Intro: My heroine, Violet, speaks French. Here is where she teaches Walker how to say To kiss in French…

“To kiss is embrasser.”

“Em-brah-say,” he parroted.

Violet usually hated the way French sounded when a non-native speaker tried it. Walker didn’t pronounce the words perfectly, but he didn’t butcher them, either. And somehow he made each one sexier in his own rugged way.

“How would you—embrasser me?” he added.

She laughed. “First I’d give you more warning than I did this morning. I’d say, Je veux t’embrasser, which means I want to kiss you.” And did she ever. Nothing was more of a tease than being close enough to kiss him, wanting to kiss him, and not kissing him. How did he exercise such restraint?

Or maybe he didn’t want her as much as she wanted him.

“I don’t need taking care of, you know,” Patricia said when they stepped outside. Her voice came out low, a whisper, which nonetheless projected in the still warmth of the night.

 

 
After several seconds without a response from him, she turned sideways. He stared ahead, his profile stoic. Finally, she heard his deep intake of breath.
 
He looked at her, and thunder might as well have struck after the flash of…annoyance? Impatience? Incredulity?
 
“Are you always on the defensive?”
 
Aggravation. Despite the balmy, breezeless air, Patricia shivered. Perhaps she should have been scared, but she wasn’t. Somehow, Ty didn’t strike her as the kind of man whose patience wore thin as easily as wind blew away flakes of cotton. Yet, she also realized she’d pushed a button or two between yesterday and today.
 
She began to say something, but her response staggered as she realized she didn’t know how to answer his question. She sighed. “It’s always been just me and my mum. I guess I’m simply used to having to stick up for myself.”
 
His look softened. “Trish, I know you’re a strong woman. Hell, it’s one of the things I admire about you. But did it occur to you I only wanted some alone time with you?”
 
She couldn’t help it. She giggled. “You could have just said so.”
 
“In that case, how about this?”
 
He faced her fully, subjecting her to a powerful blast of his magnetism. Electricity jolted through her, and she realized he’d touched her; warmth infused her body where his hands bracketed her waist.
 
The next instant, she was plastered against him, her soft abdomen privy to the state of his desire. His heated breath wafted over her face, a mix of him and the whiskey he’d had at dinner. An avalanche of sensations, fierce and unrelenting hit her in the gut.
 
Then the worst thing happened. The most embarrassing moment of her life.
 
She threw up.
 
On him.
 
For several seconds, she could only stare in horror at her dinner, now a less than palatable concoction splattered on Ty’s clothes and shoes.
 
He still held her as she doubled over, one hand on her shoulder, the other rubbing her back.
 
“Trish, what’s going on?” He pushed back a few strands of her braids hanging loose from the confines of her up do.
 
“I am so sorry,” she said.
 
“We need to get you to a hospital.”
 
Crap! Her stomach lurched again, and she figured out what had triggered the emesis. Thankfully, what came out the second time was minimal. She took in a deep breath, exhaling through her mouth. It seemed to help.
 
Ty held up the bottle of water he’d taken with him from dinner. “Here—”
 
“Please stop talking,” she gasped, turning away from him. “I need a minute.”
 
“This could be food poisoning. You need a doctor.”
 
“I don’t, and it’s not food poisoning. It’s the alcohol.”
 
“You didn’t drink.”
 
“No, but you did.”
 
His features assumed a frown, his confusion absolute. “You’re sick because I drank?”
 
“I’m not sick. I’m—”
 
She stopped abruptly, tossing different possible explanations in her head, all of them partial truths. No matter what anyone said, keeping quiet and outright lying were not the same. She wasn’t prepared to do the latter, but she’d spoilt her chances of doing the former.
 
“I’m…uh.”
 
His eyes narrowed. “You’re what?”
 
“I’m…”
 
Shiiit.
 
She couldn’t believe she was going to tell him. “I’m pregnant, Ty.”

This is a collection of steamy, contemporary stories that revolve around Vegas and what happens during a blackout in the forbidden city.

Given this premise, there are so many options on what would happen when all the lights go out in the the city where “what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas”. This is a city where people already lose inhibition, so the additional cover of darkness adds another layer to whatever someone is feeling. It heightens awareness of sensuality, mystery, or fear to a whole new level. This book is filled with tales of the same night and everyone experiences something in the city of sin.

Blackout is packed with excellent authors and lots of steamy romance, thrilling experiences, and titillating storytelling. This anthology holds something for everyone and certainly for the price you can’t go wrong in picking it up and discovering authors you might not have read before. Here are just a few of my personal favorites:

“Blind Faith”- Lauren Runow

When a blackout happens while staying in a hotel room, you are locked out of your room, because oops, the keys all work on electricity, and to top off the madness…you are standing in the hallway in your bathrobe. Yeah, life would seem to be kicking you in the face right about then. As helplessness, panic, desperation and lots of other emotions begin to kick in, because hey, you’re basically naked, stuck in the hallway, and it’s dark. Life doesn’t exactly hate you when the hot guy across the hall comes to your rescue.

Mr. 7007 may offer up his sweats and his company so you don’t feel quite so alone, but as the night goes on Mr. 7007 might actually be Mr. Trouble. Was it coincidence that he happened to be in Vegas, prepared, calm, and seemed to know just a little too much? Gemma has a lot of questions, but will they ever be answered?

Blind Faith was a heartwarming story that was also thrilling. I enjoyed the mystery mixed in with the sweetness of the story.

“Night Games” T.K. Leigh

Is it fate when you run into the same man multiple times in different locations? Could fate possibly intervening on your behalf because you are too stubborn to fall in love?

Whether fate has a hand in your love life or not, Chloe doesn’t believe in happily ever after, but when she runs into Lincoln multiple times at different locations, while staying in Vegas for a bachelorette party, she begins to wonder the meaning behind it. When the lights go out in Vegas and they spend a night getting to know one another, playing board games since all means of technology or electricity is down, she experiences a level of intimacy she hasn’t felt in years.

Lincoln and Chloe experience an extended foreplay long into the night, that when they do decide to go to bed their chemistry is explosive. Perhaps fate knows what she’s doing after all.

This short story reminded me how much I enjoyed TK’s writing. Unfortunately, I haven’t read anything of hers for a of couple years, but her writing is flirty and page turning. I am looking forward to catching up on the Chelsea and Asher (the other couple you get a taste of in this story-I need to know what happens!)

This anthology is filled with several other stories and I hope you pick up the anthology for yourself so you can read each and every one to discover just how thrilling a blackout in Vegas would be. Image may contain: text

I laughed at his transparency and typed: Are you requesting a bakery delivery?
Jack: Nope just want to see you.
I shook my head at that. Pretty sure you only want my baked goods.
