I’ve read forbidden and I’ve read taboo books before, but The Wild dove into the deep end of both with a splash of controversy mixed in and a whole lot of no holds barred in any of those categories. It was a thrill ride I didn’t know I needed until I couldn’t stop reading it and while this book may not be for everyone, I love pushing my reading boundaries, after all it’s fiction and I love the escape it provides.
I’m honestly so glad I had no knowledge about what this book was about before jumping into it. The shock and curiosity of what I was reading was completely my own, with zero bias and I loved experiencing every taboo moment with virgin eyes. It gave me that little extra thrill knowing all the pearl clutchers would be saying a prayer that my wicked soul was reading such a twisted book.
I’ve have seen posts, or referrals in Webster’s newsletter where she’s talked about her banned books, but I’ve never specifically placed exactly which ones she was referring to. I know she loves to push boundaries, its one of the reasons I enjoy reading her books, aside from her excellent writing, but I can see this particular book making that list. Webster surely crafted the plot of The Wild in such a way that I will say it’s by far the most taboo book I’ve ever read and that is saying a lot with everything I do read. However, I loved it and will proudly claim the title of having read a banned book.
Are there questions as to how they truly survived the wilderness…sure, but do I necessarily care…it’s fiction, so ultimately no! I read books all the time that leave me with more questions than answers, but it’s fiction, ultimately I’m there for the love story not how to solve the worlds problems. I loved the tabooness of the underlying conflict. The big controversy that makes this such a forbidden book. That’s the story I wanted to read and I loved it.
Synopsis:

The Wild is an extremely taboo story. Most will find that the themes in this book will make you incredibly uncomfortable. This book is only for the brave, the open-minded, and the ones who crave love in even the most dismal of situations. Extreme sexual themes and violence in certain scenes, which could trigger emotional distress, are found in this story. If you are sensitive to heavy taboo themes, then this story is not for you.

The Free continues in the same environment as The Wild, while it is still is a taboo story, the entire book isn’t quite as controversial as the first one, or is it?
Atticus Knox, appeared in the first book, worried about the situation with Reed and Devon, so you know he’s a man who cares, but he also kept to himself when they both told him butt out. He’s loyal, he cares and he’s a man who will have your back, which is why when Eve, a girl who lives alone in the wild, needs help, Atticus is there to lend a hand. However, his feelings for her are something he can’t turn off even when he does everything to fight them.
Eve is a powerhouse in a tiny little body. The fact that she grew up in the wild, with no formal education doesn’t even cross Atticus’ mind when it comes to his attraction to her, it’s her resilience and fortitude that makes her more attractive. It’s the huge age gap and the fact that she’s so young that he can’t wrap his head around. He fights and fights, which is totally hot, until he breaks and dammmmnnnnn it’s fire!!
The Free is a bit lighter than the first book, but still delves into taboo subjects. I loved exploring the modernized world through Eve’s eyes, and even with all the controversy I’m sure this book stirred up, I loved how this book ended.
