Blog Tour – Apathy by L.K. Reid

 Release Date: September 20

There were sicknesses in this world even holy water couldn’t wash away.

In vicious nights, beautiful monsters lay.
Some with faces known, some ready to play.
Unsure of a friend, unsure of a foe,
Be certain of nothing you think you know,

Because what once enters Winworth, never leaves again.

Skylar Blackwood thought she knew what monsters looked like.
But in Winworth, nothing is what it seems.

Not the arrival of a stranger with eyes that see too much, and lips that taste like danger.
Not the young women who begin disappearing in the night.
And certainly not the people in the sleepy town she grew up in that begin to turn on one another.

One truth is undeniable, something wicked is loose in Winworth.
No one is safe, and trusting the wrong person could cost Skylar everything.

Trapped between the two worlds as secrets start to unravel, what little sanity Skylar has left threatens to shatter, leaving her with more questions than answers.

Turns out, real monsters are never what they seem.
APATHY is the first book in Secrets of Winworth series, dealing with dark themes that might not be suitable for all readers. It is recommended only for readers above the age of 18.

Meet L.K. Reid

Hi there. My name is Leila but I am writing under my pen name L.K. Reid.

I write dark romance, the characters that are depraved, lost, a little bit misunderstood and most of my books are touching subjects of mental health in one way or another.

While Ricochet is the first book I will release, I have actually been writing since Primary School, but that little thing called self-doubt always kept me away from truly pursuing my dreams.

Recently I realized that if I don’t chase my dreams, I will never do everything I want to do. Sixty years from now I would regret all the things I was too afraid to do, so I did it. I allowed myself to dream and put myself out there. I want to show you these worlds swirling inside my head and these characters whose stories have to be told.

I am a restless person. I can’t stay in the same place for a very long time so I like to move. I love to explore new places, meet new people, learn about new cultures, you know, the usual. My mom used to tell me that I live inside my head, and that’s true. I really do. While I do love being surrounded with other people I also love to be alone. I think that until we truly know ourselves and our thoughts we could never be truly happy.

Truth to be told, I am still figuring out this whole adult “thingy”, but I think that most of us are pretty much lost in that world. Slow walkers are the bane of my existence, and one of my biggest pet peeves is people not responding on their messages – it really drives me crazy.

I wanted to be an archeologist, but we can see that that definitely didn’t work out. My small obsession with Greek, Egyptian, Nordic and Slavic Mythology was one of the driving forces behind many stories I wrote as a teenager, and I am pretty sure that one day I will end up writing a book with those themes.

If I could I would set Halloween as a Public Holiday. Spooky season, Autumn, that’s my jam. Scary movies go hand-in-hand with that I would say, and my favorite ones are Halloween and Scream – all of them. Music was always a big part of my life as well, and I can’t imagine a day where I don’t listen to it for at least a little bit. Everything I ever wrote was done while listening to music, and if it wasn’t for music, I would most probably be completely lost.

Review – Taken Bride by Alta Hensley

57546459. sy475

Taken Bride; Secret Bride #3
(#3 within a trilogy)

Publication Date: September 3, 2021

Genre/Tropes: Trilogy/Suspense/Dark Romance

Author: Alta Hensley

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

Wrapping up a forever ending to this secret bride series and their forever after was absolutely perfect.

When we last left Ember and Christopher it was tumultuous and frankly I wanted to push Christopher’s mother down a flight of stairs. At the beginning of Taken Bride I still felt the same about his mom and that will never change, but the story really takes off as it centers around how Christopher will get Ember back and how the couple will survive once they reunite. Truly exciting, on the edge of your seat stuff.

Papa Rich and Scarecrow have returned for Ember and emotions are high as the poor girl returns to their brainwashed clutches. This time however, it’s not just Ember’s life on the line, but Scarecrow has other incentives waiting in his home to keep her from running. Twists that I did not see coming.

Christopher is furious with his mother when he discovers Ember is missing, but he does everything to track her down and will stop at nothing to get his wife back. If their intense time together has taught him anything it’s that Ember is the most important thing in his life and he’ll do anything to keep her by his side.

The deeply, intense love that these two feel for one another is truly what drives this overall trilogy and I love how passionate and expressive Ember and Christopher are for each other. The experiences they’ve been through always at the forefront, never letting them forget how precious life and their love is for each other.

This is the last book in the secret bride trilogy and the books need to be read in order in order to make sense and be enjoyed. It’s been an intense and twisted ride, but definitely worth the read.

Synopsis:

Secrets must be kept.
Vows never broken.
Till death do us part…

Unless everything changes.
Captive in one life…
Kept in another…
Taken to now be the wife I am forced to be.

I’m hidden away to face a dark reality only a few can survive.
But I have a purpose now. I can be the good wife I strive to be.
But he still wants me.
He will hunt me down.
He will find me and take back what was stolen.
I will be his wife if he has to fight until the death to make it happen.

Review – The Spy by Sophie Lark

The Spy; Kingmakers #4
(#4 within a series)

Publication Date: July 28, 2021

Genre/Tropes: New Adult/Suspense-Intrigue/Mafia Romance

Author: Sophie Lark

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

Constant mind explosions. All. Over. The. Place. 🤯 Wow, wow, and more wow!!!

The past and present all wove together to tell a tale that was complete perfection. Although, I feel like I need to go back and re-read each book in the Kingmaker series because I feel like I missed clues or easter eggs that all led up to this brilliant conclusion. Again, total mind blown moments throughout the entire book.

I was captivated and I’ve been dying to know who the spy was leading up to this book, but like Sophie…I won’t let the cat out of the bag either.

We return to Kingmakers with new freshman, the classes (I still love the entire concept behind mafia courses) and the potential of Leo Gallo being the four time captain-champion of the school’s games. Everything is familiar and yet as mysteries slowly unraveled (which brought me immense glee) and all of the truth bombs began to explode the story puzzle began to take shape. The ending was coming, but it was also magnificent.

Probably one of the best things I have loved about this series is how Sophie wove all secondary characters throughout each book to the point that each person was perfectly placed and became just as important to the storyline as the main characters.  Friendship and loyalty, something you wouldn’t expect perhaps from mafia students, but it runs deep through these books and the love they have for each other is a bond that became unbreakable.

While I’m sad to see this series come to an end, it truly had the perfect ending and everything was tied up.

Synopsis:

I’ve waited three long years for this…
Hiding. Lying. Spying.
Waiting like a spider for her to wander into my web…
Now she’s here, and I have to get even closer to her. I’ll help her. Befriend her. Seduce her, even.
The only thing I can’t do is fall in love with her.
Her father took everything from me: my money, my family, my life.
He has to pay for what he’s done. And she’s the only thing that can hurt him…
Mafia families from around the world send their children to Kingmakers Academy to learn the skills of criminal enterprise.

Under the rules of Sanctuary, students are forbidden to fight or kill. But rivalries are high, tensions inflamed, and forbidden love arises in the most unlikely places…

Welcome to Kingmakers

Review – Black Thorns by Rina Kent

57729662. sy475

Black Thorns; Thorns Duet #2
(#2 within a duet)

Publication Date: July 8, 2021

Genre/Tropes: Duet/New Adult/Dark Romance

Author: Rina Kent

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

Rina Kent pushes dark boundaries I didn’t know I wanted or liked, but she makes me throw out my grabby hands and BEG for more. Black Thorns blew away everything I anticipated and left me once again I craving more of her dark words.

Black Thorns picks up right where we left Sebastian and Naomi. The first quarter of this book is brutally agonizing and I was gripping onto the edge of my seat while trying to turn pages fast enough to find out what happens.

Everything in this book is a blood pumping whirlwind! Once I started I couldn’t read it fast enough.

The first part of the duet was so steamy and taboo, well…you haven’t seen anything yet. Sebastian and Naomi are off the charts in this second half. Their story isn’t easy or pretty, but know that it is always consensual. Their darkness has always called to one another and at every point in their lives, that never waivers. Sebastian and Naomi are meant to be, no matter who or what stands in the way. The Beast will always get his Prey.

Also, keep a close eye on other players who appear in this book as Rina is fantastic at her layers upon layers in storytelling and keep in mind that she does mention triggers, if Rina’s books aren’t for you then don’t swim in the deep end.

Synopsis:

A lie turned into a nightmare.

She broke my heart.
Broke me.
Broke us.
Only one thing could mend the gaping wound she left behind.
Her.
Naomi.
All mine for the taking.
All mine for owning.
All mine.

Black Thorns is a dark romance book that contains dubious situations some readers might find offensive and/or triggering.

This book is part of a duet and is not standalone.

Kept Bride; Secret Bride #2
(#2 within a trilogy)

Publication Date: July 6, 2021

Genre/Tropes: Trilogy/Dark/Suspense/Psychological Romance

Author: Alta Hensley

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

This trilogy is so original, unlike anything I’ve ever read. It’s mind-bending, a psychological twister that is a total page turner.

Kept Bride picks up right where Captive Bride left off. This book cannot be read as a standalone. Where Christopher was the trapped prisoner in the first book and Ember, although was kidnapped years ago, was there to help sooth and help calm Christopher. This time around as they have fled captivity from the madman who forced them into marriage, Christopher and Ember are now living in Christopher’s world where their positions have shifted. They may appear free, but instead they have exchanged one cage for another. Is love enough to save them from the outside forces that live in Christopher’s world?

Alta Hensley has crafted a physiological twister that will keep you guessing who is there to help this couple and who is there to push them back in their gilded cage. It is such a fast paced ride, completely page turning and impossible to put down.

Synopsis:

My history is forbidden.
My story, dark and twisted.
My future decided.

I know I don’t belong in this decadent world—his world.
Money, power, and dark secrets surround me now.
I submit to it all to be his perfect obedient wife.

They stalk my every move, watching me, judging me.
I’m in the same prison just with different guards.
But all I care about is him.
His eyes, his touch, his hold over me.
I’m forever his kept bride, even though they all try to steal me away.

Kept Bride is part of a trilogy and should not be read as a standalone:

Author: Skye Warren

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

Emotions are high, feelings are tense, and suspicions are abound in the second book of this suspenseful trilogy.

We pick right up after the fire that destroyed Coach House and untangling the mystery of what happened the night Beau, Jane, and Paige almost died. Who or what possibly started the fire? Could someone be after Beau for nefarious reasons or could it be Jane that brought danger to the Rochester doorstep? There seem to be more questions than answers as the days pass, but on top of solving the case keeping Paige emotionally stable is both of their top priorities. She’s already lost both of her parents and now her home and everything she ever knew is destroyed on top of what she already lost. How much else can a little girl suffer? These are the moments that will break you in two.

Added to this already tumultuous storyline, Jane and Beau also dance around their feelings once again. Beau is torn between giving in, when he feels his feelings might have caused the danger to begin with and Jane struggles to come to terms with feeling like the help and being Beau’s lover now that Beau wants to put the breaks on. Uncertainty is written all over what they share which doesn’t help in facing a future together. How do you put the lid on pandora’s box when everything is already pouring out of it? Their feelings are raw and hurtful, but make the story that much better.

What I love best is the mystery surrounding this story, the unknown of exactly who the bad guy could be. I also love the tenacity of Paige and how resilient she is given everything she has gone through, but I’m always a sucker for children.

With a killer still on the loose, I’m excited to see how everything plays out and how it all comes together. What’s going to happen? Will everyone survive?

Review – The Silencer by RC Boldt

The Silencer
(A standalone)

Publication Date: May 18, 2021

Genre/Tropes: Suspense/Intrigue/Romantic Thriller

Author: RC Boldt

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

A keep you on the edge of your seat romantic thriller where justice and vengeance walk a fine line.

RC Boldt writes a tale of redemption that is full of twists and turns, but ultimately leads to the question of can a good man who finds justice love a broken woman who seeks vengeance?

The Silencer is very well written, and while it centers around a delicate subject matter, it focuses more on tracking down horrible people who committed those acts instead of the act itself. For me personally, it really helped keep this book on a suspenseful, thriller level vs. in a dark, disturbing trope.

Kennedy is a forensics anthropologist who specializes in helping law enforcement serve justice to those who normally don’t have a voice. Off the record she serves up vigilante justice to those who might escape through the penal system.

While Kennedy is used to working alone, on a sensitive case in Washington DC she is assigned a partner, Landon Lattimer, an agent from the FBI who has his own assignment to keep a close eye on Kennedy and make sure this case is handled appropriately.

While these two work towards the same goal, they do so through very different means. As they get closer personally Kennedy has a hard time knowing she will have to walk away because how can a man who works for justice ever be with a vigilante?

Synopsis:

USA Today bestselling author RC Boldt brings us an unforgettable tale of betrayal, vengeance, and redemption in her new romantic thriller, THE SILENCER…

No one wants to admit that sometimes only evil can extinguish other evil.

Each time I drain the life from their bodies, I inch closer to purging my past.

Then a by-the-book FBI agent—one as astute as he is handsome—threatens my plans…and what’s left of my heart.

He doesn’t believe there are exceptions to breaking the law. That’s where we differ.

They once silenced me and countless others, but now I’ve reversed our roles.

Because, this time, it’s my turn to be the silencer.

————————————————————
**The Silencer is a dark and gritty romantic suspense that deals with sensitive topics which may not be suitable for all readers.

Kymaris has everything she needs to bring down the veil between Earth and the Underworld. If she’s successful in completing the ritual, Earth will be darkened by evil. Demons will swarm our lands and the human race will be decimated.

It’s up to me to stop her.

My fate is to thwart the prophecy, but I’m not sure what to do. While I may have some gifts, I am still merely a human facing the queen of the Dark Fae who holds unimaginable power.

But I have something she doesn’t. Something she could never comprehend.

I have love.

Deep, abiding love which gives me the strength and courage to face down evil. Family, friends, and unexpected allies, who will stand shoulder to shoulder with me against this enemy. Should I fail, they are prepared to go down with me, but only after we have given our all.

My sacrifice may destroy everything I am. Fate may require my demise. But if that happens, I will leave this realm without regret, knowing that I have loved and been loved in return.

The Insiders; #1
(#1 within a trilogy)

Publication Date: May 4, 2021

Genre/Tropes: Trilogy/New Adult/Suspense Romance

Author: Tijan

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

Tijan starts off with a girl being kidnapped right from her room…OMG…this book starts off with a bang!

Through Bailey, we go through the ups and down of a girl who is uprooted from a normal life, while yes, she has a photographic memory, she was just a normal girl. In one night she learns she has a billionaire father and family, her life is on the line, and the rich life is nothing like TMZ makes it out to be.

There is a lot to unpack within this first book of a new trilogy by Tijan, but with that said, it’s also a slower paced book, most likely because of the three book overall span.  There is mystery, romance, and drama all contained within this new adventure and I’m really excited to see where the storyline is headed.

After Bailey is kidnapped which then forces a myriad of events to unfold in her life, ones she’s dreamed about since she was a little girl; meeting her father (whom she thought was an entirely different man and deceased), her half siblings (ones she didn’t know she was related to, but due to their fame she actually knew existed), and then ultimately her stepmother (who is supremely cold to her for a multitude of reasons).

The only man she finds strange comfort in is Kash who is mysterious through most of the book in his protective, broody, and over the top ways. Bailey can’t place why she feels the need to turn to him, even when he’s being so secretive all the time. Bailey is surrounded by all of these new family members, guards, and staff, but Kash is the one who continually comes to her rescue time and again, so if nothing else he does seem to care, but there is also this underlying wonder if he’s really doing it for her own welfare, could there be another purpose?

Bailey’s siblings, especially the oldest, Matt, is a swinging pendulum of tugging emotions. It’s hard to say where on the spectrum to place his loyalty or his true feelings throughout the book. You definitely get the feeling that he’s had a tough time as not only the eldest child, but that he too has a tough time with the stepmother, Quinn. That’s right, Matt is also a half sibling of the younger siblings living under the roof, so why was he raised in alongside his father and Bailey wasn’t?

There are a lot of mysteries surrounding Bailey’s upbringing, her genius and memory, and the man she’s falling in love with. We only begin to uncover a portion of what’s happening at the Francis estate in this first book.

Calculated Risk; Blackbridge Security #5

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

We return to the security world of Blackbridge and all those hot men who make the world a better place.

Calculated Risk is a slow burning romance between Quinten Lake and Hayden Prescott, two very different people when you look at them from the outside. Quinten is a gentle giant of a man who is a problem solver covered in tattoos and a beard. He works with a lot of high profile cases, your hollywood starlets, government screwups, basically he has the patience of a saint when he’s able to come in and clean up all of their mistakes. Where as Hayden is a petite woman with a fiery attitude, but works as an accountant in her nine to five job and normally dates boring intellectuals.

These two most likely would never have met under normal circumstances, if it wasn’t for the home invasion that Hayden was a victim of which in turn caused her best friend to sign her up for a gun safety class at Blackbridge Security.

Taking back control of her life isn’t easy and honestly, being the victim of anything traumatizing isn’t easy to come back from, however, a large portion of this story revolves around gun safety and taking back part of yourself. As much as I’d like to focus on the part of the story that was lacking around the suspense of why the home invasion happened (this was my tiny ding in my 5 star rating) and then later revolving around more of what was going on in Hayden’s life, I really, really respected everything else. With the way the world is going and everything in the news I truly enjoyed reading this.

I felt a true connection to Hayden and how she approached gun safety class. I’ll be honest, I was walking in her shoes. I felt everything she was, right up to the point of her handling a gun because I’ve never done this, but I could still imagine those same trepidations that she felt. I also respected Quinten immensely. He was patient and caring and very respectful of every woman who was in his class. As much as Quinten originally complained about teaching, he was actually the perfect team member to do it.

Lastly, my favorite part is always revisiting past characters and of course my favorite among favorites is Wren and Puff Daddy. They are there as well as several other gorgeous team members. I’m also very excited for the next book because we get lots of hints dropped here and it looks to be juicy.

Overall read 4.5 stars

Synopsis:

As the fixer for Blackbridge Security, Quinten Lake is the man that comes in and cleans up after people make stupid decisions.

Which means he didn’t want to be the one teaching lustful women gun safety.

There were guys on the team better suited for the task.

Get in and get out, that’s his motto, something he lives by not only at work but also in his personal life.

And he could be doing just that if it weren’t for the internet.

But if #BlackbridgeSpecial wasn’t trending online he would’ve never met Hayden Prescott.

He wouldn’t be wondering why she won’t make eye contact with him.

He’s supposed to teach her the skills to protect herself, but his ego is encouraging him to be her means of protection.

She isn’t impressed, and he’s left wondering if she’ll ever open her eyes and finally see him.

New Release – Smolder by Emma Renshaw

Smolder by Emma Renshaw  is now live!

I should have known all along that keeping secrets would burn down my entire world.

One night changed an entire town.

And it wrecked my life.

It was built with secrets. Secrets I kept from nearly everyone. Things no one would expect from the sweet,  smiling girl with a flower shop. Besides my family, there wasn’t a person in this town that knew what I’d been hiding. I’d kept it locked away safely since the fire.

I never expected to be faced with my shame, to have my darkness exposed in the light of day. I never thought Colt, the man who invaded too many of my thoughts, would be the one to bring it crashing down. He asked too many questions and saw straight through me, down to my soul. He unravelled me with one smoldering look. That’s all it took for my carefully guarded world to begin to crumble.

When everything begins spinning into chaos, Colt promises to be there. I want to believe him. I want to get lost in his strong embrace, but I know I don’t deserve him. And he deserves more than all my fractured pieces.

I should have known all along that keeping secrets would burn down my entire world.

Review – From the Embers by Aly Martinez

From the Embers
(A standalone)

Publication Date: April 28, 2021

Genre/Tropes: Contemporary/Catastrophic Romance

Author: Aly Martinez

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

I am a big, blubbering mess from reading this book! It’s hard to know where to begin since my emotions are in turmoil, but this is one book that shouldn’t be missed. A MUST READ OF 2021!!

From the fire, to the loss, to how Eason and Bree pick up the pieces of their lives together, to how they raised their children in the aftermath of a horrible tragedy – just absolutely everything in this book squeezed every bit of my heart while the suspenseful plot also added that extra bit of drama that also raced my heart. Who needs to exercise while reading an Aly Martinez novel!?!

Eason and Bree were strong, supportive, and heartbreakingly perfect at the right time for each other. Destiny was in perfect alignment with these two even when heart break seemed imminent. How could love work when they’d just lost everything? It was truly the very last thought on either of their minds when they’d just lost their spouses and Eason had also lost his home. Trying to restart their lives while in mourning and raising young children is one of the most compelling stories I’ve ever read. It was certainly like nothing I’ve ever read and will not be forgotten anytime soon.

There are suspenseful elements weaved through this breathtaking book, which is like the sprinkles on an already tasty ice cream sundae. From The Embers is so brilliantly written and plotted to perfection, I could tout the wonderfulness of this book all day long. I highly suggest adding it to your TBR and must read list so you don’t miss it.

Synopsis:

From USA Today Bestselling Author Aly Martinez comes a new heart-stopping standalone romance.

In the aftermath of tragedy, it’s strange the things you remember.
The deafening boom as the house exploded.
The paralyzing fear as I searched for my wife.
The blinding smoke burning my eyes as I carried her out.

But carved into my soul for the rest of my days would be the earth-shattering realization that the woman in my arms wasn’t my wife.

Bree and I were the only survivors—not that either of us were truly living after that night. As a single dad with nowhere else to go, I moved into her guest house. And somehow, through the guilt and grief, we forged an unlikely team.

It took years, but I watched the gradual return of her smile—slow and life-altering.
The two of us could sit outside for hours, talking about nothing, and it filled the massive hole in my chest with new life.

I may have carried her out of that fire, but the truth was, Bree saved me.

As we healed, the secrets and lies of the past smoldered in the ashes, threatening to ignite again.

Our love was born from the embers, and together we would go up in flames.

Review – Forever Golden by Rachel Jonas and Nikki Thorne

Forever Golden; Kings of Cypress Prep #3
(#3 within a series)

Publication Date: April 23, 2021

Genre/Tropes: New Adult/Suspense/Dark Romance

Authors: Rachel Jonas and Nikki Thorne

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

West and Blue…can I just bask in their love for a while. What an amazing, culminating story for these two and the beginning for so many more in this golden world.

In Forever Golden a lot of questions finally get answered, the most important being evil Vin, and the door opens to more which should get answered as this series continues with the other Golden boys #TeamGolden.

Under a strict timeline, West and Blue bring drama and suspense as they track down answers to bring down Vin before it’s too late. With the help of their family and friends they figure out who to trust and who has the chances to rip them apart. It isn’t easy when the city is corrupt, but the Golden Team has held strong and I love how they all work together.

My favorite part in the whole book was when everyone took a trip down to Louisiana to visit the boys grandfather and their cousins. My secret wish is that books are written for everyone because all five cousins were delectable and full of hell raising fun. The future of this world has so much possibility and I want it yesterday!

I love how the entire series has evolved from a dark, bully book where Blue didn’t back down from West being the ultimate jerk to now where their love is so strong they can hardly be without the other for more than a few minutes. It is heart melty and fuzzy feelings and everything I love about bad boys who fall hard for the right girl. I’m so here for everything that is coming from the rest of the Golden boys and what is still to come for the city that is still broken.

Synopsis:

West Golden—Fierce protector. The one.

The cocky jock I once wanted to kill with my bare hands is now the only one I trust with my heart.

In a city full of corruption and dark secrets, knowing who’s on your side gets harder to determine every day. Especially now that Vin’s on the warpath, passing out threats he fully intends to see through to the end. His power here in Cypress Pointe seems limitless, and I don’t have time to see if that’s true. I’m prepared to make sacrifices to keep my family safe.

Even if what’s sacrificed is my own happiness.

As our circle of loyal friends becomes clear, we cling to it, because it’s all any of us has. And if there’s one thing Vin didn’t count on, it’s that blood isn’t always thicker than water.

He might just find out firsthand why it’s never wise to cross the king’s queen.

***
FOREVER GOLDEN is the highly anticipated conclusion to this portion of the saga, and a lead-in to the KINGS OF CYPRESS spinoff. This book is the final installment of a trilogy and should only be read after completing books one & two, THE GOLDEN BOYS and NEVER HIS GIRL.

This series contains strong bully themes. So, if you’re not into romances where hate turns into love (… eventually), and if you don’t like your heroes of the unapologetically alpha variety, this might not be the series for you. There is no rape or dubious consent whatsoever. However, due to adult themes and sexual situations, this one’s only for the 18+ crowd.

This series is sure to give you GOSSIP GIRL and ONE TREE HILL vibes, and the angst will have you burning through the pages to find out what happens next. One-click and get lost in this series today!

Over the Moon
(An interconnected standalone)

Publication Date: April 22, 2021

Genre/Tropes: Sports/Intrigue/Contemporary Romance

Author: K.K. Allen

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

K.K. Allen wrote a juicy, riveting tale about a cocky football player, a feisty nurse, with a hint of mystery and suspense. I was there for every word, turning pages late into the night, loving every moment of it!

Kingston Scott isn’t the most likable guy at the beginning of this book. He is everything cliché about a spoiled, rich, ego-inflated jock, but the more time spent with this giant of the gridiron, pulling back his coat of armor that he has perfected over years, lo and behold, there are layers under Kingston’s attitude and guess what? He is totally melt worthy.

Silver Livingston is a woman with an air of mystery and a ton of spirit. She’s worked at Camp Dakota for the past eight years and used to campers and staff coming in and out of her life, but when Kingston steps off the bus she instantly knows his visit will shake up her world.

Their fiery back and forths, instant chemistry, and connection on a level neither one of them have ever had before made for page turning that was practically burning my kindle. Not only did I have to know all of Silver’s secrets, but watching both of them open up and really experience something that neither one of them have ever gone through was beautiful. I loved this entire story.

These two together share experiences that no one should experience, but together they recognize two halves that make up a whole. Sharing all your truths, showing someone all your sides, and giving someone so much power and trust over you is the scariest thing you can ever do. Jumping into their journey and watching their truths be revealed and seeing how love can heal a broken soul is so beautiful and that is the reminder that we all need.

Synopsis:

“My secrets have always kept me safe…until he saw my truth.”

Kingston Scott is the most eligible bachelor in professional football, a charming rebel on and off the field.
He’s also in desperate need of an attitude adjustment.
After a reckless night that puts him behind bars, he’s sentenced to coach football at a sleepaway camp in the middle of nowhere.
He’s not sure he’ll survive an entire month of torture…until he sees her.
The intoxicating woman with the silver moon eyes, the reserved smile, and the past she’s determined to keep hidden.

Silver Livingston is the resident nurse at Camp Dakota, a beautiful temptress on and off the clock.
She’s also a forbidden mystery to all who know her.
After a decade of living in the shadows of the safe haven she’s created, news arrives that threatens her perfect facade.
She’s not sure what to do next…and then she sees him.
The new arrival with the body of a god, a flashy smile, and evergreen eyes that burn straight through to her core.

Now, Silver isn’t sure which threat to fear most. The irresistible man she knows she must deny, or the inevitable head-on collision with her past.

Review – All the Ugly Things by Stacey Lynn

All the Ugly Things; Love and Lies #1
(#1 within a series)

Publication Date: April 20, 2021

Genre/Tropes: Duet/Intrigue/Contemporary Romance

Author: Stacey Lynn

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

Thought provoking and deeply emotional, All the Ugly Things brings to life the story of how choices and decisions alter your life and the trajectory of who might come along your path based upon those decisions.

Lilly finds herself sentenced to ten years in prison for vehicular manslaughter at the age of eighteen. At an age when others are heading off to college, getting married, starting a career, moving into their first home, starting a family, the start of adulthood. Whereas, Lilly is navigating through the penal system and surviving her young adult years with every freedom, choice, and option taken away from her. Everything she used to take for granted has been stripped away and when Lilly is finally released she faces a reality that she has no idea how to be an adult on her own. This part of story hit me hard every time Lilly was lost in navigating the adult world. The years she lost was, of course, devastating, but the exact time frame was even more so.

When Lilly meets the Valentine family there is a lot of mystery surrounding them. Mr. Valentine offers to help Lilly, and given her recent circumstances she’s leary of taking any handouts. However, it isn’t only Mr. Valentine, but also his son, Hudson, that gets under her skin. Lilly hasn’t had anyone on her side in years so taking help doesn’t come easy. Why would mere strangers want to help? Why would a man like Hudson have any interest in her? What will happen if she takes their help?

We are only in the first part of the duet and there are still a lot of questions to answer. I’ve been pulled into this story and I’m curious as to the real reasons why the Valentine’s want to help. I also want to see Lilly continue to blossom the longer she’s out of jail. The entire storyline has been intriguing and I’ve loved this book and can’t wait for the rest.

Synopsis:

One moment. A single decision… an accident.
Cost me six years of my life.
All of my hopes and dreams vanished.

Until I was given back my freedom and the opportunity to start over… doing whatever I could to survive in a world much different than the one I knew before.

I was working on my degree and waiting tables when my fate changed.
An older man with silver hair and a fancy suit walked in, looking like he wanted to save me.
He came for pie. But he offered me a job.

When I turned him down, he sent his son, Hudson.
The arrogant, sex on a stick wore me down.
I took the job.
I accepted his friendship.
And slowly, over time, I began to feel things for this man I knew I shouldn’t.

They gave me a home.
A family.
And then it was all ripped away.

Now nothing can erase all the ugly things.

Review:

Holding You Close just makes me happy! Action, Love, Family, it’s all here.

Beginning with Noah and Katie on the edge of where we left them in book one, we jump right into the action in Holding You Close.

With the mystery of who is still targeting Noah, barely escaping dangerous run-ins, and no actual prospects for the police to arrest all Katie and Noah can do is move forward with their lives and hope the culprit eventually reveals themselves.

What we do get is these two, second chance lovers, really steam up their relationship and (whew) ten years locked away means Noah has some dirty fantasies to make up for.

While Noah and Katie find their new normal, they do it while keeping one eye open for who’s trying to hurt him and ruin their prospect of their happily ever after.

Gemma, Tyler, Everleigh, along with sweet Owen and all of their close family return, along with a few others, if you are familiar with the series, which makes me totally happy. I love this series more and more with each new book addition and I’m looking forward to what happens next in this small town.

May be an image of 1 person, book and text that says 'DON'T tease ME WOMAN. I'VE BEEN DREAMING OF YOUR MOUTH ON ME FOR DAYS. HOLDING HOLDING HOLDING YOU CLOSE a kobo n YOU YOU CLOSE CLOSE &KATIE KENNEDY FO KENNEDY FOX'

Synopsis:

After serving a decade long prison sentence for an accident that resulted in my husband’s death, Noah Reid returns. Even if he was my childhood best friend and the first man I secretly loved, I refuse to make it easy for him. But the heart never forgets and those old repressed feelings quickly bubble to the surface.

Loving him is a dangerous game but one I’m willing to play.

Flirting leads to falling between the sheets, and I’m forced to deal with the guilt of what we’re doing. Viciousness towards Noah runs rampant and while revenge trickles through the streets of Lawton Ridge, I realize there’s more on the line than just my heart. While I’m afraid that my son and I will be caught in the crossfire of those who want to hurt Noah, I can’t walk away.

Secrets are revealed and revelations are made, but losing him again isn’t an option—especially since I’m pregnant.

HOLDING YOU AWAY is a slow burn, angsty friends to lovers romance with lots of small-town, Southern drama. It’s book 2 in the Noah & Katie duet and must be read in order.

Genre/Tropes: Billionaire/Age Gap/Forbidden/Suspense Romance

Author: Skye Warren

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

With hints of suspense and mystery, Skye Warren brings us a new romance ripe with tension and juicy, forbidden romance in Private Property.

Beau is charged with raising is six year old niece after a tragic accident to her parents. He is in no way prepared to handle her, especially when he is still grieving the loss of his brother and sister-in-law himself, but even more than that, it’s plain to see he’s never been around children and doesn’t know how to offer her the emotional support she needs, much less offer her comfort. He has spent his life building a company, so people aren’t exactly his top priority, but a new live in nanny might change all that.

When Jane arrives as the live in nanny, she is unprepared for so many aspects of the job, but most of all she is most unprepared to feel anything for the grumpy billionaire, Beau. While her unique background gives her insight to handle Paige, it nowhere prepares her for the dark and mysterious man full of secrets.

Private Property ends on a whopper of a cliffhanger with more to look forward to and more secrets to uncover. I can hardly wait.

Review – Inferno by Emma Renshaw

54029138. sy475

Inferno; Burn #3
(A standalone within a series)

Publication Date: February 23, 2021

Genre/Tropes: Contemporary/Suspense Romance

Author: Emma Renshaw

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

Tears, tears and more tears. Emma Renshaw hit me in the emotional feels with this third book in the Burn series.

We return to Hawk Valley where one night changes the lives of an entire town and even though this is the third time I’ve experienced the bonfire, I was crying by the end of it.

Emma Renshaw knows how to turn something old into something new and make it even more emotional each time I relive it.

Adeline and Foster had very different experiences growing up. Foster is known as the golden boy in Hawk Valley, the son of the Mayor, he has expectations thrust upon him to follow in his father’s footsteps. The night of the bonfire changes his outlook in life and the course of his life. As much as he doesn’t regret making his own life choices, he does wish he wasn’t thrust into his father’s spotlight when it served his purposes.

Adeline grew up in poverty, fearful everyday how her father would react as he lost himself to drinking. The night of the bonfire she lost her entire world and years later she’s still lost in a cycle of grief. Years pass and she hasn’t gone anywhere, stuck in the hometown that took her family, but still dreaming of what could be if she had the courage to take chances. Her snowglobe collection is the closest she comes to dreaming, until she receives news that changes her entire life.

These two souls may have come from different worlds, but they are also more alike than they even realize when they first meet up. Opposite sides of the same coin. Looking for acceptance and love regardless of their background or life circumstances. It may have taken twelve years for them to finally speak to one another again, but once they do their connection is electric and they both help one another regain something they thought they could never have.

Adeline and Foster brought me to tears so many times, I was a total mess by the time I finally came to the end. Inferno is by far Emma’s most emotional book in this series. It can be read as a complete standalone.

Synopsis:

From Emma Renshaw, author of the Vow series, comes a new small town, enemies-to-lovers romance about a firefighter who walked away from his past and a woman who lost everything. This is the third book in the Burn series.

Review – Dawn by Aleatha Romig

Dawn; Dangerous Web #3
(#3 within a series)

Publication Date: February 16, 2021

Genre/Tropes: Suspense/Mystery/Intrigue Romance

Author: Aleatha Romig

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

It never fails to amaze me how an author can piece together a suspenseful, interlocking puzzle that all comes together not only after a trilogy, but also after a multi-story conglomeration.

Aleatha has floored me with how this plot has interlocked and overlaid to just stun me. Once again I have been Aleatha’d.

Has my stomach been turned a few times – yes.

Have my thoughts been provoked – also yes.

This is reading at its best when I’m pushed to my limits and I’ve been made to test my own personal reading boundaries.

Would I normally seek out something that has such disturbing themes – this particular triggering dark theme, probably not, but I’m grateful to have read the love that came after between Reid and Lorna, and the rest of the characters, more than I was expecting. Just like was paraphrased multiple times throughout the book, there can be no dawn without the preceding darkness.

Speaking of the overall love that Reid and Lorna share, along with the overall Sparrow family, not only for each married couple alone, but also as a whole for the group; this book displayed that it doesn’t matter if you are the good guy or the bad guy or whatever you believe yourself to be, there are two sides to every story as there are also good and bad in each one of us. How you choose to weild your knowledge and power, how you choose to love, all of that is a daily decision, as well as a conscious choice. Aleatha gave us a story that truly showed us the worst of humanity, but on the flip side she also gave us men who daily walk the line of what human laws say are bad, but in their hearts they do what is necessary to keep those around them safe and loved. That is a moral dilemma that man has been faced with since the dawn of time.

Dawn is well written and does end this is a powerful trilogy. Yes, it does contain triggers, so go into it with awareness, but by the end know it is still a trilogy that contains themes of family and love.

Synopsis:

“Night never had the last word. The dawn is always invincible.” ~Hugh B. Brown

The Sparrow web world is covered in darkness, yet the dawn is near.
The dramatic conclusion to the Dangerous Web trilogy is here.
The veil of safety protecting Lorna Murray’s life has been ripped away.
Can Reid Murray convince her that despite the lingering darkness, the sun will rise again?

From New York Times bestselling author comes a brand-new dark romantic suspense trilogy, Dangerous Web. DAWN, the dramatic conclusion, is set in the dangerous world of the Sparrow Webs. You do not need to read Web of Sin, Tangled Web, or Web of Desire to get caught up in this new dangerous and intriguing romantic suspense saga, Dangerous Web.

DAWN is the dramatic conclusion of the DANGEROUS WEB trilogy that began in DUSK, continued in DARK and concludes in DAWN.
Have you been Aleatha’d?

Release Blitz – Laces by Tempi Lark

 Release Date: January 31
Welcome to Hawthorne Asylum.

43413457. sy475

Welcome to hell.
This place isn’t run by the doctors who make you talk or the orderlies who force you to swallow your pills.
It belongs to them, to the Infamous Four.
Tabloids, talk shows, documentaries—their faces have been plastered everywhere. Not because of their impressive rap sheets, but because of how they look.
And when I arrive, they take notice. Especially their king: Lincoln “Laces” Caster.
He’s dark and disturbed.
He’s controlling and possessive.
Exactly the kind of boy I should stay away from if I want to clear my name and get out of here.
*LACES is not intended for readers under seventeen. This book does have RH elements, strong language/cursing, and triggering scenes (that might not be suitable for everybody). Laces is a slow burn that builds toward intimate scenes as the series progresses. This is book one in the Boys of Hawthorne Asylum series.

Review – Laces by Tempi Lark

43413457. sy475

Laces; Boys of Hawthorne Asylum #1
(#1 in a series)

Publication Date: January 31, 2021

Genre: New Adult/Dark Romance/Intrigue

Author: Tempi Lark

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

I’m completely Gobsmacked and want to assign 100 stars!! Laces is the BEST kind of psychopath I think I’ve ever read. Tempi’s writing is brilliant as the story unfolds and I can’t wait for more Hannibal Sketcher.

Hawthorne Asylum holds the underage criminally unstable. Kids that hopefully could be rehabilitated, but were too disturbed to even face juvie or jail. These children may seem like they are working towards rehabilitation so they can reenter society, but are they actually safer in HA living away from the evil that placed them there?

Laces, from the very beginning, had me snickering (I’m not sure if that also makes me unstable). He is unapologetically himself, knows his own faults and realizes that he will probably never be released from Hawthorne because of them. What we don’t know is if Laces is playing into the game because he is highly intelligent, extremely gifted, and is clearly the top dog when it comes to how things are done at Hawthorne. (How I ended up loving the weird psycho more and more as the book progressed).

Gambrielle arrives as the new girl at Hawthorne after a very public trial, clearly broken, and thrown to the wolves (I mean hierarchy of boys) who live at the asylum. It doesn’t take Gambrielle long to realize that she needs to play nice with Laces and his friends, but she doesn’t exactly trust them. Gambrielle’s whole focus is on earning enough points to earn a pass to go home. Not that she misses her family, but she needs time to clear her name and she will never achieve that locked away. Is she crazy…well she is locked in an asylum afterall. She has a lot of problems that we don’t know the full extent behind of why she has them, but she is an intriguing character as she unfolds more and more throughout the book.

Laces is absolutely brilliant! Hands down, intelligently written and pieced together in just the right way to keep the intrigue flowing that I didn’t realize the end was coming until I turned the last page. The bomb dropped on that last page….WHAT!!!!! Tempi, I loved it and didn’t expect it and need more, more, more of Gambrielle and Laces.
