Meet Melissa

I’m an indie author that focuses on contemporary romance with a little bit of everything: humor, angst and sometimes suspense. A Reason To Stay, book one of the Blackwood Series, was my debut novel.

I grew up as a book worm, reading anything and everything and still try to read at least a book a week. I’ve always had an active imagination. Luckily, I now have time to put it to good use writing about characters that are constantly swarming around in my head.

I went from designing buildings to crafting stories. I’m a creative entrepreneur and coffee connoisseur.

Salvation; Made #3
(A standalone within a series)

Publication Date: March 23, 2021

Genre/Tropes: Suspense/Hero Contemporary

Author: Melissa Ellen

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

Fast paced, lots of tension and suspense, with tons of chemistry!

This is my first Melissa Ellen book and I look forward to reading more in the future.

Merrick is a paid mercenary with mad skills not only as a sniper, but also as a hacker. As a hired hitman his special skill set comes in handy working alone, especially since he works on the opposite side of the law. He’s used to being alone, but when he meets Alley Rhodes and discovers she is a woman who dedicates her life to fighting justice and stays firmly in the lines of black and white, he is already gone for the woman regardless of what she does and saving her when she steps in the line of fire will become his salvation.

Salvation is hot, has a quickly paced plot with action and witty banter. Their good cop/bad cop duo when they are out finding clues is a ton of fun to read. Merrick knows how to turn up the heat, whether it’s using his special skills in or out of the bedroom, and Alley knows how to keep him in line. I loved it.

The Guardian; Intelligence Unit #2
(A standalone within a series)

Publication Date: March 9, 2021

Genre/Tropes: Suspense/Forbidden Romance

Author: Kimberly Kincaid

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

A slow burning, high suspense, high stakes romance.

Delia’s world revolves around numbers and when she finds a discrepancy at work and then gets assaulted the very next day after pointing them out, the coincidences could seem to unlikely, but it’s no longer just an unlikely coincidence when Delia sees a photo that may link a cold case that Detective Matteo is working on to her open case and this is when things get a whole lot more interesting.

Delia has had a crush on Matteo for years, but Matteo has been oblivious to it for just as long. For a great detective, for matters of the heart he’s a tad slow. It’s only when Delia’s case pushes them together that his blinders come off and his feelings are pushed to the forefront that he realizes how important Delia has become. Willing to put someone first, before his job for the first time in his life, he’s unwilling to lose Delia, even if it means losing the most important case of his life.

The Guardian is full of plot with high stakes where these two normally unlikely romance characters are thrown into high suspense and find out they have even more in common than they every thought.

Shot in the Dark; Blackbridge Security #2
(A standalone within a series)

by: Marie James

Review Rating:

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

Wren and Whitney’s story will make you giggle and get you hot, both things I absolutely love while I’m reading. 5 ★’s just isn’t enough to give this fun and smexy read!

I knew when I originally met Wren I was completely smitten with him, but that word doesn’t even begin to describe how much I tripped and stumbled head over heels in complete love with this intelligent, witty, filthy talking bird owner, and closet freak in the sheets. Wren is the absolute best. A nerdy wet dream who checked all of my boxes and I love every inch of him!!

Wren Nelson is the intelligence\IT\hacker piece of the puzzle to the Blackbridge Security team. He’s the best in business, but someone with his IT skills doesn’t exactly have high quality social skills. Awkward is his middle name and when he does leave his computer his social time is usually spent with his grandmother. So when he becomes infatuated with the other W. Nelson living in his building he’s just a tad shy and the thought of meeting her in person makes him sweat. Wren instead decides to stalk her online and hack into video feed and watch her through security cameras, instead of talk to her face to face. That is until a chance encounter and Puff Daddy’s potty mouth gives him an opening to take a chance.

Whitney Nelson doesn’t get out much, or really ever, she prefers the safe haven of her apartment and loves that everything can be delivered, but one of the few times she’s in the elevator in her apt she runs into a sexy man carrying a filthy talking bird. Call her instantly whipped and then call her surprised when it’s the same man she’s been gaming with and falling for online. When she discovers that he works for a security company and he can help her out of the jam she’s currently found herself in, her shy gamer is just too perfect to be real.

Wren and Whitney are too adorable and also too filthy for words. Yes, two complete opposite sides of the coin which makes them perfect for each other. They both would probably have never met due to their socially awkward and shy personalities, but together they are able to complete each other in ways they never thought were possible. Their darker prolactivities shine when they are with one another and yet they are also sweetly aware of how self conscious they are and aren’t afraid to talk about it.
I seriously can’t tell you how much I love this vulnerability about both of them.

Everyone should have a partner that they can truly be themselves with express their deepest desires, fantasies, wants and needs and still be loved for their less than stellar moments, like tripping over their own feet. Wren is one my favorite book boyfriends!

Synopsis:

As an IT expert and hacker extraordinaire, Wren Nelson is no stranger to discovering all sorts of secrets online.

He’s a warrior…when he’s behind his computer, that is.

And awkward at best in social situations.

His long hours with Blackbridge Security don’t really provide many opportunities to go out and meet people.

So what is he supposed to do when a wrong delivery—a questionably large box of bedroom toys—ends up in his hands instead of its intended target?

Online stalking has always been his go-to to accumulate information on people, but only seeing Whitney through digital displays isn’t enough. Approaching her doesn’t seem like the best plan either.

What he doesn’t know is that this woman is possibly the only one in existence able to give him a run for his money.

New Release – Maybe Swearing Will Help by Lani Lynn Vale

Image may contain: 2 people, beard, closeup and text

Release Date: March 10

Image may contain: 1 person, standing and text

Ford Spurlock has known Ashe Trammel since they were babies.

He’s also done his level best to stay away from her because every time he gets to within five feet of her, they’re fighting like cats and dogs.

Ashe is the apple of her father’s eye. The motorcycle club princess that was never to be harmed in any way—or touched for that matter. And he’s always resented the fact that she could get away with things that he couldn’t. Things that she then blames on him and he always gets punished for.

Fast forward to adulthood, and Ashe is still off limits. Still driving him insane. Still…beautiful.

She never misses an opportunity to give him hell, either.

That has to be why he agrees to do a photoshoot for KPD SWAT that’ll benefit her charity even when he’d rather shoot himself in the foot with his duty weapon.
***
Ashe never thought he’d agree.

Honestly, she thought she’d ask him, he’d say no, and that’d be the end of it.

She never realized that she’d leave his photo up in her cubicle, and it’d be the last thing that she saw every night as she locked her office door.

When they were kids, Ford used to be that boy that threw dirt at her and pulled her hair.

Now, he’s the same Ford Spurlock, only a whole lot sexier. And a lot harder to say no to.

When he challenges her to one date, she has no other recourse but to agree.

What she didn’t agree to was falling in love with Mr. March. Or wanting to give him everything she had to give.

Review:

Maybe Swearing Will Help is smexy, funny, and sweetly emotional (seriously I cannot stop thinking about the two of them).

I fell in love with Ford and Ashe. The constant frenemy push and pull that they’ve had their entire lives is intoxicating to read and I couldn’t put it down. I had to know what trouble they got into in their youth and then see what steamy emotions they were going to incite in each other as adults. It was all so, so good.

Luckily we didn’t have to wait long to get to the smexy times with these two because whew!!! Ford and Ashe deliver passionate hate-love sex and then we get a delicious story where they both have to come to grips with their frenemy status. This is my favorite SWAT 2.0 story yet.

Hints of what is coming next along with past characters popping in always makes Lani’s stories feel like coming home.

Fries Before Guys; KPD Swat Generation 2.0 #2
(A standalone within a series)

by: Lani Lynn Vale

Review Rating:

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

The most emotional SWAT book to date. I shed so many tears throughout this entire slow burn, age-gap romance.

Avery seriously cannot catch a break. We find that she has lost both of her parents, she’s bullied at school, she’s about to lose her home, and her car is on its last leg. That is just to name a few of things that are going wrong in her life. One of the few things that bring her joy is her photography and the one man she enjoyed taking pictures of, Derek Roberts. It’s too bad he constantly reminds her that he’s too old for her. She will just have to daydream about him, sort of like the rest of her horrible life being different than it really is.

Once Derek meets Avery he can’t seem to stay away from her. The world seems to keep putting her right into his path. He knows he shouldn’t desire someone so young, but he can’t seem to help himself. When he finds out that she’s being abused at school, she’s about to lose her home, and basically that her life is just horrible, Derek seems to find himself by her side even more. She becomes his obsession. One he wants to make a fixture in his life.

Avery’s story will break your heart, it certainly broke mine. For a girl so young to experience so much loss and yet she keeps getting right back up and fighting is extraordinary to read. Derek is the perfect man to be by her side through the hard hitting days, but also the woman he needs to settle his soul.

Synopsis:

Sometimes people come into a person’s life and make their heart skip a beat.

Those people are called cops.

Well, one cop in particular.

A SWAT officer for the Kilgore Police Department, to be specific.

The first time Avery Flynn saw Derek Roberts, she was photographing him for the first annual Kilgore Police Department SWAT calendar. He was leaned back in his squad car, shirtless, and giving her a smile that was completely between them. A smile that hinted at what he wanted to do to her later.

When she scrounges up the courage to ask him out after the photoshoot, he laughs in her face.

Well, screw you, too, Mr. February.

***

Derek Roberts never really paid attention to the photographer.

She was a mousy girl who dressed like a twelve-year-old girl. Her tight leggings, extra baggy Star Trek t-shirt denoting her a Klingon captain, and her surprisingly clean Chucks didn’t leave much of an impression.

Now, the outfit that she was in weeks after he rebuffed her? Yeah, now that caught his attention.

Too bad that happens when he’s trying to save her from what’s sure to be death thanks to an unhinged native Texan who’s convinced she was the reason he lost his last chance at a million dollars.

When he tries to save her, she tells him she’d rather take a cattle prod to the forehead than go anywhere with him.

Challenge. Accepted.

Let’s do a calendar, they said. It’ll be fun, they said.
Well, they—i.e. Kilgore Police Department’s public relations specialists—were wrong.
Now, every time Dax Tremaine walks around a corner, the women of Kilgore, Texas can’t help calling him Mr. January.
Mr. January, can you fix my flat tire? Mr. January, can you cuff me? Mr. January, can you sign my boob?
It goes from bad to worse when even on a SWAT call, the women won’t stay away.
***
It was the worst time of her life. Rowen Roberts had finally admitted to herself that the man she loved would never love her back. She was just fired from her job for violating client confidentiality, and to make matters worse, she’s held up at gunpoint in a convenience store where she only wanted some ice cream to help mask the pain.
The moment the gun is pressed to her forehead, she knows she has a decision to make. Follow the rules and maybe possibly live, or go down swinging where at least she can salvage just a little bit of her dignity.
And when Mr. January himself tells her to do what the gunman says, she’s had enough. Rowen has never really been a girl that does what she’s told. Mr. January won’t have to save her. She can dang well save herself.

Goodbye 2019, Hello 2020! (The Year in Review)

A new Year and a new Decade has arrived!! It hardly seems possible that so much time has passed.

When I look back at the last ten years and think about the significant changes that have happened there is a lot that has occured and also a lot that has stayed the same. I’ve watched my children blossom from little girls into young women, but they are still amazing, beautiful girls with so much ahead of them in life and I can’t wait to see what amazing things they do with their futures. We’ve moved homes and jobs, we’ve lost family members and pets, but through every change we’ve also grown and adapted to who we are or who we will become.

For me, personally, when life throws me something I don’t enjoy dealing with I jump into a fictional world so I don’t have to deal with reality. What better way to escape the harshness of life than to see that someone else’s life is either more screwed up than yours or dream that you were living somewhere else instead of where you currently were or whatever fantasy you wish to escape to. Reading does that in the best way possible.

Let’s get to why you’ve really checked out this page…the best books of 2019!!

The Best Of 2019

There were a lot of strong contenders for each category this past year, but that is never a terrible thing because that means I read a lot of really great books!! What makes it difficult is then narrowing all of those great books into just picking one favorite, so then yes, it is hard. Every author always deserves a “job well done”, their job is not easy. That job well done also goes out to everyone working in the book industry because a book is not raised alone, it takes a village to make it successful (yes, I’m using the child analogy. Just ask any author – their book is very much like birthing and raising a child).  But, enough with my blabbering….

*Every category is totally and completely picked by Kay Daniels Romance and all opinions are my own*

1. The Best Romance Novel of 2019:
    The Kiss Thiefby L.J. Shen

download.jpg

Every year there seems to be a different, but almost similar WOW factor that jumps out among the books I’ve read.  This year the question that kept circling in my mind for best overall book was; What book did I remember (plot, characters, trope, etc…) and what author did I then continue to seek out as the year continued?

Right out of the gate for 2019, I read The Kiss Thief by L. J. Shen. She was a new author for me this year (which also happened to be a personal goal I’d set – see Monthly Author Feature – L.J. Shen) and this also opened up my reading world to a new trope, the antihero. L.J. Shen writes the best broken men who seem so far gone to darkness, but Shen has this beautiful skill to write the strong women to bring these seemingly unredeemable men back from damnation. While these men most often look at themselves as the villian, they become the hero in the eyes of their love. Shen’s plots are emotional and angsty and drag you in with the wonder if the villain really will give up the darkness that resides inside. Will love really win or the darkness that has ruled in their heart for too long? Her books are always page turners and keep me up late into the night reading.

L.J. Shen writes a lot of New Adult angst, especially in a series, but if you haven’t read any of books yet or haven’t read this standalone novel, I highly suggest reading The Kiss Thief!!

Here is the synopsis:

The Kiss Thief is like reading a modern day Romeo and Juliet, but so much better! It was hard to pinpoint an exact category because it contains aspects of New Adult Romance, Mobster Romance, Twisted Fairytale Romance, Contemporary Romance, Shakespeare, and then with some Mythology (which I loved) thrown in. I loved each small dash of flavor and it made for an excellent first read for 2019!!

A story of a Nemesis and a Villain with no chance at a happy ending. Where the prince doesn’t save the princess. He tortures her. And the beauty doesn’t sleep. She’s stuck. In a nightmare.”

Both Wolfe and Francesca are stubborn creatures – a story where pain and torment surface again and again, much at each others hands. There are so many pieces to move into play before either of them even consider the chance of liking one another much less considering a future where a mobster’s daughter and a senator can reside in peace vs. in pieces.

“Falling in love was so tragic.”

Francesca Rossi knows she lives in a locked cage, but is fine with the bars. What may seem weird to some, she doesn’t look at her life as anything but the way it should be. A long line of traditions that she has now been waiting for as she is finally ready for her life to begin. Within her family a Rossi bride has always received a box that contained three notes that would hold a piece of her destiny within them. The one time Francesca went against what the tradition said, she opened the box before her wedding day and read the first note. Upon discovering that she would know her true love when she received her first kiss Francesca took matters into her own hands and decided to seek out her childhood crush, knowing he had to be her true love. When the kiss happened, it was not her first love that Francesca kissed, but instead a wolf in sheeps clothing who devoured her. The wolf stole more than just a kiss as his plans were to stop at nothing until her entire world crumbled around her. Senator Wolfe Keaton was The Kiss Thief and Francesca was about to find out that she was caught in a wicked game. One that she knew nothing about, but would pay the ultimate price for.

“You stole my first kiss. Then my happiness. And finally, my life.”

Wolfe Keaton had wanted only one thing for so long – revenge. Little else mattered aside from bringing Arthur Rossi down to his knees. Taking his only daughter away from him, under the guise of outdated traditions was simply the cherry on top of his long awaited game plan. The fact that Francesca was a thing of beauty made his job just that much sweeter. Given his job with the state she would serve him well as a trinket tucked upon his arm at social gatherings, she was a rare treasure, one he hadn’t been counting on when he began his plan thirteen years ago.  Wolfe certainly didn’t expect to find his new fiancée intelligent and decent, a polar opposite from the man whose blood ran through her veins. His life would be so much easier if she was exactly like the man he was trying to take down, piece by piece. He’d do well to remember that she was just a pawn in his game and not a queen to sit by his side. He had no need for a happy ending with the woman he was soon to call his bride.

“He was hell wrapped in a heavenly rugged mask. He was fire. Gorgeous to eye, lethal to the touch.”

L.J. Shen knows how to write a highly charged story with an antihero like any other. The Kiss Thief is a high octane read that grabs you making you emotionally invested right from the start and has you turning pages late into the night.

2. The Best Romantic Comedy I read in 2019:
Surprise, Baby! by Lex Martin & Leslie McAdam

Romantic Comedy should contain everything that is funny, sassy, make you laugh out loud while still falling madly in love with the characters. It can be a delicate balance between snorting constantly over antics and finding the hero sexy as sin, but a great writer (or in this case writers) did both brilliantly.

Surprise, Baby! is a book that is fun, flirty, dirty, and so, so loveable. While reading, I love to highlight special passages, funny sayings, or memorable moments…I just about highlighted this entire book. I was either in stiches laughing or sighing at all of the loveable/laughable breakout moments. Lex and Leslie are a phenomenal writing duo and I seriously cannot say enough great things about how much I enjoyed reading Surprise, Baby!

Here is the synopsis:

“There’s a fine line between lust and hate.”

Kendall Greer works in public relations and knows all about fixing messes and covering up mistakes. Hence, why Drew Merritt, one of Portland’s most eligible bachelors, is one of her biggest achilles heels. He hasn’t always been responsible, he’s actually been the complete opposite of responsible and a publist’s nightmare. Unfortunately, Drew hasn’t always been on his best behaviour around Kendall, actually he’s typically been at his worst when she’s been around, but you know there’s a fine line between lust and hate.

“Since I’ve known Kendall, she’s yelled at me, lectured me, ignored me, talked over my head, talked down to me, and made sure that there was no chance in hell I’d ever be able to touch her. Kendall’s like a gorgeous IRS auditor – she’s out to prove me wrong, but the words that come out of her mouth make me hard.”-Drew

There is no denying, the attraction they feel towards each other, so when they find themselves stranded, locked away in a mountain cabin, they don’t try to fight what is lying beneath all the layers of bad decisions and bad history.

“Drew 2.0 is…sweet. And dare I say thoughtful? I like this new side to him. More than I care to admit.” Kendall

As Drew and Kendall try to navigate their hot mess of a non-relationship, oops…surprise! Things get complicated.

3. The Best NA Book I read in 2019:
    Cruel Intentions by Siobhan Davis

Cruel Intentions is the first book in a trilogy, The Rydeville Elite series. So I can’t mention the first one without mentioning the others as well; Twisted Betrayal and Sweet Retribution. Siobhan is known for writing angsty, new adult novels, but this entire trilogy goes beyond anything she has written before. The Rydeville Elite series is not only filled with angst, but it is a dark, bully romance that will leave you on the edge of your seat. Each book is filled with so many twists and turns I seriously couldn’t turn the pages fastest enough to find out what happened next.

TB - AN

While Siobhan is known for her emotional, tear-jerking, great plot twists books, and Cruel Intentions was no exception, I had a few more emotions that popped up while I was reading; stunned, shocked, appalled, stomach-churning-but-couldn’t-look-away-intensity and I had to keep reading because I was now addicted to this book.

These were a new emotions for me. Reading this level of darkness and then the need to continue reading it was new. I can’t say I’m normally a fan of dark romance, but Siobhan fed me this trope in a way that I had to keep reading it, I was an instant addict, much in the the same way Abigail, the heroine, felt in seeking vengeance to everyone in her life who had caused her pain, even though she continued to get abused.

Here is the synopsis:

“In the power struggle between two elite groups, one feisty girl will bring them to their knees…”

Cruel Intentions ia a dark romance set in high school. There are a lot of adult themes; abuse, toxic relationships, blackmail, bullying…to just to name a few, but it’s a story of old money vs. new money. One were the children are pitted against each other all based on rules set by their parents and their parents parents and so forth. Abigail is set right in the middle of a battle, she is a pawn and she constantly tries to change her position on the board to become queen.

Abigail is the prime example of how in this world, women have little to no power. Women are only as good as their family name, the state of their virginity, and should be seen and not heard. Abigail Manning hates the world she lives in, but puts of the facade while she has to live in it.

We meet Abby at a very low point in her life, along with her savior, who unbeknownst to her is also her worst nightmare; Camden Marshall.

“I’m drowning in Camden Marshall, both hating and loving it at the same time.”

Cruel Intentions is a dark and twisted story filled with a circle of people that you don’t know who to trust. This is Abby’s everyday life; mistrust, deceit, vengeance. The old elite; Drew, Charlie, and Trent vs. the new elite; Cam, Sawyer, and Jackson. Abby is caught in the middle. A pawn who is pulled between the two worlds in the position for queen.

“How is it I crave the thing I hate the most?’ he whispers, his mouth moving to my jaw. “How do you do that? Make he want you when I despise you?”

Welcome to Rydeville High.

4. My new favorite-discovered-author-to-keep-reading in 2019:
   Charity Ferrell

I set a goal this past year to discover more new authors than I have in the past. Many months it was difficult to narrow down my favorite pick to just one because I discovered many new favorites and while this is a wonderful problem to have because it has opened up new tropes and new worlds I haven’t experienced before it is also a problem because my TBR list has grown to even wider proportions because I’m adding their books in like crackcandy and try to squeeze them in whenever I have time. It isn’t always possible with my review schedule, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t impossible.

Read Monthly Author Feature – Charity Ferrell to read more about my monthly goal and the feature I did on Charity.

I found Charity earlier this year and it happened to be with a book that was already four deep into a series. There was a ton to love about Just Neighbors, but what drove me to read the rest of the series this year (remember my squeezing in–and I definitely made time to squeeze), I loved everything she packed into her writing. Her stories contained depth, I really got to know the characters, to have a deep empathy with them while sharing laughs, steamy moments and crying over emotional times. Just Neighbors was more than just an enemies to lovers romance and while it can be read as a complete standalone, I had to learn more about the people of Blue Beech, so I did. I read Just A Fling, Just One Night, Just Exes, and Just Roommates this year too.

“Every day, my neighbor tells me to have a good morning.
Every day, I tell him to f*ck off.”

The book literally begins with the quote listed above. Further down Chloe’s inner monologue tells us “His voice and I share a love-hate relationship. It makes my panties wet, but I wish it belonged to someone who wasn’t an a**hole.” This has to be one of the best openings to a relationship between two enemies ever.

Right off the bat there are so many questions? What is with the animosity? What did the hottie do? Why is he so nice when clearly Chloe isn’t?

The racing of questions continued in my head while I was chuckling at the quick monologuing and cursing Chloe continued throughout several chapters at the beginning of this book. The aim of all her hatred, Kyle Lane her sexy neighbor, takes the verbal beating in stride, making me laugh even more.  Everything Kyle does only seems to infuriate Chloe further and so their cycle continues with great sarcastic wit.

But why?

“I seriously hate you more than the Grinch hates Christmas.”-Chloe

As their cat and mouse game continues you get glimpses into their past. Kyle has always been Blue Beech’s golden boy or born from a wealthy family. Where as Chloe Fieldgain was born on the wrong side of the tracks, or more appropriately from the trailer park. There is definitely a story there between them, but I won’t spoil what that is because, WHOA! You need to experience everything yourself.

When Kyle finds a way to eventually break through Chloe’s defences, which is both hilarious and steamy, she is also plagued with serious doubts. Mostly considering they have a past, but also with another huge cloud hanging over her. Unsure if they could actually be anything beyond “just neighbors with benefits” be prepared for lots of emotional ups and downs.

“This is it. No going back. I can no longer say I resisted the temptation of Kyle Lane. I’m throwing down the white flag with no apologies.”-Chloe

Just Neighbors is dirty, funny, and packs a whopping emotional punch at the end. A true moment of – Wow, I was not expecting that! – made this an exceptional read and had me searching for everything Charity Ferrell has ever written (to date I’ve read her Blue Beech series, but I still have others on my TBR pile to squeeze in).  This book is so dirty and sweet and a good book to start with if you haven’t read Charity before. I’m someone who doesn’t mind reading out of order, but you do you if you’re a stickler for reading in order and read the entire series today!

5. The Standout Book of 2019:
Praying for Rain by B.B. Easton

PFR - AN.jpg

Praying for Rain is a hard book to fit into one specific trope box. First off, it is an amazing book about two lost people; one clinging to hope and the other just barely hanging on until the end of the world arrives. Rain and Wes become unlikely allies in an apocalyptic world and find themselves working together to outrun the inevitable doomsday.

“None of this matters, and we’re all going to die.”-Rain

Thought provoking. Sexy and raw, on the edge of your seat page turning suspenseful and heartbreaking. The world B.B. Easton has created is like nothing you’ve ever read and you’ll be salivating for more when you finish. Luckily there is more as Praying for Rain is the first in a trilogy and B.B. is set to release the rest in 2020.

Rain Trilogy Release Dates Teaser.png

“Supplies. Shelter. Self-defense.” -Wes

B.B. Easton takes us on a journey into a world filled with chaos, disorder and lawlessness where everyone is waiting for the final days before the apocalypse happens on April 23rd. The day when the four horsemen of the apocalypse appear and wipe out humanity. No one knows exactly how it will happen, just the date, and you’ve either learned to embrace the fate of the world, or perhaps fight against it.

If you haven’t learned to fight for survival, then you are on the brink of starvation, and so many people have given up hope. Rain is walking the brink of hopelessness. Wes has a different plan. Time is running out, the days are getting closer to April 23rd. Wes is doing everything to stick to his plan. Supplies, shelter, self-defense. Rain isn’t a distraction he needs, but he can’t seem to leave her either. Rain’s only wants to help, but in the end when the apocalypse happens and her only reason for living has become Wes. Will it be enough?

Can they survive what’s coming? Can they survive together?

B.B.’s writing is rich and detailed and I am so excited to continue the series and see where B.B. takes us next. If you enjoy dystopian worlds, apocalyptic, loss of humanity reads then I highly recommend this book.

6. The Sexiest Cover of 2019:
    Boyfriend Bargain by Ilsa Madden-Mills

The most tedious and strenuous job I have…picking the sexiest cover.  How will I ever survive? I’m not sure, but I’d do it all again, just for you.

So thank you once again to all the models that rock these photo shoots. You are the MVP’s who light up our dreams.

Tame and not so tame…hottest cover of 2019.

Image may contain: 2 people, text

Soooooo, you all know and love the standards on social media…yes, it’s there to protect us, but seriously, this photo isn’t showing anything more than the sexy V leading to the glorious garden hose of happiness. The rest is just pure imagination, which of course offended someone because the cover model had to have pants on when the book was released. Such a shame. A sexy, sexy, waste of a glorious V shame. So enjoy the view as much as you’d like because I know I do everytime I scroll past it.

Boyfriend Bargain not only had a hot cover, it was also a really good book. If you love new adult sports romance, I highly suggest this book. Zach or “Z” is a very relatable character. While he is a hockey god on campus, he suffers from anxiety. He hides his condition from everyone just trying to live his best life, but that’s not always the best thing to do.

“If people discover I have real issues with anxiety, I’m done in the NHL, all my dreams destroyed.”-Z

Sugar Ryan doesn’t have time to coddle someone like Z. She studies law which has rules and contracts and what she doesn’t want is complications or emotions tied into a boyfriend situation. However, she needs his help getting into law school so when Z agrees to a contract when he actually says yes to her fake boyfriend situation, Sugar couldn’t be happier.

“This crazy, harebrained idea will never work. Plus, I don’t have time for over-the-top, testosterone-driven superstar athletes. Until now, that is.”-Sugar

These two don’t intend to fall in love, or even really care for each other, but life happens. Boyfriend Bargain is full of so much emotion and heart it is an excellent read.

Review – Just Kidding by Lani Lynn Vale

Just Kidding; SWAT Generation 2.0 #1 (Series)
by Lani Lynn Vale (Author)

This review is from: December 27, 2019 By Kay Daniels
Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Heat Level:🔥🔥🔥🔥

A new generation of SWAT is here! Just Kidding is a slow burn romance, filled with lots of supportive characters, and a story with twists and turns.

Rowan Roberts is the daughter to the SWAT chief and sister to a SWAT team member as well, so she is no stranger to this world. When she moves back to Kilgore after being bullied by an ex-coworker her life changes for the better when she runs into Dax Tremaine, a member of SWAT, who not only gives her a reference for a job, but also becomes her new neighbor. Her life is definitely looking up, that is until the bully who ruined her life shows back up.

Dax was burned by an ex-girlfriend a long time ago so he doesn’t trust very easily, but something about Rowan speaks to him. Even though she’s the little sister of his teammate and probably even more so that she’s the daughter of his boss he should probably stay away, but he just can’t. Their easy friendship blossoms into something more and he’s not about to stop the freefall from happening.

Dax and Rowan’s chemistry builds and builds until it finally sizzles and they can’t stay away from each other. Even as they come upon obstacles they stick together and overcome them as a team. I also love that they don’t let others come between them and that their family, whether by blood or team members, are always at the forefront.

Review – If You Say So by Lani Lynn Vale

If You Say So; KPD Motorcycle Patrol #6 (Series)
by Lani Lynn Vale (Author)

This review is from: October 21, 2019 By Kay Daniels
Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Heat Level:🔥🔥🔥

Lani Lynn Vale has done it again!! If You Say So wasn’t anything I expected, it was so much more!

Luca Maldonado left behind his new engaged fiancé, Francesca “Frankie” Solomon to head overseas with his best friend Malaki for a Navy SEALs mission. Two years would go in a blink, but two years actually became a nightmare.

Two long years passed. Two years in which the the men disappeared. Two years in which Frankie never gave up hope. Two years where Frankie prayed for Luca to return home, but instead of Luca a different man returned.

The man who returned had no memory of his previous life. The man who returned didn’t feel comfortable with his own name, in his own clothes, living what was supposed to be his previous life. Perhaps he’s not the man he’s supposed to be, but who does that make him? He has no clue, that is until he sees Frankie Solomon that he actually feels something, but the problem is, should he actually want her? His new name says no, his heart says yes.

If You Say So is touching and emotional. I love how Lani writes military vets with deep emotional depth. Her books hit me in the solar plexus every single time.

ASK ME IF I CARE
SWAT Generation 2.0 Book 4
Release Day – April 14th,
2020
Ares saw him for the first time at a Kilgore Police Department benefit dinner. She’d gone with her dad as his plus one. Hayes Greer had gone by himself and brooded silently across the same table as her, drinking whiskey and not saying a word.
It only took that one time for her to become interested.
The next time she saw him, he was doing another benefit—but
this one requiring a whole lot fewer clothes. And that was when she knew. She wanted him. Badly. But the morose Hayes was too busy thinking about his sins to see what was right in front of his face—Ares.
***
Hayes Greer knew the moment that he saw the feisty Ares
Downy again that he should’ve stayed away. Maybe if he hadn’t done the stupid calendar, he wouldn’t be questioning every single woman’s intentions.
Maybe if he’d listened to that niggling feeling telling him
to stay away, he would’ve been able to do his job a little better. But seeing her with a knife to her throat, in the middle of a building set to blow, made his usually well-wired brain start to malfunction.
Because nobody was allowed to touch her like that—only him.
Nobody was allowed to scare her, either. Not and live to tell the tale.

That is until she hears his voice, and her head turns to see him standing there.
Louis Spurlock. Greek god. SWAT officer. Keeper of her secrets. Ultimate fantasy. Man who will break her heart.
***
Louis Spurlock has been playing nice.
He’s been biding his time, giving Calloway the space she thinks she needs.
But then he sees her taking photos of his friends in all states of dress, talking to them all as if they’re best friends, and that little thread of control he’d been managing to hold onto unravels.
Let’s change it up, she says. And the moment the words are out of her mouth, he’s stripping to his skivvies, and throwing out a challenge while he’s at it.
Calloway won’t know what hit her when he’s through playing.

JOKES ON YOU
SWAT Generation 2.0 Book 5
Release Day – June 09, 2020
Booth Pena definitely didn’t make the smartest of decisions when he was a teenager.
At eighteen, he knocked a girl up and signed up for the military all in the same day—signing his life away in more ways than one. Fast forward six weeks and he’s in bootcamp learning that he’s going to be a father
while also learning that not only is he going to be deployed, but it’s going to stay that way for a year.
There weren’t a lot of things that the baby’s mother and he
saw eye to eye on after that. He honestly wasn’t sure why he even slept with her in the first place.
Okay, that last part is a lie. He knows exactly why he slept
with her. Because the real woman he’s in love with, her twin sister, Dillan, won’t give him the time of day.
Five years later, and he still wants her.
Now he’s home for good, being the best father and police
officer that he can be, and still he’s not good enough.
***
Dillan Davidsdottir hated Booth Pena. Immensely.
She hated him because he slept with her sister, then left.
Granted, she knew that he hadn’t meant to leave like he did, unknowingly and unconsciously leaving his daughter behind, but that didn’t change the fact that he had.
Five years later, and she still dislikes him just as much
now as she did when he chose the wrong sister to take to his bed.
Maybe if he’d chosen her, her heart wouldn’t be broken, and
his wouldn’t be untouchable.
But when a SWAT officer sees his life flash before his eyes,
and decides that enough is enough, what’s a girl to do?

Give in, that’s what.

2019 Goals – Monthly Author Feature – Lani Lynn Vale

2019 Goals. Happy September!! Fall and everything pumpkin flavored is fast upon us. I hope you have been enjoying summer because it is coming to a close for 2019. As much as I love pumpkins and pumpkin flavored things, I’m not exactly a fan of the cooler temperatures that I know are right around the corner.

This will mean an end to long summer nights basking in the warm summer sun while squeezing in my reading until the sunlight fades. Soon all my reading will take place inside most likely under a warm blanket. Sigh…

There were a lot of new summer releases in 2019. So many in fact I wasn’t able to squeeze them all in and basically why I’m so late with posting last months goal. I have so many books currently sitting on my TBR pile, since finding and reading new authors means I have to buy their past books. I just need more hours in the day so I can tackle that pile.

As always, if you’ve missed the past few months, where I not only launched into my journey of 2019 goals, but also highlighted other amazing authors, please check them out by clicking on the links below.

Now—Welcome to August!!

Lani Lynn Vale was another author, like many of the others listed above, that checked off numerous boxes on what I love when reading; suspense, wittiness, great chemistry, emotional empathy, basically the gamet of feels when I’m reading a story. I want to be immersed and along for the ride.  In I’d Rather Not, we meet a dying woman who needs an organ transplant and a soldier who has been given a second chance at life willing to give up his kidney to save her. This story had it all and touched me on every level.

Lani Lynn Vale – and I’d Rather Not

I'd Rather Not (KPD Motorcycle Patrol Book 3) by [Vale, Lani Lynn]

I’d Rather Not blew all my expectations away!! It contained all the feels. It went from emotional to funny to steamy hot to suspenseful. I’d Rather Not has everything plus so much heart, it’s a fantastic read!” ~Read the rest of Kay’s Review: I’d Rather Not

Oakley Spurlock is dying.

Make Me; KPD Motorcycle Patrol #4 (Series)
by Lani Lynn Vale (Author)

This review is from: September 5, 2019 By Kay Daniels
Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Heat Level:🔥🔥🔥🔥

Make Me can be read as a standalone within the KPD series. This is the second book I’ve read by Lani Lynn Vale and both times I’ve enjoyed the ride she took me on. She knows how to combine suspense, emotions, and sultry-steamy bedroom times all into one very good book.

Justice Rector is working undercover for the police department. His objective is to bring down the corruption on Eleventh Street, which all comes down to one man, Marcus Gomez. His operation was going fine until one feisty redhead gets involved, royally screwing up his plans.

Royal St. James works in a shop down on Eleventh Street and she doesn’t like the corruption anymore than the next person, but when her brother gets beaten to within an inch of his life she gets angry and goes looking for answers. This leads her to Justice which also leads her to trouble.

Soon Royal and Justice have to work together to get Marcus’ trail off of her, what it also does is push them both together and ignite a chemistry that is explosive.

Is it possible to clean up Eleventh Street and fall in love at the same time? Anything’s possible under the watch of the KPD.

Fries Before Guys, Book 2, SWAT Generation 2.0 Series     Release Day – February 11, 2020

Image may contain: 1 person, text and closeup

Sometimes people come into a person’s life and make their heart skip a beat. Those people are called cops. Well, one cop in particular. A SWAT officer for the Kilgore Police Department calendar. He was leaned back in his squad car, shirtless, and giving her a smile that was completely between them. A smile that hinted at what he wanted to do to her late.

Now, the outfit that she was in weeks after he rebuffed her.
Challenge. Accepted.

Review – Finding Mercy (Next Generation #3) By Riley Edwards

Finding Mercy; The Next Generation #3 (Series)
by Riley Edwards (Author)

This review is from: February 9, 2019 By Kay Daniels (Kindle Edition-Goodreads)
Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Heat Level:🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

I love reading Riley Edwards. Her characters are rich, full of depth and keep me engaged until the very last page. Mercy and Jason were no exception. I was hooked from the very first page. The Very First Page!!

Jason was a haunted man, losing his wife to cancer, but it wasn’t so much his wife that haunted his past, but his own guilt, shame and inequities. Riley dotes out Jason’s past which keeps you riveted – why is this man carrying so much weight around? GAH!

The story was perfectly crafted and Riley delivered it with excellent timing.

Mercy is also an enigma. Coming off strong, charismatic and so full of life, but just when you think you’ve got her figured out – Bam! She has so many layers.

Both Mercy and Jason work for the DEA, but have never worked together. A case pulls them by each other’s side which creates a spark which is hot (okay, really hot) and also begins the core emotional part of the story! The case also involves a serious drug problem where they have to infiltrate a high school to catch the center of the drug ring.

This sounds a little 21 Jumpstreet, right?

Well, not quite. Let me state, I worked for a school district for a number of years and unfortunately drugs are a serious problem. The common misconception is that it stems from low income, high crime areas. Riley did her homework (pun intended) because the drugs that she writes about do stem from higher affluent, wealthier income schools. It is a real problem and unfortunately it does not appear to be going away anytime soon. I applaud Riley for writing about a real problem. It’s not always easy to do, but it fits nicely in the plot line.

The push and pull of Mercy and Jason is life. We all have our trials and tribulations, filled with family and you’d think when reading you’d want to escape it, but somehow Riley makes me crave it. My TBR pile was growing by the minute as I got to know all the members of the next generation. I’m so looking forward to it!

Review – The Collective Season 2

The Collective Season 2 (Series)
(Authors are listed below by each title)

This review is from: October 18, 2018 By Kay Daniels (Kindle Edition-Goodreads) Due to time constraints I was only able to read 1/2 of the season, the other 1/2 awaits in my TBR-enjoy.
Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Heat Level:🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Eight authors eight standalone novels. The Collective is an epic crossover series that interconnects and weaves a storyline taking you on a thrill ride of deceit and deception. Can you figure out the answer before the very end?

Ensnared: The Collective Season Two, Episode 2
Author: Leona Windwalker
Genre: Male/Male BDSM Romance

Review:

Everything I ever wanted to know about Japanese/American culture. But seriously, Leona Windwalker brought me into a world I knew nothing about and I was transported there living the life with Hisoka. She has a gift with words.

Hisoka Tsukuda has to pick up his life, move away from his family, find a new job and place to live all due to a creepy ex-lover/Dom who turns stalker in the second book of this series. Getting Hisoka‘s new life on track, his new job, where he eats, shops, whom he meets takes up a large chunk of the story, which may seem irrelevant, but don’t let it fool you. Pay close attention because as you continue reading the other books you may remember clues from Hisoka’s new life and those clues may help you solve the case.

Swayed: The Collective Season Two, Episode 4
Author: Erin Trejo
Genre: Mafia Romance

Review:

Erin is the queen of writing a gripping, disturbing love story. One where bloodshed and murder surround a blossoming love story and instead of cringing you still root for the couples love. She is able to shine a light on their very, very dark souls and yet you still root for them.

Neither Luciana nor Nico were looking forward to their arranged marriage, but as with most things when dealing with the mob, neither had a choice. What neither expected was to actually enjoy the other’s company once the deal was done. Luci turned out to be everything Nico never thought possible and yet everything he needed. Nico was exactly what Luci had never wanted, but he completed her in a way she never allowed herself to dream. Now if they could just sway the rest of the mafia to think like they did then life would be living on easy street.

Trust: The Collective Season Two, Episode 6
Author: Riley Edwards
Genre: Detective Suspense Thriller Romance

Review:

Riley Edwards is a master at writing a suspenseful novel. Trust is filled with action, twists and turns.

The city is under siege and things are going downhill fast. Each book has been building upon the other, layer upon layer, have you picked up on all the clues? If you read last seasons series you know sometimes the clues can be deceptive. Trust delves in deep with characters from last season. We met Logan Reid and Ava Kelley in book 1 last season along with their family and friends. Trust focuses on their best friends Aiden “Mac” Mackenzie and “Laura” Harper Russo. Mac and Laura have been playing with a D/s relationship for several months although it’s clear that Mac wants more and Laura isn’t willing to give more.  We learn she is on the run and doesn’t have a real life to give anyone. When reality comes knocking and it’s finally time to say goodbye to the best thing she’s ever known, she finds out the hard way just how stubborn Mac can be and he isn’t going to let her go without one hell of a fight. Thankfully Laura wants Mac to win this one.

There are a lot of clues to be picked up along the way. Are you keeping track?

Redemption: The Collective Season Two, Episode 8
Author: Ellie Masters
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Review:

I love Ellie Masters’ contemporary novels. They are lush, steamy and just darn good.

As the city falls to pieces Jennifer Galloway, a paramedic for San Francisco, has been there to help the victims. From the death of an innocent child that seems to be a catalyst to the riots, to a tenant in Hisoka’s building who was suffering a heart attack, to treating a wounded Aiden and so on and so forth. Jennifer has borne witness to it all. Therein lies the problem with her very story, bearing the burden when she seems to have a problem with bearing her own children.

She and her husband, Patton love one another very much, but have had trouble sustaining a pregnancy on top of additional losses that continue to surround them.  Love may not be enough to get them through their troubled times. With the very city falling into chaos around them it only seems right that nothing else is right in their world either.

With a war on the brink, the city in chaos, and people in an uproar what will become of San Francisco? No one is safe as corrupt politicians and dirty cops rule the street. A child’s death puts targets on the backs of those in law enforcement and sets two cities ablaze with riots. When the police chief’s daughter is kidnapped amid the chaos, will the Collective solve the case and rescue her in time?

It was a beautiful card. The problem was Hisoka wasn’t celebrating. It was another unwanted token from the Dom who’d trained him in the fine art of Shibari and to understand and appreciate the gift of submission. Hisoka knew things had to change as Jeff had become too fixated with having his former apprentice on his knees for him.
Moving to San Francisco should have been a fresh start—a new city, a new job, new friends, and a new club. And, best of all, a new sub. Danilo looked simply gorgeous wearing his Master’s knot work. However, things aren’t going as smoothly as Hisoka had hoped. Family issues, city-wide riots, and a stalker have complicated his life, but he’s determined to stand his ground for one reason—Danilo. The sub is worth it. Will Hisoka keep the best thing that’s ever happened to him or will outside forces destroy everything?

Leona is an Army Brat and veteran as well as a longtime staunch supporter of human rights and environmental causes. Her favourite genre to read is M/M fiction and she particularly enjoys the science fiction, fantasy, and action/suspense subgenres–especially if they have a nice seasoning of romance and at least a hint of kink. She has far too many books on her Kindle, has overloaded her phone with even more and, when not reading, writing, being driven to distraction by her children, or being overlorded by her seven(!) cats and two Newfoundland dogs, can be found trying to locate the portal that the sock monster uses to steal socks from her dryer. That is, when she’s not run off on another adventure while holing up in her beloved caravan.

Remy…

As a rehabilitation therapist for the California State Prison, I look for the best in people. Sometimes, it’s hard for me to find the best in myself though. I only wanted an escape. That’s all I have ever wanted. I walked into that bar and found my escape in a man I had no intentions of seeing again.
I didn’t have any expectations from the stranger from the bar. I didn’t expect him to save me from a riot that broke out in the city. I certainly didn’t expect to feel this unexplainable pull to him. But I do. And now I know who he is. He’s a member of the Iron Claw MC.

Riggers…

She was supposed to be a one-time thing. Neither of us wanted more. Instead, she turned my world upside down. I don’t know who I am when I’m with her. A good guy, or the guy I have always been? The guy who follows orders from my president. No matter the cost.
I can’t expect Remy to be part of my world. She’s heaven and I’m hell. It doesn’t matter that gravity continues to pull us to each other. I can’t drag her down with me, especially when the things I do for the club will forever change her life.

I am a happily married mother of three (two boys and one girl). I live in a very small town in Alabama. Never lived anywhere else. I’ve been writing since my early twenties, but I couldn’t seem to finish a book. I started self-publishing with the encouragement from my mom. Without her encouragement, I don’t think I would’ve done it!

I get my inspiration from life experiences, movies, television, other authors, and music. Music is definitely a big influence on my writing. I can hear a song and it can inspire an entire book for me. I listen to it while I’m driving or before I start writing and it keeps me inspired. I like to put music in my books, even if it’s just one song the characters listen to or hear at some point. Sometimes music has gotten me through the really tough times in my life and that’s why it inspires me.
I like to write fast-paced, steamy romance reads. I like for my males to be alpha-males and my heroines to be strong, but both need to have one weakness- each other. I am an avid reader. I absolutely love romance books!

I am an author that doesn’t fit well into any category. The books I write have romance in them but they are not your typical read. Not all fairytales have a happy ending and in my books, it is always hard for the characters to stay together. They really have to work for it. There is usually a lot of drama and/or suspense also.

Hey everyone. *waves*…For those of you who are new to me, my name is Riley Edwards. My debut novel Nightstalker released in July. It’s a Military Thriller romance. With a badass female lead! Of Course, there is plenty of smoking hot sexiness sprinkled throughout a storyline that will keep you guessing! What is a romance novel without a sexy alpha male that challenges his woman in and out of the sack?

Anyway….back to me. 🙂 I tried to come up with some interesting stuff about myself you would like to know. You know some witty funny stuff that would make me sound
fab-u-lous, but alas I am boring as hell. Just an FYI, nothing will depress you faster than that realization.

A close friend recently described me as, and I quote “You are annoying, brash, sexy, loud, boobed, beautiful, needy, supportive, wonderful, interesting, aggressive, and fun. All to varying degrees throughout each and every day.”

And that about sums me up.

The road was long, it was painful, and it was raw.

It has taken me four years to come to terms with my new reality. A life in which I live with the daily reminders of a vicious attack that has left me scarred both emotionally and physically. Years of recovery and acceptance were torn apart and obliterated the day Special Agent Nick Clark barges into my life. He says the person who attacked me and left me for dead is back. He says I was the first victim – the one who got away. He promises to protect me. But he can’t, no one can.

Nick is relentless in his pursuit and promises me the things I can’t afford to have – like hope for a future with the sexy FBI agent. But hope and love and promises can’t protect me, not when I’m next on the killer’s list.

Meadow Holiday is the missing piece, the woman I’ve been searching for. And it has nothing to do with her being a witness in an unsolved serial killer case I’ve had sitting on my desk for the last four years. I had no business falling in love in the middle of a murder investigation but she’s the one. I feel it deep in my bones. I knew the first time I laid eyes on the shy, beautiful woman that she was mine. Now I’m left with the daunting task of convincing her I’m enough.

Can Nick save Meadow in time and prove his love can heal all wounds, or is he already too late to fix what a sadist serial killer has broken?

EXCERPT

Callie Sheppard was startled by the sound of the door opening. She sat straight up in bed and wondered what the hell she was doing. It had seemed like a great idea at the time, but now a tremor of trepidation ran through her system. She was naked in a notorious BDSM club, waiting for two men to walk in and take her virginity.

It wasn’t that she minded losing her virginity. She wasn’t doing anything interesting with it in the first place. It needed to go, but now she worried this wasn’t the way to do it. She wanted some affection and kindness. Would they give that to her? Oh, god, Stef had found her two guys for her birthday. She’d made him a loaf of zucchini bread and shared a bottle of cheap wine for his. What was she doing?

Could she run? She was naked. That didn’t really bother her, but it could confound a lot of people.

“Hello.” The deepest voice she’d ever heard pulled her from her panic.

She turned and hoped there wasn’t a line of drool running out of her mouth as she caught sight of them. Best birthday present ever. Stef might be straight, but he knew how to pick gorgeous men.

She climbed as gracefully as she could off the big bed and faced them. They were perfect. The one who had spoken was tall. She doubted she would reach his shoulders when she stood against him. He was at least six and a half feet, and his body was corded with muscle. Every piece of him seemed chiseled out of granite. He was male model perfection, with a strong jaw and piercing green eyes. His hair was inky black and curled sweetly over his ears.

His partner wasn’t quite as tall but still was no small man. He was a few inches shorter than the gorgeous monster, and his body held a lean strength. If the black-haired devil was a linebacker, this man was a swimmer. His eyes were a stark blue. His skin was sun kissed and smooth. Callie was fascinated with the idea of soft skin covering steel. His hair was cut in a military style. It was a rich brown. The intimate light of the room caught the gold and red streaks. He looked like a man who laughed often.

Everything inside her heated up at the sight of them, and she wasn’t so scared anymore. Why the hell would she run from all that hotness? And they were handpicked by a man who would never, ever hurt her. She was safe with them.

“Hello.” It seemed like a dumb thing to say to two glorious men when she was naked as the day she was born, but it was all she could think of.

“Hello, Callie.” The other man’s voice was deep, too, but there was an inherent friendliness to his Texas accent. It looked like Stef had found her a couple of cowboys. The blue-eyed man watched her. He gave her a small, calm smile, like he didn’t want to scare her. “Are you nervous, sweetheart? We don’t want you to be. Nothing happens here that you don’t want. All you have to do is say the word and everything stops.”

Their eyes were on her body. Callie had never thought much about her body before. It was a natural thing. She’d grown up in a household where nudity wasn’t frowned on. She was comfortable in her skin, only now she wasn’t. Now she was starting to feel hot and restless. They weren’t avoiding her private parts the way the nudists politely did back in Bliss. These men stared boldly at her breasts, and her breasts seemed to be staring right back. Her nipples were hard nubs.

“Do I get a safe word?” The question came out on a breathy sigh. She’d always wanted to know what it felt like to truly submit. Stefan’s subs always seemed satisfied.

The blue-eyed man’s mouth turned down. “Your safe word is no. We don’t have to play games. All you have to do is say no and we stop.”

“But we can play games if you want to.” That came from the big guy. His husky voice did all sorts of things to her libido. He walked boldly up to her and placed his hands on her hips. His touch lit up her skin. “Do you want to play, darlin’?”

Oh, yeah, she wanted to play.

Falling in love could expose a woman in hiding, in the fourth Ace Security novel from New York Times bestselling author Susan Stoker.

Former mercenary Ryder Sinclair’s stunning discovery that he has three half brothers in Castle Rock, Colorado, is giving them all the chance to color in the spaces of their tragic pasts. For Ryder, establishing roots is made all the more desirable by Felicity Jones. But if Ryder’s instincts are correct, this breathtaking beauty is in trouble.

Castle Rock isn’t Felicity’s home. Like her false identity, it’s just a cover. All she wants is enough cash to keep moving to another temporary hideaway—to stay on the run from a secret that’s haunted her for years. As safe as Ryder’s strong embrace makes her feel, she fears that falling for him, and staying in Colorado, will put everyone she’s come to love in danger.

The more Ryder learns about Felicity, the more determined he is not to let her go. It’s time for her to stop running—even as a relentless danger closes in, threatening their love and their lives.

Read Kay’s Review: I Was Claimed by Stoker Once Again

Excerpt:

Ryder stood behind Felicity as she nervously fumbled with the lock at her apartment door and frowned. There were so many things that were security issues, his fingers twitched with the need to fix them. Her door wasn’t terribly sturdy, as it was simply another door in the interior of the gym. There was a stairwell in the back hall of the gym that led to a skinny hallway on the second floor of the building that needed more lighting. Felicity explained that the other rooms were used for storage, for the most part, which someone could easily hide in. She’d explained that a small apartment was built into the space when the blueprints were drawn up.

It was obvious Felicity wasn’t comfortable having Ryder in her apartment, but she’d just have to get over it. She didn’t know it, but letting him into her private space was akin to agreeing to be his. She wasn’t a woman who trusted easily, and being invited into her apartment seemed intimate. It shouldn’t have felt so right to step inside her place, but it did.

He could smell her scent stronger here. She always smelled good, especially when he’d held her in his arms in the middle of the grocery store, but here it was ten times stronger. Lilacs. It was just one more thing about her that didn’t “fit” her outward appearance.

As he’d pointed out to Logan, she wasn’t tough at all. She was broken. And Ryder knew it because he’d been just like her at one point. The first time he’d killed a man, he fell into a pit of despair so deep he didn’t think he’d ever be able to pull himself out. And to compensate, he’d put on a mask and created a new persona, just as Felicity had.

But he’d only worn his tough-guy image for a year before he’d shed it around his teammates and friends. Friends who truly understood what he was feeling. Felicity had been wearing her take-no-shit exterior so long, there were only glimpses of the tender woman underneath. But Ryder had seen them. Loud and clear. And it was that woman he wanted to know. Wanted to be his. He just needed to chip away at her tough outer shell one bad memory at a time.

They brought the grocery bags into the kitchen, and he handed her items as she put them away. They worked together in a companionable silence. After everything was stowed in its proper spot, she turned and waved her arm around the small apartment, which could be seen from the galley kitchen. “It’s not much.”

And it wasn’t.

It was clinical.

Depressing.

There wasn’t one personal touch in the small space.

I Was Claimed by Stoker Once Again

Claiming Felicity; Ace Security #4 (Series)
by Susan Stoker (Author)

This review is from: February 24, 2018 By Kay Daniels (Kindle Edition-Goodreads)
Rating:⭐⭐⭐⭐
Heat Level:🔥🔥🔥

This was not my first Susan Stoker novel, however, this was my first Ace Security novel. Normally I have not had trouble jumping in mid-series when I’ve read her books since most Stoker novels can be read as standalones. I love that fact that I can decide to read the books in order or jump around if I really fall in love with a secondary character she brings to the forefront. That being said, I found I had a little trouble “catching up” to the backstory that followed Ryder Sinclair into this novel since I had not read the previous Ace Security books. Luckily Susan Stoker is a great writer and doesn’t leave us, the reader, hanging from all mystery and wonder what everyone is talking about forever. If you are like me and want to jump into the book/series like I did with book 4, you will eventually find out what baggage Ryder has brought with him and how it affects those closest to him, just know it might take a few chapters and that it doesn’t take away from the overall plot of what is happening between Ryder and Felicity.

So, now that I’ve hopefully explained my 4 star rating, I do want to tell you what I did love about the book. Ryder is the perfect combination of Alpha and sweet male. Protective, yet sensitive. Probably the ultimate male fantasy, but that is why he’s perfect, right. Then there was Felicity another combination of tough, part-owner of a gym and then sweet, everyone wants to be her best friend female. The perfect couple you want to hate in real life, but couldn’t because they are awesome. Together they have great chemistry and that makes a book very hard to put down.

Felicity “Megan” Jones has been on the run for years. She has become adept at hiding the real her so much that she wonders who that is anymore, but when Ryder Sinclair steps into her world he makes her feel more like herself, her true self, then she has in a very long time. And that is dangerous. Not because she doesn’t want to let Ryder in, but because of what he could expose. She can’t take that chance on letting someone else close get hurt because of her. Not again.

Ryder “Ace” Sinclair wants to settle down, especially now that he’s found his three half brothers. He’d walk away from the hard life he used to live for his family, but even more so he’d do it for Felicity Jones. From the moment he met her he knew she was the woman for him. He also knew she was in trouble. His background as a mercenary rescuing women and children from the dredges of society showed him all the signs of a woman in trouble. He wasn’t about to let anything happen to her, not while he was alive to protect her.

Together they can bring Felicity peace and make sure she never has to run again. Together they can find a future surrounded by family and friends if danger take everything they hope and dream for from them first.

Blurb:

FBI agent Caid King has fought long and hard to end the corruption within his organization. After the fall of Clayton Matthews, he returns to New York with his head held high and his eye on the next target. He never could have imagined that the dangerous man he’s set his sights on would have ties to the beautiful blonde he found himself instantly drawn to.

Jemma Saige thought she had it all figured out. Her rules for survival were simple. Keep your head down, your bags packed, your running shoes on. But when she meets a man at her local gym, their attraction threatens to break the last and most important of those rules: don’t get tied down.

Now with Jemma’s secrets out in the open and both her and Caid’s lives on the line, can they find a way to work together? Or will Caid turn his back on the runner’s daughter?

The Runners Daughter Teasers MASTER.002

EXCERPT:

Jemma stared out the window as Caid drove away. She couldn’t help but feel the added stress with each second he was gone. She looked down at the phone he had given her. He said he wouldn’t be able to answer for about two hours because his other was in his desk, but that he would text her when he got to work.

Then if she needed to hear his voice, she could call. The man who was watching the house seemed nice. He waved at Jemma from the driveway, and Jemma waved back. Caid said the agent was a good one, and wouldn’t enter the house unless he thought necessary.

That gave her a small comfort. She stepped away from the window and walked over to the bookshelf that held a few leisure books. She lifted a Nora Roberts from the collection, and took a seat on the couch.

She hadn’t even been sitting on that couch long enough to finish the first chapter when gunshots rang out, and Jemma’s heart began to pound. She ran to the window and saw the agent who had waved at her not minutes before lying face down in the driveway, while three armed men came for her.

“I have always had a love of stories and the different worlds you are able to explore when you crack open the cover to a good book.”

I was born in California and moved to Texas with my family when I was a teenager. I have always been an avid reader and have been writing stories since I was a kid! It has always been a dream of mine to have my stories published and it is beyond exciting to see that dream coming true!

I have a caffeine addiction, I am a wine (red!!) lover (my favorite being Crush by Dreaming Tree!) and I love T-shirts (the kind with the hilarious sayings on them). I am OBSESSED with the TV show Scrubs and I watch it constantly. I have an amazing husband who is more supportive than I could have ever hoped for, two sweet kiddos (who keep my life wonderfully eventful), three dogs, a rabbit, and most recently Hefty Smurf the beta fish.

Growing up, reading was my way to escape reality whether it was good or bad at the time and I want my stories to offer readers the same kind of adventure I have sought out in between the covers of a book.
