Filled with brave men and stories about the strong women who wait for them.

It’s not easy to give your heart to a military man, especially when he has already pledged himself to serve his country first. A woman will always come second and not every woman is strong enough to wait while their man is serving their country.

This anthology is filled with stories about second chances, first loves, reunions and love revolving around the men and women who serve this great country of ours. They are all short stories that involve military heros and it is a great way to revisit some old worlds while meeting new friends, or perhaps meet a new author that you just haven’t had the chance or reading before or lots of different combinations.

I was lucky enough to have a little bit of both and enjoyed everything tucked within here. It had me scrolling through several author pages looking to see if there were more books coming, what back lists I would need to add to my ever growing TBR, and what I’ve possibly missed along the way. I hope you enjoy this anthology as much as I did.

Another suspenseful addition to the CSS series. Right from the first page The Warrior hooked and reeled me in and didn’t let go until the very last page.

Derrick “Chaos” Biggs enjoys acting as a lone wolf, ironic because his code name is Chaos and not Wolf like one of his team members who also works in CSS. Constantly getting hounded for not being a team player it is that very nature that leads him to Lidiya “Lee” Stephenson a fellow hacker. Lee has helped Chaos in past missions when he hasn’t been able to crack or break into computers, but they have never met face to face. That is until she contacts him needing his help.

Lidiya reaches out to the only person she feels she can trust, which is a very small circle of people, namely one. A man who goes by the name of Chaos. When her life is in jeopardy she turns to the only person who has been a link to the outside world in the past two years. Living like a recluse hasn’t afforded Lidiya many opportunities to make friends. She hopes that reaching out isn’t signing her death certificate.

Derrick tries to help Lee the best he can, but she is a woman full of secrets. Lidiya doesn’t want to bring Derrick too far into her mess. Can they help each other without hurting the other? Is it also possible to find your soulmate, like TR predicts, through an online connection?

A new twist on an eloped marriage of convenience. Playing His Part really kept me on the edge of my seat, not unlike Lisa’s military books. This is the first book I’ve read in her hockey series and it can be read as a complete standalone even though it is #7 in the series. She does bring the team into the book at various points (this is a hockey team after all), and I’m sure those who have read the series will love the updates, but I didn’t feel like I was missing out by not having read the other books if you haven’t either.

The book begins during the marriage of convenience.  Natalie Kenney is in a panic of how she got to this point, basically on a whim, she ran into Ben Leach, a childhood acquaintance, while they are both in Vegas. She tells Ben the trouble she is in and he casually throws out that they should get married. Thus, how she now is standing in a chapel in Vegas about to be married.

Once the deed is done, what plagues her most, that is after Ben abandons her on their honeymoon night, is why? Honestly, as a reader it is the one question we are left with too, why?

Why would Ben ask Natalie to marry him? We understand the basic mess that Natalie has found herself in while she is in Vegas and why she would seek protection, but Ben is an enigma.

He is both hero and indifference rolled all into one. He marries Natalie and then walks away, leaving her alone, without information, and yet seems so miserable in his decisions. He also shelters his wife, looks out for her in public, and wants to take care of her basic needs. He is like a wounded animal who doesn’t know how to trust and love, but why?

I love Lisa’s writing and she never fails to draw me in. Getting down to the mystery, the suspense, and ultimately the romance is what draws me back. This was my first hockey romance and it won’t be my last.

I love Lisa’s writing! She draws me in to where I was sitting right on the remote island with everyone else; I was walking through the inky-pitch blackness of a cave (basically scared out of my mind because I hate the dark), but seriously she pulls you there (wherever there may be) and you are surrounded by every nuance and I LOVE it! This is what draws me back, time and again, not to mention the amazing characters, but her writing is the best!

Hannah Montgomery, is Ryder’s sister’s best friend, whom work on humanitarian projects that take them around the world. This is nothing new, but the call that Ryder receives from his sister, Allison, stating she is in a life and death situation and he better come quick leaves little room for negotiation in his mind. Ryder and Ninja board a plane and travel to a remote island to help because she’s his sister and that is what family does. What he is not prepared for is the the sight of Hannah given it’s been twelve years since he’s been around her and basically he tries very hard to keep his distance. When he left for the army he left behind her broken heart and hasn’t been back, but being stuck on a remote island isn’t going to make staying away very easy, especially if there is danger involved.

Hannah has had a thing for Ryder pretty much since she met him back in elementary school. Even when he broke her heart they day he left for the army she has never stopped wanting him. So when he shows up on the remote island to answer Allison’s call, Hannah decides to take a chance and spend the little time with the only man who has ever called to her. She knows it’s only for a brief time, but she’s willing to take that chance. It’s better than having nothing at all, she already knows what the last twelve years have been like so she decides to jump in with both feet. It’s now or never and now seems pretty good. She’s never been one to hesitate, so why start now.

With danger and suspicion all around them, it’s hard to get to know each other and whom they’ve become as an adult, but even with the brief time they do get both Ryder and Hannah respect and enjoy each other’s company immensely. However, when things go sideways, Ryder turns to what he knows best and Hannah is right by his side, helping Ryder every step of they way. They are a fierce duo when they work as a team, but can they make it out alive to see if they could have a future?

The main focus is on Boomer and Hannah, but with this being a remote island, there is a small hint to Ninja and Allison in this book, but both swear nothing happens. However there is a lot of chemistry between the two, so I’m hoping at some point there will be a story about them. I’m crossing my fingers and toes.

Another hit for Lisa B. Kamps! The strong women and men Lisa creates are a one click buy for me. I love the action, the suspense, and the hard men who fall for their strong women.

Daryl “Zeus” Anderson, a former army ranger, gets contacted from his former CO. A favor called in, one he assumes might be an easy job, Daryl has no idea it would involve helping his daughter. A woman he’s already met. A woman he hasn’t stopped thinking about for the past three months. A woman whom he had a one night stand with and had no idea was related to his former commanding officer. It was one night filled with passion and no last names. Tangled up in something Daryl doesn’t quite understand because his CO didn’t explain and Kelsey doesn’t trust him enough to give him details, Daryl jumps in because he promised to help her and he knows if the roles were reversed his CO would have done the same. Setting aside whatever feelings he has for her, because Kelsey got under his skin three months ago and never left, Daryl agrees to complete his mission and then finally let her go. Without trust he knows they will never be more no matter how much he would like it to be more.

Kelsey Davis has been on the run for over three years. She hasn’t been able to trust or rely on anyone in a very long time. The one night she spent with Daryl was foolish, but one she indulged in feeling free for the first time in almost three years. If there wasn’t so much at steak she would go all in, but there is so much at risk and there is more than just herself to consider.

Even more so with The Guardian, I got to know more about the other team members and now I’m extra curious to read the other team members stories. I seriously cannot wait to read more about this world. I love that each book is a standalone, there is no continuous villain, or overall arc that I need to keep up with, I can jump in at any time, not that I plan to, but I’m already looking forward to the next one, but if you are just reading about the Cover Six Security team for the first time you won’t have trouble jumping in.

The other thing I love about Lisa’s writing is the strong women she writes. They are emotionally and mentally tough. Although I’m sure some would argue that they would have to be to deal with the hard men they are getting entangled with, but more than that they are strong in their own ways. For instance, TR in Mac’s book was a journalist, which is a tough job, but when she was captured she put up a tough fight and wasn’t giving in. She was full of grit and spunk (yes, she had her own anxiety issues, but she was also full of badassery). Kelsey also was extremely tough. MAC was high intensity right from the start. From the very first page you are pulled into a gripping tale that is shrouded in conspiracy with the continual possibility of being eliminated until the very end of the book! Whew! It was a very intense read!

Tabitha “TR” Meyers finds herself right in the middle of a conspiracy while working on a local news column. Unbeknownst to her, she is now a target that needs to be eliminated, but Gordon “Mac” MacGregor won’t allow TR to die on his watch.

Mac let TR walk away from once before, he’s not about to lose her again. Between the two of them, and his team, he knows they can solve why TR has suddenly become a target before it’s too late.

What I love about this story is that TR was placed in very dangerous situations and she is just a regular woman, not trained for combat. Lisa Kamps kept that in mind when she wrote TR’s state of mind. The level of panic, her emotional state was beautifully written.

I also did not read the prior encounters of Mac and TR before reading this book, but I was not lost. Lisa Kamps wove their backstory throughout this book and I was able to learn their history as their present was developing, so I never felt I was missing out.

Mac and TR’s chemistry was off the charts, the plot was intense and I look forward to reading more of Lisa B. Kamps in the future.
