best interest to continue individual therapy with another practitioner.

This is due to the potential for boundaries being crossed between us.

Attached is a list of colleagues I would recommend for you.

Sincerely,

Scarlett Shepard, MS, MFT

Dear Scarlett,

Cool.

Consider our sessions terminated.

Now I can tell you how beautiful you are and how attracted I am to you.

Let’s start crossing boundaries over dinner tonight.

You’ll say it would be unethical, and I’ll point out that we’ve only had a few sessions.

You’ll cite the age difference, and I’ll tell you how hot it is that you’re six years older than me.

You’ll say you’re a mom, and I’ll remind you that I think your son is awesome.

We don’t have to discuss my former attachments to former co-stars ever again.

This is due to the fact that clearly my only personality issue is that I’m irresistible.

Yours in well-being and personal growth,

Dylan Brodie, W.M.H.T.A.T.Y.E.H. (Way More Handsome and Talented Actor Than Your Ex-Husband)

Multicast duet-style audiobook will release not long after the kindle version. Performed by Zachary Webber and Emily Woo Zeller, featuring Teddy Hamilton, Jason Clarke, Mackenzie Cartwright, Connor Crais and Emma Wilder.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Before writing steamy romantic comedy novels, Kayley Loring got a BFA in creative writing from a Canadian university and had a fifteen-year career as a screenwriter in Los Angeles (under a different name). She mostly wrote PG-13 family comedies that studios would pay her lots of money for and then never make into movies. In 2017 she decided to move to the Pacific Northwest and write about all the fun stuff that she wasn’t allowed to write about in those PG-13 scripts. Now she’s breathing cleaner air and writing dirtier words. It’s an adjustment she’s happily getting used to.

A single dad, a model, and a comedian walk into a bar… They’re all Owen Brodie.

It’s only funny if you aren’t the hilarious struggling comedian who has been hired to be his son’s nanny for the stand-up tour.

Dear Ms. Hogan,

I’m emailing to offer you the job as my son’s nanny because Sam had a temper tantrum when I told him I can’t hire you to come on my stand-up tour with us. “She heckled me at a club a few years ago,” I wanted to say. “She is the sassy little turd who trolls me on Twitter,” I could have told him. “She’s an even bigger pain in the butt when we’re face-to-face,” I thought to myself. What I would never tell him is—things could get complicated. For reasons.

Let me know if you want the job.

With great reluctance,

Owen

Dear Mr. Brodie,

Thank you for your email. Please inform Sam that I like him very much and would love to be his nanny and accompany him on your terrible joke of a stand-up tour.

I can assure you—things will not get complicated. For many, many reasons.

Primarily because Owen Brodie isn’t funny, and he can suck it.

Out of financial desperation and a fondness for your son,

Frankie

Review – Funny Business by Kayley Loring

Funny Business; The Brodie Brothers Series #1
(An interconnected standalone)

Publication Date: July 15, 2021

Genre/Tropes: Enemies-to-Lovers/Work-Boss-Nanny/Romantic Comedy

Author: Kayley Loring

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

Soooo cute with all the snort-laughs and the potential for cheese sharts, p.s. that means it’s funny.

Seriously, Kayley Loring’s books always bring the laughter and this book is about two stand-up comedians so there was a lot of snort laughing the entire time I was reading…the cheese sharts….that was all contained within the pages of the story itself and you are welcome to read all about it and have your own potential accidents. LOL!

Within the pages of Funny Business, Frankie and Owen are a classic Loring couple. Full of steam, flirty banter, making me laugh while they fall in love. I for one never get tired of this formula, which is why I return to one-clicking her books every single time she writes a new one.

Owen Brodie needs a nanny while he is on a month-long comedy tour and while Frankie Hogan may be a heckler from his past, but she is also a qualified nanny desperately in need of a job. What could possibly go wrong?

During this month in close quarters, their love-hate relationship is full of sparks and chemistry that they try to contain within a can of gasoline; Owen’s son, Sam, is an adorable ninja who sneaks cheese every chance he gets, why is this a problem- you might want to reference back to my first sentence; and Frankie could be jeopardizing her future career by beginning a fling with Mr. Comedy Himself, but who really needs a career, right?

Sam is brilliantly adorable, which is another thing I continually love about Kayley’s books, she has the BEST kids in her stories, so if for no other reason, read her books for the cutest kids literally ever imagined.

Funny Business is hilarious and full of very cute moments. It can be read as a complete standalone, but if you’ve read Kayley’s other books you’ll meet past characters and love the interconnection.

Dear Fiona,

I hope this letter finds you well—and by well, I mean significantly less infuriated than you were yesterday. I’ve wanted to continue our conversation from the night we met, but there are so many things I can’t say or do, now that I’m your professor.

As an anonymous letter writer, I can give you some idea of what I have planned for us, once the year is over. As an author, I can share my work in progress with you. Not for you to critique but to show you how much you mean to me.

When you’re done reading this page, destroy it—and then write me back. Don’t sign the letter. Don’t put a return address on the envelope. Mail it from a random mailbox.

Yours in problem solving,

Me

P.S. I still think you’re wasting your talent on that historical romance novel.

P.P.S. I really wanted to push you up against the door and kiss your beautiful, angry face. I will. One day.

***

Dear Emmett,

Your handwriting is almost as terrible as your mood swings, and it would have been my instinct to destroy that letter even if you hadn’t ordered me to.

If you show me your work in progress, I will critique it.

I am currently still too infuriated to write about all the other feelings I have for you.

Expect another letter soon.

Your problem and your solution,

Me

P.S. I still think an overpaid, overrated, overly handsome bestselling author of thrillers has no business teaching creative writing at a prestigious New York university.

P.P.S. To my great horror, I really wanted you to push me up against that door and kiss my angry face too. I understand now that your appalling way of treating me in class has been overcompensation, but I don’t forgive you for it. I’ll kiss you again anyway. One day.

The Love Interest
(A standalone)

Publication Date: April 16, 2021

Genre/Tropes: Forbidden/Age-Gap/Romantic Comedy

Author: Kayley Loring

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

Adorable, witty, with a bit of forbidden mixed in. The Love Interest was everything I love about Kayley Loring with her fantastic humor with a tongue in cheek nod to what’s hot in pop culture right now. Absolutely Brilliant!!

Emmett Ford and Fiona Walker (great names) are both writers, although writers at very different stages in their career. Emmett is a successful NYT bestseller author with his action/thriller books also adapted to the screen. So while he’s worth millions Fiona has just moved to NY and working on her very first book and looking to break out in the romance world writing Regency romance. Oh, and is it redundant to point out that Fiona is in fact not worth millions. Okay, I didn’t think so. Carry on.

Both Emmett and Fiona are at an impasse and stuck in their inspiration – basically they have writer’s block. Meeting late one night in a diner, completely out of chance, they are intrigued and inspired by one another after that night and they are able to write. While they both wanted to continuing inspiring one another, fate had other ideas and a relationship just wasn’t allowed, but hate writing is a thing – right?

Does Kayley ever write a book that isn’t both fun and steamy?  I’ve never been disappointed when I’ve read one of her books and this book was no exception.

We get inside Emmett’s and Fiona’s minds while their writing which is funny. Their character mindsets while writing their own characters is like a look into an author writing their own books. Jack and William are the main characters of the books they are working on and both are quite funny in speaking back to both Fiona and Emmett.

There are also multiple times when Fiona had to stand up for her own writing in the romance genre. I know this is a very common fight in the writing world and yet romance books sell billions – sigh.  Fiona never backs down and I love that she’s fearless in who she is and stands strong for what she believes in.

While Emmett writes very successful books, he, last minute, takes a position at university where his father works as a professor in a creative writing class. This is the forbidden aspect of the book since Fiona is taking classes and Emmett becomes her teacher. Their classroom steam is extra steamy, but no classroom rules are broken because Emmett is always a grumpy professional.

Kayley Loring always delivers a good reading time and The Love Interest is fun, steamy and will bring the warm fuzzies along with laughs.

One day.

Review – A Very Friendly Valentine’s Day by Kayley Loring

 A Very Friendly Valentine’s Day
(An interconnected standalone)

by: Kayley Loring

Review Rating:

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

Kayley Loring’s books always make me smile and my heart glow! In her newest book, A Very Friendly Valentine’s Day, Birdie and Eddie are pure joy swirled together in steamy heat, which make this a perfect blend of reading happiness!!

Eddie and Birdie have been friends since college, but how do you move beyond the friendzone when they’ve both been placed firmly in that friend spot for six years? When push comes to shove, or more accurately, a nip-slip and froner leads to a cross country travel plan with close quarters, perhaps this is the opportunity they didn’t even know they’ve been waiting for.

It wasn’t exactly a planned Valentine’s trip to NY between the two of them, but they both happened to be headed there for Valentine’s Day. With Eddie set to meet his online girlfriend for the first time and Birdie for a Tedx talk, it just made sense for the best friends to travel together, right? The only problem is that Birdie is terrified and refuses to fly, so Eddie changes his flight to travel by train, so he can keep a close eye on Birdie and make sure she gets to NY safely.  It just never occurred to either of them just how small the quarters would be on the “love train” set for NY from California. Will this make things awkward, especially after nip-slip/froner-gate. Never, they are friends after all and nothing will ever change that.

There is so much to love about this book. The texts and VM’s between Birdie and Eddie are absolutely priceless and then the section with Valentine poetry is just down right adorable. Smiling and melting to mush through the entire book, this is one of the best friend to lover stories I’ve had the pleasure of reading. Big hearts, so much love, and googly eyes over this love story from start to finish.

What’s the actual last thing you’d ever want your executive assistant to see you doing the morning after you had hot, drunk, angry sex with her in a terrible hotel room? Dancing around your terrible hotel room to “Come and Get Your Love” like Star-Lord in 𝐺𝑢𝑎𝑟𝑑𝑖𝑎𝑛𝑠 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝐺𝑎𝑙𝑎𝑥𝑦—naked? Yeah. Me too.

And yet, here we are.

This isn’t even the most unprofessional thing that’s happened between us in the past couple of weeks.

The first was when I agreed to let her have Christmas Day off, but only if she goes with me to three family gatherings as my fake girlfriend.

The second was when she caught me belting out a Christmas song on stage in the awful hotel bar.

The third was the hot, drunk, angry sex that followed, but I do not regret it.

And she hasn’t even found out the real reason I need her by my side this holiday season.

I need to pull it together before I do the dumbest, most unprofessional thing of all—fall head over heels in love with the only assistant who’s lasted more than a month at the job and claims to hate me and my moods more than she hates eggnog.

A Very Bossy Christmas
(A standalone)

by: Kayley Loring

Review Rating:

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

This book was exactly what I needed!! Funny, funny, and more funny and don’t forget the smoldering nekky times. Kayley Loring delivers every time and just when I needed my funny bone refilled with laughter!

While Maddie Cooper and Declan Cannavale maneuver around the snark during office hours, because Maddie isn’t afraid to dish the sassy pants comments right back at her cranky boss, things really heat up with Declan approaches her to be his fake girlfriend during the holidays.

You see Declan has found himself in a bit of a pickle with his family when he mentioned he had a significant other, but he’s a bit of a workaholic so actually pursue a relationship right now, just ask Maddie. So when he can’t escape going home between Christmas and New Years for his brother’s wedding, well….he asks the one woman he knows in his life to accompany him. It shouldn’t hurt their working relationship to fake dating…right?

All Maddie wanted to do was spend the holidays with her family, not with her demanding, overworking boss, but when he literally draws up a contract – he is a lawyer after all – it is hard to refuse, especially when she sees glimpses of the nice person underneath the grinch persona he shows everyone on a daily basis. It doesn’t hurt that he’s easy on the eyes, but it shouldn’t hurt their working relationship to meet his family who doesn’t know it’s all fake…right?

A Very Bossy Christmas was so much fun. The holiday puns were ho, ho, hoing, the accents were so delicious I loved reading them in my head, and there were so many great secondary characters that I was snickering through the entire book. Kayley’s books always deliver great laughs intermixed with wonderful romance. It’s why her books have become a huge YES for me and this one was no exception.

𝐴𝑛𝑑 𝐼’𝑣𝑒 𝑠𝑒𝑒𝑛 ℎ𝑜𝑤 𝑚𝑢𝑐ℎ 𝑠ℎ𝑒 ℎ𝑎𝑡𝑒𝑠 𝑒𝑔𝑔𝑛𝑜𝑔.

FROM: Emilia Stiles

SUBJECT: Hello

Dear Mr. Vega,

I felt it necessary to follow up on today’s meeting, since we weren’t able to speak candidly in front of your son.

I was shocked to discover that you are Ryder’s dad. Given that your ex-wife will be out of the country for a while and you are currently his primary caregiver, I’m sure you understand why we need to establish boundaries and etiquette. I think it would be best if we just pretend that we met in person for the first time today.

Your son is a very bright (flirtatious and talkative) student and since his education is a top priority for both of us, I hope I can count on you to respectfully refrain from grinning at me, using that sexy tone of voice, and undressing me with your annoyingly beautiful brown eyes if we should happen to interact with each other again in the future.

Thanks so much,

Miss Stiles

Dear Miss Stiles,

Great to hear from you. My son’s education is indeed a top priority. As such, I respectfully agree to refrain from doing all of the aforementioned things.

However, I can’t promise to stop thinking about that kiss at the bar this summer. I’ve been thinking about it for the past month. It’s interesting how humorless and uptight you are about my son’s totally awesome personality, given that I have personally witnessed just how flirtatious and talkative you yourself can be when mildly intoxicated.

You’re so welcome,

Alex

P.S. I volunteered to be a chaperone for your next field trip. See you then.

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

Loved, loved, loved it!! Alex and Emilia were another brilliantly crafted couple, but the precocious seven year old Ryder completely stole the show and my heart!

Kayley Loring’s books bring me joy everytime I read one. Her writing never fails to bring a smile to my face. They are funny, fresh, and every child character she writes make me laugh, but Ryder in particular brought out the snort-laughs. He is so full of spunk and he’s smart, but he’s also just a child filled with innocence so he never does things out of deviousness. I could read his antics all day long.

As for Alex, Ryder’s single dad…the actual main hero in the book…he is hilarious as well. The way Kayley writes is absolutely brilliant. To be in the mind of her male characters is both like being inside the mind of a grown child, because let’s face it all men are just big children, and also the other half is filled with more or less dirty thoughts because yes they are men. Kayley has tapped into this mindset so flawlessly it makes it so I hate when her books come to an end.

Alex Vega is a divorcee and hasn’t dated seriously since his divorce, but when his son, Ryder, begins 2nd grade the new teacher, Emilia Stiles is exactly the woman of his dreams. It just also happens she is the same woman who caught his eye at a club before the school year started and he hasn’t stopped thinking about her since that night, so he’s chalking it up as fate. Since Emilia is Ryder’s teacher and she doesn’t want to cross any boundaries or appear to have favorites they keep their relationship platonic, but how long can it last, especially when Ryder is involved?

Emilia is quirky, smart and just the right amount of dirty for Alex. She is smitten with both Vega boys which makes her endearing from the get go, but so do her horrible teacher sweaters and her love of color coding. I’m a sucker for all of that. Her friendship grows with Alex and Ryder, the troublemaker, who might help push things along. Okay…can you tell how adorable this book is…seriously, you will love it. It’s a total feel good book.

KAT

Everyone in LA knows that Nico Todd has a way with songs and with the ladies.

What he doesn’t know is that I would love to let him have his way with me.

But my life can only revolve around one infuriatingly cute guy—
the six-year-old that I live with.

EXCERPT

I may have studied to be on the wrong side of the camera, because I am the Meryl Streep of acting like I don’t want to lock myself in a closet with Nico Todd and lick him all over.
I can feel his beautiful brown eyes on me as I walk away, but I’m not going to look back at him. If I look back at him, he’ll think I’m flirting. And I’m not flirting. I’m just a really awesome waitress who obsesses about the well-being and voice and eyelashes and butt and hands and full lips of all my customers. I check in with my other table to see if these non-Nico people want anything else, and quickly glance over my shoulder at him.
He’s scribbling in his notebook. Not looking at me. Good. Why should he?
But praise the Disney gods, he grew up good. I wasn’t a huge fan of that wizard show—always more of a movie nerd—but I watched the first season if I was at home when it was on. I was thirteen and my friends had pictures of Shane Miller and Nico Todd up in their lockers. I may have had Annie Leibovitz portraits and stills from Ken Burns documentaries taped to mine, but I had eyes and hormones. Still do!
I didn’t recognize him immediately the first time I saw him walk into the coffee shop, but my stomach flipped in a way that it hadn’t in years. We get all kinds of celebrities in here pretty much every night, because Beachwood is that kind of neighborhood. It’s a casual hipster restaurant, so most people roll in here wearing T-shirts and jeans, unless they’re talent agency doucheholes. But some people look better in T-shirts and jeans than others. Some people have that glow about them, even in a dimly lit retro coffee shop. And all the other waitresses who were on that shift were talking about Nico in the back of the house. It seemed like every one of them knew someone or had heard about someone who’d been out with him—once or twice. I’ve been somewhat out of the loop for about six years, so that was the first I’d heard of him becoming a musician, and that was when I knew for certain that he’d be off-limits for me.
But I mean, it’s my job to take good care of him while he’s here. And to occasionally wonder what the fuck he’s up to when he isn’t here. And to think about him every time I take a shower.
Because once I had listened to him on Spotify, I became a fan.
I fell in love with the songs and tried to stay detached from the singer.
Which is impossible, because he’s so good. His voice is sexy, sure, but he has this way of singing with his whole heart and soul even though he isn’t usually belting things out. And he’s got magic fingers because the way he plays guitar—I swear it feels like he’s strumming my clitoris. His songs are cool but warm at the same time, like an ice cream sundae. They’re all about women, of course, and it’s so easy to close your eyes and picture him singing to you. Even the songs that are about things not working out with a girl are somehow poignant and swoony.
But by the tenth time I’d listened to every song on all of his albums, I realized something: even though he writes and sings love songs—he never once says the words “I love you.”
Which is why he’d be nothing but trouble.
But I can still appreciate his talent when I’m alone, in the privacy of my bedroom.
I can still have a crush on him.
Everyone needs a little crush to get through the day.

Charmer
(A standalone)

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

I am totally smitten, in love, and CHARMED by Kayley Loring’s newest book!!

Nico Todd hasn’t been looking for long term, but it is said, when you find the ONE, you just know. Nico is drawn to the new waitress at a diner close to his home and no matter what he tries to tell himself (which his inner monologues are hilarious) he can’t tear himself away from the beautiful, red-lipped woman, even when she turns down his charm.

Kat Dempsey works hard at avoiding Nico’s flirting. Yes, she isn’t a complete idiot, but she is a single mother with a six year old son and she doesn’t have room in her life for a gorgeous musician (much to her body’s dismay).

When these two are together the chemistry is seriously hot, but even when they are not you will find yourself laughing over their inner thoughts or swooning over their relationship ride.

As far as Nico Todd is concerned, he is simply adorable! I want all of his focus, attention, and smooth talking charm sent my way. Between him and Shane (from Kayley’s Sleeper book and also Nico’s best friend) I don’t know whom I love more, they are both amazing.

Kat’s son, Tate, is super cute! Books with tenacious, precious children are my ultimate kryptonite and not only do you get Tate, but you also get a brief bite of Shane’s twins who give Nico a run for his money. Kayley writes the best scenes with children so be prepared to be entertained.

This entire book was excellent from beginning to end. Every character was brilliant. You will not go wrong picking up this charming story today!

I just can’t imagine not seeing her for months.

So I offer her a job on the road with me.

KAT

Everyone in LA knows that Nico Todd has a way with songs and with the ladies.

What he doesn’t know is that I would love to let him have his way with me.

But my life can only revolve around one infuriatingly cute guy—
the six-year-old that I live with.

Imagine my surprise when Nico finds out about my little boy
and tells me to bring him and my mom on the road too.

And imagine Nico’s surprise when he realizes my son
is the biggest charmer of them all.

NICO

She serves me coffee late at night when I come around to write lyrics,
but it’s not the caffeine I’ve gotten addicted to.

We’ve got the spark, but she’s the only woman in town
who seems to be immune to my charms.

When it’s time for me to leave for my cross-country tour,
I just can’t imagine not seeing her for months.

So I offer her a job on the road with me.

AUTHOR BIO

SHANE MILLER SLEEP DIARY:

Went to bed at: Late.
How long it took to fall asleep: Forever. I have insomnia. Duh.
Number of caffeinated beverages you had consumed: Zero. Thanks for advising me to quit!

My stress level is off the charts.
I can’t sleep right on a normal day, and lately my days are filled with the best kind of chaos.
My ex-wife and husband number two are filming in Poland for three months,
so I’m turning down movie parts to focus on the most important role of my life—
impossibly charming and somewhat capable young single dad.
My son won’t stop asking questions.
My daughter won’t brush her teeth unless I sing her showtunes.
Our regular nanny quit.
The only person I could trust to hire as a temp nanny is my best friend’s sister.

If Mary Poppins and Bill Murray had a baby it would be Willa.
Fresh out of grad school and beautifully weird.
She hates my movies, and my kids adore her.
I couldn’t sleep last night because she wasn’t here.
Turns out I can’t sleep unless she’s in my house now.
Turns out she’s what’s been missing from my life all along.
If my friend had any idea what I want to do to his gorgeous troublemaker of a sister,
he would smother me with a pillow.

The chances of us succeeding as a couple are about as good as that little indie movie
that I made being a huge hit.
But it’s a chance I’m going to take.
