This is the Lords’ universe filled with darkness and anti-heroes and Tyson Crawford runs the underworld of this very dark community.

The Sacrifice is everything Shantel warns so don’t jump into the deep end if you can’t swim.

Tyson is unabashedly unforgiving, as that is pretty much the Lord way, so when he marries Laikyn Maisen, for revenge, from the getgo it’s brutal and super filthy.

Should we expect anything less from a Lord? No.

What I shouldn’t be surprised about is that even we the reader are left in the dark about what exactly that revenge is all about.

This book is wrapped in intrigue and we are left in the dark just as much as his wife.

What we do know is that Tyson has been playing the long game and that he has been putting pieces in motion for years.

Do these two have a happy ending…that much is gripping and nail biting right up until the end.

While I agree it helps to understand the Lord hierarchy and dark underbelly of the world Tyson and Layken are in, you can certainly read The Sacrifice as a standalone and still enjoy it for the dark indulgence that it is without having read the prior books.

“Here.” Tyson offers me the second glass of whiskey and I look from it to him, making no attempt to accept it. “I didn’t drug it,” he growls.

“I don’t believe you.” I lift my chin.

Break every rule, cross every line and jump into the taboo world of The Lords. This book was intense with a capital I!!

Walking the dark line in this world means opening yourself to the devil and the devil has his eye on his own personal demon. I’d like to call Sin and Elli toxic, but their relationship is their own kink and probably the only thing non-toxic in their dark world. Don’t worry it makes sense.

This book is heavy and super dark. Definitely Shantel’s darkest to date, where she delves into lots of morally gray territories. Please make sure to read her TW’s if this kind of book makes you pause. Personally, I love reading how characters back themselves into corners, even the kind with no moral codes to speak of, because sooner or later that character will need to get themselves out of that corner and when they do those slippery morals are so fun to watch as they spin them around. That anticipation, that rush of what they will do, is fun to read.

Elli and Sin cross so many boundaries, it could make a reader cringe, and in a normal world, for every action their should be a consequence, but this dark world doesn’t have normal consequences and like I said above you either like this dark world or you don’t. Sin has no f…cares to give. Like, seriously none. Well, maybe one, Elli is his. His little demon. Aside from that get out of his way.

I love delving into the darkness that Shantel creates every-single-time. It’s a thrill and fascinating ride. The Sinner did not disappoint.

“I’m leaving,” Elli announces, lifting her chin.
I sidestep to make sure I’m not blocking the exit.
Her shoulders fall but she quickly recovers. My little demon wants to be chased. Held captive. She just thought she belonged to me before, but things are getting ready to change. And not in her favor.
Huffing, she reaches down and grabs her bag, and I wait until she passes me before I turn and speak. “You won’t get far.”
She comes to a stop, slowly turning back to face me, her ice-blue eyes narrowing at my statement. “Excuse me?”
I step into her and reach up, pushing some loose strands of bleach-blond hair behind her ear. “Go ahead, run away if that makes you feel better about yourself. But you won’t get far.”
“Sin.” She sighs, getting annoyed. “What you did last night was unacceptable. You almost killed—”
I laugh, cutting her off. Almost? She shoves my chest.
“You didn’t care last time I killed a man for you. Or the time before that.” I’m up to three dead men for her. And I’ll kill many more if need be.
Her eyes drop to the floor, and I reach out, cupping her face while running my thumb over her bottom lip. “Let that be a lesson, Elli. If a man touches you, it’ll be the last thing he does.” I push my thumb between her lips. The action forcing her head back to meet my stare.
Wrapping her plump lips around it, she creates suction as I slowly pull it out. “Was that my punishment?” she whispers, remembering what I did to her last night.
I smile at her. “No, little demon. That was for fun.”
She whimpers, and I love the way her breathing picks up at the thought that making her bleed was meant to be fun. She can try to tell me she didn’t enjoy it, but we both know that would be a lie.
“I have something much more enjoyable in mind for your punishment.”
Nibbling on her bottom lip, she asks, “Enjoyable for you or for me?”
“That’s for you to find out.”

She stares out the window, holding the ice pack to the side of her face. It angers me that the pathetic man hit her. Men like him are weak. He needed his ass beat. I’ll do it. Later. Her evening gown was supposed to make her look like a princess, but it’s ripped up her thigh, and my eyes keep going to the lace material that covers her pussy.
“Where is home?” she asks, not bothering to look at me.
I take a sip of my drink.
Her head slowly turns to finally look me in the eyes. Her porcelain face is tight, nose scrunched, eyes looking smaller by the second as she glares at me. I half expect her to throw the ice pack at my face. And that turns me on.
Fight me, beautiful.
She sighs heavily, making her chest rise and fall with irritation. “Is it in another country?”
“Does it matter?” I finally ask.
“Yes,” she hisses, slamming the ice pack to her lap. “You’re kidnapping me.”
I bite back a smile. “Honey, I paid for you.”
That just seems to enrage her more. She starts speaking a different language. “Excuse me?”
Her words cut off, and she takes in a deep breath, the action making her chest rise again, and this time, I allow myself to watch the way her breasts bounce from the motion, making my cock hard.
“I called you a pompous, self-absorbed son of a bitch,” she clarifies with a bite and adds, “in Italian.”
I take a drink from my glass and smile behind it. She’s exactly what I expected a female Bianchi to be—fucking fire.
My cell rings, and I pull it out of my pocket to see it’s Luca. “Hello?”
“So it went well?” he rushes out. “You’ve got Mia?”
“Yes,” I say, taking another drink.
He lets out a long breath. “Thanks, Bones.” The sound of appreciation in his voice makes my chest tighten. Why has he kept her a secret all these years? Where the hell has she been? If he cared so much, why did he allow this? Between him and the Kings, we could have protected her. He has to know that we would have done whatever he needed for her. All he had to do was ask. We protect our own. I consider Luca a brother.
I look up at her to see her beautiful eyes already on mine. The soft glow of the purple lights makes them look exotic—like a rare diamond. A look of concern covers her pretty, bruised face. The ice pack is now on the floor—long forgotten.
“You saved her,” he whispers, then clears his throat. “But you do whatever you have to do. Do you understand?”
“I understand.”

This hate-to-love romance book is walking such a thin margin that it’s almost non-existent. Shantel Tessier pulled out all the stops along the enemies-to-lovers trope and left nothing untouched. So, buckle up for this glorious ride into the forbidden and dark underbelly of degradation.

Raylee and Colton have been twisted up in a game of push and pull, hate and loathing for six long years. Ever since their parents married one another when they were in high school. However, their hate was a mask to shield their desire and longing and the more time that went along the more flames they added to the fire.

Sabotage is not a book for the faint of heart, nor is it a book for someone who doesn’t like diving into forbidden or dark stories. Raylee and Colton push every boundary and poke every vulnerability, but they are also perfect for each other in every way possible.

There is one very intense scene that literally took my breath away and Shantel had me so wrapped up in the moment, where I was so immersed in the scene, that my house could have been burning down around me and I wouldn’t have noticed.

Hats off to Tessier for creating characters that are always gritty and raw and for taking chances outside of the norm. It will keep me coming back and certainly keep me turning pages late into the night.

RYAT

Loyalty Freshman year at Barrington University I KNEEL IN the middle of the darkly lit room along with twenty other men. My hands are secured tightly behind my back with a pair of handcuffs. My shirt is torn, and blood drips from my busted lips. I’m panting, still trying to catch my breath while my heart beats like a drum in my chest. It’s hard to hear over the blood rushing in my ears, and I’m sweating profusely. 

We were dragged out of our beds in the middle of the night to serve. Our freshman classes at Barrington University start in two weeks, but we already have to show our loyalty to the Lords. 

“You will always have to prove yourself,”my father once told me. “You were each given a task,”the man calls out as he paces in front of us. His black combat boots slap against the concrete floor with each step, the sound echoing off the walls. “Kill or be killed. Now how many of you can fulfill it?” 

“I can,” I state, lifting my head to stick my chin out in the warm and sticky air. Sweat covers my brow after the fight. It’s rigged. You are supposed to lose. The point is to wear you down. See just how much you have to give. How far you can go. I made sure to win mine. No matter what it took.

 He smirks down at me like I’m fucking joking. “Ryat. You seem so confident in yourself.” 

“I know what I’m capable of handling,”I say through gritted teeth. I don’t like being second-guessed. We were each raised for this—to be a Lord. 

Wealth got us here.

 Yet our determination will separate us by the time it’s over. 

The man looks at the guy on my left and nods. The guy walks behind me and yanks me to stand by the back of my shirt. He undoes the cuffs, and I rip the shredded material up and over my head before dropping my hands to my sides when what I really want to do is rub my sore wrists. 

Never show weakness. A Lord does not feel. He’s a machine. 

The man steps up to me with a knife in hand. He holds it out handle first to me, his black eyes almost glowing with excitement. “Show us what you can do.”

Taking it from him, I walk over to the chair bolted to the floor. I yank the bloody sheet off the chair to reveal a man tied to it. His hands are cuffed behind his back, and his feet are spread wide and secured to the chair legs. 

I’m not surprised I know him—he’s a Lord. Or was. The fact that he’s restrained tells me he’s not anymore. But that doesn’t change my orders. 

Kill without questions.

 You want to be powerful? Then you realize you are a threat to those who want your position. In order to succeed, you don’t have to be stronger, just deadlier. 

The man shakes his head, his brown eyes pleading with me to spare his life. Multiple layers of duct tape are placed over his mouth—those who spill secrets will be silenced. He thrashes in his chair. 

Walking behind him, I look down at his cuffed wrists. He wears a ring on his right hand; it’s a circle with three horizontal lines across the middle. It stands for power.

 Not just anyone would know what it means, but I do. Because I wear the same one. Everyone in this room does. But just because you get one doesn’t mean you’ll keep it. 

I reach down and grab his hand. He begins to shout behind the tape as he tries to fight me, but I remove the ring easily and walk back around to stand in front of him. “You don’t deserve this,”I say to him, placing it in my pocket. “You betrayed us, your brothers, yourself. The payment for that is death.”

When he throws his head back and screams into the tape, I press the knife to his neck, right below his jawline. His breathing fills the room, and his body strains, waiting for the first cut. 

A Lord does not show mercy. Blood and tears are what we demand from those who betray us.

Lords are important members of society, anything from senators to CEO’s and they are lawless within their world. Ryat loves the order, the rush, the power, the dominance of it all and he’s been a stellar member following every rule. Now it’s senior year and it’s time for his reward and her name is Blakely.

There are so many layers to this story, which Shantel is a master at revealing at the opportune time. Then she gives the appearance that nothing is what is seems until your mind is completely blown. This is what makes her storytelling brilliant! Her twisty plots intertwined with dark themes continually draw me back to her books. The Ritual is right up there as one that had me turning pages at all hours needing to figure out what was going to happen next. I loved it!

The Ritual is dark and totally pushes boundaries with how filthy it is, but everything is perfectly in line with these characters and fits within the bound of their kink. She does give warning in the beginning so heed them if they are too much for you, but it’s all part of the plot and fits the lives of the characters. Enjoy the darkness, I did.

She slides in, and I make my way to the driver’s side. Starting it up, I look over at her. “Where to?” I meant it more as a “where do you live?” but what I wanted to say and the words that actually came out were two very different things. 

She looks over at me. “Wherever you want to go.”

That’s an open invitation if I’ve ever heard one. Obviously, she doesn’t want me at her house, or she would have suggested that. “Kingdom?”I question, unable to keep my eyes from dropping to her legs as she runs her hands over her jeans. Her nails are kept short and painted black. She wears a silver banded ring on her right hand. It’s plain yet dainty at the same time. 

“I don’t gamble,” she states. 

My eyes meet hers. “Neither do I.”

What I have planned for her is much more intimate. I mean, if she’s into a crowd watching, then that’s fine too. I’m not shy. 

She laughs, leaning her head back against the headrest, and smiles softly at me. Her green eyes drop to my jeans, and I refrain from groaning at the thoughts that run through my mind. My hand in her hair while she’s bent over the center console with her lips wrapped around my cock …“Kingdom it is.” Not wanting to waste another second, I take off, getting the hell out of here. 

We don’t say much during the twenty-minute drive back to the Strip. I keep checking on her to make sure she hasn’t passed out, and every time, she’s looking out the window. 

I pull up around the back of tower one, where the Kings and I have a private entrance. Parking the car, I help her out and up the fifteen stairs that lead to a set of black doors. 

Her drunk eyes take in the white marble floor and black circle with the gold K in the middle when we enter the building. Lifting her head, she notices the mirrored ceiling and chandelier hanging in the entrance. 

Nigel stands behind his black marble desk in the corner. Nigel is our right-hand man. He’s more of a father to us than our actual fathers ever were. Guess it didn’t take him and Titan very long to bury Kenneth. He looks up and smiles at us. “Good evening, Cross. Alexa. It’s good to see you again.” I’m not sure how he knows her other than maybe he met her at Titan’s wedding. 

“You too, Nigel,” she tells him as I scan my key card for our private elevator. Only a King has access to it. Other than him, of course. It opens immediately, and we step inside. I have to refrain from ripping her clothes off right here and now. Just a few more minutes and she’s all mine. 

It comes to a stop on the Royal level to the suite that the Kings share. But no one will be here tonight. Titan hasn’t stayed one night here since he married Emilee. Grave stays at his house with April, and Bones rarely sleeps. I’m sure he’s at Glass—one of the many businesses he owns that we all pretend we don’t know about. 

Stepping into our suite, I turn to face her. “Would you like a drink?”

She places her hands on my chest, gripping my shirt. “I think I’ve had enough.”

My hands go to her hips, and I yank her to me. The thought crosses my mind that this is a mistake. That she’s off-limits to me. I try to think of my best friend and how it would affect him. “I made a promise not to touch you,” I rush out, hoping she pushes me away. 

She surprises me by smiling, and it’s anything but innocent. Her pretty green eyes drop to my lips before returning to mine. “I can keep a secret.” Then her lips are on mine.

An adrenaline filled ride filled with Kings and Queens. It’s written by the Queen of smexy darkness so of course Cross lights up the pages with all of his smolder and grit, but not to be outdone, his gorgeous woman is right by his side tossing the match on anything the Kings can’t bury in the Vegas sand.

Alexa and Cross are a perfect match for one another. From the very beginning of the story Cross is a character that is full of raw emotion. His honesty, his pure hunger for basically everything, including Alexa, burns through him. He doesn’t do anything halfway, so when he decides he wants her, that primal desire ignites into a carnal hunger that even he can’t explain…except that it could be love. However, will Alexa love him, the true him, once all the smoke clears? The monster that lives inside and craves the fire and wants to watch the world burn.

Alexa, aside from Jasmine (and yes, I know she’s still just a secondary character), has turned into one of my favorite heroines in this series. I love that she doesn’t play games, gets offended easily, or run screaming from things that go bump in the night…things that the Kings are notorious for. Alexa is bold and she isn’t shy about what she wants from Cross, which initially is just time spent in his bed, or over a table, or in a chair, or…well you understand. She isn’t looking for anything long term with him and she has no qualms about women who just want a good time and pretty much throughout her time spent with Cross, he’s the one who has to approach her, or more times than not-tell her, because he is a caveman, and every single time he draws a line in the sand and wants more she likes to argue about it. Their relationship, per say, is all kinds of adorable, in the most non-adorable way possible because they are not pursuing a relationship AT all, but sort of stumble into one. Like I said, they are perfect together because they are both a little clueless when it comes to relationships and yet they are both surrounded by lots of couples.

Never forget that this is a dark, mafia book. There is a lot of plot going on around them, but all of that is just frosting on an already delicious cake. Shantel interconnected all of the Kings and other secondary characters extremely well throughout the book to really keep things going while Cross and Alexa try to figure each other out.

Cross has become my favorite King, so far. However, Bones is stacking up some promising factors, but this book is not about him, so back to Cross who I’m completely in love with. Cross is damaged, there is no doubt about it, but I’d also say of the four Kings, he’s the softest. That is like comparing him to a porcupine I know, but I’m sticking to my comparison. Porcupine’s afterall still have a soft underbelly and Cross has a totally soft center when it comes to Alexa. These two truly are a perfect match.

This book has a lot of interconnections to the rest of the series and while Cross can be read as a standalone, it would be better enjoyed if the entire series is read in order.

Mind Blown!! What twisted darkness Shantel has written! I devoured it in one sitting and she has me begging to crawl back for more! Make You Beg is such a demented read and I loved every minute of it!

Law, Dax, Scout, and Rellik (also known as The Reapers) will keep you guessing and certainly keep you twisted in knots until the bitter end. I was pulled every which way and never knew which way to lean as they played with their little doll, Henley. She stuck to her guns and is a very strong heroine, especially when dealing with her ex-best friends.

Trying to get her life back on track after accusing Dax of rape and murder, which he was acquitted of, is hard to do when The Reapers won’t ever let her forget. They pushed, they humiliated, and they certainly brought her to the point where they made her beg. They played with their doll until they all reached their breaking point, but in the end only death will release them from this game. Who will reach it first?

Shantel wove a masterful story and crafted her wicked tale to perfection. I couldn’t put this book down and read it from cover to cover in one sitting. Make You Beg blew me away!
