“So today we’re going to cut down a Christmas tree and decorate it.”

I shake my head, “No we’re not.”

She stares at me, and I’m pretty certain she’s surprised at my resistance.

The coffee has slowed to a drip, so I take down two mugs and pour the steaming black liquid, enjoying the rich smell. I shove one across the counter toward her and take a long drink of the hot liquid.

“Just like that?” she asks, frowning at me.

“Just like what?”

“No. Just like that?”

I take another sip. It’s good coffee, then say, “Of course. What are you going to do? Make me?”

She pulls the pan off the stove and holds it high in the air. “Here’s the deal. You come Christmas tree cutting with me and you get delicious sausage and pancakes. You don’t…and you get…you get…”

“The lotion?” I ask straight-faced.

Apparently she’s not a fan of horror, because she waves that away.

“No. Last year’s fruitcake. It’s in the cupboard, soaked in rum. And lemme tell you. It’s fluorescent green and goopy brown. There are oozy bits. And when you take it out of the tin, it makes a squishy splooshy noise. Like it’s exhaling.”

I stare at her, appalled at her fruitcake description. Maybe she is a fan of horror. “This is a real thing? A breathing fruitcake?”

“Of course. You should see the one we’re saving from 2012. Actually, maybe I’ll give that one to you.” She shakes the pan at me, the sausage smell drifting over. “You decide. Sausages and pancakes. Or respirating fruitcake.”

“You are diabolical.”

There’s no way she knows that I can only cook two things: toast and microwave meals. And I didn’t see any bread or microwaveables in the pantry. So…am I actually at her mercy?

I consider the pan of sausages, the maple scent drifting across the kitchen. It’s a homey smell, sweet and savory, matching the warm wood cabinets and the butcher block counters. My stomach lets out a growl, reminding me of how hungry I am.

I haven’t eaten since yesterday’s lunch. A microwave noodle bowl that I half-ate while going through emails and making calls.

I weigh the options. Go hungry. Go Christmas. Go hungry. Go Christmas.

“Fine. I’ll kill a tree with you then decorate its carcass in lights and shiny balls.” I take the plate from the counter and hold it out to her, “Serve it up. Even prisoners get two hots and a cot. Something you’ll be learning very soon.”

Review – Scrooging Christmas by Sarah Ready

Scrooging Christmas; A Soul Mates in Romeo #7
(Standalone within an interconnected series)

Publication Date: October 18, 2022

Genre/Tropes: Holiday/Grumpy-Sunshine/Romantic Comedy

Author: Sarah Ready

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:
If the Farrelly Brothers made a Christmas romantic comedy it would be this story. Scrooging Christmas is full of wacky moments, but it then fills the heart with a lot of Christmas magic.

Gabe Cavanaugh is lacking Christmas spirit. Although that is putting it mildly. He is a bit of a scrooge and Natalie Fiorre is determined to make sure by Christmas that she fixes it.

Okay, there is a lot more to it than that. Natalie shows up to his place of business, after making it look like the North Pole, which is the last thing Gabe wants at Christmas, he is such a scrooge, anyway….after he wants it taken down…well, there is a date gone wrong where Natalie’s date would rather spend Christmas with his cat, a mistaken taxi ride, and suddenly she’s kidnapping Scrooge. Don’t worry…Christmas is fun, magical and Scrooge may still get visits from a few ghosts.

Sneak Peak – Scrooging Christmas by Sarah Ready

When Miss Christmas meets Mr. Scrooge, sparks fly.

Scrooging Christmas, a delightfully quirky opposites attract holiday romance from author Sarah Ready is coming October 18th, and we have a flirty sneak peek!

“What’s your name?” I ask, and when I do the woman looks at me with wide eyes, as if she’d forgotten I was here.

“I thought you knew.”

“Marley?” I ask, thinking of her obsession with Scrooge.

“No.”

She gives a short huff of laughter and walks back to where I’m standing. She reaches down to pull off her fur-lined boots, dropping them beneath the bench.

“Not Marley,” I say.

I stretch my hands, moving my fingers, letting the painful pricks of circulation come back.

“But I bet it’s something Christmas related. All you nutters who love Christmas always have those kind of names. How about…Holly?”

She lifts an eyebrow. “Do you want me to tell you my name?”

“No, I’m going to guess it,” I stare at her, take in her bright eyes, her curves, how she seems to fit perfectly in this homey rustic cabin. “Noelle.”

She shakes her head.

“Mary?”

No.

“Ivy?”

Nope.

“Fruitcake?”

She snorts.

“Carol? Chris? Star? Rudolph?”

With each guess she shakes her head, and when I say Rudolph she actually lets out a strangled laugh.

“No. Wow. My parents wouldn’t saddle me with the name Rudolph. They actually like me.”

I look across the living room at the pictures on the mantle. There’s a family photo from decades ago, a dad in a baggy sweater and wire-framed glasses, a mom in a denim dress, and a little girl hugging her younger brother while they all beam at the camera. They’re all standing in front of a scraggly Christmas tree wrapped in paper chains.

“Hmm. I wonder what your mom and dad would think of your descent into crime.” I frown at the picture of the happy family, then say in a mournful tone, “She was such a sweet little girl, kept to herself, nice to the neighbors, no one would’ve guessed what a devious heart lay beneath that Christmas façade.”

She wags her finger at me. “Okay. Yes. Some might say this is wrong.”

I give her a disbelieving look.

She grumbles, “But others might say that this is fate. Destiny. Christmas providence.”

I shake my head. “No one would say that.”

“Some might.”

“No they wouldn’t.”

“Maybe two or three.”

I shake my head. “No.”

She sighs. “Fine. They wouldn’t…or they might. My name is Natalie. Nice to meet you.” She holds out her hand.

I let out a laugh. “Natalie. Which means Christmas. I forgot that one.”

Keep reading for your first look at Scrooging Christmas!

December 21, 11:12 p.m.

The Christmas carols are horridly, ear-numbingly loud. The sleigh bells, the trilling trumpet, and the joyful voices boomerang inside my skull and jolt me out of unconsciousness.

I lie still, my cheek scratching against cheap, prickly carpet, the scent of pine and gasoline sharp in my nose as I struggle to brush aside the veil of confusion.

Darkness coats my vision, thick, and absolute. There’s the taste of fresh falling snow in the air, mixed with the copper tang of blood on my dry lips.

So, there’s snowfall.

Pine trees.

The icy darkness of the cramped trunk.

My knees are tucked against my chest. Hot needles prick at my calves just above my tied ankles. My wrists are bound behind my back.

I wriggle my numb fingers, rotate my hands. It’s not rope, handcuffs, or zip ties that hold me, it’s…Christmas lights?

I’m tied up with the green cordage of a hundred Christmas bulbs?

The plastic cord digs into my wrists and ankles, cutting off circulation as I struggle. The trunk is coffin-like, too tight to maneuver.

You’d think, if you were bent on stuffing a six-foot-two man inside a trunk, you’d find a car bigger than a roller skate. But I’m trussed up like a Christmas goose, stuck in an oven. Except this oven is a trunk and achingly cold. The sharp icicle teeth of December bite at my nose and cheeks.

The crunch of ice-filled potholes and snow grinding under the car tires is muted beneath the chirpy high-pitched chorus of Christmas cheer. The carols assault my ears, but I listen for the sounds beyond the singing.

The night is curiously quiet, there’s only the music, the grumble of the engine, the tires crunching over ice-coated snow, and the claustrophobic noise of my own breathing.

I’m not in Manhattan then. Not anywhere near my apartment.

The car jostles around a curve and I roll and slide into the trunk wall, crushing my face against the unyielding metal surface.

A package bumps into my back, brushing against my hands. Wrapping paper, a frilly bow, I run my fingers over the slick paper surface.

I’m in the trunk with a present.

My stomach rolls as we round another curve, bumping over a small hill. I’m on a country road, far, far from home, that much is clear.

I jerk about and try to dislodge my cell from my suit pocket. Thirty seconds in I realize my phone isn’t in my pocket. I can’t feel the thick bulge of my wallet either.

I draw in a deep breath of stagnant air and tell myself to think…think…think.

They have to be after money. A million? Two? More?

I grit my teeth, the bitter smell of Christmas pine and snow lingering in my nose.

I don’t remember anything after hailing the taxi. Is that it then? Did the taxi driver render me unconscious and shove me into their trunk?

I try to recall their appearance, to picture who is currently at the wheel, driving us farther and farther away from New York. But I can’t. When I rifle through my memories, looking for their face, I only see a blank empty space.

I kick at the area where the tail light is. Maybe if I knock it out I can signal another car. But the only thing that comes of my efforts is an aching ankle.

I hate Christmas.

I really, really hate Christmas.

And wouldn’t it be just the figgy pudding to top it all if I died out in the snowy, pine tree wilds, in the car of some Christmas carol loving maniac?

A curious calm settles over me, the pine needle smell tickling my nose, my heartbeat slowing to the lull of “Silent Night.”

The car slows, crawling along at five miles an hour, winding down, I assume, a long country drive, deep in some craggy, forgotten woods.

This is it then.

Keep reading for a look inside My Better Life!

My head hurts.
There’s a crowbar in my skull tearing my brain apart. I can’t think it hurts so much. I want to peel the pain away, scratch it out of my head. It’s been like this for two days now, ever since I woke up in this horrible place.
Amnesia. Who gets amnesia? Isn’t that something that only happens in made-for-television movies? The doctors don’t know who I am. No one knows. Not even me.
And the doctors claim I may never remember.
I try not to think about that, because if I do, I feel as if I’m entering a dark, tiny room, and for some reason, that terrifies me.
The doctors also said that my memories may come back all at once, or in a slow trickle over time. But there’s nothing I can do but rest and wait and see what happens.
I don’t know anything about myself. But I do know that I don’t like to wait and I don’t like not moving. Even now, I itch to get up and leave. There’s someplace I’m meant to be, someone I want to see, I can feel it. I just don’t know where or who.
I pray that I’ll remember, or that they’ll find me.
I glare at the woman standing in front of me. She’s not pretty. I don’t know why this strikes me as something I care about, but there it is. She’s not cute.
I don’t recognize her. Not at all.
“Who are you?” I flinch at the noise of my own voice. It feels like nails punching into my head.
She blinks at me. And I decide to amend my earlier opinion. She’s not pretty, but her eyes, her lavender blue eyes, are stunning. She nervously licks her lips, her pink tongue darts quickly over her wide mouth and she looks down at the hospital sheet pooled around my hips.
“Billy,” she says, her voice soft like flowing honey. “It’s me, Jamie.”
I start to shake my head, but then stop. Because that hurts too. I want to say, who is Billy, but then I realize Billy must be my name.
I can’t remember…I can’t…I can’t remember my name.
Billy.
Okay.
Billy is short for William, and when I think William, there’s a whisper there at the edge of my lost memory.
“Who are you?” I ask again.
She clasps her hands in front of her chest, innocent blue eyes wide, frizzy red hair a halo in the hospital light. “Baby, it’s me. Jamie. Your wife. I’m here to take you home.”
My wife? Her face blossoms into a beatific smile, like the Madonna under the shining light of heaven. I can’t say anything, except…
“No.”
Because I don’t know who I am, I don’t know who she is, and I don’t know what’s going on. But I do know one thing. I never would’ve married a short woman with red frizzy hair, a flat chest, unflattering clothes bought off the rack at a discount superstore, and a southern drawl that sounds like it’s echoing off a hillbilly’s mountaintop.
I would never do that.
I don’t know who I am. But I do know that I have a certain taste in women, and this Jamie person doesn’t hit the mark.
At all.
“Sorry. No.”
She grins at me. “Aww. Come on, Billy baby. Gran and the kids are waiting in the station wagon.”
That’s when my world screeches to a halt.
“Kids?”
“Course. Elijah, Tanner, and Shay. Lord almighty, Billy. How hard did you hit your head?”
She leans forward and brushes her fingers, cool as a spring morning, over my forehead.
I stare at her with rapidly expanding horror.
We’re married?
We have kids?
I’m…Billy?
I grasp my pounding head in my hands.
“I’m Billy?”
The woman, Jamie, drops a sharp peck on my cheek. Her innocent smile has a jagged edge.
“Always the jokester. Come on, honey, you’ve got work in the morning. Pumping the poo outta the outhouses.”
And that’s when I know. The reason I can’t remember who I am is because I don’t want to. An unattractive wife? A station wagon? A horde of snotty-nosed kids? Pumping poop?
Apparently, my life is hell.
And by the stubborn look on the woman’s face, this nightmare life of mine, it’s not going away.

New Release – My Better Life by Sarah Ready

She may be the girl of his dreams but he can’t remember.
And what happens when he does?

My Better Life, a light-hearted, enemies-to-lovers romance from author Sarah Ready, is now available!

When East Coast elite and wealthy bachelor Gavin Williams wakes up in a rural West Virginia hospital, he doesn’t remember who he is or where he’s from.
He doesn’t remember his heiress fiancée, his luxury homes, his exotic travels, or his private plane.
And he especially doesn’t remember insulting local country-girl and fiery redhead Jamie Sutton, smashing her dreams, and leaving her in a pinch.
So when a redhead in overalls stands over his hospital bed and convincingly tells him he loves banjos, hound dogs, and rustling chickens, what’s he supposed to do?
Suddenly Gavin is scrambling to fit into a country life that doesn’t feel familiar and that can’t possibly be his. A wife? Kids? A chicken coop?
His life is full of holes and secrets, desires and dreams, and as Gavin learns more he begins to wonder—will he ever remember? And what happens when he does?

My Better Life; Soul Mates in Romeo #6
(An interconnected standalone within a series)

Publication Date: July 19, 2022

Genre/Tropes: Small Town/Romantic Comedy

Author: Sarah Ready

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:
Sweetly charming with lots of snort-out-loud moments and a slooooooowwww burning romance.

My Better Live is super cute and full of fun, full of family and a slow burning romance that, if you are familiar with the movie Overboard, there are a lot of similarities, but that movie is one of my favorite romcoms which made this book the cherry on top when diving into this reading experience.

Gavin begins this book angry, bitter and a not so very nice billionaire. The Goldie Hawn role in this particular book. Jamie is commissioned to make him an art piece which Gavin reneges on, but after an accident leaves him with amnesia Jamie suddenly finds herself with an opportunity to serve Gavin his “just desserts” as her Grandma so kindly puts it.

My Better Life has beautifully sweet moments surrounded by hilarious moments that Sarah Ready writes with absolute ease. While this book has the framework of one of my favorite rom com movies it absolutely stands on its own with it’s unique quirks and fall in love forever kind of story.

Keep reading for a sneak peek of My Better Life!

“Who the devil are you?”
When Gavin was sad and pleading, like Elijah when he begs to go out and play baseball instead of doing his homework, I sorta felt sorry for him. But now, he’s looking at me like I’m a diseased rat that somehow, incomprehensibly ended up in his pristine world, and all my feeling sorry evaporates.
I stiffen, because honestly, I do have some pride.
“You have two seconds to answer me, or I’m calling the police.”
Not for nothing, but “the police” is Daryl Jones, my second cousin. That’s not going to help Gavin. All it’ll do is embarrass me. Daryl will get a good laugh out of this.
Gavin pulls a phone out of his pocket and holds it up threateningly.
“Tell me your name and what you’re doing lurking in my home.”
Slowly, I stand. I don’t want to startle him after all. When I do, he gets a good look at my dirty overalls, my roughed up boots, and my frizzy hair. His eyes widen and his nostrils flare. I get the impression he just got his first whiff of ol’ Billy.
I really should’ve taken a shower.
I would’ve if I’d known this was going to happen.
“My word, she’s a squatter. I’ve got a squatter in my home.” His jaw hardens and he thrusts his hand toward the open door. “Out. Get out.” He motions at me like I’m some mangy stray.
“Hey!” I put my hand on my hips. “I’m not a squatter. I’m Jamie Sutton.”
He stares at me, his expression uncomprehending. “What did you say?”
I blow out a long breath, the hot air stirring the hair sticking out from my braid.
“I said,” I annunciate and talk real slow for him, “I’m not a squatter. I’m Jamie Sutton.”
He shakes his head like he still doesn’t understand and then he takes slow, careful steps toward me, like he expects some loony behavior on my part. When he’s only a few feet away, he wrinkles his nose and looks at me with utter distaste.
“I don’t know what jammy sudden is, but I want you to remove your person from my home.”
Oh lordy. He can’t understand plain English.
“Jamie Sutton,” I say slowly pointing at myself.
He stares at me, uncomprehending. No wonder the fairy princess left him. He’s gorgeous, but his head is full of rocks. And he has a temper. I know it, because he steps forward and grabs my arm, his fingers hot and calloused.
“That’s it. If you won’t get out, I’ll take you out.” Want more? Continue reading here > https://bit.ly/3QYfNhr

Blog Tour – Married by Sunday by Sarah Ready

They’re total opposites.
But they just might be perfect for each other.

Married by Sunday, an all-new hilarious, opposites attract, road trip romantic comedy from Sarah Ready, is available now!

Opposites clash in this wild, unpredictable rom com, where two strangers team up to stop a wedding at all costs.

Nathaniel Barry is monochromatic, meticulous, and uptight. Izzy Harris is wild, unpredictable, and free-spirited. Nathaniel has a trendy apartment, a successful career, and a girlfriend he’s about to propose to. Izzy has no home, no career, and nobody special to hold her down.

They’re polar-opposites in every way.

So when they sit next to each other on the train to Romeo, New York they clash from the very start. Naturally, Nathaniel decides he wants nothing to do with Izzy. And Izzy…well, she has a different opinion.

No matter how much Nathaniel protests, Izzy knows it was fate that brought them together. Nathaniel’s girlfriend just ran off to marry another man, and Izzy swears she’ll help Nathaniel win her back. They have three days to stop the ill-advised wedding. It should be easy. It should be simple. But when two polar opposites team-up to stop a wedding, there’s only one guarantee – that nothing will go as planned.

Married by Sunday is Book 5 in Sarah Ready’s Soul Mates in Romeo Romance Series.

Excerpt

“Excuse me, I think my boyfriend is under your table.”
I hold extremely still and crouch in a little ball under the round wooden table. The white tablecloth nearly touches the floor, but I can see the tip of Gertrude’s high heels and Raphael’s brown wingtips behind her.
“If you don’t mind, I’m just going to look.”
I close my eyes. How did my life come to this? How did I go from an incredibly successful, well-respected businessman to a disaster covered in cake crouched under a table? It’s embarrassing.
I wait for the tablecloth to lift up, but it doesn’t.
I move back but the woman at the table kicks me. I grunt and then hold still.
Wait a minute.
I recognize those shoes.
“Don’t you dare,” a woman with a southern drawl a mile wide says. “My husband is under this table giving me the French tickle, it’s our honeymoon, and I always wanted a little tongue bath in public. Ah ah. Back away from the tablecloth, missy.”
A grin spreads across my face. She’s absurd, she’s obscene, she’s the best.
I could kiss her.
“If you lift this tablecloth, this whole restaurant and all them old ladies will see my hoo-ha. That’ll ruin their appetites. Or it’ll make ’em jealous. Either way.”
“Uh…uh…what?”
“My treasure,” Raphael says, “the lady says the man you saw is her husband.”
“But…but I swear I saw Nathaniel. I don’t know why he’s here. I told him not to come,” Gertrude says.
“Well, that settles it. You couldn’t have seen a Nathaniel. My husband’s name is Devon.”
I stifle a surprised laugh and Izzy kicks at me again.
“Now, if you’ll please excuse us, I’d like to get back to it. We only live once, ya know.”
Wow.
She’s crazy.
She’s perfect.
She rescued me.

Genre/Tropes: Romantic Comedy/Opposites Attract

Author: Sarah Ready

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

Hilarious opposites attract romance! This giggle-worthy story is adorableness wrapped up in a snuggly warm blanket kind of book. It’s lighthearted, sweet, full of laughter and chemistry, it’s the perfect romantic comedy to lift your soul.

Sarah Ready did it again. She made the perfect opposites attract fall in love in the most hilarious way. Nathaniel and Izzy are polar opposites. He’s Mr. Wallstreet and she’s scraping by with twenty-cents left in her pocket. She’s traveling the world without an address tied to her name and he’s planning his future down to the minute. So you see where they would have nothing in common, except….when Izzy decides to help Nate – he really doesn’t like to be called Nate BTW – without his asking for help. It’s adorable and hilarious and so darn cute his insistence in trying to walk away from her brand of help, but in the end who can say no to Izzy? No one. No one can say no. Thus begins their adventure.

Nate is on his way to stop his girlfriend, that’s right his girlfriend, from marrying another man. It’s tangled and this is why Izzy decides to help. Nate obviously needs it. They set off on a roadtrip to Romeo, the capitol of love, with some harrowing side adventures and lessons in love, so Nathaniel can win back his girlfriend.

The whole time there is building chemistry between Nate and Izzy, but the entire goal in the end is for Nathaniel to win back his girlfriend before she marries another by Sunday, so this is a slow building romance, but it’s sweet and endearing and contains so much more than just the end goal that this might just be my favorite in the Soul Mate series.

Sneak Peek – Married by Sunday by Sarah Ready

When opposites attract love may be ignited.

Married by Sunday, an all-new, laugh-out-loud, romantic comedy standalone from Sarah Ready is coming March 22nd, and we have your first look!

Sneak Peek

“Sir?” the snack cart man says. “Coffee?”
The man next to me gives the snack cart vendor a distracted look and then a sharp nod. He holds up his finger to indicate he’d like one large coffee.
Well. He’s not very friendly, is he?
But he is getting coffee…
My stomach gives a tight hungry clench. I make my decision, because honestly, hunger is a great motivator. Plus, it’s fate.
“Devon, anything else?” I ask. I’ve decided that the man next to me is named Devon. He looks like a Devon.
Clearly, he doesn’t answer, because he’s on the phone, ignoring everyone but the crazy-in-love lady on the other end.
I turn back to the snack cart man and smile apologetically. “He’s on the phone with his sister, she’s causing him all sorts of trouble. You see, my husband and I are on our honeymoon and all we wanted was a little time to ourselves. But family…” I shrug. “You know how it is.”
“What does he want then?” asks the man impatiently. There are gobs of people waiting for snacks in the rows ahead of us.
I tilt my head and study the menu pasted to the side of the cart. I lick my lips. “He’ll have that coffee with cream and sugar. A ham and cheese croissant. A chocolate chip muffin. And, hmmm a bag of salt and vinegar chips.”
The snack vendor grunts and starts pulling out the food. I horde it, gathering it on my lap.
“Anything for you?”
I nod, my eyes going glassy from the food smells wafting up to me. “I’ll have a blueberry muffin. An apple. Another ham and cheese croissant. And a large coffee, no cream, but lots of sugar.”
My stomach twists again and I lick my lips.
I set the food in my lap, and then pull out the tray to put the coffee on. It’s steaming and smells so good that I almost start crying again.
The vendor uses an old blocky calculator to ring up the total.
“Twenty-six dollars,” he says.
I look at the vendor, then I look at Devon, then back at the vendor and shrug.
“Please. You can’t possibly get married Sunday. Fine. Bye. I’ll see you—” Devon sighs and clutches his head for a second then he turns to the vendor. It looks like his phone conversation is done. “How much?” he asks.
“Twenty-six dollars.”
Devon’s eyebrows scrunch down and he scowls at the vendor. “For a large? How much do you charge for a small?”
The large-nosed vendor rolls his eyes. “The coffees are four dollars. The croissants ten. The muffins, eight. The apple-”
“I don’t want all that, I just want coffee.”
“Your wife ordered for you,” the vendor says.
“What wife? I don’t have a wife.” Devon looks a little confused and a whole lot offended.
I give the vendor a sweet smile. “It’s a game we play. Being newlyweds. Devon thinks it’s funny.”
Devon gives me an appalled look, and I think he’s only just realized that I’m in the seat next to him. “Excuse me? We’re not married.”
I look back at the vendor. “See?” I open my eyes wide and flutter my lashes. “Come on Devon, don’t be that way.”
I didn’t think it was possible, but Devon becomes even more stiff-backed and starched looking.

Blog Tour – Josh and Gemma Make a Baby by Sarah Ready

When the baby-making ends will something else begin?

Josh and Gemma Make a Baby, an all new laugh-out-loud friends-to-lovers romantic comedy from bestselling author Sarah Ready is available now!

New Year’s Resolution:
Have a baby
Preferably with Josh Lewenthal

Meet Gemma Jacobs. She’s driven, energetic, and a positive thinker. She has a great career working for famed self-help guru Ian Fortune, she lives in a cute studio apartment in Manhattan, and her family is supportive and loving (albeit a little kooky). Her life is perfect. Absolutely wonderful.

Except for one tiny little thing.

After a decade of disastrous relationships and an infertility diagnosis, Gemma doesn’t want a Mr. Right (or even a Mr. Right Now), she just wants a baby.

And all she needs is an egg, some sperm, and IVF.

So Gemma makes a New Year’s resolution: have a baby.

Josh Lewenthal is a laid back, relaxed, find-the-humor-in-life kind of guy. The polar opposite of Gemma. He’s also her brother’s best friend. For the past twenty years Josh has attended every Jacobs’ family birthday, holiday, and event – he’s always around.

Gemma knows him. He’s nice (enough), he’s funny (-ish), he’s healthy (she thinks) and he didn’t burn any ants with a magnifying glass as a kid. Which, in Gemma’s mind, makes him the perfect option for a sperm donor.

So Gemma wants to make a deal. An unemotional, business-like arrangement. No commitments, just a baby.

To Gemma’s surprise, Josh agrees.

They have nothing in common, except their agreement to make a baby and their desire to keep things businesslike.

But the thing about baby-making…it’s hard to keep it businesslike, it’s nearly impossible to keep it unemotional, and it’s definitely impossible to keep your heart out of the mix. Because when you’re making a baby together, things have a way of starting to feel like you’re making other things too – like a life, and a family, and love. And when the baby-making ends, you wish that everything else didn’t have to end too.

Excerpt

Josh is on my bed.
What the heck?
It’s like he has some sort of super-psychic power that lets him know when a woman needs him. I think about him stealing my undies all those years ago and I realize that yes, he probably does have a secret power. Some sort of man radar—mandar.
We haven’t really spoken in years, except for the casual greeting at the New Year’s party or a “hi, how are you” at a random friends and family get together. Yet here he is, right when I need him.
I step into my bedroom and shut the door. Josh is spread out on my pink lace coverlet, his arms behind his head, and his legs crossed—the picture of relaxation. He’s in his standard outfit, faded jeans and a tight T-shirt depicting some obscure graphic novel character. His black hair needs a trim and he has at least two days’ worth of dark stubble on his face.
Even though I’m indifferent to him as a person and I know for a fact he’s not my type, my lady parts still clench. He’s that good looking.
He smirks at me, like he knows the effect he’s having. Here’s the thing about Josh, he’s completely unable to take life seriously. It’s like the whole universe is a funny joke to him, and he’s just living his life so he can be amused.
When he graduated from high school he was voted the most likely to succeed. He was captain of the football team, the basketball team, homecoming king and the valedictorian. Everyone thought he was going places. Especially me.
After he graduated from college he took a job at a tech start-up, worked his way up the ranks to VP, and then according to my brother, he just woke up one day and decided to quit. He walked into the office, took a box out of the supply closet, packed up his desk, and walked out. Ever since then he’s been doing his web comic thing. But I guess if he’s living with his dad again, it’s not going all that well.
I look him over. The thing is, I’m not sussing him out as a prospective husband, I don’t care about his career goals, how big his paycheck is, or whether he lives in his dad’s basement. I don’t care about his potential or non-potential as a life mate. I’m thinking about his genetics. And his genetics are just fine.
I close the door with a sharp snick.
“What are you doing on my bed?” I ask.
His eyes, always full of sharp intelligence, take in my sauce-covered dress and the blush still lingering on my cheeks.
“What are you doing covered in barbecue?” A small smile flits over his lips and his forehead wrinkles as he takes in my appearance.
My outfit from earlier is folded in a neat pile and sitting on my dresser. Josh starts to stand up.
“Stay there. I need to talk to you.”
I decide that rather than risk him leaving while I change, I’ll talk to him covered in sauce.
“Alright.” He scoots over and pats my bed.
I give him a look and he shrugs. “Sorry. I was up all night finishing a storyboard. Whenever I stayed the night with Dylan, your mom would always give me your bed to sleep in. I didn’t think, it just seemed natural to…”
He trails off when he sees the expression on my face. I’m not sure how I feel about the fact that Josh has apparently been sleeping in my childhood bedroom for years.
I look at my dresser and realize that my teenage diary is in the top drawer hidden under my underwear. My skin prickles with, yup, that’s embarrassment. I look at the dresser then at Josh, but he doesn’t seem any different than usual. Maybe he’s not a snooper. Probably, yes, probably he never read it. Because if he had…errr…my teenage self was not shy about fantasizing about him.
I settle onto the mattress next to him.
He clears his throat and scoots over. “So what’s up?”
Oh God.
Am I really going to do this?
Can I do this?
It seemed perfectly reasonable and normal when I was planning it out after my doctor’s appointment. I looked more into donor sperm and weighed the benefits and detriments of donor versus Josh. Every way I looked at it, Josh came out on top.
He gives me a funny look. “Gemma? What’s up? You alright?”
“I need your sperm,” I blurt out.
Josh starts to choke, then he coughs. His face turns red and he hits his chest.
Oh no. I’ve killed him.
He coughs and his eyes water.
I slap his back and he shakes his head.
Maybe I shouldn’t have just blurted it out like that, but I was nervous and I didn’t think.
Finally, he takes a wheezing breath and says, “Come again?”
“I…I need your sperm?”
I smile at him. The look he gives me makes my hand fly to my mouth in an effort to contain the laugh bubbling up from my chest. Oh jeez, I’ve lost my brain. I should’ve written talking points or a speech or something.
“You want to have sex?” Josh asks. He looks really confused. “Gemma. You really have to work on your pick-up lines.”
I shake my head. But he’s already starting to lift his shirt up. I catch a glimpse of rock-hard abs. “If you want to, we can. But we’ll have to hurry. The New Year’s Resolution reading is soon. We have maybe ten minutes. Not that I can’t blow your mind in ten minutes.”
I scoot back and make a strangled sound.
He takes in my expression and starts to snicker.
“Kidding. Gemma, I’m kidding,” he says, and he drops his shirt.
I nod and blow out a long, mind-clearing breath. “Sorry, I didn’t say that right. What I meant to say was, ummm, we’ve known each other a long time.”
“Twenty-four years,” he agrees.
“Right. We grew up in the same town. Went to the same school. You’re my brother’s best friend. You come to our holiday parties, birthdays. You’re always around.”
I scrutinize his face to see if he gets where I’m going. Unfortunately, he just looks confused.
“I feel like I know you pretty well. I can say that you’re a decent guy.”
He frowns. “Thanks.”
“If I ask you something, do you promise not to tell Dylan, or anybody?”
Josh leans back and studies me. “Gem, I don’t think we should have sex.”
I close my eyes. “No. No, jeez. Obviously. Ugh, did it once, got the T-shirt.”
I open one eye and look at him, then I open the other.
He grins at me. “The T-shirt huh?”

Josh and Gemma Make a Baby
(A standalone)

Publication Date: January 25, 2022

Genre/Tropes: Romantic Comedy

Author: Sarah Ready

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

I was hooked from the first line!

Gemma wants a baby and after she does a lot of roadbumping, but inspirational thinking, she comes to the conclusion that her brother’s best friend is the man who should provide the other half of the DNA to her baby. What’s not to love?

Told from Gemma’s POV, her entire life she’s been misdirected and heartbroken by love. As much as that has happened, she is still an optimist, mixed with a healthy dose of realist, when she comes to the decision to have a baby all on her own. She doesn’t need a prince charming to sweep her off her feet to have a family, she just needs what prince charming can provide to make that family happen.

Josh has been in her family’s lives for most of her life. He’s been there for most of their family functions tagging along as her brother’s best friend, so it could be why she thought of him first when the doctor asked who the donor would be. Now she just needed to ask him. That won’t be awkward, considering she hadn’t actually talked to him in a few years. Right?

Adorably sweet, full of inspiration, and moments of loss and love. It’s a great mix of a contemporary, romantic comedy.

This book is a slow burn, even though there is baby making involved. It’s also filled with Sarah’s brand of ridiculousness, and a bit of a love triangle just to help mix up Gemma’s life even more.

Sneak Peek for Josh and Gemma Make a Baby by Sarah Ready

They have nothing in common, except their agreement to make a baby and their desire to keep things businesslike.

Josh and Gemma Make a Baby, an all-new opposites attract, romantic comedy from Sarah Ready is coming January 25th, and we have your first look!

Chapter 1

When I was a little kid, I worshiped Josh Lewenthal, now, I couldn’t care less about him, I just need his sperm.

I’ll be the first to admit, I have no idea how to go about getting it, but as my obscenely sexy boss, famed self-help guru Ian Fortune, always says, “anything is possible if you put your mind to it.”

That’s my motto for this year. Starting today, January first, I’m going to believe that anything is possible—that magic can happen. And after thirty-two years of being average in nearly every way, magic will be a welcome change.

Josh and I grew up in a small river town a few hours north of New York City. It’s the type of town that has a Christmas tree in the square, a pumpkin carving contest in the fall, and an ice cream social in the summer. The houses are cookie-cutter cute, the yards are golf course green, and everybody waves hello. It’s a kid-friendly, all-American paradise. My family fit right in.

Josh moved to town with his dad when he was eight. Within days my mom warned me to stay away from him.

“Why?” I asked.

“Because he’s not the sort of boy that nice girls play with.”

“Why?” I asked again. I was in that “why” phase that all kids go through.

“Because I said so.”

Well.

My mom was right. I was a nice girl. She dressed me in pink poufy dresses and pigtails to prove it. But instead of listening to my mom I snuck out of the house and went and found Josh Lewenthal. I guess there’s a lesson there. Even when I was little I couldn’t take “because I said so” as an answer.

I found Josh kicking a ball in his backyard. He told me the reason nice girls couldn’t play with him was because he knew how girls got babies in their bellies. To prove it, he smacked a kiss on my mouth. I was terrified for weeks that I was going to blow up like a balloon and pop out a baby. After a month I realized that Josh Lewenthal was full of crap and that my mom had been right.

But that didn’t stop me from idolizing him. My brother Dylan and Josh became best friends. And like little sisters around the world I wanted to do everything they did and be everywhere they were.

When I was sixteen my big sister Leah came home from college for Christmas break. Within days she told me to stop ogling Josh.

“Why?” I asked. I was still in the “why” phase.

“Because if he catches you looking he’ll steal your underwear.”

I didn’t know what she meant. “Why?”

“Because he collects underwear for a hobby and pins them on his bedroom wall. He has almost every girl’s undies in this whole town. He’ll tear them off you and then do things.”

Leah lowered her voice to a whisper. “Marie Johnson said his hands are like an octopus’s. Everywhere at once.”

I was appalled and then intrigued. But, “I don’t think he’ll want my underwear. Dylan is his best friend. Plus, I’m not really into that kind of thing.” You know, being a nice girl and all.

“It doesn’t matter,” said Leah, full of big sister knowledge. “He just has to look at you and you’ll rip your undies off for him. He’s that good. An octopus, Gemma. You better stop ogling him.”

I was skeptical, to say the least.

But six months later, while I was cleaning up my parents’ garage after Josh and Dylan’s joint high school graduation party, Josh told me he’d miss me while he was in New York for college. Then, lo and behold, he stole my panties. Metaphorically, of course.

For the second time in my life, I spent another few weeks terrified that I was going to blow up like a birthday balloon and pop out a baby.

After weeks of toe-numbing worry followed by my period and sweet sagging relief, I realized that Josh Lewenthal was not worth my fascination/worship/idolization, that he was in fact an immature/emotionally constipated user.

I didn’t see him again for six years.

By the time he came back to town I’d been married, divorced, and was long past mooning over fantasies.

I had an apartment in the city and my current (amazing) job, social media marketing coordinator for acclaimed self-help guru Ian Fortune. And I had goals. Lots of goals.

I mean…today I have goals.

Okay. A goal.

And Josh Lewenthal, the man who knows how to make a baby, is integral to my success.

Synopsis

Review:

Oh, Lord, the town of love is hot, hot, HOT!!

In this second chance romance, Sarah Ready brings the steam, intense plot, and soul deep love to Romeo, NY and it’s her hottest book yet.

Emma and Andrew have known each other since childhood and they share the same passion when it comes to finding the lost treasures of the world. They fell in love when they were teenagers, but were torn apart for a decade. When Emma lands in Romeo, NY after losing everything, she is told she will find not only her soulmate but the lost treasure of Romeo, Emma finally has hope for the first time in ten years.

Andrew and Emma may have spent the last decade apart, but everytime they are together they have passion and their deep, lifelong love leaps off the page. No matter what plans or thoughts they may have had before, fly out of the window when they see one another. It’s like you can literally see their souls reaching out to one another, wrapping up, and twineing around each other so they never leave each others side. It’s really beautiful and intense.

I loved this passionate story that was a little Indiana Jones and all about love.

There’s just one itty bitty little problem.

Gavin’s engaged to marry another woman.

Romance by the Book; Soul Mates in Romeo #3
(A standalone within a series)

Publication Date: September 14, 2021

Genre/Tropes: Romantic Comedy/Enemies-to-Lovers/Contemporary Romance

Author: Sarah Ready

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

I completely lose myself in Sarah Ready’s books and I never want to return to reality. I lose all track of time and space once I begin reading and I hate leaving her worlds every single time.

Romance by the Book is another fantastic Ready hit! The push-pull, love-hate chemistry of William and Jessie is pure soul mate gold! From the time this couple first met at the young age of eight until they finally admit their undying love their story is full of all the wonderful  romcom classics that unfortunately go horribly wrong.

Romance by the Book is fun, flirty, and full of chemistry, but it also has wonderful moments of heart. Sarah writes about love – real lasting love from the perspective of the residents of Romeo. This is a beautiful reminder about why people fall in love and then continue to stay in love. It’s a story that takes a stroll down those butterfly feelings in the very beginning of a relationship, but then continues through the ups and down, through sickness and health, etc… and what it means to still be together after fifty years together as a couple. What is the secret formula to love or is being a soul mate enough? I love how each couple that William and Jessie meet impart a bit of wisdom or advice to what the secret is.

William and Jessie have known each other for twenty years by the time they both venture down this path and a lot of the fun in this story revolves around Jessie getting Gavin, William’s twin brother, to actually fall into her classic romcom traps, while William does everything in his power to keep that from happening.  Oh, there is a lot of backstory into why she wants Gavin and why William is cast as the villian, but the backstory is what gives this book all the extra feels. They both have their preconceived notions about one another, or even a fantasy, but what may be going wrong could actually be going right.

I continually love returning to this small town that is all about love. This book was a brilliant story about redemption, forgiveness and following your heart. I can’t wait to return once again and see who the next soul mate match will be.

Blog Tour – Love Not at First Sight by Sarah Ready

Love Not at First Sight, an all new charming and emotional contemporary romance from author Sarah Ready is available now!

When your soul mate is the man you loathed at first sight…Book Two in Sarah Ready’s Soul Mates in Romeo series sparkles with tension and a delicious helping of swoon-worthy romance.

Veronica Diaz loves her career, her friends and the great outdoors – she has no room in her life for men. In fact, she knows there are only two types of men in the world: players and wanna-be players and she wants nothing to do with any of them.

So when a psychic informs Veronica that her fated soul mate is Frederick Knight “The King of Players,” Veronica does what any sensible woman would do – she runs.

A twist of fate lands Veronica in the depths of a pitch-black cave system with a man she’s never met and can’t see. As Veronica and Sam struggle to survive they open up, share their secrets, and risk their lives for each other. Soon Veronica starts to wonder if maybe not all men are players, and maybe she can trust Sam enough to fall in love.

The only problem: Sam is actually Frederick Knight. The man Veronica swore she’d never, ever, ever love.

In fact, she loathed him at first sight.

And if they make it out of the cave alive, and Veronica sees him for the first time, she’ll loathe him again. Won’t she?

But maybe, sometimes you can only see who someone really is when you can’t see them at all? And maybe you can only fall in love when it’s not at first sight?

Excerpt

I kick my legs, fighting to pull the woman to the surface. I have a hold of her beneath her arms. She’s a dead weight and I pray that she’s okay, that she didn’t get hurt in the fall. The icy water urges me to kick harder. There’s no light. I can’t tell up from down. I’m going on pure instinct, and a prayer, please God, let me be swimming toward air.

I kick harder. My heart pounds in my ears and my lungs ache. Maybe I chose the wrong direction. Up was down, or down was up and I’m swimming to the bottom of the water. I start to panic. Then, just when I’m about to turn around, reverse direction, we break the surface. I gasp, drag in a harsh breath then cough and sputter. I draw the woman’s head higher. Float on my back and hold her against my chest. She coughs and sputters.

Then, “Are you okay?” she asks. Her voice is ragged and soft.

Before I can answer, her head falls again to my chest and her body goes limp.

My blood goes cold.

“I’m okay. Are you alright?”

She doesn’t answer, she lies heavy and still against me. I kick my legs to keep us at the surface and feel for her pulse. I let out a sigh of relief, it’s strong and steady. At least there’s that. She shivers and I’m reminded of how cold the water is. Like an ice bath. We’re going to get hypothermia if I don’t get us out of it soon.

But I can’t see. There’s no light. I dropped my phone when I went to grab her. I saw her flashlight fly from her grasp. Then I remember my watch. It’s a waterproof divers watch, a twenty-thousand-dollar piece that my sister bought me last year for my birthday. She laughed because she said she’d spent my money to get it. I’ve worn it ever since. Thank the Lord. I press a button on the side and the display glows. It gives a dim light that barely illuminates the space around my hand. I hold up my arm and twist the watch in the air. The light catches on the white stone and reflects around the cavern. The water that was black in the pitch dark is turquoise and clear where the light hits. There. About twenty feet away I can just make out what looks like water hitting rock. I can’t be sure. The light is too dim. But I swim that way because right now it’s our best chance.

I’m breathing hard and shivering harder by the time I reach the rock wall.

“We made it,” I tell the woman. I lift her onto the rock first, roll her onto the surface and then I climb out after her. Water sluices onto the rock and runs around us. It’s cold. It’s too damn cold. I feel for the woman’s pulse. It’s still strong, but her skin is like ice and she’s shaking.

“You’ll be okay,” I say. I keep talking, because it’s so dark and quiet in here that any voice, even my own, is better than the silence. “I’ve never been so scared as when I saw you fall,” I tell her. I keep my voice low and soothing. I don’t know how we’re going to get out of here. Or even if there is a way out. My phone is gone, hers is likely in her pack which is still up on the stalagmite at the top of the crevice. To be sure I pat her pockets. Carefully. I don’t want her waking up thinking I’m some creep taking advantage. Nothing. They’re empty. Not that a phone could get reception down in the depths of a cave.

“We’ll get out of here,” I tell her. I put my hand on her arm. Dang, she’s cold. “I’ll get you out of here. I promise.”

I hear a scratching noise and then a rhythmic crunch, crunch, scratch. The hair on the back of my neck stands up. There’s something else here with us.

I hit the display of my watch and look around. Nothing. I can’t see anything. I hold it over the woman. I can barely make out the shape of her face.

She shivers again and I make a decision. I have to get her warm and I have to get her to help. I think the most urgent thing right now is getting warm.

But how?

Body heat. But first we need out of these soaking wet clothes.

“Damnit.”

I kick off my shoes and socks and then pull off my T-shirt. I wring the water out of them and set them out on the rock. Then, I strip down to my boxers and wring out my shorts. I’m too cold to feel awkward. I jump up and down and rub my hands over my clammy skin. Then I kneel down next to the woman.

I untie and pull off her hiking boots and socks. Then I work the soaking wet long-sleeved shirt over her head. I wring it out and put it next to her socks and boots. I feel around in the dark for the buttons to her pants. The skin of her stomach is cold and taut.

I find the button.

Suddenly, her hand lashes out and grabs my throat. She squeezes and I freeze.

“Take off my pants and I’ll kill you and leave your body in the dark.”

New Release – Love Not at First Sight by Sarah Ready

Love Not at First Sight, an all new not to be missed enemies-to-lovers contemporary romance from author Sarah Ready is available now!

Love Not at First Sight; Soul Mates in Romeo #2
(An interconnected standalone within a series)

Publication Date: July 20, 2021

Genre/Tropes: Small Town/Soulmate/Contemporary Romance

Author: Sarah Ready

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

A visceral book that had my heart pounding and my blood racing numerous times. This wasn’t a typical Sarah Ready book that had me snort laughing, instead I was turning pages so fast that I completely devoured this thing in just a couple hours because I had to make sure this couple survived their adventure AND fell in love!

We are back in the small town of Romeo where soulmates run supreme and the psychic matchmaker, Aunt Erma, has a very high track record of predicting everlasting love. Veronica wants nothing to do with the big L word and certainly wants nothing to do with Erma’s forecast on her love life. Veronica is so dead set on not meeting the man of her supposed dreams that she runs away. She runs deep into the woods where no one, especially her soulmate, will find her, unfortunately she runs right into a man.

Sam needs to hit pause on his life, it has sort of spiraled out of control. After his now ex-business partner and ex-wife just had a baby together, Sam begins to rethink about how his life is going and where he thought he would be. Sam decides to get away from everyone and everything, but plunging into a dark cave in the small town of Romeo and barely surviving isn’t exactly what he had in mind. At least he met Veronica in the dark and if he had to go through it all again, he wouldn’t have wanted to be lost and in peril with anyone else.

With all the same soulmate quirks and destiny qualities I love about this Romeo series, I quickly fell in love with everything in this book. While my heart basically beat out of my chest the entire time, I actually loved the action and all the twists in this second book. I can hardly wait for the next person to fall in love and see what happens in Romeo.
