Out in the van, I watched and waited for signs of Livy.
East leaned over. “Mate, we can’t wait any longer.”
He was out of his mind. No way was I leaving without her, period. “What the fuck are you saying? We wait.”
“Fine, we’ll give it another minute. Maybe she’ll come out, or maybe she already made it out of another exit.”
From my periphery, I saw Bridge shake his head, and I glanced back at East. Roone was coming over from the other car. “We’re going to miss our window. The police will be here soon. It’s better to move, or would you rather explain what the fuck we’re all doing here? Time to go.”
I shook my head. “No. Liv’s inside. We can’t leave her.”
His voice was low and hushed like he was speaking to a spooked animal. “Listen, we can do more by getting back to the house and planning. Figure out where she is, where she went, and what happened. Right now, we can’t do anything if we all get pinched. Do you hear me?”
I growled at him. “I’m not fucking—” His straight jab to my face came quick, and the edges of my vision wavered a little.
“What the fuck? Did you just hit me?”
“Yeah, because you’re being irrational. You’re putting us all in danger.”
I was done. Done playing along. Done getting along.
I had to go back for her.
East must have guessed my intention because he reached for my arm, which I quickly dodged. Then I stepped around Roone and bolted to his car. Her tracker was active, and I was going to get her back.

She jabbed me in the chest, her finger leaving an invisible, searing burn on my skin. And I wanted more.
“You need to be more careful.”
“Careful, Mr. Covington, someone might accuse you of caring.”
I squared my shoulders. “Hardly.” My gaze fell on her lips, and my gut tightened. No. Stop looking at her mouth.
Olivia swallowed hard. “I am… uh…” The spark of lightning between us danced. I could physically feel the tension in the room. I needed to get changed. I needed her to get out for me to do that. But goddamn, her hands were on me as she patted me dry. “Look, it’s fine. I’m just going to help you, and then we’ll get back to our day, okay? God, I’m such an idiot. I was really trying to help.”
She continued to pat me with the towel as she spoke rapidly, hardly taking a breath. Each press of her palm was stoking the flame, playing with fire. “Um, Livy?”
She kept on talking though. About how I needed to be more careful. That I should have better situational awareness. Have a clue as to what was happening around me.
All the while, she had zero idea what was going on in my head. The war I was having with myself about touching her, about what was appropriate. All the blood rushed south, and I clenched my teeth, trying to fight against my growing erection. She chose that moment to glance down.
Fucking brilliant.
Her voice went throaty when she mumbled, “Um, I think you’re mostly dry. You can handle this yourself. I’m going to go.”
I cleared my throat in a desperate attempt to regain control. “You probably should.”
But she didn’t move, just stared at me with those wide dark eyes. Daring me.
“Olivia?” It sounded like a plea.

I nipped her shoulder. “Too right. And as soon as we’re back from breakfast, I plan on putting you in a comatose state again. But first I need to feed my…” My voice trailed off as I looked for the right word.
She slowly sat up. “Not sure what to call me, huh?”
“Guess not. We’ve been playing house and you’re posing as my fiancée, but that’s different now.”
She nodded slowly as she studied me. “I guess it is.”
I wanted to say the word. Mine. But that was too much and would certainly scare her off. So instead, with a nervous laugh, I said, “Don’t look at me. I haven’t a clue how to do this. But I know staying away from you isn’t really an option I’d like to explore any longer.” God, way to pussy out.
She chewed her lip. “It’s not like I have some kind of manual either. I don’t really— I mean I haven’t really had a lot of relationships. And I don’t really do the whole trusting-people thing, so this is hard.”
Panic flared in my chest. I was fucking this up.
She didn’t want this. I scrambled for a way to make sure she stayed in my life. Fuck. We’d start with the bed. We were good there. I could bring her around with great sex, right? “Why don’t we just take it easy and see where the meandering road leads? Maybe we’ll make a good team.” Fuck. Why did I sound like a complete wanker?
She looked down at her hands before slanting me a glance. “Xander, you’re paying me to be here. It doesn’t feel… right.”
Bollocks. I knew the money would come back to haunt me. “I already wired the rest of the money into your account this morning when I woke up.” My heart hammered as I searched for the right words. Not too clingy, but interested. Yeah, more like desperate, mate. “I want you to stay because you want to.”
She frowned up at me. “Why did you do that? I could be the kind of person to walk out.”
No. Please no. Swagger, mate. Believe it. I shook my head. “Because I’d like the real girlfriend instead of the fake one, if you don’t mind. I mean, I’d like you to stay until I hear about the position on the board of the Trust, but even when you move back to your place, I’d like to see you. A lot. Exclusively.” Way to mark your territory, you knob.
My stomach knotted as I watched her. What if she said no? Well, I’d give her so many orgasms she’d be too weak to say no. That sounded like a solid plan.

I really had to start thinking through my plans better. It had seemed like such a good idea to slip my hand into his before coming down for cocktails. A fantastic idea, really. It was innocuous enough but was something real couples did. Or so I remembered from my old life when I’d had relationships. But then as soon as the doors had opened, there had been people in the hallway.
Xander had probably taken his cue from me, but the kiss he’d planted on my shoulder didn’t feel like an act.
It felt… real. At least the shivers it gave me were real.
As we traversed the white marble from the foyer, he gently guided me with a hand on my lower back. But every single touch, caress, and glide brought the lick of heat with it. It was making me half mad with lust. When I slanted him a glance, he blinked at me innocently.
Damn him, he knew he was driving me crazy. And this was why I hadn’t wanted to do this. Because of this feeling. Every time he touched me I was transported right back to that flat in Notting Hill where a total stranger had touched me and for once made me feel something.

I scanned the crowd. Apparently, kink didn’t scare off the young, elite, and rich. The usual crowd I’d see at China White were all here trying too hard not to look desperately bored. Through the crowd, I spotted a flashbulb go off, and I stiffened.
Calm down, mate. Of course, the club had hired photographers for the event. But I eyed the shutterbug again. Slight build. Dirty blond hair gelled up into spikes. I could have sworn I’d seen him before. The hairs on the back of my neck stood at attention, but I couldn’t place the guy. I needed to calm down. The hiring staff would only hire reputable photographers. They knew that we required the utmost privacy, and they wouldn’t hire anyone who had ever worked with the tabloids. But still, I couldn’t shake the feeling I’d seen the guy before. Maybe he was one of Xander’s students?
“Speaking of complications…” I muttered. I couldn’t have missed Abbie’s entrance with her friends if I’d been trying.
Sophie squealed when she spotted me, and immediately a flock of women swarmed the models. One of the guys put his arm around Abbie, and I had the irrational urge to plant my fist in his face.
She’d texted earlier to say she was going out, but I had no idea she’d end up here.
As always, she looked stunning. She’d worn her braids piled on top of her head in some kind of bun, with long dangling earrings showing off her slender neck.
Gemma glanced toward the entrance. “Given the electric sparks between you two across a room, I see why the urgency.”
“Leave it, Gem.”
“Just saying. Give me a couple of weeks before you two get cited for public eye shagging.” She gathered up her purse. “I think I’ll go see what Nick’s up to.”
I didn’t even see which way she went because my attention was so focused on Abbie. And as if she felt my eyes on her, she immediately looked up.
When our gazes locked, need chased the elation through my veins. I’d only seen her yesterday, but any time I spent away from her felt like eons. But it wasn’t like I could really complain. She’d had work to do for my brother. I tried not to think about what Xander had said about her. It didn’t matter what Xander thought. I couldn’t stop seeing her.
She climbed the stairs, her soft skirt swishing against her legs as she did. When she reached the landing, she fixed me with a smile. “Fancy meeting you here.” She looked around surreptitiously. “In a sex club.”
“Oh, is it a sex club? I hadn’t noticed.” I grinned. “Nick’s idea.”
“Ahh, he didn’t really strike me as the whips-and-chains kind of guy.” She shrugged.
For several moments, we stood facing each other, neither moving, forcing anyone who wanted access to the stairs to go around us. Finally, I angled my body a little closer to her and said, “It’s one of his dad’s clubs. Do you want to go somewhere a little more private… to talk?”
Her eyes flashed. “Yeah.” She cleared her throat. “Talking seems like a really good idea, actually.”
I took her hand and led her through the throngs of the VIP section, past the dominatrix with her victim for the night, and past the sex viewing rooms. She held on tight to me as we passed by them.
“Are they having…”
“Yeah.” As much as I wanted to be with her, I hated having her here in the midst of all the kink that was going on. “Maybe we should leave the club?”
“I—No. It’s okay. We came as a group for Jasper’s gig tonight. Apparently, there’s some big promoter here. Jasper’s hoping to get some representation tonight. We’re sort of supporting him. Everyone would notice if I left.”
“Right.” Jasper. Jasper might be my friend, but jealousy ate at me. I wanted her there to support me. Of course, I’d have to tell her something real about myself first. I found the private rooms, then after looking around to make sure no one paid us any attention, I dragged her inside. Dim red light illuminated the comfortable-looking couch and bed. Her eyes widened as she glanced around. “This is… cozy.”
I kissed her softly, and for a moment, all the tension ebbed out of my body. “I just wanted to be alone with you for two minutes before things get crazy out there and we don’t have a minute to talk all night.”
“No. It’s fine.” She placed a hand on my chest, and my heart hammered. “I’d rather get a minute with you, even if it’s in a sex room. I wanted to talk to you about something.”
We’d spent a lot of time together over the last week, but we hadn’t been alone. Always out in public. Even the photo lab had been occupied when I’d gone to help her. The one night we’d made a date for her to go to my place, she’d had to do some schoolwork for Xander and rescheduled. The prick of guilt stung as I thought of how badly her last critique had gone.
“Okay, talk.” I kissed the crook of her neck and inhaled. Her perfume, mixed with her unique scent, drove me a little crazy and made my head swim.
“Alexi, I can’t—” She moaned when I licked her. “I can’t think when you’re doing that.”
“Okay, sorry.” I drew back. “Sometimes I forget to slow down.”
She blinked up at me and inhaled deeply. “Sometimes I don’t want you to.”
I stilled. What? “I don’t understand.”
“Have you noticed that even after we said we’d ease up on intensity we’ve been spending every minute we can together?”
Something ominous and slimy squirmed in my gut. “I thought that was a good thing.”
“It is. Maybe we don’t need to take it quite so slow anymore.”
Relief washed over me like a wave. As did panic. I was totally fucked. I was completely in love with her. And there were things she still didn’t know about me.

As I leaned against the wall of the makeshift medical room we’d set up in the penthouse, I thought about the two versions of the man I had started to fall for.

Two versions of one of the richest men in the world. One of them was a billionaire, Derrick Arlington. And the other was someone I didn’t know.

And currently, one of them was bleeding all over what looked like a massage table.

I’d fallen in love with a mirage. None of what I’d felt had been real.

As the doctor Royal Elite had on call worked to patch up Derrick, I watched them both. The resemblance was beyond uncanny. They were freaking identical.

No. You can tell them apart.

Right now, I could. But without the scruff and long hair, would I be able to?

I forced myself to take a closer look. To focus on what was different, what stood out.

For starters, Theo, or whoever the hell he was, had broken his nose. There was a slight bump in the ridge. It was barely noticeable, but it distinguished them. That and the eyes, that stormy gray, surrounded by thick lashes. They were the same shape and color, but Arlington’s were a little closer together. Or maybe a little wider. It was hard to tell now as he had a cut above one and it was nearly swollen shut.

Heightwise, they looked about the same, but I couldn’t be sure. They weighed about the same. And I only knew that because I’d helped drag Arlington off the beach with Theo, who had mumbled some bullshit about me not finding out that way. And sorry, sorry blah blah blah. If I was being honest, the shock had rendered me deaf and dumb right then.

But once the crisis was over, my voice was back, and I had a shit ton to say. Starting with Liar. Conman. Duplicitous fuck.

It didn’t matter what form of explanation came out of his mouth. As far as I was concerned, he was full of shit.

The story takes on multiple POV’s involving Sebastian and Penny from the first duet,who are now King and Queen of the Winston Isles, along with Bryna and Lucas.

Even after Lucas disappeared, Bryna did her best to pick up the pieces of her heart and move on with her life. It wasn’t easy to forget the man and even more difficult when the king and queen asked for her help in bringing him home. She wanted to say no, keep her heart safe and protected, but how do you reject a request from the king?

Lucas thought he was doing what was right, vanishing so he could protect those he loved, while at the same time trying to destroy the man who ruined his childhood and was seeking to destroy his future. What Lucas didn’t realize was that in leaving he may have ruined what future he could have had and there may be no rectifying it when he does return.

Prince or pauper, does it really matter when you love someone? What lengths would you go to to show someone you love them?

Bastard Prince was fast paced and extremely juicy. I adored the growth that Lucas has shown from the very first novel of Cheeky Royal through this one. Both Lucas and Sebastian have matured quite a bit from the beginning and I love how passionate they are about their women. The next duet will be about the lost princess. So hold on to your crowns because more conspiracy, more passion, and more updates will be coming your way form Nana Malone.

If you haven’t ready Royal Bastard yet, do so before you read Bastard Prince. These books go hand-in-hand.
