A Lie For A Lie; All In #1 (Series)
by Helena Hunting (Author)

This review is from: September 22, 2019 By Kay Daniels
Heat Level:🔥🔥🔥🔥

From the highly loved Pucked series comes a new generation of hockey players to fall in love with. A Lie For A Lie is everything wonderful that Helena Hunting creates with her writing!!

We meet Rook Bowman, the captain now of the Chicago hockey team, for those of you familiar with the Pucked series, yes we have moved ahead a few years, but I assure this is a complete standalone. So while Alex has retired and most of the beloved players have families that you will meet, catch up with, and laugh right along with, you do not have to have read any of the prior books in order to enjoy this story.

We really begin the story of Rook, or RJ as we get to know him throughout the story, and Lainey in Alaska. Lainey is headed there to finish her third master’s degree, she’s a total brainiac and not into sports whatsoever. RJ is headed there on his yearly fishing trip away from the media, paparazzi, puck bunnies, and most of civilization. He finds Lainey freshing that she doesn’t know a thing about him so he leaves out the teeny tiny fact that he works for the NHL. It’s not really a lie, but more of an omission, and blatant steer of conversation when she asks what he does for work, but aside from that….he can’t help but be enamoured by her and their chemistry is off the charts. When he has to suddenly leave, he hates the fact he never hears from her again. Could he have misread the signs? When destiny places her in his path once more he knows he can’t lose her again, but he’s floored to discover she may have been keeping an omission of her own.

Lainey is away from pretty much everyone she knows for the first time in her life and the gorgeous man who has graciously helped her more times than really should be necessary, well she can’t seem to want to stay away when he offers to let her stay in his luxurious cabin vs. her rodent infested one. For six weeks they spend pretty much every moment together, until it comes to a heartbreaking end. With no way to contact one another once they leave their bubble of bliss they completely lose touch. Thankfully fate has another idea in mind. When Lainey takes a job in Chicago she runs into RJ again, she just didn’t realize he was a hockey player named Rook.

Can they both forgive and forget their past mistakes? Only time, healing, and a lot of trust will bring them back to where they were in Alaska, but the big question is, do they both want the same thing now that so much time has passed.

This new series is going to rock your world and give you all the feels…I’m serious….ALL THE FEELS!!! The direction that Helena is taking everything is absolutely amazing. Lainey and RJ are incredible together and rank pretty high up in standings to my favorite hockey couple. I can hardly wait for more stories to arrive in this new series!! The ride is going to be fantastic!!

Review – Kiss Me Tonight by Emma Hart

Kiss Me Tonight; Kiss Me #2 (Series)
by Emma Hart (Author)

This review is from: September 22, 2019 By Kay Daniels
Heat Level:🔥🔥🔥

Most women aren’t quite as accepting to getting an eggplant pic from an anonymous person, but Reagan let Noah (once she learned his name) know that he sent a picture of his junk to the wrong person and also, btw it’s not so bad looking for, you know, a peen pic.

And so began their texting friendship. A strange back and forth that neither one ever thought would amount to more than quirky moments between their working day or late night/early morning hellos or good nights. That is until Reagan has an apartment fire and Noah just so happens to be the fireman who rescues her.  Well, their awkward relationship just moved to a whole new level.

Kiss Me Tonight is an adorable look at how social media introduces us to people we might never get a chance to meet, even if it is accidently. It forces us out of our mundane and then when life or karma or destiny, whatever you would like to call it, steps in and pushes us to take that next step well… may or may not be ready.

Staying behind your phone or computer is the safe place to be….real life is just plain scary, ask Reagan, but she did survive a fire and Noah is her real life hero, so not everything is bad. When the man of your dreams turns out to be real perhaps the real world isn’t so scary after all.

Kiss Me Tonight is full of adorable moments with Reagan and her friends, her crazy family, a cute chihuahua, and lots of steamy build up between Noah and Reagan.

2019 Goals – Monthly Author Feature – Lani Lynn Vale

2019 Goals. Happy September!! Fall and everything pumpkin flavored is fast upon us. I hope you have been enjoying summer because it is coming to a close for 2019. As much as I love pumpkins and pumpkin flavored things, I’m not exactly a fan of the cooler temperatures that I know are right around the corner.

This will mean an end to long summer nights basking in the warm summer sun while squeezing in my reading until the sunlight fades. Soon all my reading will take place inside most likely under a warm blanket. Sigh…

There were a lot of new summer releases in 2019. So many in fact I wasn’t able to squeeze them all in and basically why I’m so late with posting last months goal. I have so many books currently sitting on my TBR pile, since finding and reading new authors means I have to buy their past books. I just need more hours in the day so I can tackle that pile.

As always, if you’ve missed the past few months, where I not only launched into my journey of 2019 goals, but also highlighted other amazing authors, please check them out by clicking on the links below.

2019 Goals – Monthly Author Feature – L.J. Shen

2019 Goals – Monthly Author Feature – Kandi Steiner

2019 Goals – Monthly Author Feature – Charity Ferrell

2019 Goals – Monthly Author Feature – Miranda Elaine

2019 Goals – Monthly Author Feature – Kristin Harte

2019 Goals – Monthly Author Feature – Lila Monroe

Now—Welcome to August!!

Lani Lynn Vale was another author, like many of the others listed above, that checked off numerous boxes on what I love when reading; suspense, wittiness, great chemistry, emotional empathy, basically the gamet of feels when I’m reading a story. I want to be immersed and along for the ride.  In I’d Rather Not, we meet a dying woman who needs an organ transplant and a soldier who has been given a second chance at life willing to give up his kidney to save her. This story had it all and touched me on every level.

But then a beautiful woman’s face is splashed across social media, and Pace finds a spark in his soul for the first time since a bomb went off beside him.
He’s already missing two legs. What’s one more kidney?

Review – Crazy Rich Cajuns by Erin Nicholas

Crazy Rich Cajuns; Boys of the Bayou #4 (Series)
by Erin Nicholas (Author)

This review is from: September 21, 2019 By Kay Daniels
Heat Level:🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Kennedy and Bennett had fantastic chemistry that burned right off the pages. I thoroughly enjoyed watching them go head to head in this enemies to lovers romance.

Bennett Baxter is in love with everything Bayou. That includes the swampy water, the alligators, the sticky hot weather, and especially Kennedy Landry. From the moment he laid eyes on the sassy, dressed all in black, says exactly what’s on her mind woman, he is hooked. He is so sure she is the one for him, even though most of their conversations are over the phone and mostly antagonistic in nature, something in his gut says she is “the one”. He invites, or more like insists, she comes along for a weekend at his parents home in Savannah, GA so #1; they could meet her, and #2; so he could get some one on one time with her, and #3; so his parents could see that his time spent in Louisiana isn’t just play time, he means business. What he doesn’t account for is for his sassy, brazen woman to stir up feelings he wasn’t prepared to feel.

Kennedy Landry is a self assured, confident, sassy woman surrounded by more manly men than she can shake a stick at. She has always assumed her preference in male companionship is a man who could change a tire, fix an engine, and still come home to please her at night. But the moment Bennett Baxter walked into her life he threw those expectations right out the window and her life into a tailspin. She now doesn’t know left from right and she isn’t entirely sure how to feel about it. With Bennett’s shiny shoes, nerdy glasses, and power ties she can’t help her attraction to the man who also gets her back hairs up. She shouldn’t want to like him as much as she does, so she decides to go with him to Georgia to finally get the man out of her system. A weekend away in his world should do the trick, she just didn’t account for enjoying it as much as she does.

Bennett and Kennedy seem like polar opposites, but they are also very similar. It isn’t until they are tucked away in another state away from the hustle and familiar that they really find each other and learn how they fit together.

Crazy Rich Cajuns is a warm, enlightening, and full of heat addition to the Boys of Bayou series. I love the close family and togetherness that these stories bring, along with having a passion for what you believe in. It really shines through in this book and Kennedy is the perfect person to bring that passion for the bayou spirit forth.

If you haven’t started the series yet what are you waiting for, you will love them all!!

Review – Mine Until Moonrise by Jennifer Bernard

Mine Until Moonrise; Lost Harbor Alaska #1 (Series)
by Jennifer Bernard (Author)

This review is from: September 20, 2019 By Kay Daniels
Heat Level:🔥🔥🔥🔥

Mine Until Moonlight is a delightful book! It contains colorful characters, witty writing, the beautiful backdrop of Alaska, and sizzling chemistry between two harbor neighbors (it’s a thing trust me).

Jennifer Bernard has created a wonderful new series where you can either get lost or found (depending on your situation) in Lost Harbor, Alaska. For our main characters, Megan and Lucas, they happened to need just a bit of both.

Megan is running from a past tragedy and hoping to lose herself in the peaceful town of Lost Harbor. Lucas grew up in Alaska, moved away from the small town, but upon his fathers death is back now trying to find answers to his mysterious death.

While these two came from different backgrounds, they also have similar values. Neither would ever admit it to the other, because it just might mean they actually liked one another, and they have this unspoken feud between them. Well…not so much unspoken, because you can’t feud without a few choice words, but more like an undocumented feud. When does a feud actually begin? How do you set the terms? Isn’t that what makes a feud, the verbal sparring, the light jabs, the so called pranks? These two are good at their feuding and it makes for a really fun book.

Megan and Lucas are harbor neighbors, that’s what she called them, much to Lucas’ argument that there is no such term. They park their boats next to one another at the docks and while he has (or more like his father had) a thriving fishing business, Megan’s nature business is less than thriving. Lucas came home after his father passed to settle affairs, which also meant running his fishing boat, not something he was exactly happy about, which he sometimes took out on his harbor neighbor (I love using this term). He also is looking into his father’s death, which is a lot of fun as he goes around town talking to people regarding his father.

Megan doesn’t have time to worry about her sexy, everyone-loves-him-in-town, harbor neighbor. She has a business to run and she needs to drum up business. On top of that, she has a gifted daughter and her meddling ex who doesn’t believe that living in a small town in Alaska is the best thing for her. If she can’t make enough to support them she might actually have to sell her boat and move proving her ex was right. When she finds out a producer is in town filming a nature show and could be interested in Lucas’ boat, she jumps at the opportunity to show them what she’s got. She will not let sexy Lucas take this opportunity from her.

They both have things to worry about while in Alaska and a feud between harbor neighbors is one thing neither really have time for, but they both can’t seem to avoid the pitfalls that feuding brings. Especially when there is a fine line between feuding and flirting. They are drawn to each other like a moth to a flame. Their story is fun and once you pick it up it’s very hard to put down.

This is a great first story to a new series and I’m looking forward to more in this small town of Lost Harbor.

New Release – Neat by Kandi Steiner

Neat - RB banner.jpg

Rival families. Deep secrets. Exact opposites who can’t help but cross all the lines. Neat will leave you thirsty for more Becker Brothers!” — bestselling author Staci Hart

Neat, an all-new standalone contemporary romance by Kandi Steiner is LIVE!

Neat Cover FINAL.png

My life is over.

I swore I would never work at the whiskey distillery with my last name on it, that I would never be a part of my father’s legacy. But when I graduated with my art degree and realized there were no jobs, the devil appeared, and I sold my soul, agreeing to work in the family business if he’d give me the art studio I’d always dreamed of.

It can’t be that bad, I thought.

Until I realized my new boss was Logan Becker.

The Becker brothers have a reputation for being trouble, and since I love trouble, it’s no surprise to me that I’m infatuated by that forbidden fruit the first day I walk into the distillery. That lean, whiskey-eyed, too-hot-for-his-own-good man hates me — and I can’t blame him. His family has been at war with mine for decades, and for good reason.

The Beckers and the Scooters are the Montagues and Capulets of Stratford, Tennessee.

But if he’s Romeo, and I’m Juliet? Well… we all know how that story ends — and for that reason, I tell myself to steer clear.

Because if my father finds out I’m falling for Logan Becker, my life actually will be over.

And Logan’s will be, too.

Neat is a stand-alone book in the Becker Brothers Series.

“So… I guess we should just be…” Logan swallowed. “Friends?”

The way he asked it, the way his eyebrows bent together, his lips flattening — I knew it was a hollow offer.

I nodded. “Sure. Of course.” A smile that felt like a wave of nausea found my lips. “Friends.”

Logan watched me, and I watched him, both of us waiting for something more. It seemed like there were a million unborn words between us, floating in the air, waiting for us to reach out and grab them and bring them to life. When a long moment of silence had passed, Logan bit the inside of his cheek, picking up his highlighter he’d abandoned on the desk when I’d walked in like he was ready to get back to work.

“But,” I said, and his eyes snapped to mine, the highlighter frozen over the page. “I mean… there’s another option, isn’t there?”

Logan dropped the highlighter, leaning back again. “There is?”

“I’m just saying,” I said, voice shakier than I wanted it to be in that moment. I took a sip of my coffee, shrugging. “What if we kept things low key… casual… just between us?” My eyes found his again. “It is what it is, and it’s not what it’s not. Right? No need for anyone to know.”

“Low key,” Logan repeated, like he was tasting the words, checking them for poison with his tongue. “So, friends… with benefits.”

I snorted. “If you want to be twenty-one about it, sure.”

Logan nodded, over and over, just a slight movement of his chin up and down as he considered it. I watched him as he stood, and I expected him to start pacing the office, but instead, he crossed it, closing his door and turning to face me.

His eyes swept over me, sparking a fire low in my stomach.

He wet his lips.

He took a step.

And then I was out of my chair, meeting him in the middle, the two of us crashing together like magnets.

His hands weaved into my hair when he captured my mouth with his own, both of us sighing on an inhale, moaning on the exhale, leaning into each other like we could somehow melt together completely. All the electricity I’d felt that night came back like a tidal wave, and I surrendered to the waves, letting them drown me. I wanted him to fill my lungs, to conquer every breath, to imprison me.

It was a kiss that told me we were both lying. We both wanted more.

But if it was a choice between this, or nothing at all?

There wasn’t a decision to make — not where I was concerned. It had already been made for us, without either of us having a say, without either of us having an ounce of control to throw this story in another direction.

We were inevitable, me and him.

And maybe we knew it from the start.

Logan backed me up to the desk, and when my ass hit it, I hiked both legs up, wrapping them around his waist and squeezing. He hissed, sucking my bottom lip between his teeth and releasing it with a pop, his hips rolling against mine. I broke the kiss to let out a gasp, and his mouth was on my neck in an instant, sucking and biting, my eyes rolling back at the contact.

He paused with his lips by my ear, breathing heavy. “I think this could work for me,” he whispered, running his tongue over my ear lobe. “This… friends agreement.” His hands squeezed where they held my hips, and the familiar pressure sent flashes of Saturday night barreling through my memory. I gasped, mouth still hanging open when he kissed my neck over to the opposite ear to whisper again. “What do you think?”

Against the voice inside me warning me not to, I ran my fingers through his hair, gripping those dark strands and pulling his lips back to mine.

That kiss was an answer.

That kiss was a lie.

And distantly, I realized that kiss might be the biggest mistake of my life.
