Review:

Wildly in love with this last book of the series! Of course Rebecca would save the best for last, it is AMAZING!!!

Johnny Maverick will bring the smile to your face and it won’t come off. He’s that guy you want to be friends with. You just feel good around him. He is eternally sunshine, happy-go-lucky, nice, flirtatious, doesn’t take life too seriously, but obviously works hard because…hello he’s been drafted to the NHL. Yes, even when he messes up, I still love him, because his apologies are over the top amazing and he knows he screwed up. Can Johnny be real? I need Johnny in my life.

Dakota is also the bombdiggity! She is the girlfriend you want to party with, have by your side when you need a friend to hold your hand, someone to have dogsit, she is reliable, trustworthy, fun and loves with her whole heart too. These two together of course were going to be life changing, because they are both great people, but where Kota is focused, Mav is a bit more chaotic. It should even each other other, but that chaos freaks Dakota out. She doesn’t want to give Johnny her heart only to have him toss it away. Not that he would do it carelessly, but she just didn’t want to be a one night conquest with him. To her their friendship was more important.

Johnny is so playful in nature, he doesn’t EVER let down his emotional shield so when things become real, he doesn’t know how to let anything not be funny or a joke. He’s never had a stable relationship in his life, his parents were never around to show him what one looked like. He may lose Dakota before he ever has her.

This book truly has everything. Excellent tropes that all blend seamlessly together. Emotional moments (pink couch) that brought tears to my eyes, laughs, smexy times, more laughs, hot guys, did I mention laughs? So much love and friendship, Wild Love was the perfect way to end an era at Valley U.

Synopsis:

Johnny Maverick is a lot of things.
Great hockey player
Loyal friend
Rule breaker
Always up for a good time
And now, he’s my new roommate.

It’s only for a few weeks while I intern for the Wildcats – his new NHL team.
And there are some pros to living with my hot and ridiculous friend (or is that ridiculously hot?).
He’s fun and unexpectedly sweet, and he reminds me not to take myself too seriously.
I had no intention of breaking the one rule given to me on my first day on the job: no sleeping with the players.
And if I had, I never dreamed that player would be Johnny Maverick.

Review – Neanderthal by Avery Flynn

Neanderthal; Last Man Standing #2
(A standalone within a series)

Publication Date: October 25, 2021

Genre/Tropes: Romantic Comedy

Author: Avery Flynn

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

This second book in the Last Man Standing series is my absolute favorite! Avery Flynn is known for her adorable humor mixed with smexy good times, Neanderthal is all that mixed with Legos, smart grunts, and southern sass.

Griff Beckett is the quiet cousin, known more for grunting or one word responses than he is for his deep conversation skills. That doesn’t mean he isn’t extremely intelligent. He usually has several projects in the works or fires to put out at work and to relax he likes to assemble 3000 piece lego sets. That’s to relax! The man’s mind is constantly on the go, but when he first heard Kinsey’s voice, or more importantly when he heard her solve multiple issues all at the same time, Griff instantly fell in love.

When Kinsey Dalton meets Griff, she’s stuck by how attractive he is, but then he says the one thing she dislikes. He puts her in a box just like everyone else and dismisses her based on her looks. She may be pretty and blonde, but she has a brain in her head, however, it doesn’t take long to notice that Griff may be sitting in his own box. He’s smarter than he allows people to believe. There is something there and she likes the gruff man, there is only one other problem. Her fake fiancé, Todd. Now, she just needs to kill him off, maybe her Meemaw has some ideas on how to go about that.

These two are adorable, brainy, quirky, and just darn likeable. Griff may find himself at a loss for words, but Kinsey understands him better than anyone right out of the gate. That’s destined love right there. He also finds her brain the most attractive feature on her, which is super hot. These two have wicked chemistry, but have a lot of roadblocks to finagle making this romcom just too cute. It’s a big win for Avery Flynn in my book.

Synopsis:

So I may be in the Last Single Man Standing competition with my cousins, but five minutes around Kinsey was all it took to take myself out. Who cares about bragging rights when you’ve just found the woman you’re going to marry? Sure, she may work for my biggest competitor. Sure, she’s not dating right now. Sure, she’s my sister’s best friend and I’ve been sworn off her. But somehow she agrees to go on six fake dates to help me save face in this competition.

What does the guy who never uses his words have to say to convince the girl of his dreams that they’re perfect for each other?

Review – Broken Playboy by Laura Lee

Broken Playboy; Windsor Academy #4
(A standalone within a series)

Publication Date: October 22, 2021

Genre/Tropes: New Adult Romance

Author: Laura Lee

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

An angsty and emotional new adult romance that will require lots of tissues.

Who would have ever thought Bentley would need a redemption story? He’s the guy who brings the party, the guy with the jokes, the one you seek out if you want a good time, but it was a mask for his demons, hidden dark inside. Bentley’s story is emotional and full of sensitive subjects, but Laura Lee captured that sensitivity and wrote them down in a way where my heart broke for the boy instead of being thrown off by the subject matter.

I will admit what Bentley goes through are typical triggers for me, but the story continually drew me back in and I wasn’t so much pulled out of the fictional world by what Bentley was doing to himself as I was kept there and my heart ached for the path he was walking on.

Bentley and Sydney met two years prior to when this present story takes place. Laura weaves us back and forth through the past and present as both timelines are important to the people they are today. The night they met are both the best and worst nights of their lives and sets the trajectory of what transpires over the next two years.

Bentley isn’t the nicest guy to Sydney when she begins attending Windsor Academy, but he’s right back to that night two years prior and sitting among his demons, unfortunately Sydney has no real memory of what happened that night and doesn’t understand his hostility. At an impasse they need to either talk about what happened, or move forward, can Bentley choose door number three and just ignore, ignore, ignore. Destiny may not let that happen.

I love the Windsor Academy world and truly looked forward to Bentley’s story. It’s a heartbreaking story for sure, but also one full of redemption. And don’t get me wrong, Bentley uses humor to deflate situations so there is lots of humor scattered throughout, also mixed in with tons of their hot chemistry. This book has it all and exactly what this world needed to keep Windsor Academy on its toes.

Synopsis:

From USA Today bestselling author, Laura Lee, comes the sexy and heart-wrenching new standalone story set in the Windsor Academy world.

They call me a player.
A joker.
The guy always down for a good time.

But if they knew the secrets I’ve been keeping, they’d call me something else entirely.

For the last two years, I’ve been buried in shame, numbing the pain with various vices. Drowning in self-hatred and concealing it with a smile.

I had a system in place, a surety that no one would learn the truth. Then Sydney Carrington came waltzing back into my life.

She’s the new headmaster’s daughter.
The most beautiful girl I’ve ever met.
The one person on Earth who can expose what I’ve worked so tirelessly to hide:

That I’m the fucking villain in this story.

◆ BROKEN PLAYBOY is the fourth book in the Windsor Academy world. While it may be read as a standalone, as it focuses on a new couple, your reading experience may be enhanced if you read the entire series in order. This book may contain triggers for sensitive readers. Due to mature subject matter, it is recommended for readers 17+ only.

Review – Forcing You Away by Kennedy Fox

Forcing You Away; Lawton Ridge Duet, Archer and Everleigh #1
(#1 in a duet, #5 within a series)

Publication Date: October 19, 2021

Genre/Tropes: Duet/Roommate/Small Town/Contemporary Romance

Author: Kennedy Fox

Review Rating: 5 Gold Stars

Review/Synopsis:

Review:

Fire! Deep fried southern sassy fire!! Everleigh and Archer bring the sweetness and sassiness to Lawton Ridge and it is perfection!

I’ve been eagerly awaiting for Everleigh’s story and the first half of this duet did not disappoint! Everleigh is sassy, big hearted, and befriends everyone who steps in her path. Of course she was going to help her Archer, her brother’s friend when he needed a place to stay. Not only is that southern hospitality, but it is a very Everleigh thing to do. The one thing she was not going to do was stop flirting with the gorgeous hunk of a man, Archer. Flirting was in Everleigh’s genetic makeup and she didn’t know how to turn it off, even if it did infuriate her brother.

Archer spent the last five years of his life in prison and he needed a fresh start. Tyler knew what it was like having been there himself, so when Archer was released Tyler offered him a job and a place to stay. The open arms of Tyler’s family and friends, well, Archer had never really had that before and even though Everleigh was temptation herself, he also knew he didn’t want to mess up and throw away his second chance at a new life. However, as each day progressed, living with the vivacious woman got harder and harder, and remaining friends was down right near impossible.

I love the small town community, but this story in particular really brings home that sweetness of living in a small town aspect. It’s probably Everleigh’s view of living there more than anything. While she loves it, she does point out how hard dating can be or even shopping, but her spirit of loving everyone the joy she brings to every event is super infectious. It’s truly what Archer needed or what any of the guys needed after being released from prison. She is really fun to read.

Archer is also truly sweet. For a man who was locked away for five years, he didn’t let it ruin his soul. He’s respectful, courteous, and just a nice guy. He could have let what happened sour him, but instead he’s looking to be a better man. I really like that and want the two of them to work out, they both deserve it.

This is a duet and this book does have a small dose of intrigue that leaves us on a big cliffhanger. Their pasts have the potential to harm both of them, but which one will really do it, that is the mystery…I can hardly wait to find out because these two need their joy.

As each book has built within this series, all of the characters linked together and their stories all connected, but by far Archer and Everleigh’s connection, sizzling chemistry, and overall story this book can be read as a standalone. Plus, I want to mention they are also my favorite couple by a landslide.

Synopsis:

As I search for a fresh start, a friend convinces me to move to his small town. Considering I don’t have a place to live, his little sister offers me her spare room.

She’s every man’s dream—witty, down to earth, and gorgeous as hell—too bad she’s off-limits. Unspoken words and stolen glances have me eager to please her in all the forbidden ways. My broken past makes it hard to open up, however, she inspires me to face my demons and be the man she deserves.

I shouldn’t fantasize about my roommate, but it’s impossible when Everleigh’s sleeping next to me—her lips whispering my name.

FORCING YOU AWAY is book 1 in the Archer & Everleigh duet and must be read first.
