Adorable, funny, and wittily written, Duke is a gem of sports romantic comedy.

There is magic sprinkled in between the pages when Kayley and Connor write together and I always look forward to reading whatever they write as their books just get better and better.

Callum “Duke” Duquette is not your ordinary grump. He’s a stoic grump, almost unbreakable for even producing a smirk. It took more than a sunshine, sweetheart heroine to break such a smile on Duke’s face, in fact, it took one cheeky Brit who knew just how to work her way under his grumpy skin to break through his stoicness. Millie Darden just so happens to be one of my favorite heroines in this world and a lot of happens to be because of her sarcastic wit and constant need to make Grumpy McGrumplestein tilt his mouth up even the slightest bit.

Millie is fantastically adorable. Her charm is easy to love and she is the perfect offset to the grouchy kicker. Their story is quite believable within the romcom realm, which makes the comedy that much funnier while reading it.

Lastly, think what makes this series extra special, I love the tidbits of sports knowledge that I can share with my spouse and for once he turns off his, “I’m not listening” filter because I’m actually talking about sports. 😂 I guess, what I’m saying is, it’s written in a way, that even I can carry on a conversation with a sports fanatic and I don’t get tuned out. So thank you for writing a wonderful book.❤️

Adorable meet-cute between Stella and Beau in an airport that turned into witty banter through texting and meaningful conversations through phone calls. This relationship was just too cute and it all happened while they were thousand of miles apart. I loved it!!

Such an adorable idea and I loved this couple for all of their sweet moments, but it was unique because they made it happen when they weren’t even in each others presence. In today’s world with all of the technology it probably happens more often than we realize, but on paper this story could have run dry pretty quick. However, Rebecca did a great job of keeping the story engaging and moving right along. I also liked how it bracketed Holly’s story, filling in bits and pieces along the timeline, but still reading as a complete standalone if you so choose.

Synopsis:
It was supposed to be a quick conversation with a cute boy at the airport while I dodged my ex and his new girlfriend.
We weren’t supposed to trade numbers.
He wasn’t supposed to be a football player.
And I definitely wasn’t supposed to fall for him since he’s attending a college a thousand miles away.
I saw past his jersey. And he saw past my last name.
Now it’s semester break, and by some Christmas miracle, he’s going to be close. So close.
I want to meet him again, but there’s just one problem.
My older brother can’t, under any circumstances, find out I’m dating his rival.

Celebrating another birthday is just another reminder that he’s the oldest wide receiver currently playing, along with other horrible memories that surround his birthday, but Jasper, the current QB, and his current roommate, Jasper takes it upon himself to take him out. Instead of a nice quiet dinner that he normally prefers, yes he knows how old that makes him sound, Jasper takes him to a club…yes…a seggesy club and for one night he indulges in a beautiful woman…his Princess. Francesca Lane is a beautiful mix of strong woman and silent strength. On the day she was supposed to be married, which didn’t happen due to a cheating ex, she decided to celebrate her freedom at a masquerade party. She spends one fantastic night, no names, no strings with a stranger and feels completely refreshed…except weeks later she’s feeling run down and can’t seem to shake a bug, but is it?  Then when she figures out who her masked stranger was, well, that is when she runs into him again, and again, and again…well, fate sure has a sense of humor because this is also when she realizes she might not actually be sick.

The secondary characters are so quirky and they added a ton of flavor to the story which brought out the fun and sassy to both Francesca and Tuck. There were lots of LOL moments between everyone, but at the heart they were a found family, which was beautiful, more than anything.

This is a book that once you pick it up you will not set it back down until you reach The End, I know I didn’t. I was completely engrossed in the story of Francesca and Tucker that I had no idea I’d stayed up until 2am…whoops…I loved every second it of it…no regrets!!

When I really stop and think of my favorite trope this is it!! Virgin hero and bookish heroine…it was all the sugary goodness and so much more!!

Grady Miller completely messed up when he introduced himself to Scout Thomas at a party, a woman he sees almost daily when he orders donuts at her truck…ouch. Not only did he potentially mess up the chances of her spitting in his favorite sugar snack, but he messed up in asking her out. How could he screw up so bad? Well….Miller has only ever had one focus in life….hockey…and that leads us to his other problem….which is sort of tied to his lack of finesse in asking out cute donut makers, but I’m getting ahead of myself. Miller is just awkwardly adorable and yes, he may be a famous hockey player, but he also happens to be a virgin. He’s sweet and tenacious and so full of love for the right girl…I loved getting to know Grady Miller while he got to know Scout.

Scout Thomas is the woman behind all the delicious donuts that the hockey team loves to devour. She also has had a crush on Miller for the past couple years, so when he comes up and introduces himself, she is crushed. How could he not recognize her when she knows his favorite donut? However, when he continues to show up and tries really, really hard to redeem himself, it’s basically impossible to stay mad at the large, tenacious man. Their friendship blossoms and then blooms into something more and even she can admit that her crush never went away, but can she really hold the attention of a famous NHL player?

Scoring Chance is light on angst and I adored their text threads (which are always funny in this series) and basically how the two of them (who are not masters at relationships) fell in love. A chef’s kiss story.

This couple is sooooo super sweet; they are that special donut, filled with cream, topped with sprinkles that give you a sugar coma feeling, but you want to eat again and again.

Synopsis:
Scoring on the ice? Piece of cake.
Scoring off it? Well, there’s a reason I’m still a virgin.

I’m not entirely clueless with women, though I do tend to put my foot in my mouth around them far too often.

Like I did with Scout, the donut maker I stupidly introduced myself to despite visiting her truck for years.

Dash begins as sort of a Big D…but oh my heart…he is the biggest cinnamon roll. I love a book that can produce characters with growth and I’m not just talking about Dash’s muscles, while I do love how strong he is, his character is one to deeply fall in love with.

Charlie and Dash initially begin as oil and water and while we get a glimpse of their fiery past before jumping back into their present, it’s their present where I truly fell in love. Dash has major character growth and that man…sigh…he is fantastic. Once he realizes that it’s Charlotte that he wants, his entire life changes. I’m not sure he realizes consciously that she makes him a better man in his everyday life, but it’s all the little things that push him to just be better. It’s really hard not to like the big guy.

Charlotte, or Charlie as her friends call her, has always dreamed of dancing in NY. Like Dash she is driven, hard working and doesn’t give up easily. Hence, a lot of the friction between these two, but that is also what makes their love affair so spicy. She brings out the best in him, while he also does the same for her.

To reiterate, I loved, loved, loved Dash, especially when he became a father, but overall his tender moments were so sweet. The writing really reflected just how big and tough Dash was, he’s a defensive lineman in the NFL and those guys are not tiny, but when it came to caring for his loved ones it truly reflected his gentle heart and that is why this new series written with Kayley and Connor is absolutely fantastic!!

Synopsis:

When seven o’clock arrives, I introduce myself and explain that I’ll be taking over for Professor Connelly. I field a few questions and reassure the students that he’s okay. I also brought in a get well soon card for them to sign. I pass it to the student directly in front of me, then pull up my attendance list and start calling names.

The door opens when I’m halfway through, and a student straggles in. It happened in my English class earlier, but in a class of three hundred students, it’s easier to slip in the back door and quietly find a seat. That’s what I expect this student to do.

Except his phone starts ringing. And it’s not a normal ringtone. It’s a song blaring through the room at full volume.

“Fuck. Shit.” He’s standing in the middle of the room, facing the back of the class, every single student staring at him in wide-eyed horror.

He rummages around in his pocket and pulls out the offending device as Justin Bieber croons “I’m so fucking lonely” to the entire class. Instead of silencing it, he answers the call—on speaker.

A male voice that sounds like an angry father starts yelling. “Why the hell am I getting calls about you being late for practice, you’re—”

He spins around, gaze moving over the class as he takes in their looks of horror. He’s wearing a baseball cap, and the lights above cast a shadow over his face. “Oh, fuck me,” he mutters. “Hey, Dad, I’m in the middle of class. I’ll call you back later.” He rushes the words, so it all sounds quite garbled. Then he drops into the closest empty desk and slams his elbow on the edge on his way down. He sucks in a groan.

I give the student a look that I hope conveys how unimpressed I am. “Are you quite done?” I’m ready to go off on him, but he raises a hand and knocks his hat off his head.

“Uh, sorry, Professor. I think I might be in the wrong class.” His eyes dart around the room. “Or maybe not?”

“Professor Connelly is out for back surgery. Professor Sweet is taking over the class,” the student beside him says.

“Oh shit.” His vibrant green gaze, ringed in hazel, meets mine.

All the air leaves my lungs on a whoosh. The room tilts, and I’m suddenly light-headed. I can tell instantly that he recognizes me, and the silence in the room is deafening. Fortunately, he fills it by rambling out an explanation.

“Sorry about the phone call. And for being late. Coach kept me after practice and my dad’s on my ass because I had a bad game. I’m so sorry, Cl—” He clasps his hands in front of him and bites his lips together.

“Don’t let it happen again.”

My mouth feels like it’s full of cotton, and the rest of me feels disconnected from my body. Because this student, sitting in the middle of my sophomore class, is my summer fling.

My one-night stand who left behind an origami crane and a lot of memories I wish I could now erase.

Eric’s large frame and rugged handsomeness takes the air from my lungs. His hair is pulled back in a man-bun, my fav look on him.
No. I do not have a favorite look for him, but it does show off his ridiculous cheekbones and aristocratic, slightly bent nose.
He’s wearing jeans, gold Converse, and a HU shirt. The lion on the front seems to glare at me—much like he is now.
I lean against the doorjamb. Be cool, be cool. “Howdy, partner.”
He doesn’t smile. “That guy at the laundromat is scary. Stay away from him. I mean it.”
I huff. The nerve of him to tell me what to do.
“That’s what I told you. I repeat, you could have been hurt. Let me handle Connor.”
His arms cross. “How did you get involved with him? Are you on drugs?”
I tuck my hands in my pockets and dip my head so he can’t see how much his words hurt. I know I strip, no one has to remind me, but in prep school, I was the goody-two shoes who never wavered. I had to keep my grades up to keep my scholarship—not that I was ever invited to parties. I wrote poetry. I drew. I daydreamed about him. “Do I look like an addict?”
His golden eyes roam over me. Assessing. “Maybe.”
My throat tingles with words I want to say but know I shouldn’t.
The less he knows, the better.
His nose flares. “I’m trying to help you and you’re giving me the cold shoulder. What’s wrong with you?”
I swallow thickly as I gaze at him. “Eric. Please. Being around me will only smear your good name—”
“Stop,” he calls out, then rubs his face, his anger seeming to deflate like a popped tire. “Don’t put yourself down like that. You’re a person, Julia. One that people care about.”
And I want to protect those people.
I chew on my bottom lip. “You shouldn’t have interfered.”
He lets out a long sigh, gives me a searching look, goes to leave, then stops. He reaches into his pocket and holds something up. “This is yours, I assume.”
I stare at the ring, my lips parting. “How did you . . .?”
But he’s already out the door.

Beauty and the Baller was pure reading decadence and a bubbling bottle of happiness that overflowed with joy!

Every part of this story was magic. From the opening meet-cute to the happily ever after. Ronan and Nova lit up the pages with their steamy chemistry along the abundance of Texas Blue Belle charm.

Nova was the perfect sassy beauty to play opposite Ronan’s broken baller. Every aspect of their lives meshed up perfectly when it came to outside appearances, Ronan wa treated as football royalty in Texas, where as Nova was returning home to take care of her younger sister which is nobel, but Nova is unmarried and has no job, truly scandalous for a southern woman in Texas. However, it does put Nova on the list of dating prospects for Ronan…oh wait, Ronan isn’t looking to date, anyone, ever. Also, scandalous…a single man in Texas-round up all the single ladies, stat.

The hijinks in this book are hilarious and the busy bodies in Blue Belle, Texas are super funny, especially for anyone who’s lived in a small town, it really hits home. To even out the colorful characters, the students that Ronan coaches are really great and add that special touch that gives his beastly character real depth.

For Nova she’s spunky and sassy and truly shines with an inner beauty that matches her outer one. She polishes up everyone around her and brings out their inner glow. Nova is like the sun that pulls all the planets around them so people just gravitate towards her. She’s got that inner spunk that just shines. As much as Ronan tries to deny wanting a relationship with her it’s so hard when the pull towards her is so strong.

Their games with each other, where they bet and compete are hilarious and with both of them being super competitive, they do it over everything. It’s adorable and I loved every moment of it. I could have stayed in this town with the two of them forever, so I really hope I get to return with some future characters.

Beauty and the Baller is about love, friendship, integrity, finding your path when you’ve been lost, it’s also about finding your joy when you haven’t had it in a really long time. Hands down it is just a darn good book, with laughs and steamy times to be had. A 2022 must read.

Review – One-Timer by Teagan Hunter

A one-time wedding night decision leads to a lifetime of commitment. Oops! Neither Hollis nor Lowell were looking for more than just a one-night stand when they hooked up on a wedding night, but when Hollis discovers that she’s pregnant their one time together turns into so much more.

As far as a love story goes, this one was sweet and held no surprises. Their love developed slowly, even though their passion burned bright right from the beginning. What I really enjoyed, aside from Lowell’s sweet words, were the moments splashed through out where Hollis or Lowell spent time with family or friends. The secondary characters were perfectly placed to add the right amount of tension or comedy relief or emotional support all without taking away from the ongoing plot. It allowed my favorite past characters to shine while getting great insight into future plots. Poor Miller, now I say poor, but really he takes being everyone’s punching bag with gentle ease, I’m looking forward to the day he gets his book, hopefully.

The next best part, and I’ve enjoyed it with each of the Comet books, is the text messaging between main characters. Teagan has mastered the art of witty texting. I love reading the back and forth banter and laughing my way through those chapters each and every time.

The Carolina Comet world is growing and I can’t wait to return and see who helps expand it next.

Waking up married in Vegas was just the catalyst to all the shenanigans that began Neil and Charlie’s (Cornelius and Charlotte) love story.

Lord do I love Cornelius as a name! LOL

What begins as a “what did I do last night” kind of story, turns into a fake marriage, friends to lovers, and so much more, sports romance. Neil and Charlie are friends and hockey mates. While Neil plays for the Bruisers, Charlie plays for the female equivalent team, Bombshells, for the same organization. When they were in Vegas for an all star event, one thing led to another and well….the rest is drunk married history.

Sarina Bowen writes romance and comedy that blend perfectly together with all the humility and steam that a romance titled Shenanigans needs and typically I LOVE Bowen’s books, but this one took a bit to grow on me. The chemistry between Neil and Charlie was just off. Neil wanted her desperately, but he was a gentleman through and through and while Charlie found Neil attractive, she was so hung up in her pride and bitterness that she couldn’t see through to the man who was in love with her right in front of her face.

I will start by saying that I completely understand where Charlie was coming from. Her feelings were totally justified, but…she literally slept with her bitter pride instead of snuggling up to the hot man next to her. Charlie respected that he stayed on his side of the bed and didn’t touch her. Ok not all romantic books need smexy times, but it also didn’t help raise the chemistry meter at all, but let’s move on. Charlie also wasn’t happy for her teammates, who actually were happy, that there was a packed stadium to watch them play after the news of her marriage came out. Sort of a me vs. team caring moment and that also made me like her just a tad less. What I’m getting at is basically, she never enjoyed the small moments and that honestly began to take away the enjoyment for me. It’s one thing when a character is grumpy and grouchy, but I like to see the armor crack in small doses. I enjoy seeing the sunny character break through and get under the grumpy characters skin. Neil did his best and Charlie is prideful to a fault, I wasn’t sure what he saw in her except a way to irritate his uncle, but perhaps I’m being too hard.

It’s truly not the plot that bothers me. When I’m reading I want to escape. I understand that Charlie is playing in a man’s world and feels weighed down by all of the inequity of what that brings. She’s bitter about being told to appreciate her opportunities and her lot in life. I get it, I truly do. However, her bitterness takes away from the chemistry that should be building between Neil and herself. She never allows it because it’s this huge weight between them. The inequality is always there and she wears it like a huge bolder. While I understand what happens in the real world, I see and live it everyday, however, I read to escape this horrible reality. Having Charlie point it out every other page was just not enjoyable and honestly I liked Neil’s POV a million times better.

Sooooo,this was a shenanigan good time, mostly. A 4.5 read overall.
