New York Times bestselling author Katy Regnery returns with the fifth book in her Odds-Are-Good series!

Tony moved to small, remote Craig, Alaska, three years ago in the hopes of disappearing from his uncle’s mob associates in northern New Jersey. But Alaska ain’t home. And he misses the Jersey girls he grew up with.

On behalf of all the “plain Janes” in the world, Tessa answers Tony’s personal ad, intending to teach its cocky, conceited author an important lesson: he ain’t all that. But something about Tony draws her in. And when she finds herself (and her 3-year-old daughter) in danger, she flees to Craig to disappear with Tony.

Now, Craig may be remote, but it’s still in the U.S. … Tony and Tessa won’t be able to stay hidden forever. When their pasts catch up with them, difficult choices will need to be made, and a deep love that once seemed unlikely might not be enough to save the day.

Review:

Sleep – who needs sleep? Well, Rip did, but me? I couldn’t put this book down!! I loved every moment and didn’t regret staying up until all hours of the night!

The journey of Rip and Trina, and I’m talking the total journey from childhood to adulthood, was touching, devastating, emotional, and full of so much heart, Katy poured her entire soul into this book.

Every aspect that involves growing pains, whether you are navigating the popular side of social status or living in the world of social siberia just making it to graduation, Rip and Trina’s lives cross over and over leading up to graduation day. Their choices in young adulthood lead to major ramifications that forever change their path and their destiny.

Twenty years later Rip and Katrina’s lives are still entwined, but their social factors are much different, along with their family status’ and professional stations. Rip and Katrina have a lot of water under the bridge to wade through now that Rip is awake, but can things ever really be the same when the world has basically been on pause for twenty years?

I don’t normally stay up as late as I did reading, but I was completely transfixed by their journey. I couldn’t put it down until I finished every last word. Don’t miss Van Tassel and Van Winkle as they discover how to love in their new normal.

At First Sight; A Modern Fairytale #7
(A novella interconnected within a series)

by: Katy Regnery

Review Rating:

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

At First Sight is a modern twist on a classic fairytale, Aladdin. Katy Regnery gives us a second chance romance of an Italian Princess, Valentina, and an Irish street rat, Ian and a love that transcends time.

This unlikely pair meets in Ireland as young teens, and like in the classic tale, they spend a night together viewing the sights through Ian’s world something the young princess would never have done from her lofty station. Circumstances and time rip them apart and it’s fifteen years until they find one another again. If the fairytale holds true, these star crossed lovers are destined to be together no matter that Ian was once a street rat.

All the classic components are woven into this modern twist while still giving At First Sight it’s own unique feel. It’s a lovely novella that fits beautifully with Katy’s fairytale collection.

My Valdez Valentine; Odds Are Good #4
(A standalone within a series)

by: Katy Regnery

Review Rating:

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

An intense, page-turning hit, full of emotional topics. Katy Regnery kept me up late with this highly emotional book.

In My Valdez Valentine Addison, an LA divorce attorney, receives a desperate call from her adventurous brother that unfortunately cuts in and out. Elliot gave her bits of information that leads her to believe he’s in trouble. This isn’t the first time her brother has gone off on a dangerous adventure, but something about this message sounds more ominous than most. Addison heads to Alaska and hires Gideon, a helicopter tour pilot, to help search for him, fearing her brother may have little time left and since she isn’t familiar with the area she needs all the help she can get.
I love that even though Addison is smart and normally has a level head on her shoulders, when it comes to her wild brother, she does anything she can to take care of him. Addison proclaims not to understand misplaced emotions, or to ever succumb to the frivolous emotion of love, but the one exception in her life is her brother. She doesn’t want to give up the search and that is where Gideon steps in. Their connection is immediate, but she puts it on a backshelf in lieu of finding her brother.

Gideon is a helicopter tour pilot, so he knows the area, but he is not normally in the business of search and rescue. When Addison shows up asking questions about her lost brother, he offers his services and he’s drawn to her for reasons he can’t really explain. Gideon is just a good guy, no ifs, ands, or buts. He is the perfect mix of horny, hot male and sweet, loving gentleman. For Gideon his attraction to Addison is instant, but he also doubts his own attraction from her numerous times, which is heartbreaking, but also makes him very easy to fall for. Addison is quick to compliment and put him at ease, which lights him up. He’s very easy to please and super patient. Once you get to know both of their backgrounds you realize they are a perfect match for one another.
Gideon has a huge heart which he made it kind of hard to hide, but Addison’s lack of wanting to fall in love made it easy for Gideon to get away with him wearing his on his sleeve. He’s not a pushover by any means, so don’t misconstrue what I’m saying. Gideon is exactly what Addison needs in her life to help her understand the feelings she’s never experienced before. This is where I think they are the perfect give and take couple.

I love the chemistry they have, but constantly try to keep at bay. They are both extremely intelligent people and try to tackle their relationship intellectually vs. hormonally, but how long can that last….yeah I love this side of the human species, because chemistry and explosions are bound to happen eventually when the heat is turned up. Well done Katy! You are amazing and tackled some very tough issues in this beautiful story. Another hit in the Odds-Are-Good series.

Synopsis:

Fall in love with Katy Regnery’s superhot Alaskan men…

When Los Angeles lawyer Addison receives a desperate voicemail from her adventure-seeking brother, Elliot, she hires Alaskan helicopter pilot Gideon (whom she first discovers via an ad in the Odds Are Good) to take her to her brother’s last known location. As the two uncover more and more details about Elliot’s last days, they find themselves falling deeply for each other.

New Release – A Fairbanks Affair by Katy Regnery

New York Times bestselling author Katy Regnery returns with the third book in her Odds-Are-Good series!

Three nights. Two of us. One bed. Zero chance at love.

Successful distillery owner, Trevor Starling, was left betrayed and broken-hearted when his brother and fiancée had sex the night before Trevor’s wedding. Anticipating a lonely New Year’s celebration, he places an ad in The Odds Are Good for a no-strings attached weekend of hot sex.

A Fairbanks Affair; Odds Are Good #3 (Series)
by Katy Regnery (Author)

This review is from: November 30, 2019 By Kay Daniels
Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Heat Level:🔥🔥🔥

I love everything about Katy Regnery’s Odds Are Good series!! Once again I was brought into her world that I didn’t want to leave, I also fell in love people I connected with and want to revisit over and over again.

Trevor, aka Mr. Fairbanks, isn’t looking for love. He was burned in the worst possible way, not only by his ex, but also by his brother. Trevor places an ad in the Odds Are Good  magazine for a discreet, intimate weekend over New Years with zero chance for love, but what he finds is more than he ever bargained for.

Faye is a successful business woman who hasn’t had time for a personal life. Losing her parents while still in college and then taking over the care of her younger sister didn’t leave room to look for love. When she spots Mr. Fairbanks advertisement it intrigues her for many reasons. First, his use of vocabulary (because big words used correctly are ultra sexy). Second, he lives in a town where she has been interested in acquiring a new distillery, the trip to Alaska will ultimately kill two birds with one stone. Third and probably most important, she’s still a virgin and losing her v-card is starting to become a ticking timebomb. Being a thirty year old virgin is a strange oddity and losing this one dreaded thing to a stranger seems better than explaining it to the next man she actually wants to date. She’s been there, done that, and it never goes well.

All goes well with the plans in place for Mr. Fairbanks and “Faith” (Faye uses an alias too) and they plan to meet the weekend of New Years.  That is until Trevor and Faye meet in person the week prior and the two real people hit it off. As they get to know each other they begin to feel guilty that they have an upcoming tryst with a “stranger”. Do they keep their standing plans or keep getting to know the person in front of them? Neither planned on real feelings, but is it possible for plans to change?

Trevor and Faye and a wonderful couple together. Healing and growing in that beautiful way that Katy writes broken characters. The Fairbanks Affair is a perfect story for the holiday season.

I was not prepared for the blubbering, ugly cry that Nome-o Seeks Juliet let me have. The emotional feels Katy brought to life in these characters doesn’t even begin to describe the ups and downs you will take on this journey. It’s a day later and I’m still tearing up over Cody and Juliet. Nome-o Seeks Juliet is a story that is going to crawl inside your heart and live there.

Cody Garrison is a military vet, living in the outskirts of Alaska with his nineteen dogs. He’s been training his dogs for dog sledding and specifically the one coming up is a co-ed race. His main problem, he doesn’t have a co-ed partner to race with. His secondary problems he doesn’t like to talk about. Nome, Alaska is a small town so he places an ad in the Odds Are Good magazine hoping to reach a wider field. With his play on words he was shocked when a woman named Juliet answers. Call it destiny or fate, but watch out Nomeo your life is about to change.

Juliet Sanderson is in her final year of veterinary school. For her fellowship she is supposed to write a study on the relationship between sled dogs and their owners. Her initial contact fell through so when she sees Cody’s ad looking for a sledding partner she responds. Cody may not be a known name the mushing field and she may not exactly have sledding experience, but spending time with him and his dogs learning is better than not submitting a paper at all. Taking destiny by the horns, off to the middle of No-Where-Alaska she goes for the experience that changes her life.

Nome-o Seeks Juliet is such a beautiful story. The human nature of wanting to love and be loved radiates off the pages. Katy Regnery, thank you for the ugly crying and beautiful heartfelt moments. I loved this book more than I can possibly say!

Single In Sitka; The Odds Are Good #1 (Series)
by Katy Regnery (Author)

This review is from: September 30, 2019 By Kay Daniels
Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Heat Level:🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Considering the amazing lineup of excellent books that Regnery has penned, Single In Sitka is one of my favorite series books of Katy’s to date. This book contains it all; sizzling heat between a sexy, single dad and a work-driven journalist. Heart pounding, emotional moments ranging from tears to anxiety to deep swooning. Along with fabulous secondary characters that enrich the story. Single in Sitka is a book you don’t want to miss in 2019!

Amanda finds an ad in the Odds Are Good online dating magazine describing Luke; a single guy in Alaska looking for love. She’s never been to Alaska, but she is picturing a hunky man who can fulfill her nightly fantasies better than her cheating ex ever could. When she’s pressed to fulfill a deadline for where she works, her writing partner throws out the idea of saving the bears in Alaska thus giving her the opportunity to find her hunky soulmate. Unable to turn down a writing assignment…Amanda suddenly finds herself in Alaska with the ability to look up Luke; Mr. Single and hopefully hunky, dreamy Luke. When in Alaska and all that.

Luckily Luke is actually who he says he is, BUT he didn’t place the ad, his sister did. Nothing like a bit of awkward to start things off. You see, the reason Luke is single, his wife passed away two years ago and his sister feels it’s time to get back on the proverbial horse. She’s worried about him. While she takes his kids for the weekend, he meets Amanda and they do hit it off, but decide on a no-strings, just fun agreement. Perfect. She’s only in town for two weeks as it is. Things are great until they both get attached and two weeks aren’t nearly enough.

What do you do when the person you’re falling for lives 800 miles away? How do people make these long distance relationships work? Should they just chalk it up as a fling and move on?

There are so many variables and moving parts when it comes to falling in love as a single father. Luke as an AH HA moment when he realized that when he fell in love with his wife it was just the two of them and he could devote all of his attention to just her. Now, even if he wanted to spend every waking hour with Amanda he couldn’t. He had responsibilities, not that he would trade them for the world, he loved his kids, but this time around it was just different which meant he had to do things differently. I love these kind of intricate details that seem so minute, but add so much flavor

Single in Sitka is such a great story and even though it is a complete standalone I can’t wait to return to Alaska and see what Katy has in store for us next.

  • SINGLE IN SITKA is the first book in a new five-book series, The Odds Are Good

Seven brand new novella’s to finish off your summer!

Melanie Moreland – The Summer of Us

She was the light in my dark life. The sunshine that warmed me and made me smile.
We had one summer. One perfect summer, until the day it ended.
Years later, she walked back into my life. Older. Sadder. More beautiful than ever.
How can I prove to her that summer was real?
How do I make her see that boy that loved her then, still loves her now?
How do we get back to the summer when we were us?

Amy Briggs – The Inheritance

In the affluent seaside town of Port Henry, New York, Riley Maxwell inherits a house with more than one surprise she doesn’t intend to keep. When the local veterinarian meets her, he can’t resist pursuing a new summer fling. But, when secrets are revealed, they find themselves in more than just a summer affair.

Caisey Quinn – Summer Seduction

Emersyn Tyler is having one rough summer.
When her mom’s violent temper and recent diagnosis send her dad packing, she’s left to take care of her little brother alone.
Forget basking in the sunshine, she’s busy working full-time and taking summer classes at the local college so she can graduate high school. Until her friend drags her to a carnival where she runs smack into him.
The blue-eyed Adonis from her art history class.
Aiden Singleton isn’t looking for anything more than a meaningless hook-up. Finishing his graduate degree so that he can teach history and coach hockey in the fall, he’s got plenty on his plate without any added complications. But when a blond-haired beauty needs his help, all he can say is yes.

Heidi McLaughlin – By the Seaside

Dr. Danny Weatherly never had planned to take over his dad’s practice but when everything changed after one awful day, the summer before college, he really didn’t think about much of anything at all — because his life was over. His true love hated him. . . and for good reason.
Kelly Taft is moving back to her hometown, Gray, North Carolina. Back to her family, back to her friends — back to some good memories and back to some memories that were not so good. In fact, she’s never gotten over that one horrible day that sent her running in the first place.

Danielle Pearl – Love’s a Beach

Liza Farrell is a townie and she has no qualms about it. It’s her quasi-boyfriend who has issues with the “summer people” and at this point she wishes he wasn’t her boyfriend at all.
With college looming just a couple of months away, she couldn’t be more eager to begin the next stage of her life. That is, until Noah Reed returns to town, shaking up both her present, and her future.

Katy Regnery- Single in Sitka

A single Dad. A personal ad. What could possibly go wrong?
When Seattle journalist, Amanda McKendrick, pitches a new story about the increase of bear attacks in Sitka, her newspaper sends her north for two weeks. While there, she answers the personal ad of single dad, Luke Kingston, looking for a little no-strings-attached fun to pass the time.

Shari J. Ryan – The Secret at Sunset

When a girls’ weekend getaway turns into more than Alexa Cale bargained for, she sets off alone on a sunset stroll, seeking a small cove nestled in the ocean’s inlet of Cabos San Lucas. No one warned Alexa that the high tide will swallow the hiking path. Stranded on rocks between the beach and ocean, Alexa finds herself thankful for Lincoln Holt, an attractive survivalist who purposely loses track of the tide’s time.

One Hot Summer is an anthology comprised of seven stories written by seven different authors. I read Single in Sitka for review purposes, but I’m itching to dive back in and read the rest because I loved Katy’s addition to this anthology and the other stories look just as good.

Melanie Moreland – The Summer of Us
Amy Briggs – The Inheritance
Caisey Quinn – Summer Seduction
Heidi McLaughlin – By The Seaside
Danielle Pearl – Love’s a Beach
Katy Regnery – Single in Sitka
Shari J. Ryan – The Secret at Sunset

Katy Regnery – Single in Sitka

Katy did not disappoint with her addition to this anthology. Single in Sitka is about a journalist, Amanda, who finds herself in Sitka, Alaska chronicling information about recent bear attacks. Amanda is only in town for two weeks, but while there she also answers a personal ad of single dad, Luke Kingston, perhaps she doesn’t have to be lonely while finding out information for her job. She isn’t exactly ready for a long term commitment again, not after her long term boyfriend cheated on her and left.

Luke didn’t really place the ad looking for a no-strings-attached-get-back-on-the-horse kind of relationship, his sister actually did. It wasn’t that kind of ad…het our minds out of the gutter… she placed in the hopes that he would find something long term, but when Luke meets Amanda they both agree the short-term relationship is the way to go. He hasn’t been on a date since his wife died two years ago and Amanda is his first step out in the dating world again.

As Amanda and Luke get to know one another, it does get a little tougher to see the short term relationship come to end, but that was their rule going into the arrangement. Neither Luke nor Amanda want to leave with a broken heart.

This is the first part to their love story, the second half will arrive in October. I’m really looking forward to seeing how their romance plays out. This is a very steamy new romance series and Katy never disappoints in writing a fantastic romance.

Arrange Me, The Arranged Duo, #1

My name is Courtney Jane Salinger…
and I’m sick of games.

Sick of the Friday night bar-scene-cum-meat-market.
Sick of the boy-girl, man-woman, Mars-Venus, flirtation-without-expectation, game-playing nonsense.
Sick of awful dates and one-night stands, booty calls and guys who don’t call back, mixed messages or NO messages and—and—and…I’m sick of all of it.

I’m done.
I just can’t do it anymore.
It’s too hard, and worse: little by little, it’s making me hard.
It’s breaking my heart.

What do I want?
That’s easy.

I want a house in suburbia with a white picket fence.
I want babies to buckle into a minivan.
But most of all, I want to be married.
I want a husband.

So I’ve made an important decision: I’m making my escape from the dating world and the single life.
I’ve filled out my application on ArrangeMe.com and I’m putting my fate into the hands of experts.

Is it a little scary?
Sure.
I mean, I have no idea who I’ll end up with.
After all, I’m planning to marry a complete stranger.

But between you and me?
I can’t wait.

Being arranged can’t possibly be worse than being single.
Can it?

Review – Arrange Me by Katy Regnery

Arrange Me; The Arranged Duo #1 (Duet)
by Katy Regnery (Author)

This review is from: February 27, 2019 By Kay Daniels (Kindle Edition-Goodreads)
Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Heat Level:🔥🔥🔥

Arrange Me is pure perfection! Katy Regnery has arranged a fun, witty new romance that had me smiling through the entire book.

Courtney Salinger is tired of dating. She’s tired of flirting, no call-backs, getting dumped, the witty banter, getting ghosted, the entire scene in general. She is ready to settle down and she is ready to settle down now. The one tiny problem with settling down now is she doesn’t have someone special to settle down with.

Okay, that might be a big problem.

That is until she finds out about Arrange Me.com The idea seems so simple. Enter your information, get matched to your soulmate and meet your soulmate on your wedding day. Easy peasy. No dating, no mess, just wedded bliss.

Everything should be great. Everything should go as planned. That is until Josh-the-charming-bartender-Dalton asks Courtney on a date. Well, not really a date because she isn’t dating and Josh doesn’t date people from the bar where he works so perhaps their friendship could work. Their non-date really isn’t an issue they are just two friends who happen to like plays and occasionally holding hands.

So what’s the harm in asking that same friend, who just so happens to be good looking, like really good looking, especially in a tux, to a wedding where Courtney doesn’t want to be set up by her mother again, because she isn’t dating. Josh makes that decision easy. She is just bringing a friend. A very good looking friend.

Why doesn’t it work that Josh can’t be on the same timeline as Courtney who wants to be married now and even though Josh wants to be married….someday…it isn’t now. Josh wants more, but Courtney wants forever.

What do you do when the person you want wants something else, but the end destination is ultimately the same?

Instead of going inside, I walk around the house, to the backyard, to see if I can help bring in any dirty dishes, but the picnic table is empty. All traces of our dinner party have already been cleaned up by the Ducharmes siblings.
I look up at the midnight sky, at the dozens and dozens of stars, and I wonder if Gus is right. What he says feels right, but I feel very young and very small as I stare up at the universe. It’s not wrong to give yourself over to loving if the chance arises.
“We get amazing night skies up here.”
I look over my shoulder and find Julian, tall, barefoot, and beautiful, walking toward me.
“Yes, you do,” I answer, giving him a shy and tentative smile before I turn my attention back upward.
My skin prickles with awareness. My lips tingle, remembering the insistent pressure of his. And elsewhere in my body, I clench hard, willing those deep-set tremors not to start up again right now. I want to believe what Gus has told me—that liking and wanting a man isn’t wrong—but it’s new to me, and I need a little time to reconcile my desire and conscience together.
“When I lived in DC, it was what I missed the most, besides Noelle. More than the cheese. More than the beer. More than the skiing.” He stops, standing beside me, staring up at the firmament. “I missed Vermont’s night skies. And the millions of stars.”
“I can see why,” I say. “When I lived in LA, I never saw stars.” I giggle. “I mean, I saw the people kind, but not the sky kind.”
“Who’s the most famous person you ever met?”
“Hmm. Maybe . . . Gigi Hadid . . . or Bella? Hmm . . . Or Cara Delevingne? Kate Moss mentored my m—Tig for a while, um, and she knew Gisele, of course. Also—”
“Wait a second! Gisele? Did you ever meet Tom Brady?” he asks, his voice eager.
“Let me guess.” I glance at his face. “Patriots fan?”
“The biggest.”
“Tig went to their wedding, but I never met him. Sorry,” I say, giggling as he lays a hand over his heart and pretends to cry. “Speaking of the rich and famous, Noelle tells me you met the vice president while you worked in Washington.”
“She did?” His teasing expression disappears quickly as he straightens, dropping his hand. “Uh, yeah. Long time ago.”
“Not so long,” I say.
“Yeah, well . . . I guess it just feels like a while ago.” I wait for him to say more, hoping to learn why he left Washington so abruptly, but he stretches his arms over his head and yawns. “I’m tired. You must be exhausted.”
“At school I was on the dining hall rotation, which meant cooking for one hundred souls regularly. Tonight was a breeze.”
“Your soup was amazing.”
“Thank you.”
“The steak too.”
“Thank you again.”
“And the tart.”
“That was your sister. Let her know you thought so.”
“And the kiss.”
“Thank—” I’m grinning at him, but my eyes widen at his unexpected compliment, and I immediately look back up at the sky. It’s dark out so he can’t see my blush.
His chuckle is soft and low beside me, and maybe I’m wicked for not feeling more guilty, but I feel my smile grow as I trace Orion’s belt. I don’t dare look at him, but I feel him step closer to me, the warmth of his chest radiating against my back. If I moved slightly, one step even, his body would be flush against mine, and the shiver down my arms has nothing to do with the night chill. I want him to touch me, but I know he won’t.
As though he can read my mind, he whispers, close to my ear, “Not unless you ask.”
I close my eyes and say a prayer for strength and virtue, which, sadly, works, because the next thing I hear is his footsteps receding.
“Good night, sweet Ashley,” he says to my back, his voice a low rumble.
My eyes open slowly to the glittering heavens.
“Good night, sweet prince,” I whisper to Julian’s stars.

My eyes skitter to the barn, where I can hear voices raised in increasing anger. Suddenly a man comes stalking out of the door, wearing a T-shirt, jeans, and black leather gloves that cover his forearms. He takes them off and tucks them under his arm as he approaches me.
“Are you kidding me, Jock?” he asks over his shoulder, practically spitting the words. “Goddamnit.”
Jock calls to the man from the barn door, and that’s when I see a reddish-brown hound escape from behind Jock, rushing across the driveway toward me.
A dog!
I feel my face split into a grin. I love dogs. With the exception of Mosier’s attack animals, I have always loved dogs, but Tig never let me have one. There’s a dog here? Oh, God, please let this work out. Please let me rest here a while.
I squat down, holding out my hand to the animal as he approaches. He sniffs my hands before letting me pet him behind pendulous, curtainlike, velvet-soft ears. “Hello, baby. You’re so beautiful, you sweet, sweet girl.”
“He’s male,” spits a voice over my head.
I look up, rising slowly, unable to look away from the man yelling at me.
Eyes.
Bright green and heavily lashed, they widen in surprise, staring into mine for a long and life-changing moment before they narrow with anger, sliding away from me and back to Jock.
I don’t hear anything as his voice lowers to a point of fury, likely telling Jock all the reasons I am unwanted here. Usually it would sting a little to watch someone reject me summarily on first meeting, but I am so mesmerized by his face, by his body, by his rugged and innate beauty, I can barely breathe, let alone force my ears to function in any sort of meaningful way.
He is tall. Taller than me, six two or six three, with a clearly defined, muscled body under a gray T-shirt and beat-up jeans slung low on his hips. He wears boots that, in the sunlight, appear to be flecked with a million pieces of diamond dust—they twinkle every time he moves them. With his hands on his hips, the cords of sinew in his forearms pop just enough to create a map of trails that lead to his wrists and hands. The backs of his hands, like his boots, are dusted with diamonds, and when he raises one to reinforce one of the many reasons I absolutely may not stay here, it catches the sunlight and sparkles.
As I stare at his hand, I  realize it’s quiet—really quiet—and the silence startles me back to reality.
I look at Gus, who darts a quick and disappointed glance at Julian.
“Happy now?”
I slide my eyes—slowly, bracing myself for impact all the while—to Julian, watching him flinch, his jaw tight and his pink lips pursed as he regards me.
“I’m not trying to offend you,” he huffs.
“I’m . . . not offended,” I answer, my voice lower than usual. I’m being honest. I haven’t heard a single word he’s said.
“Of course she’s fucking offended,” says Jock, the expletive almost comical when delivered in his British accent.
But Gus knows better, and the expression on his face proves it. He knows that I am accustomed to being rejected and it doesn’t bother me in the way it would shock and distress another woman.
“She has nowhere else to go,” he says quietly.
“And this is my land,” Jock adds with quiet steel, his gentility back in check.
“So you’re going to force me to have this . . . this . . . this girl stay here.”
But this does offend me, in fact, because I’ve been waiting to be a woman for a long time, and at eighteen, I’m allowed to wear the title.
“I’m an adult,” I hear myself say.
“Barely,” he shoots back, his eyes changing color to a dark and angry evergreen.
“I’ll stay out of your way,” I assure him. “I’m good at that.”
“Fuck this,” mutters Julian, running a hand through his hair and looking pissed. “Fine! But I stay rent free as long as she’s here.”
“Done,” says Jock, holding out his hand to shake on it.
Julian raises his sparkling hand and shakes with his landlord before putting his gloves back on and leveling an angry gaze at me. “Stay the fuc—” He pauses, his jaw ticking as he struggles for self-control. Finally he manages to grind out: “Stay out of my way.”
“No prob—” I start to say, but he turns on his heel and stalks back to the barn, disappearing into its inky depths. The dog stares up at me for a moment, his hound eyes mournful, as though wishing he could apologize for his owner’s rough behavior. After a beat, he turns forlornly and lumbers after his master.
“That went well,” says Gus.
“Moody bastard,” mutters Jock.

Review – Fragments of Ash

Fragments of Ash – A Modern Fairytale #7 (Standalone)
by Katy Regnery (Author)

This review is from: September 22, 2018 By Kay Daniels (Kindle Edition-Goodreads)
Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Heat Level:🔥🔥🔥

Fragments of Ash, a twisted retelling of the beloved fairytale, Cinderella. Katy Regnery has perfected the art to take a familiar tale and make it her own. From page one she drew me in and had me in her grasp until the very end.

In a recent Q&A, Katy revealed how she came up with the skeleton framework to Fragments of Ash. Hearing her answer sucked me in and I knew I had to read this book even more than I did just knowing it was another awesome Katy Regnery book. You see, I love a twisted fairytale and Katy is a master of this genre, but knowing that Cinderella wasn’t one of her favorite stories and then reading how she completely flipped it on it’s head, I was pretty much salvating for this book.  I won’t give too much of the story away in my review, but I will tell you that it is haunting, compelling, and down right amazing.

Here is a snippet of what that Q&A involved with Katy Regnery:

“To be really honest, Cinderella isn’t one of my favorite fairytales, but over the years I noted that my fans always suggested it.

Basically, I looked at the characters and bones of the fairytale first…

Characters: dead mother, dead father, orphaned girl, mean stepmother, mean stepsisters, fairy godmother, prince charming.

Bones: Girl loses parents. Girl lives with malicious stepparent and stepsiblings. Girl is made to work like a slave. Girl loses hope. Girl meets prince who gives her hope. Girl almost loses prince. Prince finds girl. Girl and Prince live happily ever after.

Once I had the characters and bones outlined, I could change things up!

Instead of an evil stepmother, how about an evil stepfather? Oooo! And she’s a young girl so he can really frighten her and threaten her! Like, be a disgusting and lecherous fucker. Yes! And, hmm…how about a fairy godFATHER, instead of a fairy godmother? And while we’re at it, let’s make him this amazing, charismatic, black gay man! YES! Perfect! And Prince Charming…hmm. What if he’s fallen from grace before the story even begins? LOVE IT! Neither charming, nor a prince, on the outside, maybe his valor is waiting to be proven? YES YES YES! And suddenly, peeps?

I had a story.” (From Romance by Katy Regnery 9/6/18)

Ashley Ellis is on the run. The daughter of a retired supermodel, Tigin, Ashley has to outrun a monster, her stepfather Mosier Răumann. He has made it clear that Ashley is his next intended wife now that Tigin has mysteriously died.

Over twice Ashley’s age and the head of the Răumann crime family, Ashley has no intention of becoming his next bride, cause ewwwww, it’s her stepfather, and double ewwww, he’s an old man (although some people are into that kind of thing, young Ashley is not.) Running to the only person she knows, her godfather Gus, she seeks shelter and asylum.  In doing so Ashley meets Julian, a man who has also been running from his own past. Julian is no prince charming, he’s a bit more like Shrek the ogre when they first meet, but Julian has his own reasons for growling and stomping about. A glass blower by trade, he once worked in security, but now blows glass full time just like his father did.

Two broken souls, shaped by their past. When they finally let their guards down and discover they are more alike than they knew. Time is short because the past is catching up to them. As much as they both want a future it seems impossible. It’s best to just exist in the middle, living in a fairytale because who wants to face an unknown future that can shatter like glass.

CATCHING IRISH, The Summerhaven Trio, #4

Finian Kelley and Tate Jennings met at a wedding…
…but that doesn’t mean they had romance in mind.

Since meeting Finian Kelley at a wedding last fall, where they agreed to be physical with no strings attached, Tate Jennings can’t get him out of her head. So when an invitation arrives at her Florida condo, inviting Tate to spend St. Patrick’s Weekend back at Summerhaven where Finian works, she can’t resist heading up to New Hampshire for the festivities.

Having just gotten out of an awesomely bad relationship, Finian Kelley has sworn off romance, which is why it’s good that hottie Tate Jennings lives far away in the Florida Keys. They may have fooled around at Rory’s wedding, but at least they have no future together, right?

Review – Catching Irish

Catching Irish; A Summerhaven Trio #4 (Series)
by Katy Regnery (Author)

This review is from: August 16, 2018 By Kay Daniels (Kindle Edition-Goodreads)
Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Heat Level:🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

A perfect, and very hot, addition to the the Summerhaven series!

All good things must come to an end, sadly, but as I say goodbye to the Summerhaven characters, Catching Irish was filled with the perfect amount of heartfelt feels, packed with great steam and sizzle, and the right amount of “where are they now” and “what are they up to” with previous characters. On top of all that, the hero is a singing Irishman with stamina. Oh, my heart!

Tate Jennings and Finian Kelley were not relationship material. Tate didn’t believe in love and Fin hated clingy girls who screamed relationships. So it should have been easy. A hookup, with no-strings attached sex, right?

Well….you know about that whole thing of waving a red flag in front of a bulls face?

Tate and Fin were both untouchable and yet…so desirable.

When neither can seem to forget their arrangement it only seems to make their connection stronger. But, how can two broken people make a relationship work when they live on separate continents and both are a little “bull-headed”?

If you haven’t read the series yet, pick it up and start with Fighting Irish  you won’t be disappointed.

Review – A Date for Hannah

A Date for Hannah; Love is for Everyone #1 (Series)
by Callie Henry (Author)

This review is from: August 3, 2018 By Kay Daniels (ePub Edition-Goodreads)
Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Heat Level:🔥

A Date for Hannah is so relevant and so good, where was Katy Regnery when I was a teenager?

All the self doubts that plague young girls not only dealing with body size, but hair color, skin type, crooked teeth, late puberty, early puberty, skin breakouts, what to wear, who to hang out with, what activities to participate in, what to eat…gah!! It’s amazing any of us make it out of our teenage years without a full time therapist attached to our sides.

This is exactly why books like, A Date for Hannah, are so important for people to read. No one is perfect and both Hannah and Liam are beautifully damaged characters who are in need of the affection they can give to one another. This is the perfect example that in this world there is someone for everyone and you shouldn’t let your past hold you back from a future of something wonderful.

Hannah deals with feelings of self-doubt mostly revolving around her size. The cruelness of boys who used to tease her in youth, now look at her with lust that she’s matured, but also tell her that no one will ever love her because she’s fat. When she meets Liam, who has his own past he’d rather leave there, she doesn’t believe him that he could like her for her, but as the night wears on and Liam breaks down her defences she begins to believe him. However, when she learns that Liam may have been sent to be her date under false pretenses, the hurtful, shameful feelings of Hannah’s past resurface and she’s not sure what was real and what was an act.

A Date for Hannah is short in the terms of adult reading, but when I remember this falls under young adult, the length is perfect. Whether you are an adult or young adult reading this story I highly recommend it.

My mind skitters to her face—her beautiful fucking face—and the way she stared at me with those wide eyes and her lips lightly parted. Those lips. She has Angelina Jolie lips. Scarlett Johanssen lips. Liv-fucking-Tyler from the “Crazy” video lips. Except this chick doesn’t look like Liv. She’s got blonde hair and a perfect pout like Alicia Silverstone. I remember the beginning of that video when our girl, Alicia, climbs out a bathroom window in her Catholic school uniform, her skirt riding up to show her black lace panties…and ahhh, yes, I feel my cock twitch just picturing it.
Fuck my life.
Shit. Shit. Shit.
Because yeah, I was yelling at Jock, but she was standing behind him, and I didn’t miss the tight lines of her teenaged body under a pair of new jeans and a long-sleeved T-shirt. Her rounded tits strained just a little against the fabric of her top. Not enough to be dirty. Just enough to hate her. Because no guy alive—least of all me—has a right to want someone like her. Or sure, we can want her, but we’ll never have her. Not in a million years.
She looked to be about Noelle’s age—somewhere between eighteen and twenty, and ridiculously young to suddenly arrive alone in the middle of nowhere, put up in an old farmhouse by a couple of aging queens.
How in the fuck is this her best option?
Who is she?
And what exactly is her deal?
I grimace because the headlines of her story—the easy parts—start materializing as I think about what I know about her. I didn’t do all that training for nothing. Plus, I have good instincts. I could practically smell it on her—the fear, the desperation, the way she wouldn’t meet me eyes except to insist that she was an adult.
God, what a joke. If she’s an adult, I’m a French poodle.
Then something occurs to me: it was Jock’s boyfriend, Gus, who gave away the most important part of her story away.
She has nowhere else to go.
And then something else occurs to me, and I wonder, Is she in hiding?
This girl—what’s her name? Amber? Audrey?—is in trouble. Big trouble. The kind of trouble that gets other people in hot water when they were just trying to live their lives and mind their own business. And she’s been dumped on my doorstep. Literally.

Katy’s books are available in English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Turkish.

Katy lives in the relative wilds of northern Fairfield County, Connecticut, where her writing room looks out at the woods, and her husband, two young children, two dogs, and one Blue Tonkinese kitten create just enough cheerful chaos to remind her that the very best love stories begin at home.

“Hey, you know what? You didn’t let me finish my pitch before, when I asked you to go on a date with me.”
She sighed, her eyes losing a little brightness and her smile dimming as she turned away to look at the reception guests on the dance floor. He tilted his head to see her better, and though he didn’t know her well enough to read her expression with accuracy, he saw wariness as her eyebrows knitted together. But when she sucked her lower lip into her mouth, he perceived a little bit of longing too, which made him press his advantage.
“Didn’t you wonder how I knew all that Shakespeare stuff?” he asked.
“Yes, actually,” she said, looking surprised by his question. “Come to think of it, I did wonder, but then you distracted me.”
He grinned. “Good distraction, right?”
She rolled her eyes, but her lips tilted up a little, which made him happy. “You were saying?”
“The OSF is twenty minutes from my house. I worked there taking tickets over spring break last year. So, if you’d like to go with me sometime—as a date—I might even be able to take you backstage. I’m sure Julia would give us a tour of the Allen Elizabethan Theatre.”
“Julia?” said Hannah, raising an eyebrow.
He saw it in her eyes, the way she was mentally backing away from him at the mere mention of another woman. Is that how she saw all men?
As players? As someone who’d hurt her and cheat on her if she let her guard down? He couldn’t help the way his feelings for her surged as he watched her—how much he wanted to be the person to prove to her that she could give her heart to someone who would keep it safe.
Julia is my Mom’s friend who works in group sales, is married, and has two kids.” He pulled Hannah’s hand behind his back, holding it hostage and drawing her closer until her chest pressed against his.
“And to be clear? I wouldn’t ask you out if I was seeing someone else. I don’t do that. I’m not with anyone right now, Hannah … except you.”
She flinched, and her face went utterly blank, except for her eyes, which looked worried and uncomfortable.
“You’re not with me,” she said softly, loosening her hand from his grasp and stepping away from him.
“I didn’t mean—”
“I have to use the ladies’ room. I’ll find you in a little bit, okay?
She turned and started walking away, while he babbled incoherently at her back:
“Wait. Hannah! No. I didn’t…I just—I just meant…Crap!”
He stopped talking when she was out of sight.
Dang it, Liam! Why do you have to be so freaking intense?
Probably because it bothered him that she kept trying to friend-zone him when he didn’t feel friendly toward her and pretty much hadn’t from the moment he’d laid eyes on her.
There were some girls he met—especially the shallow, self-absorbed ones—who turned him off the moment he met them. Most of the popular girls at his high school thought he was trouble, and even after he’d straightened himself out, they didn’t give him a chance. Not really. They’d fool around with him at a party—there was never a shortage of popular girls who wanted to make out with a bad boy—but on Monday morning, they’d act like they were too drunk to remember kissing him. And it sort of sucked, because Liam Callahan was one of those guys who quietly longed for a girlfriend, even though his reputation had pegged him inaccurately as a player.
He wanted to date someone. He wanted to leave a party with her on Saturday night, and hold her hand when he walked into school on Monday morning. He wanted to be the first person she texted when she was happy or upset about something. He wanted to invite her over for dinner with his mom. He wanted to introduce her to his friends:
You guys, this is my girlfriend.
He’d imagined saying those words about a thousand times, but he’d never had the chance to say them, and it bothered him. A lot.
But tonight? Meeting Hannah? Somehow it felt like maybe what he wanted was actually, finally, possible.
When Hannah looked up at him with those huge, vulnerable, dark brown eyes, he felt hopeful.
“Damn it,” he growled softly, frustrated that he’d pushed her too hard.
Maybe he was being pushy, but he liked her, and for all he knew, she was driving back up to Brookings in the morning. He wanted her to say yes to a date—his heart needed to know that he’d see her again.
