Bayou Beloved is hot, funny, and full of small town shenanigans. The smile never left my face the whole time I was reading this lovely small town romance.

When Jayna Cardet returns to her hometown of Papillon,LA with her tail between her legs, she doesn’t stay down for long before finding clients of her own. The residents of Papillon may not be the high paying clients she was used to back in New Orleans, since she’s now getting paid in gas, chips, and jumbalyla, but beggars really can’t be choosers, especially when Jayna isn’t the only lawyer in town. She is fully prepared to take on the long standing, and smooth talking lawyer, Quaid Harvey. The man who doesn’t remember she existed, which is bad news for him especially when Jayna is the most exciting thing to happen in Papillon in a very long time. Watch out Quaid, Jayna takes no prisoners, she’s feisty and I loved her fire.

This book is full of so much small-town charm and quick witted banter I couldn’t get enough. While I did want to toss a few mom’s out of town, the rest of Papillon is a pure joy to visit. I loved all of the courtroom; Jayna vs. Quaid fisticuffs and even the out of courtroom battles. This couple sizzled and made the return to the Bayou a joyful reading occasion.

“Do you think he’s going to kill you? I know the man seems scary but he’s not. The key with Big Tag is to give as good as you get. Like fight his sarcasm with sarcasm. When he asks how my broom ride in was, I smile and ask him if he rode in on the back of a brontosaurus from his age. I know that sounds harsh, but it made him laugh, and now we’re cool. I spent the first couple of weeks terrified by him, thinking he was this big bully, but he’s actually the sweetest guy.” The words had been said with a slightly husky feminine tone, and when he turned, sure enough there was a woman. A young woman who looked like she’d walked off the pages of a goth comic book. She was petite, a good foot shorter than him, with two purple pig tails, and she liked black. She had on a black miniskirt with sparkly suspenders over a black button-up. Dark green leggings and combat boots completed the look. She was absolutely nothing like the two types of women he’d been surrounded by the last decade of his life. Military women who kept things neat and clean and practical, or the sophisticated crowd he’d run in when he’d been a spy. Women who were polished and thought out every single word they said and action made. The first he would have nodded and made some simple conversation with. The second he would spend some time figuring out to ensure they weren’t here to spy on him. He had absolutely no idea what to do with the woman in front of him. “Uh, I don’t think he’s going to kill me.” She was weirdly fascinating. And just plain weird. She had a messenger bag over her shoulder, and the wide strap was decorated with a bunch of buttons, one which proclaimed her the Mistress of Code. Are you a client or a new hire?” She gasped as she seemed to think of something. “Or a new vendor? Because if you are trying to sell the big guy anything that’s not a lemon tart, he might kill you. We should rethink this.” It was her smile that did it. A small uptick of lips that let him know she was fucking with him and probably fucked with every guy in her life. Not in a “I’m looking to screw you over, take your secrets, and then probably murder you on the way out the door” way he’d gotten used to. In the “I don’t take life too seriously” way. Like the women he’d been friends with in college. The ones he’d been comfortable with in another lifetime. In the life he’d had before he’d so brutally destroyed everything around him. He should walk away from this woman. He was toxic, and his world for so long had been blood and secrets and death. She wouldn’t even know how to walk in his world. She also wasn’t his type. Oh my heart!! The Dom Who Came in from the Cold was better than I expected and I was already expecting it to be amazing!!

It’s sometimes hard to say that you can jump into this series at any point because the plot has been rolling for multiple books, but in this instance I would say if this was the first Lexi Blake you stumbled across, number 1; welcome to the lifelong club of fans, and secondly; the love story between Kyle and MaeBe begins at their actual beginning, which also happens to be where the rolling plot for the villain jumpstarts as well. My heart leapt for joy when I discovered this treat. Thank you Lexi for giving us this amazing ride!

This is the fifth book in the Reloaded part of the Masters and Mercenaries series and with each book the tension between Kyle and MaeBe has only grown thicker and thicker. Right off everyone sensed the chemistry between the two of them, but Kyle has been the one to push it off. While he was great comedy relief as he was standoffish and cavemanish at every interaction with MaeBe, it only helped to brew all of that chemistry, that is until he faked his own death. As everyone calls it, the worst kept secret at McKay-Taggart, but necessary to keep his ex off Mae’s back. His ex is the villain who has only escalated in her villainy and part of that is to get rid of the woman who has stolen the man she claims is hers. She most likely has crazy eyes…just ask Ian all about crazy eyes.

This book brought it all, a fantastic love story, one to rival Erin and Theo’s and trust me, that is hard to do. It also had a psycho villain that was hard to catch and I love how Lexi creates these layered characters that affect so many different people over multiple books. Lastly, a found family that I want to join at McKay-Taggart, one that is near and dear to my heart after 26+ books. Lexi never fails to combine classic characters with new ones that always bring out my laughs and tears, typically during the same chapter. That alone is one of my favorite reasons that she has continued and will continue to be a one-click author for me.

The Dom Who Came in from the Cold is one of Lexi’s best books in this series. I had little doubt it would be with all of the books leading up to the build up of this special couple, but like I said above, I was blown away with the tension of the plot, and especially everyone that gathered around to help out the couple at McKay-Taggart. This book was epically phenomenal and everything I could have hoped for.

Drake’s attention was completely focused on her. “I think I want to be honest and upfront with you. I’m attracted to you, Taylor, and I think you feel the same.”

She felt a jolt of heat power through her. “Even if I was, I don’t think it’s a good idea.”

“Can I ask why?”

She didn’t sense any threat from him. With any man who hit on her, she had to assess the potential of him taking rejection poorly. She didn’t think Drake was one of those guys. The last couple of days had made her comfortable with him. “I don’t think it’s smart to get involved with someone I work with.”

“You don’t work with me. From what you’ve said, you won’t be with the Agency for much longer.”

“Yes, and you will be,” she pointed out.

A thoughtful expression came over his face. “That’s kind of what makes it workable in my mind. I can’t tell anyone what I do. That makes for difficult relationships. You already know, and it won’t surprise you that I don’t talk about my work. You won’t get upset if I have to be gone for a couple of weeks without notice. I have a hard time making connections to people, but it was easy with you. Even if you’re not interested in me in a physical way, I hope we can be…friends.” He said the word like it didn’t quite make sense to him. Like it was a foreign word on his tongue.

There was no way for her to deny the electricity between them. She wasn’t sure she even wanted to. That inner voice kept getting stronger.

What would be the harm in seeing if it could work? You might get an orgasm or two out of it. He’s not saying he’s going to walk at the end. He’s actually saying he wants to see you outside this cabin. Why not try?

She was a careful woman. She’d learned that lesson from watching her father throw himself into deadly situations again and again.

But what was she risking? He was right. It was hard for her to connect. She’d had a couple of boyfriends over the years, and she had to hold back so much of herself to even have a chance at making the relationship work. She couldn’t talk about what her father did, couldn’t mention her own work. Wouldn’t it be refreshing to have no secrets between them?

“Did I make you uncomfortable?” Drake asked. “Because we can pretend like I didn’t say anything. This snow is going to stop soon, and I should be out of here in a couple of days.”

She reached for his hand. “You didn’t make me uncomfortable. I’m glad you were honest with me. The last couple of days have been…nice.”

A slow smile spread across his face, and he threaded his fingers through hers. “Nice? Awful sexual tension is nice to you?”

“I wouldn’t say awful. Anticipation can be fun.” It was good to know she hadn’t been the only one who felt the heat between them.

“Are you saying yes?” Drake asked.

Did she want to let him walk out of here and never know what it felt like to be in his arms? They’d been thrown together for a reason. It couldn’t be some random thing that they’d met again. She would hate herself if she didn’t give it a shot.

In a couple of months she would be out of this life and might be able to find some kind of normalcy. Maybe it was time to take a chance.

“Yes,” she said.

“Then come here and let me kiss you and tell you how the night’s going to go,” he said in a commanding tone.

Her whole body responded. She moved, standing and twisting so she sat on his lap. “How is my night going to go, Drake?”

One big hand cupped the nape of her neck while his other arm wound around her waist. “Let’s find out.”

The big, loud, and fantastic McKay-Taggart family is back and I love every single time they are all together on the page. This time CIA operative Drake Radcliffe is front and center, but since he’s worked with McKay-Taggart and this particular op is tied heavily to one of their own, of course they are right there lending a hand and lending all kinds of love and life advice to Drake and his beautiful love interest, Taylor Cline.

Drake is looking to finally bring in Julia Ennis, dead or alive. She’s done a lot of damage to several ops at McKay-Taggart since her resurrection from the dead. That’s right, Julia was thought to be dead, but it turns out she is very much alive, and she is also Drake’s sister and was also Kyle’s partner. Soooooo many ties begin to come together, or perhaps unravel, either way you look at it, it’s a dream come true for a FANatic like myself.

While the team is working on this huge op, Drake is also working on his second opportunity with the woman of his dreams, Taylor Cline. She is the one who got away, or perhaps the one that he fudged up with when he let his job get in the way. Now he finally has a chance to get things right and even though they are chasing down the same bad guy or girl in this case, he’s not letting opportunity pass him by and he’s set on winning a place back in her heart.

Drake is one big, sappy puppy when it comes to Taylor most of the time, but he’s also the perfect Dom when the time comes for it. Basically he’s pretty perfect and I love every inch of his character. Taylor is a great match for him on every level and I look forward to seeing how their relationship molds and shapes in future books.

Speaking of the future, or maybe more like the past…hmmmm….I loved the past characters that popped up in this book and the body positivity that always shines through, no matter what age or length of marriage, it’s probably one of the biggest things that draws me back to Lexi’s books over and over again. Her characters are not only bada$&, but they are empowering. Ian’s speeches, usually about what his employee is doing wrong always make me laugh, but he also tends to be right, just not in a subtle way – at all. Another thing that draws me back to Lexi’s books is Ian’s humor, which I could read over and over, but he might get an even bigger head if we let him have his way too much. Lastly, there is nothing more endearing than having that special place for people who feel like a misfit or outcast and Ian Taggart, or should I say, Lexi has built a world where everyone fits in and is accepted. Her books have a way of doing just that and no matter who you are or where you’ve come from there is a place within the big, crazy family of McKay-Taggart.

“Duke?” She didn’t have another buddy. She had acquaintances. She had coworkers. She had fans. She didn’t have buddies beyond her dog. She suddenly realized how sad that was.
“Yes. I miss his royal disdain.”
“Disdain?”
A brow rose over Major’s eyes. “That dog does not like me. And he didn’t like Dolly, either, which is a mistake on his part because she is delightful.”

If he was, it was working, because she was ready to throw out everything she’d learned about him earlier in the day. “Duke takes his time warming up to people, but once he gets used to you, you’ll find him delightful, too. He’s back at the B and B. When I’m not able to take him with me, he usually stays with an assistant. In this case, he’s hanging out with Shep. What has you in a good mood? Did you get to ticket a bunch of people?”
He put a hand on his chest. “I do not enjoy ticketing people, Brynn. Especially not people around here. They’re mouthy and very creative in finding an excuse for not using their blinker when they turn. By the way, speaking of ticketing people, you have a lead foot. That is not going to do you well here. The boss is always on the lookout to upgrade the station house’s appliances, and the money from driving offenses goes straight into his budget. He’s got two small children at home now. He wants an espresso machine. He kind of needs it to keep functioning.”
Ah, the joys of small-town life. “Thank you for the warning. How about I gift him one and maybe you gently look the other way?”
That jawline of his straightened, and he turned on his serious stare. “Ma’am, are you trying to bribe an officer of the law?”
That cop voice got to her. She suddenly understood why people role-played. She’d always thought it was dumb, but now she could see how Deputy Major doing a slow search of her body could be sexy. In a playful way, of course. A consenting way.

Serious tears and a whole lot of laughs while reading Bayou Sweetheart. Lexi Blake wrapped me up in all the southern comfort of revisiting Butterfly Bayou while sending my emotions on a ride.

Bayou Sweetheart brings instant chemistry with a slow burn romance and family drama that is a binge worthy kind of reading.

Major Blanchard is losing his dad to early onset dementia. A sad reality that is hitting him hard as he’s the only one left in his family now that his dad is slipping away from him little by little. This part of the story is heartbreaking and also heartwarming. How could it be both? Well….Major’s dad is a sweetheart with a kind soul and in his lucid moments I wept for the big hearted love he had for his son and the tough decisions that they both knew were coming. I’m still tearing up while trying to write what I was feeling, if that helps in conveying the big sway of emotions that Lexi brought forth in this wonderfully crafted book.

“It was a rough day. I could use a hug, if you don’t mind,” she said, trying to hold back tears. “The oven is going to die soon, and I don’t have the money to fix it, and I’m going to fail.”
His arms came around her, and she breathed him in. He smelled clean and crisp, like a spring wind. Her brain knew it had to be soap, but she associated the smell with him, and it soothed her.
“It’s okay.” He rocked her a little. “I’ve got a friend who is good with appliances. I can ask her to look at it. Don’t worry, Daph. It’s going to be all right. Lou’s good here. I promise. Lou’s good, and you’re going to be okay. I can’t let you go under or Big Tag would get mad at me. He really likes lemon cupcakes.”
They stood there for a moment, his warmth melting some of the ice that had built up over the last several years.
She tilted her head up, and that gorgeous man was staring down at her like he could eat her up, and warm was no longer the word she would use.
Hot. Desire flooded her system like a flash fire, and she wanted nothing more than to go up on her toes and kiss those magnificent lips of his.
Those lips belonged to another woman, and that woman was in the building. What the hell was she thinking? He was a nice man. He didn’t want to kiss her. He was being kind.
She stepped back, wiping her eyes. “Thank you, Boomer. And if you do have someone who can take a look at the oven, I would so appreciate it. You get all the cupcakes. What kind does MaeBe like? Would she be okay with the hugging thing?”
He frowned, like he was trying to figure something out. “I hug Mae a lot. At least I used to. She’s not so huggy these days. She likes anything chocolate.”
Boomer had looked sad when he’d said Mae didn’t hug him much anymore. She hated the thought of this big cuddly god of a man being in a cold relationship, but she wasn’t going to be the reason they broke up.
“Then I will make her something chocolate, and the lemon ones for your boss,” Daphne promised. She had to get these crazy urges under control or she would need to find Lou another place to stay, and she got the feeling Lou would object. “So where is the lounge? Or the gulag. That one kind of scares me.”
“Kala? Oh, that proves you have excellent instincts.” Boomer turned to walk back down the hall.
Those heads were back up above their cubicle walls, and she also noticed the doors to a whole bunch of offices were open.
“Is there a reason everyone is watching us?” She hurried down the hall to catch up with him.
“Because they’re all nosy bastards, and I can’t even complain,” Boomer replied. “I was a nosy bastard, too. We’re a weird family, and everyone is always in everyone else’s business, but it’s not a bad thing. The kind of people who would take advantage get weeded out very quickly around here. Big Tag takes care of them, and there’s usually a lawsuit, but that’s what Mitch is for. Hey, we also have a criminal defense attorney on call. Her name is Lea, and she’s really scary. Now if she had been working the reception desk when we invaded, we might have had trouble.”
She loved listening to him talk. His voice was deep, but every word was tinged with the humor he seemed to have for the world around him. The positive light he exuded was always there in his words.
If only the man weren’t attached…
She shoved aside the thought because he was totally out of her league. They weren’t even playing the same game.

Big, beautiful, kind-hearted Boomer. I’ve been looking forward to his story and I loved every moment of it, I only wish it could have been longer.

Boomer has been a secondary character for a long time and I’ve loved every time he’s shown up on the page. So of course I’ve been eagerly anticipating his own story. Boomer is one of the biggest guys on the team, but aside from his physical stature, he’s got one of the biggest hearts and sweetest personalities you will run across. He’s a bleeding heart when it comes to helping someone in need, seriously…it is impossible to not like this guy, unless you are on some starvation diet then his large appetite may offend you, but aside from that, he’s loyal, kind, and an animal lover to boot. The same question we all ask- how is this man still single- is the same one Daphne asks when she meets him, and that answer requires Boomer to receive lots of big hugs.

Daphne is a widow and a single mother to a twelve year daughter with a genius level IQ. It’s Lou that befriends Boomer first and she’s an amazing girl who fits right in with all the MT youth. It’s that feeling of when you find your tribe, you instantly click. Daphne also feels right at home with the MT women and she hasn’t had that in a long time, but falling for someone again is scary especially when she’s still dealing with her in-laws from her first marriage.

This novella is lower suspense than some of the other books within the Masters and Mercenaries series, but for readers of this series it is filled with morsels of what’s happened in the last book and what’s to come up in the next. I know I’m eager with anticipation for not only the next book, but also for the next generation. Having Lou in this book gave Lexi a chance to really flush out the youth and what their potential will be, not that we didn’t already know about some of them, like Ian’s girls, but they are really taking shape.

I was sniffling by the end of the acknowledgements and crying by the end of the prologue. Lexi Blake absolutely slayed me with this second chance romance that was also full of suspense, intrigue, laughter and passion.

I barely see Lexi’s name and know without a doubt that I will fall in love with what’s coming, but this latest book really touched me to the core. The characters, the plot, the full articulated writing and depth of emotion tugged at my heart in a way that left a stamp on my soul.

Deke and Maddie were high school sweethearts (that could be part of the appeal, I love a good sweetheart-second chance romance), but unlike my own story, these two lovers lost touch for almost two decades. That is sad right there, but during all their time apart, they never once forgot each other, keeping in touch in their own way, through the small town grapevine and various family members, but never once actually seeing each other until Maddie needs Deke’s services.

Maddie is a brilliant tech scientist and while her tech could help revolutionize the world, she has come to believe she’s working for an evil billionaire. With little to go on, but a lot of suspicion, she goes to the one person she trusts, the man who broke her heart years ago.

Deke works for McKay-Taggart with the best operatives in the world. While Maddie may have brought them little information to go off of, he works with the best men and women in the world. However, there are complications surrounding the billionaire, so going undercover to find out if the man actually is evil like Maddie believes, well… it’s going to take a different approach.  A D/s approach and no one is going to top Maddie besides Deke.

This was truly the second chance romance that I needed in my life. Whether you need a boost at love, at life or just to get motivated, this book touched on something that sparked that inner joy or passion that’s been missing or rekindled inside of me.

As for the overall series, it brought old and new parts together in a fresh new light. Long time fans will love rekindling with characters and new readers will enjoy everything that Lexi brings to this story. A wonderful hit!

All the love, family, fun, and smexy good times that continue to draw me back to Bliss and Lexi Blake books over and over again.

This is the first original Bliss book that Lexi has written in a few years and it was like putting on a cozy, warm sweater, eating comfort food, or reading your favorite book. Yes, it was absolutely perfect.

Lucy and Ty grew up together and naturally had a friendship bond, but neither had ever stepped out of the friendzone with one another until Ty comes to claim her, declaring his love for his clueless, but adorable girl-friend.

Lucy doesn’t exactly take the news well…Ty bumbles everything in his life and he’s sort of like a growing puppy dog who hasn’t grown into his big feet. He’s happy, sunshiny and just charges forward without thinking things through, except when he approaches Michael Novak about being their third in a potential relationship.

Ty also doesn’t miss much and he’s noticed the looks that both Lucy and Michael have been throwing each other over the past year and while that might have spurred Ty to throw his plan in action, he also realizes that he lives in the town of Bliss where throuples are more of the norm than not.

Michael is a broken man, living alone with only his rage keeping him warm. He may be the link to Lucy and Ty’s dysfunctional relationship, but he can’t promise anything permanent, he’s been burned in the worst way possible and he can never offer his heart again, especially when he doesn’t have one.

There are so many moments that made me chuckle and most of them involved Ty just being himself. The same is most certainly said regarding the other men of Bliss when they all get together because they are just clueless without their powerful women, but that is what I love about Lexi’s books, while they revolve around dominant men in the bedroom (which is hot), it’s always the women who have the power when it comes to the matters of the heart, home, and just plain getting things done.

I never fail to fall in love with how these throuples all connect in their own way and Lucy, Ty, and Michael were unique in their relationship, whether it was individually or all together. This was a great addition to the Bliss series.

In this newest addition to one of my all time favorite series, Michael Malone and Vanessa Jones crack open body image, self esteem and how it all ties in to how a person projects what they feel and what others actually see whether they are in person, on stage, in the tabloids, etc…

It’s hard enough for an everyday person to navigate the world and enjoy the body we live in, but for people like Michael and Vanessa, who live more in the world’s eye, criticism is an everyday occurance. These two also circle what is involved being a couple in the eye of the public. Love is work for a normal couple, but elevate it with paparazzi and constant social injustice and a relationship seems almost impossible.

Michael Malone comes from a world of money, he’s no stranger to what the media can get wrong, but he’s also tried to live apart from it. Having a career outside of the oil business where the Malone name is tied too Michael sometimes feels disconnected from his blood relatives and the family he’s tried to create. Some days he’s so alone in the fact that he walks the line between two worlds he often wonders if he made the right decision, that is until he meets Vanessa Jones and sees that same loneliness in her.

Social media has given the world a way to project a very one dimensional view of any subject. People see what they want to see and let’s face it, a lot of people are extremely harsh. Vanessa Jones, also known as Vanessa Hale on screen, hasn’t had the best of luck when it comes to her career. Well, she has and she also hasn’t. While she became famous with her looks, those looks also brought her criticism when it came to having a brain in her head as she sought out different roles. For her beauty, she must have used it to get ahead, probaby on her knees. If she asserts herself, then she’s a cold, calculated b**ch and has emotional issues and her career suffered. Some days being a woman is not easy. It’s lonely and becomes hard to trust those around you and Vanessa gives an excellent view into this life that many crave, but perhaps isn’t all it’s cracked up to be once you reach a high level of fame. Everyone thinks they know you, but do they really? Vanessa meets her other half and being with Michael is like coming home, until she learns the truth about why he’s with her.

Michael is hired to investigate Vanessa, initially for Julian Lodge because Vanessa is working for his wife Dani. Michael should be honest and tell Vanessa why he’s there, but once he gets to know her, the real her, he doesn’t want to chance losing her. Where is Ian’s inner monologue when he needs it, aside from the one telling him to wear a condom.

I loved returning to Julian’s world and revisiting a lot of the members there while Michael and Vanessa are visiting The Club. Plus the younger generation, like Kyle, attend The Club because they don’t want to see their parents parading around naked at Sanctum. It’s too funny to hear them talk about it and fake gag, I giggle every single time. AND, the ongoing feud and frenemy status between Ian and Julian is always hilarious.I can’t get enough of the sarcastic ribbing, so many good things in this reloaded series.

While the Malone family has been present in the last few novels and novellas, we get to know them even more along with the rambunctious grandchildren. The growing families is super exciting on every level and I wish I was better at keeping track of all the children, since I know there will be match ups within the McKay-Taggart agency or interconnected worlds. I can hardly wait to see each dad freak out when that happens.

Lasty, since I know I’ve already gone off tangent, while I still love Ian and his outlandish, yet honest, remarks “Michael did what all of my idiot employees do and fell for the client. Trust me. I’ve seen it a thousand times.” As a secondary character, it was truly Kyle who stole the show in this book. Kyle reminds me of a young Tag, so I can’t say Ian isn’t far from my mind or still my favorite, but Kyle is sneaking up on Ian. Kyle is full of the Taggart sarcasm (most likely because he is the stepson of Sean Taggart and spent time with the entire Taggart clan as a child), but Kyle also has a very similar background to those he now works with. He’s carrying a dark secret, which makes him hold back on friendship, love, deep connections of any kind, but he has these moments of honesty that are leading up to what will be a fantastic book. I can hardly wait!

A sweet return to the Bayou in Blake’s charming town of Papillon, LA.

Lexi Blake’s Bayou world is a slow stroll down charming neighborhoods and visits with old friends. It’s a vacation from the intense adventures of her Masters and Mercenaries world, but still just as enjoyable. The characters are well written and the entire plot is flushed out. It’s a place I enjoy revisiting time and again.

Papillon is a small town where everyone knows everyone, but in times of need they all rally together to lend a helping hand. It is certainly how Rene became so close to Sylvie’s family growing up even given their economic differences, in a town their size those differences didn’t matter in the eyes of children looking to play. As time wore on Sylvie developed a huge crush on Rene, but their age difference allowed them to grow apart, now with time and distance out of the way there is nothing holding them back aside from a cavern of years between them. They have to learn about each other all over again, but this time there is a ticking time clock working against them. Rene now has to marry to save his company and time is literally not on his side. When will they ever get a break?

It took a little bit to jump into the chemistry between Rene and Sylvie, but once they clicked the story really took off. I’m not talking about heat between the sheets either, I’m talking about their spark, their flirting, their mutual “I want you, but I can’t have you” vibe. It was like the zipper was off track at first, but it didn’t take long before they became unstuck and then zipped together, if that analogy makes sense.

There is a bit of a mystery that goes along with this story. The element of “who is behind the mask” is always fun to figure out while the characters are sorting out their feelings for one another. A sweet romance, with a bit of intrigue, to add to any summer reading.

What the hell was she doing? 

Tessa glanced down at her watch. She was standing in front of her building ten minutes early, and there was a big part of her that wanted him to be late. Really late. Annoyingly late. 

There had to be something about the man that wasn’t perfect beyond his connection to her employer. 

She’d come down when she realized if she stayed inside one minute more she was going to decide to change again. Because she’d been halfway to convincing herself that she could do a fine job as a bodyguard in that curve-hugging dress that gave her so much confidence. Lots of bodyguards wore four-inch heels and a push-up bra. Yeah, sure they did. 

Coming down here had saved her so much discomfort because in her line of business, slacks, a sensible shirt and shoes, and a blazer were the only way to go. The blazer hid her shoulder holster in a way that off-the-shoulder sex dress never would. And she didn’t care that Hollywood assassins could stuff any number of weapons between their thighs. Hers did not work that way. 

It’s not a big deal.

The words David had said haunted her. What did that mean? It’s not a big deal. It had felt like a big deal. Not texting that smart hottie back had been a big fucking deal to her. She’d agonized over it, and he’d just kind of let it wash over him. He’d taken his shot and moved on. She had thought of nothing but him for weeks. 

Or he was saving face by playing it cool and she was being ridiculous. The man was making this easy on her and she was inwardly complaining that he wasn’t making it harder. It was perverse, but then she had deeply conflicted feelings about David. 

Feelings she could maybe work out over the course of this week. She could get to know him and then she would see he wasn’t as perfect as he seemed to be.
