Charity Ferrell stirs up all the feels in this amazing new book! Right out of the gate with the new Twisted Fox series we get humor, tears, angsty feels and forbidden love. Ferrell never disappoints which is why she’s a one chick author for me.

Stirred introduces us to a new cast of characters, just about twenty miles down the road from Blue Beech, so if you’ve read Charity’s previous books you might recognize some of your favorite characters popping in, but know that Twisted Fox is a new world with lots of people to meet and fall in love with.

In Stirred we meet Jamie, Cohen, and Cohen’s son Noah, they are a package deal and I dare you not to fall in love with the adorableness that is wrapped up in the five year old little boy. Strangely enough, Noah also happens to be Jamie’s nephew and here is where we get into the forbiddenness of Cohen and Jamie’s romance.

Cohen dated Jamie’s sister, Heather, all the way through school, but right after birth, she wanted nothing to do with her son and gave up all rights to Noah. With his son now as his singular focus, Cohan cuts all ties to Heather and her family, which included Jamie. He doesn’t have time to worry about anything else, especially an ex who doesn’t want anything to do with the person who means the world to him.

Jamie hasn’t seen Cohen or Noah for five years, that is until they end up in her ER department. Shocked is an understatement when she first sees them, but wanting to reconnect with her nephew is paramount and the crush she used to have on Cohen hasn’t diminished in the least, but she’ll take knowing Noah above all else.

As much as Cohan wants to continue to keep Jamie out of their lives, he eventually concedes and Noah instantly takes to her. As much as he tries to stay away and give Jamie time with his son, he eventually is drawn to Jamie too, and Cohen can’t help his growing attraction, but they both realize crossing lines could be detrimental if things go bad. It wouldn’t be just their hearts on the line, but Noah’s too and breaking his heart may be a line they aren’t willing to cross.

This is such an amazing start to a new series that will really touch you and pull at all your heartstrings.

Evangeline blinked several times to clear the blurriness from her eyes. The full moon cast a luminous radiance over the ranch even beyond the corrals—and the silver streak resembling a horse that raced across the grassy plain, bucking every few paces and whinnying at the obsidian night. She glanced at the half empty bottle of bourbon she clutched and back to the thundering steed glowing in the night.
“Oh hell, no.” She’d been at the ranch for over three weeks and knew every horse in residence but had yet to see any running wild as spectacular as this one. The wild horses in the area were located at a sanctuary over an hour away in Hot Springs not in this part of the Black Hills.
“Damn, Jackson.” She and the owner of the local gas station, deli, laundry, and liquor store had been on a first-name basis since she perused the alcohol department as regularly as she could get to town. “What the hell did you sell me?” The bourbon didn’t look or smell any different than anything else she’d purchased, but Jackson had suggested the Black Hills Recipe would be unlike any other bourbon she’d tried. Was it filtered through peyote or something? No, peyote wasn’t native to South Dakota, but who really knew what went into locally distilled spirits?
“Ma’am.”
Evangeline’s heart stuttered at the masculine voice. “Keller, you startled me. What are doing out here in the dark?”
The cowboy whisked his hat from his head and raked his fingers through his dark blond hair. “I was just checkin’ on the horses before I turned in. Up kind of late, aren’t you?”
She swung her legs from the arm of the wooden rocker on the porch of her cabin. “I suppose. I don’t have to get up early like you do, though.”
“Still trying to find yourself out here?”
“Something like that.”
Keller cocked his head to the bottle tucked in her fingers. “Was that full when you started the evening?”
She swirled the amber liquor. “Maybe.”
“You be careful with any shit Jackson recommends.” He stuffed his hat on head and tipped the brim to her. “Ma’am. Enjoy what’s left of the evening while you can still remember.”
He stepped away toward the bunkhouse. “Keller?”
“Yes, Ma’am?”
“Well, for one, would you stop calling me ma’am?”
He snickered. “Sorry, habit.”
“Good manners.” She set the bottle on the porch and rested her elbows on her knees. “Did you see a silver horse running across the meadow?”
“Tonight?”
“Like a few minutes ago.”
“No, Ma…Miss Webber. I didn’t.”
“Evangeline. How about calling me Evangeline. I think I’ve been here long enough for that. Anyway, are you sure? It was bucking and whinnying and flying across the grass.”
“I was in a barn full of horses. I hear lots of whinnying. Didn’t see it, sorry.”
Slumping back in the rocker, she sighed. Maybe she was hallucinating. The clearness she was seeking hadn’t exactly presented itself since her arrival. The lure of the mountains and fresh air had brought her here. She needed a change, at least for a little while. The day to day survival wasn’t working. She needed to snap out of her funk. It’d been two years. She needed to move on. That’s what her friends and family said. She didn’t see any of them having to handle what she did. Live with what she did.
“Well, must be the bourbon. Goodnight, Keller. I think I should hit the sack, too.”

AUTHOR BIO

Anna Hague spends part of her days in the writing cave creating her own spin on love stories. The other part of her days, she is a free-lance sports reporter crafting stories about a variety of athletic events including high school, college, and professional level sports.

She’s had the fiction bug her whole life, but in 2015 decided, “It’s now or never.” In November of 2016, her contemporary novel Captured Hearts debuted.

Anna reads all sorts of love stories, and she writes the same way. She recently published an erotic romance series with Wild Rose Press and has published the Heart Series and opened up the Storm Canyon Series with the first book Thunderstruck.

Her motto: Creating different paths to love because different is the only way I know.

I reached my car, and the voice that hadn’t left my head for two years, the one I could pick out blindfolded, hit my ears. “Leaving so soon?”
It was far too close for comfort. I froze and quickly tried to make my escape, but the second I tugged on the handle, a strong hand slammed across the top of my car door, halting its movement.
“Move your hand,” I bit out behind clenched teeth.
My gaze locked on the fingers in front of me. They looked exactly the same as they had before. Calloused. Strong. Gentle. A brief flash of them cupping my breast, thumbing my nipple, rushed through my mind. I pushed the images away, needing to get out of here.
Hating him for making me look at him, I raised my eyes to meet hazel ones. It almost hurt to see Preston’s face again. His expression echoed the pain I forced down. He took a tiny step back. Not far enough away, because if I wanted, I could still reach out and touch him.
“Why’d you run?”
I closed my eyes, needing to break this connection. I also needed to block out my emotions. He’d seen too much of them already.
Hoping my mask was back in place, I met his stare again. “I didn’t run. I left. We had a good time, and it was over.”
Preston crossed his arms. “Liar.”
I flinched. Even after two years, he still saw too much.
“You and I both know it was more than just a good time, Landon.”
Hearing that name from his lips hardened my emotions. He met Sara that night. I needed to put a stop to this. Pushing back my shoulders, I straightened to my full height. “We fucked. That was it. Nothing more, nothing less.”
“Does Brody know?”
I reared back. “God, no. I didn’t even know he was your brother until that day outside the warehouse. He’d told me he had a recovering addict brother, but no fucking way could I have guessed it was you.”
“I’ve never forgotten you,” he said softly.
Pain shot through me. I’d never forgotten him, either, no matter how hard I tried. But he was no good for me. He made me feel things I didn’t deserve to feel.
It was time to end this conversation. I glared hard at him, desperate to show how much I didn’t care. “It was two years ago. You should get over it. I know I have.”

What was she going to do?
Molly caught her knuckle as she twisted the wrench on a nut that just wouldn’t give. She gritted her teeth as the skin scraped away. She sucked on the skin, the iron tang of blood settling on her tongue.
Questions bounced through her mind as a cold wind blew straight down the collar of her jacket.
Once she got the nut loosened, the dead alternator would lift out. Another hour, and she’d have the new one installed in its place.
And then what?
She’d promised Cord she’d get off his property. He’d been kind, letting her stay the past two nights. She’d repaid him by cooking some of Mama’s favorite meals, though she’d left him to eat in peace, staying in her room and strumming her guitar.
She hadn’t slept other than in snatches. She needed to get the fear under control. She couldn’t keep going like this.
She’d seen a random stranger walking down the street and panicked. A full blown attack, with the shakes and trouble breathing. In front of Cord, who obviously pitied her.
Pitied her, but wasn’t going to invite her to stay.
I’ll never let you go.
I’ll kill anybody you get close to.
Toby’s cutting voice had been bouncing through her brain ever since.
You’re mine.
She wasn’t his. Never had been.
But no matter how many times she repeated it to herself, his voice followed her.
She’d found a measure of safety on Cord’s land. It was quiet, peaceful. Maybe she could find someplace like it.
She tried to tell herself she would be fine.
But she didn’t believe it.
Footsteps crunched in the dried grasses, and she startled so badly that she dropped her wrench into the engine with a clang.
She might’ve uttered a cuss word under her breath as she retrieved it.
She shot a glance at Cord, approaching from the house, but he pretended he hadn’t seen her jump like a lunatic.
“Need some help?” He shoved his hands into the pockets of his jeans. His flannel shirt was unbuttoned above a T-shirt that clung to his abs.
“No thanks.” She’d fight with this bolt a little more, and then she’d win. She’d do the next step and the next until the engine was rebuilt.
Too bad she didn’t have a manual for how to rebuild her life.
He shifted his feet. Opened his mouth. Shut it again. Then blurted, “Can you come inside for a minute? I wanna talk.”
“What’s there to talk about? I told you I’m getting ready to leave. You’ll have your solitude back.”
He mumbled something under his breath. When she shot him a look, he awarded her a tight smile. It was some improvement over his fierce frowns. What would it take to drag a real smile from him? “Please, will you come inside?”
The nut finally loosened, the tension giving away under the strain in her arm. “Fine,” she said.
It was the work of a few seconds to remove the nut and bolt, and then she lifted out the alternator and set it on the ground beside the truck. An empty spot was left behind in the truck’s engine.
That’s how she felt right now. There was a huge piece missing inside of her. She didn’t know how to get it back.
She wiped her grease-stained hands on a rag as she followed Cord to the house. In the kitchen, he motioned her to sit in one of the kitchen chairs. She crossed her arms and leaned against the counter instead.
He leveled a look on her. “You okay?”
She dropped her gaze to the floor. “I’m fine.”
She wasn’t fine. But he’d already seen her at her worst, and she didn’t want to face his pity again.
“Molly.”
She heard the skepticism in the single word. She turned away and started running water at the sink. She scrubbed her hands with the rough green bar of soap left there. And rinsed.
And then he was close behind her, reaching around her to turn off the water. Her body was betraying her again. It was awareness of him at her shoulder—not fear—that made her heart pound.
That and the sickening memory of Toby.
“I want to know what’s going on,” he said. The words emerged heavy, as if they’d cost him.
She squeezed her eyes closed.
He touched her, cupping one hand beneath her elbow.
And when she looked up at him again, something was burning behind his eyes. “I have to know. Did someone hurt you?”
She clutched the edge of the sink. “He tried.”

“Jesus fucking Christ, Belinda!”
“What?”
“Are you blind? Or deaf? Or dumb? Or what?”
I just stare at him.
Vann takes a step forward, forcing me to take a step back too. And my step is actually a step up. He points his finger at me. I swat it away.
“I’m gonna say this once, OK? Just once.”
“Say whatever the fuck you want. I don’t care what you do.”
He climbs one step. And so do I. “I like you,” he says, climbing another step. So I climb another step. “I like your filthy mouth, Belinda Baker. I like your stupid cowboy boots. I like your pink hair.” He keeps climbing the steps, so I have to keep climbing the steps. “I like the way you road-trip.”
“What?” I’m so confused.
He’s still climbing the steps and now my back is against my front door. “I like the way you wear that glitter shit on your eyelids in the summer. And the way you wear fingerless gloves in the winter even though you complain, every single day, that your fucking hands are cold. I like the way your hair smells when you show up for work and it’s still wet. I like the way you spin on your stupid stool in front of the shop cash register and glare at the giggly sorority girls like you can’t wait for them to wake up sober tomorrow and realize they just paid a hundred bucks for a My Little Mermaid tramp stamp. I like the way you bite your lip when you’re tattooing and the way you always have a smear of ink on the side of your face by the time you’re done.”
I reach up to touch my face.
“Yes, you have ink there, right now. And I love that. Because you don’t even care enough to check the mirror after you’re done with a client to notice that you always have ink smeared on your fucking face after you tattoo someone. I like the way you kick at stones when you walk down the street like you’re some troubled teen with pregnancy issues.”
“What?” I laugh.
“I like the way you bitch, and moan, and complain that no one takes you seriously. In fact, I love that no one takes you seriously, because then they’d figure out just how awesome you are, and I’m afraid you’ll actually find someone else before I can convince you that I am good for you. I want to date you, Belinda Baker. And you know what really pissed me off tonight?”
He pauses.
I become uneasy. “Am I supposed to guess?”
“I’m not mad that you fucked Tony in the alley. OK? That’s not it. I’m angry that you gave him the chance that I deserve.”
My stomach… falls. I don’t know of any other way to describe the feeling I get when I internalize those last few words of his. Except… falling. Like the world has just been yanked out from under me. Like I’m adrift in a sea of mistakes.
Because he’s absolutely right.
“Vann—”
“No,” he says, still seething. “No.” He holds up one finger. “I’m not done. You don’t get to talk yet. I’ve been holding this in all fucking night while you laughed and joked with my goddamned brother and his stupid yoked-out army friend. Who, by the way, was leering at you the entire time.”
“He was not!”
“He so was!”
“He was lying face down, Vann!”
