Excerpt

I’ve always had an inkling that Nate has wanted more from me, and it’s become more and more apparent lately, but me and Nate? That can never happen. Nate’s Godiva chocolate and I’m just regular old Hershey. Nate’s Armani and I’m Walmart brand on a good day. He’s pure class and I’m just white trash. I’ll never let myself dull his shine. And now that we’re adults, Nate’s on one side of the law and I’m on the other. Too many things stand between me and the man of my dreams. I try to make an effort to take shallow breaths so I don’t draw in too much of his manly scent, but it’s no damn use. His smell assaults my senses, making me feel loopy and lightheaded. My insides warm, and the whole thing pisses me off. What did he do today? Roll around in oranges and manliness before he picked me up? He smells ridiculous. “Crack a damn window, Nate. It’s stifling in here,” I snap out. Nate shoots a panty-melting smile my way like he knows what his smell does to me before saying, “Till, show some respect to the uniform. It’s Officer Trent.” His lips twitch in a barely there smile. His bicep flexes as he grips the steering wheel to make a left turn, and I blush, thinking of all the ways I want to respect the hell out of that uniform. You know? With me under him. Me over him. Me on my knees in front of him. I smile. If he only knew how much I respected that uniform. God, get your shit together, Tillie. Stop thinking about the hot cop you’re in love with and figure out how to get the hell out of this car. I cannot let Nate take me down to the station. It’s unfortunate, this whole bounced-check situation. It really is, but it truly was unavoidable. I think of my good-for-nothing mother and roll my eyes. I’ve got to figure out another way to keep paying her debts off, because cleaning apartments at the retirement home isn’t cutting it. I’m not making enough money to feed myself and support my mother’s bad habits. But I refuse to let her contact Millie and upset her. I’ll pay my mother’s gambling debts forever if it means Millie can live free and clear of our mom. I look to my right out the car window and notice Hannah, Millie’s best friend, driving her old, blue Ford Escort next to us. We’re coming up on a light, so I scoot closer to Nate across the bench seat of his cruiser until I’m pressed against his side, putting my plan into action. But my stupid pulse still kicks up a notch at our proximity, my body betraying me in the worst possible way. His head turns to mine and our lips are a mere breath apart. “What are you doing, Till?” he asks, his eyes genuine, and I almost feel bad for what I’m about to do. Running my hand up from his knee to his thigh, I lean closer to him until our noses brush. “What do you want me to do, Officer Trent?” I breathe across his lips as my hand ghosts across the zipper of his blue trousers. We stop at the light, and Nate closes his eyes and leans his head back against the headrest on a groan. I ignore the wetness that floods my panties and my desire to really grip his cock and give it a good stroke. “Another time,” I whisper before quickly sliding back across the bench seat and throwing my door open. I don’t even slam it behind me as I run across the lane, my arms flailing, sweating like a whore in church.

Miss Understood; The Coletrain Twins #2
(#2 within a series)

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

A sweet, spicy, quick read. This really helps complete the duet and I love getting both sides of the Coletrain sisters.

Even though Tillie has the criminal past, she has a heart of gold. We learn that everything bad she’s done has been for the right reasons and Nate has seen through her bad girl act from the very beginning.

I enjoyed reading the other side of the Coletrain sister story. It was also nice knowing that Nate had Tillie’s back, and let me tell you, Nate is the whole package!

Excerpt

“Stay still, Tillie. I’m sick and tired of chasing your crazy ass around town,” I snarl out to the insane female I have pressed up against the wall.
A perfectly round ass is wiggling all too enticingly against my already hardening cock, and I let out an exasperated sigh. Stupid dick. Clearly, it doesn’t know what’s good for us. Peppermint and some kind of floral soap assail my senses. I almost back away so I can take a harder look at this blonde bombshell, but I refuse to be fooled again. I’ve been hunting this woman down for weeks, and every time I’ve managed to catch up with her, she has somehow managed to give me the slip. Not again. She missed her court date, and it’s my job to bring her in. I have something to prove, being the new guy on the block. I’ve only been on the job for two weeks, and I’ve spent most of it chasing this criminally deranged woman. True, her crimes consist mostly of bounced checks and small thefts, but the way she has managed to evade me these past two weeks only proves one thing—she’s a damn criminal mastermind.
“I’m not Tillie, you big oaf. Let me go. Now!” the crazy lady says while trying to turn her body toward me.
I press her harder into the wall with my body and groan. Fuck, she feels too good. She’s trying to kill me. I’ve been stabbed, beaten, and shot at plenty in my six years as a bounty hunter, but I’ve never been more convinced that someone was trying to kill me than at this moment. And she is using that smoking-hot body as the weapon. Fuck my life.
Funnily enough, I’ve never once felt this pull toward Tillie while I’ve been tracking her. But, now that I am up close and personal, I cannot help but want her. Everything about her is calling to me. Her voice, her smell—this woman is fucking intoxicating.
“Cut the bullshit, darlin’. I’ve been watching you for weeks now and you know it. I watched you walk in this door not ten minutes ago. I’m taking you in, collecting my money, and getting a good night’s sleep tonight.” I’m so over this shit.
“God dammit, let me go. I am not Tillie.” She’s talking to the wall, but I’m mostly paying attention. “I’m Millie, and you are ruining my gig. My fans are expecting me up on stage any minute,” she says.
I take a look around this dive of a bar that smells like bacon and stale beer, trying to hold my smirk back. Grabbing the handcuffs around Tillie’s wrists, I spin her around to face me.
“Babe, karaoke is not a gig, and if you think it is, then we got bigger problems than a few bounced checks and some petty theft charges,” I say, taking in her curvy body, starting at the tips of her pink-painted toes. I want to pull those gorgeous toes out of the high-heeled sandals she’s wearing and take a nibble, but I know that, the moment she thinks I’m distracted, she’ll take off on me again.
My eyes make their way up smooth, tanned legs until I hit the hem of her pale-blue dress with white polka dots right above her knees. And damn, that dress perfectly hugs every curve of her body. My hand almost involuntary makes its way up to the long strand of pearls dangling around her neck. I want to pull her closer with them so I can smell her again or maybe run my tongue over her plump, pink-stained lips. Big, angry, bright-blue eyes snap me out of my lust-fueled fog. Fuck. This girl is fucking gorgeous, and I immediately know I won’t be taking her in right away.
“You’re new around here, aren’t you?” she snaps at me, the ice in her blue gaze freezing me.
The corners of my mouth tip up in a barely there smile. God, I love a sassy woman.

Review – Miss Apprehended by Miranda Elaine and Amie Knight

Miss Apprehended; The Coletrain Twins #1
(A novella within a series)

by: Miranda Elaine and Amie Knight

Review Rating:

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

A novella that packs a lot of steam and zany times between the pages.

Miss Apprehended is a quick read with instalove between Jake and Millie and lots of crazy antics between all of the characters. What comes across as a flighty Millie and an overbearing alpha Jake really are just two people who need each other in the grand scheme of things. While Millie could use a firm hand to calm some of her flighty ways, Jake could also use a little crazy to mix up his otherwise boring bounty hunter life.

While Miss Apprehended seems a bit over the top at times, it is just the right antidote when I’ve been reading a lot of heavy lately. So if you like a crazy, quick read then this book is right up your alley.

Synopsis:

I’ve got ninety-nine problems and all of them begin and end with the Coletrain twins.

2019 Goals – Monthly Author Feature – Miranda Elaine

2019 Goals. I’m a little late reporting my latest goal, but better late than never, right?!

This past month has been crazy busy. My oldest child graduated from college…where did the time go? I just dropped her off at kindergarten I am pretty sure of that?? She really cannot be ready to enter the adult world…she agrees, mostly. Like any young adult – give her space, but give her money. Yeah, I remember those days well myself. How is it I have a child this old, ugh.

Well, aside from graduation, moving children back and forth from schools to home to new apartments and trying to fit in one of the busiest months of reading and reviewing…again…I apologize that I’m just getting to my goals.

If you’ve missed the past few months, where I not only launched into my journey of 2019 goals, but also highlighted other amazing authors, please check them out by clicking on the links below.

2019 Goals – Monthly Author Feature – L.J. Shen

2019 Goals – Monthly Author Feature – Kandi Steiner

2019 Goals – Monthly Author Feature – Charity Ferrell

2019 Goals – Monthly Author Feature – Amy Andrews

Now—Welcome to May!!

I read and reviewed more books this past month than I have in a very long time and May also introduced me to several new authors, but it was the heartbreaking, second chance story by Miranda Elaine of Fixing Us that stood out among everything I read. Miranda broke my heart in the very first chapter and then slowly put it back together in this loving, second chance book. Gabriel Starr was a hero like none I’d ever read and the love he shared for Leigh is so spectacular, I hope you enjoy the book as much as I did and pick it up today.

“You’ll love everything about Fixing Us – the relatable, endearing characters and their poignant, tender and steamy love story.” ~Mary Dube @ Frolic
Fixing Us was an emotional journey. I was wrecked in the very first chapter and I want to leave you with one word; prepare.” ~Read the rest of Kay’s Review: Fixing Us

Gabriel Starr is the love of my life, even if he breaks my heart time and time again.

Like a fool, I keep going back, so I’ve made a promise to myself—one final night and then I’m done.

One night of passion.

No pressure. Most importantly, no future.

One month later, a positive pregnancy test tells me different.

Our only option is to raise this baby as friends, but how can we make it work when we can’t even keep our hands off each other?

We finally have the chance to be the family we never imagined we could be.

But first we need to focus on Fixing Us.

Fixing Us Teaser 5.jpg

Excerpt:

Finally, after what feels like a millennium, the door opens and Dr. Mallard enters, smiling. He’s an older man who is always overly happy. I like him, even if I find his cheerfulness somewhat off-putting at this exact second.

“Mrs. Simms, how exciting to have you here today. This must be your husband.” He walks over to Gabe, who stands, hand extended.

“Sorry, no,” I chime in. “Definitely not my husband.”

“My fault,” he apologizes. “Your boyfriend. This is a new age. Lots of people in lifelong relationships nowadays without marriage.”

Awkward.

“Nope,” I say, popping my P with a bit more attitude than intended. “We aren’t together.” I look over at Gabe, who’s holding his laughter in and I silently yell Help me!

“Just got her knocked up,” Gabe finally speaks. “Classic fairy tale story of ex-sex turning into a baby. Turns out those silly condoms serve a purpose and really shouldn’t be skipped. Who knew?”

“Seriously!” I yell while shooting him daggers with my eyes. All he does to respond is shrug his shoulders and give me an evil grin.

“Okay, Miss Simms, if you can lie back and put your feet up we can check on this little miracle,” Dr. Mallard finally says as the nurse pulls the stirrups out and helps me assume the position.

Even if you don’t want your ex-boyfriend back you still always want them to think of you as the sexy one who got away, not the girl nude and exposed with her legs in the air while a doctor probes her. Great, fucking great.

“Sure.” I lie back and my head jerks to Gabe. “But you stay north of the equator.”

“Not a problem, Leigh.” He smiles at me. “But it ain’t nothing I haven’t seen before.”

“Well, it’s definitely something you’re never seeing again,” I snap back at him, causing the nurse to let a small chuckle escape.

I try to act cool by the fact that the doctor seems to think sticking a huge wand up me is perfectly normal.

Thump thump. Thump thump.

Our bickering immediately stops. The room is dark and the monitor next to me is lit up.

“Is that—” Gabe starts.

“That’s your baby’s heartbeat,” the doctor interrupts. “And if you look over here, you see that small little bean shape in the middle there.” He points to the picture on the ultrasound machine. “That’s your baby. It’s currently approximately the size of a raspberry.”

“Wow,” Gabe and I both somehow say at the same time.

We finish the appointment with a plethora of information. Gabe is quiet and the silliness that existed in the examination room is gone. We check out and walk side by side. Neither of us bringing up everything we need to discuss.

Does him showing up mean he wants to be involved? Does he assume we will get back together? Can we even do this together? Do I want to?

All the questions are running rampant in my head and instead of saying a single one of them I simply say, “I’ll let you know when I have another appointment.”

“Thanks.” He holds the door to the building open, letting me walk outside, him close on my heels. “I want to be here for you and our child as best as I can.”

I nod, but my mind is still back in that office with that beautiful baby. My baby.

“We ought to talk, Leigh.”

“You’re right. But today I got to hear my—our, baby’s heartbeat for the first time. Let’s not ruin it, okay?” We’re standing in the middle of the parking lot, neither of us moving to our respective vehicles.

“Okay, but soon.”

Fixing Us; A Fixing Novel (Series)
by Miranda Elaine (Author)

This review is from: May 6, 2019 By Kay Daniels
Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Heat Level:🔥🔥🔥

Fixing Us was an emotional journey. I was wrecked in the very first chapter and I want to leave you with one word; prepare.

Yes, it ends with a HEA, because let’s face it, unless you are reading a book that knowingly ends with a cliffhanger and then the next book better resolve itself. The reason we read romance books is to eventually get our happily ever afters. As readers, we get very upset, if we don’t get that satisfied ending. So, that is not what I’m warning against. Fixing Us will wring you out over and over and then leave you emotionally wrecked for days kind of read (in a good way, but still). Prepare.

Gabriel Starr was put into the foster system at a very young age. With two very dysfunctional parents and then a foster system that shuffled him from home to home. He never learns how to love, how to be loved, or what love means. It isn’t until he meets Leigh Ann Simms in high school that someone sees beyond the poor, lost boy that even he begins to allow himself to dream. But Gabe doesn’t believe in himself enough to dream beyond the walls of high school so he walks away from the one person who was good in his life to allow Leigh to pursue her future, even if her future was to have him in it.

It would take over twelve years, a lot of heartache, and the reality that perhaps Gabe and Leigh should just be friends. They have a broken pattern of falling into where Leigh seeks Gabe out, he takes her back, but when she pushes him for more, he walks away. Reaching thirty and Leigh decides it time to finally move on from those shattered dreams. Time to move on from the heartache. Time to move on from the pattern she’s established with the only man she’s ever loved in her life. Can she do it? It’s time to finally fix her heart.

How much can our heart handle?

What tests can the spirit endure?

Can you fix a relationship that’s been fractured over and over?

Perhaps those answers need to come when you stop looking outward and finally fix what’s inside.

Fixing Us is emotional and held so much more than I was expecting. As a hero, Gabe isn’t just broken; he’s been neglected, abused, unloved, the opposite of everything a child should receive and experience which scars him deeply. He doesn’t feel worthy of Leigh’s love, nor help and the reason is so profound it will break your heart. Gabe will tear through your emotional soul like tissue paper, so once again; prepare. (you will have a book hangover with this one)
