BLURB

He burns for her. Lucky for him, she likes to play with fire. . .

My name is Eddie Rosas, but everyone calls me Trouble. Since I got out of prison six months ago, I’ve had one goal: find my father, whatever the cost. My older brother says I need to move on. He also wants me to leave our gang, East Side Hollenbeck, and go straight, but I can’t—not until I uncover the truth about our family and its missing piece.

One problem? I’m distracted. My distraction’s name is Carmen Centeno. Smart, passionate, and tough as hell, Carmen is a woman from the neighborhood who’s built her career as one of the city’s top chefs. She’s a master of creating pleasure both in and out of bed. But when our connection deepens, how can I show her I’m not the trash everyone says I am?

The pressure’s rising. Carmen deserves a man she can depend on. And when the ghosts of my past rise up, I’ll have to outsmart them—or lose my shot at a future with the only woman who believes in me.

The Rosas brothers will return in Tanked!

New Release – Thirsty

BLURB

A gangster hiding from his past. A single mom fighting for her future. Can she show this bad boy the man he’s meant to be?

My name is Salvador Rosas. Back in the barrio, my past is written on the walls: ESHB. Short for East Side Hollenbeck, my father’s gang—my gang. Hell, it’s a family tradition, one that sent both my brothers away. They used to call me “Ghost” because I haunted people’s dreams. Now I’ve got nothing going for me except a hipster gringo mentoring me in a new career. An ex-con making craft beer? No mames.

Still, people in this neighborhood look out for one another. That’s how I became Vanessa Velasco’s unwelcome tenant. Chiquita pero picosa. She’s little, but with curves so sweet they’re dangerous. I remember Vanessa from the old days, the straight-A student with big plans. Plans that were derailed by another kid stupid enough to think he was bulletproof. Now Vanessa knows better than to believe in empty promises. There’s fire in her . . . and if I touch her, I might get burned.

I’m trying everything I can to go straight. But when East Side Hollenbeck comes calling, I might have to risk it all to find out if there’s a future for Vanessa and me. Because she’s the only one who can quench my thirst for something real.

Who’s Thirsty For A Book to Fall in Love With?

Thirsty; An Eastside Brewery Novel #1 (Series)
by Mia Hopkins (Author)

This review is from: March 5, 2018 By Kay Daniels (eBook-Goodreads)
Rating:⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Heat Level:🔥🔥🔥🔥

I’ve read Mia Hopkins before and I’ve never been disappointed. Her writing is rich, touching, picks you right up and places you in the heart of whatever setting she has created. You are there tasting, smelling, and experiencing every sense right along with the characters.

Thirsty is no different.

What is new, that I haven’t read from her before, is darkness, grit, and a raw heartfelt understanding for a population (whether you are white, black, latino, or purple-speckled alien) that is affected by gang living, prison life, and poverty. What I like about this story is that Mia doesn’t romanticize the reality of what Salvador went through nor does she give him a puffed up reality of what life after prison is like nor a huge ego to contend with. It makes him a very likeable character and understandable as to why Vanessa falls for him.

Salvador “Ghost” Rosas recently was released from prison. Five years he spent in jail. Five years he had time to think about what he wanted to do when he got out. The reality of being released, a convicted felon didn’t leave many options, but Sal took any job he could.

With little time to eat or sleep, he works multiple jobs and saves every penny. For the first time in his life he is earning a respectable living. It’s hard work, but it’s honest.

How did Salvador “Ghost” Rosas end up in jail? Like his father and most of the youth in his neighborhood, he was part of ESHB, East Side Hollenbeck, a gang. Following orders and bringing in bank he didn’t question much until he lost five years of his life. Now Sal is scraping together enough money to put down a down payment on an apartment so when his brother is released from jail he’ll have a place for them both. Yes, it seems the Rosas are an unlucky family as you will find out his father didn’t fair well either.

Until Sal can afford a place of his own he finds cheap housing staying in Vanessa Velasco’s garage. Which turns out to be both pleasure and torture at the same time. She is an ex-gang member’s girl so she knows all about the trouble Ghost was in. Even with his past it doesn’t seem to sway the attraction that arise between the two.

With their future on the line it’s only a matter of time before Ghost’s past comes to call.

2016 Recap, The Best Of

6eef8950-7e5f-4632-a4b3-8b5de19ec875

2016 is almost at a close and I like to take a moment to reflect and look back at my reading list. It’s a chance to remember the books I’ve read sort of like reminiscing with a good friend.

I smile when I see a book I absolutely loved and want to crack open again. I cringe when I see a title I struggled to get through. I kick myself when I see an author I wanted to read more of and didn’t get around to doing yet.

So, without further ado, let me get to the 2016 recap.

1. The perfect writing duo.
The Perfect Gentleman’s Club (series) by Shayla Black and Lexi Blake.

img_0021

Murder, mystery, sex, scandal. It was the perfect way to begin 2016. Scandal Never Sleeps, the first book in The Perfect Gentleman’s Club series is well crafted and written by two of the best authors on the market. Put them together and you have the perfect writing duo. They put out 3 books in the series this past year and I hope more come from this dynamic duo.

2. The Best Romance Novel
Stuck Up Suit by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward.

517Vnflaf5L

Stuck up Suit hit every list as the #1 romance read for 2016 for a good reason. Here is the synopsis:

Hot guy in a suit loses his phone on the morning commute train ride. A good samaritan (or woman who had been ogling him when he dropped it) goes out of her way to return it. Hot-suit is an ass and won’t see her or thank her for going out of her way, but hot-stuck-up suit didn’t expect an obscene gesture pic left on his phone that just happened to be well placed between ample bosoms. Good samaritan never expected him to reach out to her and she also never expected him to be anything but a stuck-up suit, but then sometimes opposites attract when best laid plans aren’t taken.

It is such a good read. I can’t recommend it enough.

3. My huge girl crush of the year:
Helena Hunting (especially Violet)

Early summer I found a wonderful book, Pucked, and I was instantly hooked. It lead me to read everything I could find that Helena had published, which for this year was a total of 13 books/novellas. I tend to get a little obsessed when I develop a new author crush. If you haven’t found Hunting’s work yet, I suggest you go right away and buy everything. NOW. You won’t regret it.

4. My new favorite-discovered-author-to-keep-watching (or reading) in 2017:
Mia Hopkins

Mia found me and asked if I’d read and review one of her books. As much as I love discovering and adding new authors to my reading list, it is also a big responsibility to give honest feedback to an author when they ask for reviews. I cannot thank her enough for introducing me to her books. I love getting sucked into her amazing worlds and always hate to leave. Make sure you check out everything Mia has to offer.

5.  I’ll be ending 2016 with a few more reviews, so this isn’t the end, quite yet, because we all know this feeling…

Stay tuned as those reviews will be coming soon.

Until then, have a great holiday season and thank you for tuning in.

Keep reading, keep writing and good fortune.

So Many Things to Love About This Book

img_9990

Hollywood Honkytonk; Kings of California #2 (Series)
by Mia Hopkins (Author)

This review is from: December 10, 2016 By Kay Daniels (eBook Edition-Goodreads)

You will be transported directly into the heart of LA, Hollywood and everything Orange County has to offer when you jump into the wonderful world of Mia Hopkins. Mia’s talent to bring the world alive, to transport you so vividly to the surroundings her characters live in, you’ll feel as if you’ve experienced the wind whipping through your hair after driving along the coastline and tasted the salt upon your tongue after swimming in the ocean.

Mia’s descriptive writing isn’t the only reason why you should fall in love with her work. Her talent for writing characters that deal with everyday problems will melt your heart, most likely steam up your late night reading, and well, you just can’t help but root for them to fall in love.

Jack Lamont left Oleander ten years ago and set out to make it big in Hollywood. With hard work and a bit of luck, Jack’s fame was rising and he was the newest face walking the red carpets. However, he was done with partying and one night stands he wanted something more. He just wasn’t sure what. Something was missing in his life and he couldn’t place it until that something literally tripped him and ran back into his life. He was never more thankful to a distracted dog than he was when it forced Riley back into his life.

Riley Rodriguez had the opportunity to leave Oleander with Jack ten years ago, but family obligations kept her from doing what her heart wanted. Now a decade had passed, yet it had felt more like a lifetime. Saddled with an ugly divorce, no career, no family, and no money she had nothing to offer a Hollywood hunk like Jack. Starting over was hard enough, but starting over when the Hollywood ragmags watch your every move was torture.

Jack and Riley were high school friends, never lovers. When they meet again after a decade of changes and experiences, they meet on an entirely different plane. They are still friends, but a new sexual tension exists that didn’t exist before. With paparazzi following their every move, is this really the life Riley is ready for? Can Jack be the man for Riley and be the leading man for everyone else?

There are so many things to love about this book, but probably among my top favorite is how real the characters are. Jack may be a movie star, but he never once comes across as a pompous, entitled ass and Riley never looked at him or treated him like he was a movie star. When they were together they were just two people who had a basis of friendship that boiled and evolved into a blazing inferno of passion. That made this an exciting, page-turning read.

For some reason my mind conjured up Efron. Watch the new Baywatch trailers to see a very ripped Efron (drool) and think of Jack, especially when you need a fix of book boyfriend.

Hollywood Honkytonk releases January 13, 2017 available in eBook or print wherever books are sold.

A Gem of a Read

Cowboy Rising (Cowboy Cocktail-Series)
by Mia Hopkins (Author)

This review is from: November 16,2016 By Kay Daniels (eReader Edition-Goodreads)

There was no predictably with Cowboy Rising, it was a complete breath of fresh air. A true gem of a read.

Georgia Meyers is a journalist who has never set down roots.  Growing up with her father in the military made sure she never stayed in one spot for long, but meeting a hot…headed rancher might make her rethink about her nomad lifestyle.

Daniel MacKinnon is a rancher who’s family roots run so deep he sometimes feels strangled by them. His dreams of ever leaving the ranch are a distant memory, that is until he meets a quick tongued reporter.

Daniel and Georgia couldn’t be more different. That is until they give into their instant attraction. They quickly discover their differences make them feel more at home together then when they try to stay apart.

Cowboy Rising is not only a beautiful story, that you won’t be able to put down, but it will also sizzle in your hands when Daniel and Georgia finally succumb to their desires.

Mia Hopkins is an amazing writer. You will fall in love with the rich text of this story. For instance, as Georgia sifts through the sand while sitting on the beach you will actually feel the granules of sand slipping through your own fingers. Every touch, every breath, every moment you will experience it firsthand.

Cowboy Rising is a lush read that I challenge you to put down before you’ve finished it cover to cover. I was transported into Mia Hopkins’ world and I didn’t want to leave. My one complaint is that the story could have been longer, but that is a huge compliment to the writer.

Life is Short, Find Your Luck-y Love

Cowboy Karma  (Cowboy Cocktail Series)
This review is from: September 22,2016 By Kay Daniels (Kindle Edition-Goodreads)

by Mia Hopkins (Author)

This was a first Mia Hopkins read for me. I love Cowboys and the plot of the book piqued my interest. Cowboy Karma here I come….

Harmony Santos has one of the crappiest days she’s ever known. On her birthday she is dumped by her long time boyfriend who also happens to be a doctor where she is employed. Can you say bonus? Taking pity upon her sad state her sister, Melody (I love the names of the Santos sisters) invites her out for drinks. Harmony takes her up on this offer forgetting that her sister is happily married along with all the other happy couples that are out enjoying themselves. That was candle on the crap cake of her birthday. Single, miserable, surrounded by jovial wedded bliss Harmony felt she was being punished. That was until she ran into one hot, sexy cowboy.

Lucky Garcia has had a crush on Harmony for as long as he can remember, he just wasn’t prepared to actually have to opportunity to make his fantasy dream girl come to life. Life hadn’t been easy for him or his family, but he worked hard and if there was one thing he was good at, it was loving someone. He was faithful, loved his family and he knew when he fell in love with “the one” he would love her hard. On the rodeo circuit he had yet to make it big. He had to provide for his family and he wanted Harmony, but he worried if he could be enough for her.

Life is short, there is never a good time for anything. Don’t be afraid to give. Don’t be afraid to say what’s in your heart. Don’t ever be afraid to love. (My favorite paraphrase ever.)

I really enjoyed the story that developed between Lucky and Harmony, watching the characters grow, but the book could have been longer. I would have loved to have known even more about Harmony’s life and work, perhaps some uncomfortableness at work around her ex.

Mia has an excellent voice for her characters so I was definitely craving more. With that being said, when I began reading Cowboy Karma I was unaware that it was part of a series. You can pick this book up and read it as a standalone and not feel like you’re missing out on the punchline, I did. You could also go back and read the first books in the series before picking up this one. I enjoyed it so I will be looking for other Mia Hopkins titles.
